Shane Wood returns for a powerful conversation with Shan and Nic and offers insight into difficult questions. What do you do when the people you love begin to lose their faith? What do you do when people ask difficult questions about God? What do you do when you personally begin to doubt? These questions can be disorienting but we don't need to panic. Shane provides a clear pathway forward through transparency and conversation. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message
Nic and Matt discuss the decline in church attendance in America and the potential consequences for future generations. They identify the reasons behind this decline, including societal emphasis on work and individual accomplishment. They emphasize the importance of belonging and actively engaging with one another in the church community. Pastor Matt calls for prioritizing the Sunday gathering and active participation, especially for the next generation, to pass on the faith and demonstrate the love of Jesus. Finally, they offer a call to action, urging believers to prioritize the gathering and actively participate in "one-anothering" within the church. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message
Death will probably always create some degree of fear for us. Whether it is the fear of pain or how we will die, or our fear of losing those closest to us; it is normal for us to fear death. However, there are times when that fear is unhealthy and crippling. Amanda, Matt, and Nic discuss near-death experiences and the finality of people close to them dying. They share hope that Jesus offers not only life after death, but a freedom to live fully while we are alive. There is hope available to you right now. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message

When we talk about values in an organization, it is common for people to lose interest. Do we really care what values Target, Apple, or other well-known businesses strive for? Possibly not. However, when you are considering whether or not you want to align your time, money and energy with an organization, it becomes more important to understand what they are driven by. Over the next 4 episodes, Unscripted will cover 4 values that Rocky embraces. It is our hope that you will be inspired and you will decide to partner with us in all 4 values. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message

Our first REPLAY episode! We wanted to take a quick break from our current Enneagram Subtype Series to replay our most listened to podcast on our show. Many of you are new to our podcast, and we wanted to make sure you had a chance to listen to the episode people have found to be very helpful. In this episode, Nic talks with Shan and special guest Michael Behmer about the practical ways of forgiveness. Michael is a Marriage and Family Counselor and founder of Aspen Mental Health Group in Colorado. He specializes in working alongside those who have been hit relationally and professionally by trauma, grief and loss. Needless to say, he has seen many circumstances of intense hurting and pain, and helped many see a pathway towards healing. Forgiveness is a necessary and incredibly important practice that everyone benefits from, yet often struggles with. We have distorted views on what it means to forgive and what is required to forgive that often leads us away from what God wants for us. Life is hard. People will hurt us. Forgiveness needs to be a central part in everyones life. We hope that this conversation helps on that journey. email info@rocky.church for any questions/suggestions for the podcast If you want to pursue additional information regarding counseling, you can Contact Michael here. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message

Part 2 of our 9 part series on Enneagram Subtypes. This week we talk to Makenzie and Denyse, enneagram type 2's, as we learn more about subtypes and what they can tell us. One thing that is clear early in the conversation is that belonging and the desire to help others is central to the type 2. It is one thing to read a description of the various types on the enneagram, it is another thing entirely to hear the stories from real people. We hope you find the episode helpful and if you do...share it:). In Today's Episode, Mitch and Nic sit with Shelby and Joel to discuss enneagram type 1's. Specifically, they cover how the instincts of Self-Preservation, Social, and One to One affect the overall experience being and/or living with a Type 1. The conversation delves into the helpfulness and productivity that this personality style can bring as well as the shadow side of living under the tyranny of the "internal critic". Finally, Mitch offers practical advice for any type 1 to try out in order to take a step towards greater health. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message
Mitch and Nic provide an introduction to our 9-Part Series on Enneagram Subtypes. It can be confusing to wrap our minds around some of the vocabulary and the dynamics between types, instincts and ultimately, subtypes. However, if you're willing to do the work, diving into Enneagram instincts can help you understand yourself and others on new levels. This could be the launching point for you to experience your greatest growth. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message
Today is part 2 of a 2 part series on staff values at Rocky. Mitch and Amanda discuss how we developed our last 3 of 6 values that have helped shape our staff culture. We have often talked about the "why" of our church and staff values. However, we have never gone step by step through the practical "what" of each one. In this week's episode, Amanda, Shan and Nic discuss the reasons why we have the staff values we have. This is a 2 part series where we break down values 1,2, and 3. In next week's Episode, we will tackled 4, 5, and 6. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message
Whenever you hear about spiritual warfare, angels and demons; it can be easy to brush off the conversation as taboo or even just silly. Today Shan and Nic sit down with Steve Cuss, the author of the amazing book, Managing Leadership Anxiety: Yours and Theirs. Steve comes with an incredible amount of experience as a former Hospital chaplain where he saw first hand the affects of acute trauma and helped guide families through their darkest days. As you could imagine, Steve witnessed first hand how life experiences create and spread anxiety from person to person. However, he was surprised to become more aware of his own anxiety and stress that could affect the families he was caring for. This was the beginning of his study of anxiety and how the Gospel of Jesus can bring healing and respite in the middle of it all. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message
Shan shares of his family's battles with cancer and the reality of the unknown. How do you keep praying when prayer feels like a perpetual "groundhog day"; where each prayer reminds you of roads you've already travelled? How do you pray for and with your kids? How do you maintain faith while you face opposition? Amanda and Nic add insight from their own experiences as they discuss difficult topics. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message

