Somewhere along the way, modern parenting turned into a battle against biology. In this powerful conversation, Britt Chambers—founder of Goodnight Moodchild—joins Ginny Yurich on The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast to dismantle the myth that babies need to be trained to fit adult schedules. She reveals how industrialized culture, profit-driven baby products, and pressure for independence have pulled parents away from nature's original design: deep, intuitive connection. Together, they explore what it really means to raise the baby with the mother—to rest when your baby rests, to nurture at night and thrive in the day, to trust the signals instead of suppress them. From night waking to outdoor rhythms to the quiet rebellion of slowing down, this episode invites parents to remember what our ancestors never forgot: children who stay close to nature stay close to themselves. Send us a textA single signed offer letter sat in the mail—and Art Delorenzo felt a tug that said, “this isn't it.” That gut check rerouted him from academia to a 50‑year run in financial services and leadership development. We invited Art back to explore how he makes choices, leads teams, and keeps his life centered, all through a lens that blends instinct, deliberate learning, and everyday kindness. We talk about the real mechanics of decision‑making: how cognition (research and analysis), affect (emotion and memory), and conation (instinct and drive) work together. Art introduces the Kolbe perspective on personal MO—why innovators need to reshape the standard kit and fact finders need more data before they move. We explore gut feelings and precognition as early signals worth respecting, plus a simple way to vet a new role: talk to the people who report to the leader you'd serve. Culture is local, and style matters more than the job description. From there, we dive into habits that compound. Art swears by short, consistent learning sessions to build cognitive strength, and he doubles retention by teaching what he just learned. We get honest about asking for help, humility as a performance tool, and why treating victory and defeat as impostors steadies a team. You'll also hear two practical rituals that change daily life fast: a three‑minute transition stop before walking in the door so you're truly home when you get home, and “joy reps”—eight brief acknowledgments that retrain the brain away from negativity bias. Add in kindness as a sleep aid—recalling a face you helped that day—and you've got a human system for better work and a better home life.If you've felt the hamster wheel spinning or you're weighing a leap, this conversation gives you a grounded way to decide, act, and stay well. Listen, share it with a friend who's at a crossroads, and if it hits home, subscribe and leave a review—what's one small practice you'll start today?Support the showhttps://bamboolab3.com/

What is an Instinctual Stack? Do you know yours? We all have three instincts. None of us are absent one. However, one does tend to be dominant.  But what are instincts and how do they influence how each type shows up in the world?  In today's episode, we revisit our conversation with Elan Benami, creator of the EnneaApp and author of  Enneagram Patterns & Poetics, to provide you with a great overview of Instincts, Subtypes, and the Instinctual Stack and how they can play out in your personal and professional life.    About Elan: Elan is an LPC with a MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and BA in Philosophy. In addition to his own private counseling practice, Elan is the Clinical Director of People House - a non-profit that provides affordable counseling in Colorado. Elan was introduced to the Enneagram in 2008 by his first therapist. He then did intense studying with Lori Ohlson, who was his supervisor. Claudio Naranjo was Lori's primary teacher, so there is a deep kinship with his work. Other major Enneagram teachers who have shaped Elan include Helen Palmer, Russ Hudson, Don Riso, and Sandra Maitri. Elan and Lori Ohlson have co-facilitated many Enneagram classes/workshops, most of them in the narrative tradition. Through Lori's Enneagram material (of over 25 years of teaching the Enneagram), Elan created the EnneaApp, initially for the purpose of having something to quickly reference between sessions. Through the years, he has adapted the content to be more reflective of his own experience while also preserving Lori's lineage. The app has over 1.5 million downloads.

A stalkerware economy is thriving on TikTok, and it's generating hundreds of thousands in sales. Journalist Rosie Thomas from 404 Media joins the show this week discuss her investigation into GPS trackers being sold as relationship surveillance tools directly through TikTok Shop. This isn't some dark web operation - it's happening on one of the world's most popular social platforms. The findings are disturbing. Content targets people with taglines like "Is she really going out with friends?" are generating hundreds of thousands in sales. Algorithms don't just show you this content - they amplify it the moment you engage. The digital economy we all live in has normalized surveillance to the point where stalking your partner is being marketed as a reasonable relationship tool. The technology isn't new, but the accessibility and algorithmic amplification absolutely is.This conversation touches on everything from the failure of tech companies to consider abuse cases in product design, to how parasocial relationships are replacing actual community bonds, to the legal gaps that leave victims with limited recourse. If you work in tech, this episode should make you uncomfortable. As a citizen, it should terrify you. It's a reminder that our biggest threats often come from the normalization of our culture's worst tendencies.Read more on 404Media: https://www.404media.co/tiktok-shop-sells-viral-gps-trackers-marketed-to-stalkers/

