Why has everyone gone insane? It's a question that makes Russell Moore and Ian Morgan Cron—bestselling author, psychotherapist, Enneagram teacher, and Episcopal priest—laugh, and also one that they approach with wisdom and insight. Moore and Cron talk about the confluence of pressures and stressors in the modern world, the relationship of control to certainty, and varying perspectives on anxiety and depression. They discuss practical actions to take when feeling overwhelmed and dive into the Twelve Steps, which Cron's new book illuminates as helpful not just for alcoholics but for everyone. Cron and Moore talk about what it means to be addicted, the human desire for relief from pain, and the power of community in the recovery process. Cron sheds light on amends conversations, which book of the Bible each Enneagram type should take to a desert island, and his profound love for God, Scripture, and humankind. THIS REFLECTION BY CHAD JOHNSON ON BOARD OF TRUSTEES SUNDAY EXPLORES THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF GRACE, DEFINED AS UNMERITED FAVOR, LOVE, AND FORGIVENESS. GRACE IS PRESENTED AS A FORCE THAT HEALS BROKENNESS AND REVEALS BEAUTY IN THE WORLD. CHAD EXAMINES GRACE THROUGH THREE LENSES: CHRISTIAN TRADITION, EXISTENTIAL PHILOSOPHY, AND GREEK MYTHOLOGY.
Preaching Point: The work of God's grace in a Christian's life will yield an ever-increasing amount of Christ-like love that is on display for all to see. Main Text: Galatians 5:16–26 (ESV) 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
As 2024 ends, may 2 Corinthians 13:13 be a great blessing prayed and spoken over you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

What if transformation isn't just about self-driven change, but a divine journey that starts from within? In this episode of Lead Time, we sit down with Rob Kelly, co-author of "Metanoia: How God Radically Transforms People, Churches, and Organizations from the Inside Out," to explore this profound concept. Find the book here: https://www.metanoia-book.com/Rob shares his unique theological path from Pentecostalism to a more sacramental and missional approach, drawing from the works of NT Wright and Alan Hirsch. Together, we unpack the true biblical meaning of metanoia and its potential to deeply transform individuals and the church, uniting us in Christ's eternal love. Our conversation also ventures into the transformative power of metanoia as experienced by biblical figures like Paul, Peter, and the woman at the well. These narratives illustrate how encounters with Christ lead to irreversible shifts in understanding and being. We emphasize that such transformation is ultimately God's work, fundamentally altering our perception and connection to the Creator. This reorientation leaves no room for pride, instead highlighting the role of humans as receivers of divine revelation.Lastly, we tackle the complexities of organizational change within the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and beyond, discussing the challenges posed by entrenched structures and vested interests. Rob and I explore the necessity of renewal through sound biblical theology and understanding human behavior, advocating for a grace-filled approach to institutional critique. We reimagine church structures, proposing a shift from hierarchical control to influence-driven systems inspired by Jesus' original design. Tune in to discover how embracing metanoia can foster genuine dialogue, transformation, and unity within our faith communities.Ask Ralph - Christian FinanceJoin financial expert Ralph Estep, Jr - Daily tips for balancing your faith and finances. Today on the Daily Nugget, Mike talks about the grace of God. He shares why we love grace and why grace is actually something most of us hate. He shares his own struggles with grace.
The G.O.A.T - Week 4 - How Can I Be A Person of Grace & Love in Our World Today? - Josh Amstutz
In a Zoom meeting with the Ramana Maharshi Foundation UK on 24th June 2023 Michael is asked, "It still feels like there is something missing because where does the 'desire' or 'love' to practice come from? I understand the love grows in relation to how much we practice but what can we do to increase our practice? Its so easy to not bother and spend all day being busy turning outwards. Plus our love to turn inwards is Grace then it feels like we cant do anything to speed up the process. It will happen when it happens. Even the desire to practice feels like it will only happen when its meant to happen. Where does the desire, the love to practice come from? Do we have to some how use our ego to try and consciously make an effort to practice and then as we do practice more then the love from Grace increases and our love to go inwards increases. There seems to have to be some real fight to get started first before our love to go inwards increases. Its a bit like when you know you need to exercise but have no interest to exercise but you have to force yourself to get started, then once you get started you find you quite like it and it gets easier. That effort and inner fight to get started with exercising isn't usually easy, you tend to put it of, find excuses, and it can be a real fight to get started. Is it like that for some of us when it comes to going inwards. You know its something you need to do, practice but your desire to go outwards is so strong its such a huge effort and you constantly put it of and are busy going outwards. Do we have to some how find the fight to make a start and is there any ways or suggestions we can make that easier for ourselves because when its such an effort, like for someone who wants to exercise but doesn't naturally have the desire to do so, then when they try it can be very difficult to sustain, they may try one day then not bother for a few days, or weeks, then try again. It can feel quite hopeless when it doesn't come easily, or naturally. So what can we do to over come our laziness, our strong desire to go outwards to get us started and be able to sustain some kind of practice. Any tips because it feels like a battle. Does the desire to even practice only come from Grace or does it have to actually come from ego? I understand once we get going and we are able to sustain some regular practice then our love will increase but to get going and get a regular practice isn't easy. Also what would you define as a good sustain practice? Once a day, several times a day, even if its only for a few minutes or even seconds? Reason I ask is i do wonder if we don't discuss these things we could find we are having high expectations of ourself and not being realistic which can lead us to think and feel we cant do it because we are struggling", so he answers this and several other related questions. ----more---- This episode can also be watched as a video here, and a more compressed audio copy in Opus format (which can be listened to in the VLC media player and some other apps) can be downloaded here.

