What happens when the very thing that once lit you up feels out of reach—yet still lives deep in your soul, waiting to be reclaimed? In this episode, we sit down with Carla Sciaky, a lifelong musician, who opens up about her incredible journey from early musical brilliance to facing a dark night of the soul that transformed everything. Carla shares how her relationship with music shifted from pressure and perfectionism to something sacred—purpose-driven, healing, and deeply connected to Spirit. We explore how silence became her ally, how creativity cycles through light and shadow, and how music—far beyond just entertainment—has the power to change lives, starting with her own. From the science behind music's effect on the brain and body to its emotional influence on infants and elders alike, Carla offers a unique blend of personal story and universal truth. How does music shape our development? And what role can it play in reconnecting with who we truly are? Whether you're an artist, healer, or simply someone navigating your own transformation, Carla's wisdom will stir something in your soul. Tune in to remember the power of music—not just as a sound, but as a force for connection, healing, and coming home to yourself.Ways to Connect with Carla & her Music:https://www.carlasciaky.com/http://www.doorwaytoyourlife.com/Music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n89CPWG4uELyric video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtQKKSbrEkgOrder an album on Carla's website: https://carlasciaky.com/index.html#storeP.S. A note from Carla: "It occurred to me to say that I really want other coaches, therapists, healers, etc., to feel free to use any of my songs in their work with clients, For example, my 12-step sponsor used to use my song “Awakening” (title song of my 1995 release) to do workshops and journaling exercises with recovering addicts. Putting on my musician/songwriter hat, I want to honor all musicians with the reminder that it is most respectful for anyone who puts our songs to use in this way to actually purchase either the individual cut or the album as a whole, and also to credit the songwriter, whoever it is. And at the same time, I would rather someone use it from YouTube or Spotify than not use it at all! I just want to mention that out of respect to all my fellow songwriters."About Carla Sciaky:Carla Sciaky has enjoyed over five decades in her career as a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, including a 2019 induction in the Colorado Music Hall of Fame with the group the Mother Folkers. Renowned for her clear articulate voice, strong fingerpicking style, and a warm intimacy with her audiences, she has toured the US and Europe, amassed a discography on Green Linnet and her own Propinquity labels, and was awarded awards and recognition for her songwriting in such arenas as the Kerrville New Song Competition, the Louisville (KY) songwriting competition, the Colorado Arts and Humanities Fellowship for Composition, and the Billboard Songwriting Competition. Her most recent solo album Heart of the Swan soared to the top of the folk radio charts upon its release in October 2024, and her music video “Standing by a River” has won multiple awards at film festivals worldwide in the categories of music video and songwriting. Carla has also performed on baroque violin as a core member of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado and Sémplice Baroque, with Wyoming Baroque, Colorado Chamber Players and more. She lives with her husband Dan in Lakewood, Colorado, working as a published author and public speaker and with clients as a life coach through her practice Doorway to Your Life.Chapters00:00 Carla Sciaky's Musical Journey05:24 The Call Back to Music12:24 The Dark Night of the Soul17:32 Transforming the Creative Process25:54 The Impact of Music on People39:12 Music's Universal Language and Emotional Influence44:57 The Role of Silence in Creativity49:38 The Evolution of Music and Technology
On this episode, we dig into a haunting from Woonsocket, Rhode Island—a city with a past steeped in the remnants of the American industrial age. A cramped family home becomes the epicenter of something deeply unsettling, divided between a playful spirit below and a sinister presence above. What begins with laughter in the basement slowly spirals into something far more disturbing, especially for the women who dare to stay the night. As we unravel the first-hand account of a man still living in that very house, we explore the psychological fractures caused by repeated encounters, and a lingering question that chills the core: What happened between the girl in the basement... and the man who won't stop staring from the doorway?

The believer who prays is a believer who is empowered. But not just any kind of prayer—this kind of transformation comes through prayer that is fervent, faith-filled, and persistent. It's the kind of prayer that refuses to give up, that presses in when answers seem delayed, and that believes God is working even when nothing seems to be changing. When we pray like this, we are not just speaking words into the air—we are communing with the Spirit of the Living God. And in that place of prayer, His power begins to work in us, changing our desires, renewing our minds, healing our hearts, and strengthening our inner man. If you want to walk in the fullness of what the Spirit has for you, then prayer is the pathway–The doorway to Transformation.