For the British artist Holly Stevenson clay, memory and psychoanalysis intertwine in hauntingly playful sculptures. This conversation traces Holly's extraordinary journey—from her Russian grandmother's concentration camp survival and the inspiration a Chilean refugee provided, to set design in Rome and motherhood, all the way to her groundbreaking residency at the Freud Museum. Discover how Holly's fiercely independent spirit, and fascination with what hides in plain sight have shaped her visceral, intimate works. KEY TAKEAWAYS Holly´s work is heavily influenced by psychoanalysis, both in subject matter and in approach. Holly finds beauty and meaning in everyday materials like clay, wood, paper, and even bed sheets. The creative path is rarely linear, but it can be deeply coherent if we learn to trust our instincts and follow the thread of our own obsessions. BEST MOMENTS “Holly makes the invisible visible - emotionally, materially and economically.” “I wanted to see something or hear something affirmative. But it's not about that, is it? It's about process. It's about accumulation. It's about one mark plus one mark, plus three marks plus 5000 marks, makes a drawing.” “Clay, like life, demands presence and patience. It cracks, resists, warps and still invites you back.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.holly-stevenson.co.uk https://www.instagram.com/holly__stevenson PODCAST HOST BIO With over 35 years in the art world, Ceri has worked closely with leading artists and arts professionals, managed public and private galleries and charities, and curated more than 250 exhibitions and events. What is sacred birthing? How does a mother follow her instincts while having past trauma and fears? How can we support birthing in today's world of over intervention and AI? What does mother and baby really need?  Special Guest Episode: Sunni- "At 10, I told my mother that I was going to deliver babies when I grew up. In 1979, I founded The Lancaster Waldorf School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. For the next 6 years, I taught kindergarten and found that these very young children, ages 3-6 were already wounded. This was a surprise to me, and soon I was shown that these wounds were formed in the womb in the period from conception, thru birth, and was also directly related to the child's birth trauma. Since 1987 I have been a Past Life Therapist of the Netherton method. This is a method of resolving beliefs, phobias, and patterns of stress in the present, by using past lives as source material. This modality has accomplished great equanimity in the emotional responses of my clients. Past life therapy again directed me to become a midwife since I ‘discovered' that birth contains the seeds of all patterns in adult life. In the process of resolving my very traumatic, near-death birth, I was unknowingly pushed me toward my life's passion. Since 1994, I have been a practicing Midwife, helping parents to understand the importance of pregnancy and birth and how it affects the entire life of their child. I have delivered many babies in a way that supports and allows their vast consciousness to be accessed as a newborn and child. When birth is gentle and non-traumatic to the physical and emotional body, only then is the highest consciousness maintained. I am the author of Sacred Birthing, Birthing A New Humanity. This is a work that addresses newborn trauma, but more importantly, how NOT to create trauma at birth. It includes a handbook for parents and midwives to accomplish this end. Please see:www.sacredbirthing.com. In 2005, I taught workshops in New Zealand and Australia to help resolve birth trauma in adults. 6 workshops in various cities were held, teaching about and helping them re-experience their birth, in order to understand the connection to the patterns within their lives today. I am a grandmother of 6, the children of my 2 deliciously different son and daughter." TALK TO ME, TEXT ITDive into a fascinating exploration of how everyday beverages might be secretly sabotaging your hair health. A comprehensive scientific review analyzing over 61,000 people reveals the shocking connection between sugary drinks, alcohol consumption, and increased risk of hair loss and premature graying. The biochemical mechanisms are surprising – from excess sebum production clogging follicles to systemic dehydration and oxidative stress disrupting melanin production.Beyond hair health, we share the remarkable story of John Sampson, whose "dad instincts" led him to perform a daring rescue at Hershey Park, climbing onto monorail tracks to save a wandering child. The incident raises troubling questions about theme park safety protocols and staffing adequacy. Meanwhile, Olympic diving legend Greg Louganis makes headlines with his decision to auction his gold medals and relocate to Panama at age 65, reflecting a profound journey of self-discovery and reinvention beyond athletic fame.Local perspectives on the announcement that Space Command will relocate to Huntsville, Alabama reveal the complex emotions surrounding community growth. While economic benefits are welcome, concerns about infrastructure strain and cultural preservation highlight the delicate balance of progress. Your instincts aren't just whispers. They're a compass pointing you toward the life you're meant to live. But in a world obsessed with speed, metrics, and outcomes, most of us forget how to listen.Arthur Brooks, bestselling author and Harvard Business School professor, teaches one of the most popular classes on happiness. But his insights come not just from research, but from a life of reinvention: from French horn player to scholar, from think-tank leader to teacher, and even pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago. In this conversation, we explore why so many of us feel unhappy today, the real equation for joy, and why following your gut is essential. Along the way, Arthur shares how to treat life like a pilgrimage, why AI may strip away the struggle that makes us wise, and why the process - not the outcome - is where happiness lives. If you've ever wondered whether you're “falling behind,” or if you're searching for the courage to trust your instincts, this episode will remind you that happiness isn't something you chase - it's something you practice, every step of the way. This is…A Bit of Optimism.Check out more of Arthur's work here: https://www.arthurbrooks.com/

One goal of this podcast is to shed light on aspects of our self-perception that have been in the shadows. Moms often feel shamed and judgmental about discussing their feelings, and they frequently believe they are alone in their experiences. Therapy can be very helpful for a parent who feels overwhelmed and overloaded, because talking about issues helps develop coping skills to navigate their imperfect lives as they allow the healing process to begin. The pressure to “know everything” in motherhood can weigh a new mother down, especially if their mother instincts aren't kicking in. There needs to be a greater understanding and compassion for mothers facing this challenge. Let's unpack this topic in today's episode. Show Highlights: Common socializations around motherhood and the mother instinct Pressures are NOT truths!  Events in our lives can greatly affect our mother instinct. Blanket generalizations about mother instincts are unfair. What we are leaving out is the mother's FULL experience as a human. We need a new approach. Let's take the pressure off new parents! What we can do to offer better support Resources: Call the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-TLC-MAMA or visit cdph.ca.gov Please find resources in English and Spanish at Postpartum Support International, or by phone/text at 1-800-944-4773.