In today's story of Grit we sit down with Jana Matthews, who is a long-time partner at Rocky. Jana has been a friend of Amanda's for years, and has recently dealt with a series of overwhelming diagnoses that would often be too much for many of us. Every time we set a goal, there is potential for success and failure. For many of us that are participating in the 52 Grit Challenge, we've probably experienced a little of both. In reality, we face much more life-changing decisions that are influenced by previous successes, failures and regrets. Today, we discuss the best ways to fail FORWARD into better decisions in the future. How do you pick yourself up? How do you know when it's time to leave a job, relationship, or situation? All these questions and more are discussed in this week's episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rocky-unscripted/message
Jack Nugent has had his ups and downs with owning and operating businesses. Sometimes, he had to learn life's big lessons the hard way. Jack tells stories of failing, of succeeding; of almost getting arrested for an illegal business he started in his teens, of avoiding fist fights in the pit when he raced Nascar, and of finding his soulmate, Karla. There's almost no end to the stories Jack can tell, yet they all have 1 thing in common: Grit. If you've met Jack, you've met someone who knows how to use "streetsmarts", reliance on God, and commitment to his family to exemplify grit. Today's conversations is inspirational and we hope you enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rocky-unscripted/message
The biggest threat to developing Grit is discouragement. Discouragement can come in many forms, but is often picked up when we receive criticism. Unfortunately, the old adage of "everyone's a critic" is often true. Matt, Shan, and Nic discuss personal times they have experienced criticism and how that affected previous decisions. It is important to learn how to positively handle criticism and perhaps more importantly, the best ways to offer criticism. It IS possible to grow in both of these areas and today's episode shares some practical thoughts on how we can do that. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rocky-unscripted/message
Shan, Amanda and Nic discuss key principles from Rocky's current teaching series called Grit. We believe we are capable of so much more than we realize because we haven't developed a greater sense of Grit in our lives. That is the ability to choose hard things for a greater goal. However, the fear churches often have is that we don't want to push ourselves into "self-help" strategies that move us further away from dependence on God. What is the balance? Where is the line? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rocky-unscripted/message
Let's begin Rocky Unscripted 2023 the right way! Shan, Matt, Amanda and Nic take time took look back at several highlights of 2022. Mark was actually a professor of Shan Moyers, our Lead pastor here at Rocky. On top of all of that, he is also a multi-book author including the Core 52 and Quest 52. Both are highly impactful books here at Rocky and I believe can be a huge benefit to you in your faith. Today we talk about much more than just reading. Mark reveals powerful insight about how God interacts with us as we read the Bible even to the point of scientific research showing that mental health increases the more time we spend reading God's Word. You're going to love this episode and thanks for listening! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rocky-unscripted/message
When you read the Bible, you see a tension between God's Grace, and our good deeds. Which one is most important? In the last several Sunday Messages at Rocky, we have learned that grace cannot be achieved; it can only be received. It is unearned and unmerited. However, we have also heard the Apostle James say that faith without works is dead. Can faith alone save us? Can faith be alive without works? In this Episode; Matt, Mitch, and Nic discuss several points of this conversations including the tensions that it brings. They also look at each Enneagram number and how we all struggle to accept grace in our own unique ways. If you'd like to hear Mitch and Nic discuss the Enneagram in greater detail, listen to Episode 225, or : Click Here --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rocky-unscripted/message

Today Nic and Mitch sit with Derek Voorhees to discuss reading the Bible. Derek is the president of Boise Bible College and holds degrees from Ozark Christian College as well as a Doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary and he humbly provides direction and how to overcome these challenges. It is a great conversation that we have found helpful and we're excited to share with you.
