So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them." Questions and Topics We Discuss: Are you willing to share some of the supernatural happenings you experienced with you family and your dad near the end of his life? Will you share a few of your God stories you've experienced through your daughter, Olive's medical journey? What are some recent things the Lord has been teaching you? Jackie Coleman completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia in 2005. She later earned an M.A. in Counseling from Richmont Graduate University and an M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she was named an Urban Scholar. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
As a licensed Marriage and Family Counselor, author and public speaker, Roya Dedeaux hears lots of 'mom' stories. The one she's most proud of is the story of her own mother, Pam. Pam and her siblings as well as her mother, Roya's grandmother, were all educators. Education and learning was always a topic of concern whenever they got together. So when Roya's mom said she wanted to 'unschool' Roya and her sisters, the girls were all very confused.Roya was just finishing up 4th grade and mom said "I'm not sending you back to school next year." Well you can imagine the confusion amongst the siblings, especially Roya who was going to be starting 5th grade.Mom was determined to make this work and pleaded, " just trust me for 3 months, if you don't like it, you can go back to school." I am not an expert by any means, but what I do know is that 'Unschooling' is all about encouraging your child or children to pursue their passions and follow their dreams, whatever they may be. For example, if your child loves animals or marine life, study animals and marine life-take them to zoos and aquariums, do projects-indulge them in their interests. And the same is true for any interest or field of study. "Supporting your children's interests, helps promote better mental health and fulfilled relationships," believes Ms. Dedeaux. This project of unschooling worked extremely well for my guest. Roya started taking college classes at the age of 13-always taking classes that she was interested in and she had full support from both her father and her mother. She says this was " a celebration of doing things differently, always keeping an open mind about possibilities."This process encourages and engages kids because these are topics of interest not mandatory subjects of study where tests are required. The bottom line is that it requires full attention from the parent and your children are happy. Make every adventure and trip a hands on learning experience-as though learning through osmosis.Roya had no interest in going back to school after a short time and says "my mom gave me to myself forever with her decision to unschool us." With many many years of higher education, Roya and her sisters are all very happy with the lessons their mom taught them. Roya refers to her mom as "a pioneer," and is so grateful to her mom for the tough decisions that she made when the girls were young."Connect With Courage-Practical Ways to Release Fear and Find Joy In The Places Your Kids Take You," is Ms. Dedeaux's most recent book.I hope you enjoy this episode of SHLTMM.Roya Dedeaux can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok.LINK FOR ROYA'S BOOK- "CONNECT WITH COURAGE: Practical ways to work through fear and find joy in the places your kids take you." https://www.royadedeaux.com/product-page/connect-with-courageCatch episodes of SHLTMM Podcast now on youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoUWxgQECqrMqI1ylVH9Dpw Jackie Tantillo and Should Have Listened To My Mother Podcast are honored to announce that they have been Nominated in three categories for the 2024 People's Choice Podcast Awards. The July episode of Mind Yo' Business is not one you want to miss! Your Podcast Master, Andrew Lambert, can barely contain his excitement for this conversation. A Bloomingtonian since 1982, this month's guest has an abundance of life experience and sound advice to share. Randy Bush is a Hoosier through and through. He grew up with two older siblings in Indianapolis during the 60s and 70s, in the days when walking to school every day was required because the school bus route didn't include his neighborhood. Randy is a die-hard Pacers fan, a self-proclaimed geek, and a total mama's boy. He shares that he was known by his friends then, and some friends still today, as “no fun Randy” for being a mama's boy in every situation. After graduating from Arsenal Technical High School, Bloomington captured Randy's attention when he came to Indiana University for college to study communications and captured his heart when he met his wife while working as a shoe salesman. After working for years as an auto salesman, he left to work as a mortgage loan originator to allow time to truly be there for his children. Living by mottos such as, “Do what you love and good things will come” and “The world doesn't stop when tragedy comes” (accompanied by a “just do it” mentality) have brought him to his career now. Having lost both parents very young, Randy has taken that tragedy and now works with families experiencing loss as a Family Counselor with Everstory. He shares stories about end-of-life celebrations, Hinkle's Hamburgers, and Andrew shares his end-of-life plans to see if they