The four Gospels give the biography of Jesus. Four different writers with four different perspectives. Yet all four, focus on the last week of Jesus life. 35% of each book is devoted to the last week. Matthew, Luke, Mark (Peter) and John, all felt we could not understand Jesus unless we understood this last week of His life. Palm Sunday is a Day and a Doorway. It matters because of the paradoxes revealed. A week that begins in triumph ends in tragedy. The Jews were expecting Jesus to overthrow the Roman rulers, but instead, He overthrew death, hell, the grave, sin and darkness. The last week signaled a paradigm shift for humanity. From cheering crowds to the weeping Christ. From joy to judgement. From waving palm branches to waving whips. Matthew 21 tells of Jesus cleansing the Temple. The Jews were expecting a Regime Change-they got a Revolution! Mark 11, the donkey takes up half the story. Why does Jesus need this donkey? Why does He get it in such an unusual way? This begs the question: What does He need from you? What do you have that no one else has to advance the Kingdom? Luke 19 contrasts the reaction to Jesus: a story of Mixed Reviews. John 12 is a preview of Coming Attractions; by tying Jesus' entry to Lazarus' death and resurrectionS, previews what Jesus will go through. John 12;23-24 Palm Sunday is not, and cannot be, just a day of triumph (He's King!), but also the start of His suffering (the only crown this King will wear is thorns). It wasn't long before those singing “Hosanna,” were shouting, “Crucify Him.” Philippians 2:5-11 Christ's trajectory- kenosis-downward emptying, then upward exaltation. The same path is required for believers today! The last week of Jesus' life is a tale of two basins: The basin Jesus used to wash the disciple's feet. The basin Pilot used to wash his hands of responsibility for this state-sponsored murder. The last week of Jesus life was a turning point, from action to passion. Things are no longer done by Him, but TO Him. Jesus most powerful work is done in His passion. Could it just be possible that our greatest contribution in life may be not through our achievements as usually defined but through our suffering?” This week culminated with Jesus dying between two felons. Jesus became the One who does not count, so He could rescue all of us who do not count. Today, we celebrate the day, and we walk through the Doorway! +++++++ You can find our service times on our website: https://www.anctally.com/ You can find sermon highlights on Twitter here: https://x.com/allnationstally

When the winds of curiosity rustle the mind and stir the soul, they often bring with them storytellers—those rare beings who don't just recount events but breathe life into them. On today's episode, we welcome Joe Kowalski, a young filmmaker from Cleveland whose creative spirit dances between shadows and light, weaving stories through film, mystery, and innovation.Joe Kowalski is a filmmaker, game designer, and storyteller whose projects explore new ways to experience narrative across media. In this profound conversation, we journey through Joe's unique endeavor—a Stephen King “Dollar Baby” short film adaptation titled I Am the Doorway. What begins as a seemingly simple homage to the horror maestro evolves into a lesson in humility, time management, and artistic vision. Joe's choice of story, influenced by a girlfriend and the limitations of a shoestring budget, was no accident. It was a study in resourcefulness—making the most of what one has while honoring a source of immense creative power. “You have to know what you can realistically accomplish,” Joe said. And that, my friends, is wisdom beyond years.Joe didn't stop at simply retelling a tale. He reframed the horror classic into a new cinematic experience, wrapping Stephen King's suspense within a short film festival format. This wasn't about profit or prestige—it was about community, experimentation, and delivering value to the audience. His respect for the time and effort of collaborators is unwavering: “That's the biggest thing they can give you,” he mused. And in a world obsessed with the bottom line, such reverence is sacred. But his imagination doesn't remain tethered to the screen. Joe designed an interactive Instagram murder mystery game—an elegant rebellion against linear storytelling. Through a labyrinth of tags and grids, players navigate a digital whodunit, one clue at a time. Each piece of the game reveals not just a path to the culprit, but a deeper truth about human curiosity and our hunger for connection. It's a digital scavenger hunt of intention, ingenuity, and play. A new mythology told in swipes and likes.Lest one believe that his path has been frictionless, Joe admits to the chaos of low-budget production, the stress of festivals, and the heartbreak of seeing good work shelved for lack of fit. Still, he views each project as a sculptor views stone—not yet perfect, but perfecting. His year-long film PRISM is another feather in this vibrant cap—a color-coded exploration of identity and emotional entanglement told through color-isolated cinematography. Here is a man who does not merely shoot films; he paints them.Throughout the conversation, what resounds most is Joe's blend of youthful energy and ancient patience. He reveres the creative process, yet he's unafraid to let go when the time calls for it. Whether planning podcasts with friends or studying the rise of VR storytelling, Joe doesn't merely chase the next trend—he studies its rhythm, its heartbeat, and asks how it might elevate human experience. “You have to care about the story even when you don't feel like caring about it,” he says—and that is the quiet devotion of an artist in bloom.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.
