Donna Burke explains that her mum gave birth to seven children of which there are two sets of twins. Donna is the first born twin to a boy and the second set of twins was also boy/girl. She basically in the middle of the seven children. To add to Donna's many talents, she is also the long time English announcer on the Shinkansen bullet train, from Tokyo to Osaka. She refers to herself as an entrepreneur, which she says she inherited from her dad. In addition to lending her voice to many genres, she also has a business called "Royal Flush" Japan Toilet Sound Maker. There's a Japanese cultural love affair with sound effects that mask any noises one may make while busy on the toilet! The video games that she's featured on, including her singing songs and character roles in video games are Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill 2 and 3.My guest's mum had a very rough childhood. Marg's mother, Donna's maternal grandmother, was an alcoholic. Her second husband was a pedophile. Marg and her older sister were in and out of orphanages, treated horribly while they were there. So the two sisters figured out that they could pretend that their life was better than it actually was. The two sisters felt so much shame about their broken family, parent's divorced, etc so they decided it was a good idea to dream up a different past. This was a coping mechanism which seemed to help. When Marg was 14-15 years old, her biological father eventually let Marg live with him once he saw the horrific conditions she had been living in. Donna loved to sing and really tried very hard to get every opportunity to perform when she was a teen. Unfortunately her mom, busy with all the kids, didn't really realize how passionate Donna was and how committed she was to fulfilling her dreams of being a performer. Come 1996, Donna realized it was time to get away from Australia and ventured on to live in Japan. She is still there today with a budding career -using her voice for singing monster hits from legendary video games and doing voice overs, including the job as the english announcer on one of Japan's bullet trains.Marg has been to Tokyo to visit her daughter and loves spending time in Tokyo. Marg also was thrown into the spotlight because of the notoriety of her daughter's voice as the announcer on the Shinkansen bullet train. The video interview went viral and that was Marg's first experience with real fame.Though Donna's mom had a dark childhood for many, many years, she still instilled in her children that it okay and important "to be kind to yourself and it's okay to love yourself "Donna Burke has a wonderful sense of humor, though at times her childhood may have been a bit chaotic, her sense of humor staid intact. I so enjoyed speaking with her about her mom Marg. One of Marg's favorite songs that Donna sings is "Sins of the Father.""Sins of the Father" is a song from the game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It was first featured in the E3 2013 trailer. The lyrics were written by Ludvig Forssell, performed by Donna Burke and composed by Akihiro Honda.Donna also sings:"Metal Gear V:The Phantom Painhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNvD-oNNQso#:~:text=Metal%20Gear%20V%3A%20The%20Phantom,the%20Father%20%2D%20Donna%20Burke%20%2D%20YouTube Donna Burke, the voice of Angela in "Silent Hill 2" wrote a song about her character. We kick off Season 6 and we are so happy to be back. Donna Burke, Julie Majovsky and Theresa Castellese break open Luke's gospel in chapter 9 where Luke tells the Transfiguration story. We decided that we would practice a form of Lectio Divina which is a form of prayer. You read scripture and put yourself in that scripture. Listen and pick out a word or phrase that speaks to you. We are taking it a step further by discussing what is striking us. Take a listen and see that where we start out isn't where we finish. So in a way, we transformed right here during our recording. For reference if you would like to do the same with us: Here is the scripture we began with:Luke 9:28-29Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white.

Since YEAR, Burke's FORME Studios in Atlanta has brought an inclusive, encouraging fitness environment with a variety of classes to hundreds of clients. Donna believes the fitness industry is broken. It has moved away from a focus on health and wellness into a superficially motivated industry telling women (and men) that nothing will ever be good enough. After a running injury in 2014 that left her spiraling into an unhealthy lifestyle and mental state, Donna made a commitment to fitness. After trying different workouts and studios and noting worrying behavior and mentalities throughout the exercise landscape, she decided to use her background in exercise science to create her own workout. Since starting her signature BarreFusion class, Donna has grown the FORME brand to include the Busy Babe Balance nutrition coaching program, Boss Babe Hours networking and career development events, and four new signature classes to create the most well-rounded fitness schedule possible for clients, with both mental and physical health as top priorities. Donna uses her brand and platform to change the fitness industry and bring body positivity and mental health to fitness. She is certified in group fitness, bootybarre, NASM certified personal trainer, NASM certified nutrition coach, and Oh! Baby pre/post-natal fitness. Donna has also used FORME to raise funds for Girls on the Run Atlanta, Lost N Found Youth Atlanta, and Education Cures.

On this EnrichHer edition episode of StartUp Funding hosted by Dr. Roshawnna Novellus we have Donna Burke who tells us how she became an entrepreneur and how she came up with the idea of creating a Barre Studio. Getting most of her entrepreneurial spirit from her parents, Donna decided to follow in their steps. Donna shares with us the story of how she got the idea for her very own Barre studio in Atlanta. Her story stems from when she started taking Barre, where she noticed her discomfort in boutique fitness settings, being overweight at the time and she began having confidence issues because of that. After identifying the problem, she decided to create a place where women could walk in no matter their fitness levels or looks or background and be able to make friends, learn about healthy living and nutrition. Donna created a Barre studio with emphasis on fun workouts and great music that everyone wants to come back to. When asked how she is able to keep her Barre studio open to people of all fitness levels, Donna says she started from the fundamentals, addressing issues we all try to work on and talking about them. Her Barre studio also has an open space where you are immediately in the midst of the workout group when you walk in, according to her, this helps create a laid back atmosphere which helps everyone open up a little bit more. Donna views success in her business as helping people in her Barre class achieve their desired weight goal or gain more confidence and generally be better than when they first came in. She also says she would like to make her success story impact more people. Donna also has an impact on Atlanta with various sporting events and charity programs with a focus on the younger generation. Being an entrepreneur comes with its obstacles and Donna shares with us an obstacle she has faced as an entrepreneur and how she was able to overcome it. She also shares information on what all viewers and listeners can do to help make sure that the business is successful.