would fly. Don't miss out on this great conversation! A couple of weeks ago, I was hearing over and over in my conversations with friends how much stress and confusion and YOWZA come with the holidays. I love this season. I'm probably baking something as you read these words. I'm in. AND I also know this season comes with its fair share of extra. Extra chaos, extra scramble, extra hosting, extra outpouring, even extra grief. So I asked a question online and in private conversations: If you had the luxury of having your own relationship expert on call during the holidays, what would you want to ask? Oh, man, did the floodgates open. And my guest April Bordeau knew just what to do. April is a phenomenal therapist with over thirty years of experience. She's a founder and the managing director of Care To Change, a counseling center in the Indianapolis area, and she was kind enough to join me in a late-night recording session. We tackle all sorts of things, so buckle up and listen to this super helpful and practical conversation with April Bordeau. April is licensed as a clinical social worker. She is a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner and certified educator and a Prepare-Enrich & SYMBIS pre-marriage and marriage facilitator. She is trained in Experiential Therapy, Crisis Intervention Teams and NOVA crisis intervention, Theraplay, and the Suicide PAIR program and is certified in EMDR. April is a QPR Master Trainer, is an approved Focus on the Family Counselor, serving on their Michigan Hope Restored marriage intensive team. Our first REPLAY episode! We wanted to take a quick break from our current Enneagram Subtype Series to replay our most listened to podcast on our show. Many of you are new to our podcast, and we wanted to make sure you had a chance to listen to the episode people have found to be very helpful. In this episode, Nic talks with Shan and special guest Michael Behmer about the practical ways of forgiveness. Michael is a Marriage and Family Counselor and founder of Aspen Mental Health Group in Colorado. He specializes in working alongside those who have been hit relationally and professionally by trauma, grief and loss. Needless to say, he has seen many circumstances of intense hurting and pain, and helped many see a pathway towards healing. Forgiveness is a necessary and incredibly important practice that everyone benefits from, yet often struggles with. We have distorted views on what it means to forgive and what is required to forgive that often leads us away from what God wants for us. Life is hard. People will hurt us. Forgiveness needs to be a central part in everyones life. We hope that this conversation helps on that journey. email info@rocky.church for any questions/suggestions for the podcast If you want to pursue additional information regarding counseling, you can Contact Michael here. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocky-unscripted/message

What couple doesn't want a happy marriage? Surely every husband and wife get married hoping to have a healthy and ever-growing happy marriage, yet quickly find just how damaging sin, resentment, miscommunication, and the withholding forgiveness can be. With just SEVEN essential habits, guest Dr. Randy Schroeder gives a crash course in implementing and achieving a Christ-focused, God-oriented marriage that will almost certainly also lead to happiness and contentment. Find Simple Habits for Marital Happiness at cph.org. Bio: Dr. Randy Schroeder wrote the 2020 three-time national award-winning Christian marriage book, Simple Habits for Marital Happiness. The only marriage book that provides practical, specific words, actions, and essential knowledge in the seven major areas of a relationship to help every couple achieve a gratifying marriage. He has helped thousands of spouses achieve a consistently satisfying happy marriage with these simple, yet very effective habits. His 2021 two-time national award-winning book, Simple Habits for Effective Parenting is the only parenting book that provides detailed guidance in the seven key aspects of parenting. Happy, confident children driven to reach their full potential with self-motivation, good decision-making skills, a positive attitude, and determination are raised by parents who use these simple successful habits. Dr. Schroeder joined Jim Daly, President, and John Fuller, Vice President, on FOCUS ON THE FAMILY national broadcasts for six interviews: Simple Habits to Embrace in Your Marriage – January (BEST of 2022); Forming New Habits for Your Marriage I – September 2022; Forming New Habits for Your Marriage II – September 2022; Effective Habits to Embrace in Parenting – July (BEST of 2021); More Effective Habits to Embrace in Parenting I – November 2022; and More Effective Habits to Embrace in Parenting II – November 2022. These six FOCUS ON THE FAMILY interviews can be found on YouTube. Dr. Schroeder was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University Chicago and received a Master of Education in Administration from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He also earned a Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana and holds a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Chicago Theological Seminary. The first eight years of his professional career were spent as a Lutheran high school teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, and