The Bride in the Doorway
Hi Libration Nation! I am coming to you this National Library week with a delightful book Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, which offers a whimsical, yet dark exploration of fantasy realms where each child's story revolves around finding and losing mystical doors to other worlds. My guest this week is Britt Keup. Britt is a corporate girly by day, and an avid reader at night. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Britt created her Bookstagram account, what_britt_reads, to share her lifelong love of reading and be a part of a community that loves reading as much as she does. Although she isn't posting on the grid as often, she is still furiously reading behind the scenes and sharing fun instagram stories about all of the books she's reading and her love of her two pups, Ollie and Smokey. Aside from devouring a great book, Britt enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Bryan, her pups, fitness, live music, spending time with friends and she's currently writing her first novel! If you're looking for book recommendations, check her out on her Bookstagram account, what_britt_reads. Our drink this week is one of my favorite Cabernet Sauvignon's, a profile both Britt and I love: Double Black's Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Lastly, it is National Library Week, support your local library by visiting a branch, getting a library card if you don't already have one, and finding other ways to get involved, libraries need our support now more than ever. The Doorway Effect: this explains why you forget why you went into a room immediately after you enter. According to cognitive neuroscientist Christian Jarrett, the doorway effect phenomenon happens because our brains naturally compartmentalize activities and information based on rooms or specific places. Sermon Summary:In the final message of our "Unstuck" series, we examined Step 12: "Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we sought to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all of our affairs." This step poses a profound question for all of us: What message are we carrying? Whether intentionally or not, we're all carrying some message through our words, actions, and priorities. The concept of carrying a message originated with Jesus himself, who commissioned his followers to share the good news of God's kingdom. But why should we carry this message? The answer comes from Bill W., co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, who discovered that sharing his story with another alcoholic wasn't just about helping the other person—it was essential for his own survival. This reveals a powerful truth: there is no healing without helping. When we focus outward instead of inward, we find purpose beyond ourselves.Despite this, we often resist carrying the message. Like Jonah, we run from our calling, gripped by what psychologist Abraham Maslow called the "Jonah Complex"—the tendency to flee from our greatest potential. To overcome this, we offered two simple actions: talk to people about God's love and serve people with God's love. When it comes to talking about God, we often feel inadequate or afraid. But remember Jonah's sermon to Nineveh—just eight words that changed an entire city. God works in the space between our words and others' hearts. And our fears? Usually, they're not about persecution but awkwardness. In America, we won't be fed to lions for sharing our faith—we might just experience a moment of discomfort.By serving others with no strings attached, we demonstrate God's love in tangible ways that bypass people's defenses. Like Sam Shoemaker, who welcomed recovering alcoholics into his church, we're called to "stay near the door"—close enough to God to know Him, but close enough to others to help them find the door too. Our healing isn't complete until we're helping others find healing.

In this episode we discuss the transformative power of truth in the healing journey after infidelity. There is emphasis on the importance of facing hard truths, both about ourselves and our relationships, and how this process can lead to personal empowerment and freedom. Through various exercises and reflections, listeners are encouraged to embrace their truths and develop emotional maturity, which is essential for genuine healing and growth. Key Takeaways: Truth is the threshold between devastation and transformation. The hardest truth to tell is often the one we tell ourselves. Ignoring the truth only makes it louder. Real healing begins when we stop lying to ourselves. Truth is not a weapon; it is a doorway to freedom. Emotional maturity is essential for telling and hearing the truth. We must integrate the truth we receive into our lives. Living in truth requires daily decisions to honor what is real. Trusting ourselves is the foundation of personal empowerment. Freedom is only possible when we have the emotional maturity to hold it. They say family is everything—unless, of course, it's late at night and your ‘family member' is grinning at you from the bedroom doorway after a long day of exploring a spooky old mansion. Summer in Somerset was meant for sunshine, cows in the field, and definitely not for poltergeists auditioning for the role of creepy sibling. But that's what you get when you wander too far onto private property, ignoring every sign your own goosebumps tried to give you. From shattered windows and lingering apparitions to footsteps that don't quite belong to anyone breathing, this episode shines a flashlight on just how wrong a lazy afternoon can go when the paranormal decides to crash your family outing. By the time Japanese launched their air attack force on the US Naval base of Pearl Harbour, in Hawaii, raining down a hail of metal from the Pacific sky, the US had already been quietly preparing an Oceania invasion force, flooding troops into hastily prepared Army bases in Eastern Australia. With over a million American troops passing through the country, statistics might suggest that some would have been less desirable guests than others. The frightening reality that at least one would turn out to be a serial killer was a different matter entirely, a reality that certainly seemed to catch both the Americans and the Australians equally by surprise.
