Saint Walter Church in Roselle has begun Coping with Jesus, a podcast made entirely by women for women. This podcast came to fruition after seeing so many of our female parishioners having difficulty coping with the pandemic and all the changes that have resulted from it. We started to look at what could help more than listen to other women, some friends and some unknowns, who are using Jesus as their model to help them cope. They are beginning by looking at the 12 examples within scripture where Jesus modeled to us how to cope through prayer and communication with the Father. Join us each week as Donna Burke, Discipleship Coordinator with Saint Walter Church, speaks with various women about their journey along with Christ.

A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in reply, ‘I will not,' but afterwards he changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,' but did not go. Which of the two did his father's will?” They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.

Today Chris Everhart and Annette Spiezzio sit and talk with Donna and Julie about one of the really hard parables. The Parable of the Tenants - Matthew 21: 33-45“Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard,* put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants* to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned.  Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.'But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.' They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?”They answered* him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.”Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes'? Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit. The one who falls on this stone will be dashed to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls."When the chief priests and the Pharisees* heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.

The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?'He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?' He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.'For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'”The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? There I shall store all my grain and other goodsand I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”'But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?'Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”