head varsity basketball and football coach. In 1982, after eight years as an educator, he felt called to serve the Lord as an LCMS pastor and left the teaching ministry to prepare for the pastoral ministry. After graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1986, Dr. Schroeder became a Professor of Pastoral Counseling, Vice President of Student Personnel Services, and Dean of Students. For nearly 25 years he taught pastoral counseling classes including Premarital Counseling, Marriage Counseling, Family Counseling, Crisis Counseling, Ministry to the Sick & Dying, and Pastor as Counselor. He also wrote a Family Counselor column for the Lutheran Witness magazine for 15 years. In 2010, after being an educator for 36 years, he strongly desired to serve God and others as a full-time Christian counselor to help individuals, marriages, and families with the practical wisdom that makes a profound positive difference. Dr. Schroeder is a Marriage and Family Counselor and has a successful practice at Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel, Indiana. For over four decades, Dr. Schroeder has spoken to and counseled thousands of individuals, spouses, and parents about the simple, yet effective habits that are essential for an enjoyable life, a happy marriage, and for effectively parenting a child. Dr. Schroeder believes a lack of valuable knowledge about specific practical words, actions, and skills, not a lack of desire, is what holds people back from accomplishing their individual, marriage, parenting, and relationship goals. Randy and his wife, Ginny, have been married since 1975 and have two married sons and seven grandchildren. Like many people in my generation, I was rock music-obsessed when I was growing up. My wall was covered in posters of Zeppelin, Rush, Van Halen, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, and others. And I constantly fantasized about becoming a rockstar. Obviously, that was not my path. Yet, I still wonder, what would it actually be like to become a rockstar? And, regarding this episode, what would it be like to become a rock star in a mega-band and lose that status? Harder still, what would it be like to watch your rockstar bandmates enjoy international fame to levels seen by very few bands create platinum records, play halftime at the Super Bowl, and win a bunch of Grammys? I had the pleasure of sitting down with Maroon 5 founding drummer, Ryan Dusick (https://www.ryandusick.com/), who shared what that was like. Ryan was there from the early days long before Maroon 5 was even a thing, back when they were known as Kara's Flowers. He grew up with Adam Levine and other band mates. Together, they created what I consider one of the greatest albums of all time, Songs About Jane. Ryan was part of the band's enormous success. and, as you will hear, anxiety, perfectionism, and other phenomena sidelined him, eventually taking him out of his coveted position as drummer. You will hear what it was like to deal with the loss, the FOMO, the social comparison, struggles with addiction, and a kind of heartache few can imagine. But it doesn't end there. In this interview, you'll hear how he found and continues to find meaning afterwards. Today, Ryan is an Associate Marriage and Family Counselor, and I am confident he is and will continue to become a superb therapist. He wrote a phenomenal memoir I loved so much that I listened to it twice called Harder to Breathe: A Memoir of Making Maroon 5, Losing It All, and Finding Recovery. So, listen in as Ryan and I get into life before, during, and after Maroon 5. Book link: https://tinyurl.com/y464mudu

Well-child appointments suggested vaccines to provide, and how many days to watch a fever before calling the doctor. But how do we manage and help our children with their mental health? I discuss this subject with my son, Michael Anderson, a Marriage and Family Counselor. Highlights From This Episode: How being a giver and doer led to being stuck and resentful Shifting her life because of a goldfinch and a song Leaping out to make it happen and really survive and thrive Helping parents become the confident leaders their kids crave them to be Taking 6 seconds to pause and be still in a busy world Links & Resources From This Episode: Learn more: NoProblemParenting.com Resources: The No Problem Parenting Podcast More About Jaci Finneman Meet Jaci Finneman. Jaci energetically volunteered for projects, helped others in their work or home life, and created ways to help regardless of whether people asked for her help or not. She overbooked her schedule to assist others for years and even accepted promotions at work that she did not want. Eventually, Jaci's willingness to help and her “Mrs. Over-Do-It” personality caught up with her. Her cup was empty, yet she was still “giving.” She started to feel taken advantage of and became resentful. As a natural helper, Jaci truly feels best when she is helping others and making a difference, but what didn't come naturally was taking care of herself. That is until God sent her a goldfinch and a song that would introduce Jaci to a whole new perspective on life. In 2013 she left her 20-year career as a Family Counselor to start Hello World, LLC and became a Parenting Coach. She created No-Problem Parenting, a program that helps parents become the confident leader our kids crave them to be. Awesome