Does grace mean I can keep doing bad things and still go to heaven? Does God's love mean I don't have to stop? Does repentance mean if I say “I'm sorry” God will let me continue sinning? If asked those questions most of us would quickly answer, “No! Of course not,” that is until God told us to stop doing something we really wanted to do. In that case our answer might be less definite. We might start looking for Bible verses that could be interpreted to mean “maybe” or listening for “prophetic words” that say, “In your case it's okay; you're the exception to the rule.” What used to be unquestionably right or wrong in our mind gradually becomes debatable. We might even start quoting conflicting opinions on the matter to show how uncertain a definite answer is on that subject. What's happening is that we've entered into the process of making something that was once forbidden into something that is now possible. Before we can convince others that God will allow us to do what we really want to do we must first convince ourselves. In order to do that we have to start questioning the standards of right and wrong that we have been taught, looking for loopholes. And this temptation to re-interpret God's moral standards is a danger which, sooner or later, will confront us all, because sooner or later each of us will really want to do something God forbids, which is why it is so important for us to understand these three terms: grace, love and repentance. As you might expect, each of these words has been given a wide variety of definitions, so that one person might say the word and mean one thing while another hears them say it and understands something entirely different. Since there's only one proper way of deciding the true meaning of each word, and that's listening to what the Bible says with an unbiased ear, let's ask the Bible to tell us what each word means and then ask ourselves how God wants those words to guide us when we really want to do something that He forbids.
Lesson 3 - Paul was willing to stand in the gap on behalf of Onesimus because he knew Jesus stood in the gap for us.
Lesson 2 - Love, extended as grace, moves us from a place of Repentance to a position of Restoration.
What do you hope happens as a result of your life? Hi I am Mike Henry Senior with Follower of One. Thanks for joining me again today on the Follower of One Podcast. I often talk about what we bring to the world or what we ship to the world. Our job as followers of Jesus Christ is to make him visible in our world. And today I landed on this passage that's at the end of 2nd Corinthians. 2nd Corinthians 13:14, "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." Paul, the apostle, is writing his second letter to the Corinthians, and this is the closing statement of that letter. These are Paul's last words. And, , it's a great blessing. You'll notice little variation in this passage among translations. I was reading from the English Standard Version. Grace is unmerited favor. Jesus saved us by his grace. God the Father orchestrated this entire story because he created us and he loves us and he gave us the holy spirit to establish the relationship with us that we broke. This sentence is a fitting closing for the note that Paul has written to the Corinthians. In fact today, I want to pray this for the people who listened to this podcast for you today. I pray that you will experience more of the grace of our Lord jesus. I hope that you will sense his willingness to do what is best for you no matter what it costs. The same is true of God the father. He's been loving us since he had the idea to create us. And he loves us even today with a love that will never end. And finally we have the holy spirit, who's our friend and our helper. The person who's Jesus has helper. He's the one who comes alongside us to help us make a difference. He becomes our best friend if we will let him. Instead of searching for friends among people, let's lean into the friendship with the Holy Spirit. We live in a broken world that wants to isolate us and separate us, but nothing can separate us from this love of God from this grace, love, and fellowship relationship that the Trinity has established with us. What is your strategy to take the grace and love and fellowship of God into the world today? We talk about this and Follower of One through our five daily activities. And those activities are pray, appreciate others, know what you believe, serve others, and speak for yourself. We get to take our faith into the world every day, no matter what your job is, no matter where you are. You can take the grace and the love and the fellowship, your relationship with the holy spirit and with God, you can take that relationship into the world and let it transform the relationships that you have with people. God can show you how to bring more of his grace, love, and fellowship into your world today and it will make him more visible. It all begins with a prayer. And often we talk about that prayer that punching in. And it's telling God, "here I am. God, would you put me to work today? Help me to remember your grace, your love and your fellowship, and distribute those things into the world around me. My job is to take your faith that you've given me and put it in the world. I want to take the life that you've given me and stick it in the world." Others will see you and it will make a difference in their lives. And they might even ask us, "why are we doing this?" Which is where we get an opportunity to just speak. And do you use I and me statements. Today, I want to challenge you to do this activity in your world. You can join us on the next marketplace mission trip, where we practice this. We do it in our online community and there's no additional cost or anything for the mission trip. You can check out a two week exercise to take your faith into the workplace by going to https://community.followerofone.org. Create a profile there, and we will invite you to join us on the next marketplace mission trip, the two week activity, where we practice putting our faith into the workplace. Thanks so much for being a marketplace minister and for being a follower of Jesus Christ. We are excited to partner with you as we make God visible in our world on a daily basis. Thanks very much.

Many of the stories in the Old Testament are outright violent. God's commands include killing women, children and livestock. How can a God like that be trusted or served? Sung and Nate look at the bronze age, redemption, and political unrest in a quest for answers.