FREE Resources for YOU! Jaci Finneman is a natural giver, fixer, and doer. Doing everything for everyone else, thinking she was helping until she learned she wasn't. And in a moment of feeling slapped in the face, (twice), she opted to look at herself instead of being angry at the messengers. When she did that, she also slowed down enough to notice the signs, and that changed her life. Whether you are a Mr or Mrs Overdo it or not, tune in to this episode for inspiration from Jaci's story and how you too can slow down, follow the signs, and be guided to your purpose. Instead of starting out 2022 with a long to-do list of what you “think” you should do, I encourage you to do the opposite, slow down, and be guided to what unfolds for you instead! How's that working for you? Being a natural do-er and helper, always on the go, saying “yes” to every person, project, or request that comes your way CAN be fulfilling; UNTIL it's not. Eventually, some of us find ourselves accidentally taking on more work than we are able to complete and offering more help than we have to give. What starts out as good intention can turn into a burden and just another task we add to our “to-do” list. We start to think, “How did this happen? Why did I say yes”? Meet Jaci Finneman. Jaci energetically volunteered for projects, helped others in their work or home life, and created ways to help even when others didn't ask for or want the help. For years she overbooked her schedule to assist others, even accepting promotions at work that she didn't want. Eventually, Jaci's willingness to help and her “Mrs. Over-Do-It” personality caught up with her. Her cup was empty, yet she was still “giving”. She started to feel taken advantage of and became resentful. As a natural helper, Jaci truly feels best when she is helping others and making a difference especially for people who are misunderstood or not acknowledged. She now understands that in order to help others she must first fill her own cup. In 2013 she left her 20-year career as a Family Counselor to start Hello World and became a Parenting Coach. She created No-Problem Parenting a program that helps parents become the confident leader our kids crave them to be. Jaci's story aims to realistically INSPIRE natural givers, helpers, and fellow Mrs. Over-Do-It's to; 1) be STILL in a busy world – and take care of yourself first 2) NOTICE the subtle signs in your everyday life (that are trying to get your attention) 3) Take ACTION starting today, filling your own cup first and then, 4) PROCEED with INTENTION, Contentment, and Happiness Parent Coach and Strategist Founder of Hello World, LLC and No-Problem Parenting™ jaci@helloworldmn.com Phone: 320-200-1046 http://www.helloworldmn.com/ (www.helloworldmn.com) About the Host: Melissa is an Integrative Health Practitioner helping people get to the root cause of...

John and I know the Holidays can be hard for many, especially when you are experiencing the loss of loved ones. How do we celebrate this season without them in our lives? How do we honor them and still celebrate with others? John lost his father over 3 years ago and we have asked these same questions. Ken Curtis has been an integral part in our lives through the last 10 years. His wisdom, counseling and perspective have helped John and me work through some of the most difficult mountains in our marriage. We wanted to share him with all of you, especially if this is a difficult season of your life and hope this can help bring some perspective and some hope to your situation. Here is a little more about Ken Curtis: Born in 1947, In 1995 Ken retired from his first career as a paralegal in the United States Air Force at Mountain Home Air Force Base. One of the last criminal justice cases he worked on inspired him to choose counseling as a second career. A fellow who attended his church lost his temper with a two-year old son and hit him so hard it killed him. The mother of this fellow testified in court and showed pictures of his son's injuries when his father lost his temper and threw his so hard his head went through a wall. After graduating from Boise State University as a Social Worker, Ken started his counseling career at Idaho's maximum-security prison in 2000. He likes to say for 23 years he helped put men in prison and then for 10 years he helped them get out of prison. The heartbreaking family stories told by many inmates inspired Ken to earn a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling in 2011 from Northwest Nazarene University. He believes that helping families be more functional is the best way to prevent men from going to prison. He is now mostly retired doing some consulting speaking such as an occasional pod cast. He celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. He has 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Ken Curtis, Great Grandpa, Grandpa, Daddy, Husband, Consultant/Counselor, FriendAlmost Nearly but Not Quite Completely Retired & Then with His Sweetheart Wife Bought a Family Enterprise. Because Ken is retired and not taking any new clients, he recommends finding a professional counselor that you feel comfortable with to help you improve your mental health. You can email us at hanna@iheart2c.com for more recommendations and referrals. Ken, however does speaking engagements, podcast interviews and consulting and he can be reached at ken6743@hotmail.com
