SUMMARY Fatherhood isn't about perfection—it's about presence, moral consistency, and showing up when it matters most. In this heart-stirring episode from the vault, Bob Merritt shares powerful stories about those precious moments that define a father's legacy. From confronting hard truths with his college-aged son to the tear-filled goodbye when his daughter left for college, Bob reveals how staying faithful in the small things prepares you for the big moments that matter most. TAKEAWAYS Consistency in three areas—staying married, staying moral, and pursuing God—creates a foundation that enables deeper father-child connections. Only strong fathers have the courage to ask their children where they need to improve; weak men avoid this vulnerability. When your child makes concerning choices, choose thoughtful engagement over passive silence—staying in the battle is more important than saying everything perfectly. The most meaningful moments in fatherhood are earned through years of faithful presence and moral consistency. Choose laughter and joy in your home—a house that hasn't heard genuine laughter in months reveals deeper issues. GUEST Bob Merritt served as Senior Pastor of Eagle Brook Church for over two decades before transitioning to leadership teaching, consulting, and coaching. He is a father of two, grandfather of six, and author of several books on leadership and faith. Bob is known for his practical, down-to-earth teaching style and his passionate commitment to helping people grow in their faith and leadership.   Links mentioned: Send a Voice Message to DadAwesome https://www.speakpipe.com/DadAwesome Apply to join the next DadAwesome Accelerator Cohort: Email awesome@dadawesome.org Subscribe to DadAwesome Messages: Text the word "Dad" to (651) 370-8618 Bob Merritt's website and resources https://www.bobmerritt.com/ Eagle Brook Church

From early days making mixtapes on cassette to manipulating multiple turntables live, he shares how his journey started with rock, shifted into dance music, and eventually settled into a world of layered soundscapes and emotional storytelling. From Mixes to SoundtracksDJ Zeus doesn't just play music—he creates moments. He explains that making a great mix isn't about throwing popular songs together; it's about reading the room, responding to energy, and creating a journey. Whether it's a club performance or a recorded set in Ableton Live, each mix is built like a story—with dynamics, tension, release, and emotion. This philosophy carries through to how he uses technology. Instead of letting it do the work for him, Zeus uses tools like pitch shifting, EQ manipulation, and harmonic mixing to craft something that couldn't exist without human touch. “If you're not pushing the technology,” he says, “you're not adding your own soul to it.”When Technology Meets FeelZeus shares how today's tools can isolate vocals, remix tracks on the fly, and even keep beats perfectly aligned—but warns that without intuition, timing, and feel, you're just making playlists. The difference between a DJ and a playlist? Emotion. Surprise. Humanity. He also reflects on two tracks that changed everything: Daft Punk's One More Time and Cher's Believe. One brought club music into mainstream pop; the other proved pop could crush in the clubs. Both used vocal manipulation in new ways and redefined the sound of their time. This episode isn't about nostalgia—it's about remembering why music matters. DJ Zeus reminds us that great DJing isn't just what you hear—it's what you feel.SponsorsAre you interested in sponsoring this show or placing an ad in the podcast?Sponsorship

On this episode of Raise the Line, we're going to learn about the organization behind one of the most important exams in healthcare: the NCLEX, which is the licensing exam for nurses in the US. The influence of the test, which is overseen by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), is hard to overstate because of its role in driving what nursing students and educators focus on. That was made evident when the heavily revamped Next Generation NCLEX, launched in 2023, placed much greater emphasis on clinical judgment than had been the case on past exams. “I think the education transformation prompted by the new exam is still going on. The launch was more of a catalyst than I expected,” says Dr. Philip Dickison, CEO of NCSBN, who was director of Health Professions Testing at Elsevier before joining the Council in 2010. Through administering licensing exams and serving as the collective voice of nursing regulators across the country, Dickison says NCSBN strives to achieve its ultimate goal, which is building public confidence in the competence of nurses.  “I see our job at the Council as making sure there is a moment of trust between a patient and their nurse.” Join host Liz Lucas, Senior Content Manager for Nursing at Osmosis from Elsevier, as she explores the important work that goes on behind the scenes in the healthcare industry to help ensure public health and safety, and uncovers what Dickison learned as a military medic that still influences his work today.Mentioned in this episode:National Council of State Boards of Nursing

Kyle Wester joins us to unpack the science of your kid's brain—from birth to adulthood. You'll discover how connection shapes their emotional development and why sincere apologies pave the way for deeper intimacy in your relationship.   Key Takeaways   Your anger says more about you than your kids.  The brain has three key developmental stages: brainstem, limbic system, and prefrontal cortex. To move out of the limbic system, you need connection.  Have high expectations while offering high support.  Emotion-focused parenting is an inside-out model that reflects what God does with us.   Kyle Wester   Kyle Wester is a licensed professional counselor and Parenting Coach who has been working with children for over 20 years. Kyle and his wife, Sarah, are founders of Parenting Legacy and host The Art of Raising Humans podcast. They have been married for 22 years and have three children.    Key Quotes   6:28 - "Success for us, when I look at my kids and I know that we are doing it well, that we are succeeding as parents, is when I see the fruit of the spirit easily pouring out of their daily life. What's neat is when you tie that in to the brain science, all of us as human beings, when we are at our best and we are really able to show up, be seen, bring more light to a dark place, it's when we're in the prefrontal cortex. And what's interesting about the prefrontal cortex is I can only get there when I feel safe and loved." 9:31 - "I have super high expectations on my kids. I really believe that every place they are is going to be better because they are there. And if for some reason that isn't happening and I'm noticing that, then me and my wife are wondering what is the supports my kid needed in that moment to be able to really shine the way God intended them to in that moment?" 26:02 - "This shows us how God has wired us and why the Christian disciplines are so effective, is because when we pray, when we meditate, when we worship, when we do these exercises that have been known throughout church history to be healthy and effective for us, we're answering these questions. We're connecting to somebody outside of us, who's whispering to us, you are safe. You are loved. And then once you get to the prefrontal cortex, the question is, what can I learn? You're basically saying, how can we do this together? How can we change this situation? I just picture God coming with an open hand and us coming with a closed hand, and He stays calm with us. He comforts us until our hand opens up. And then our hands can come together and we can really solve that problem together."   Links from Today's Conversation   Get 15% off the DadAwesome Store During the Mother's Day Sale Parenting Legacy Counseling & Coaching Email Kyle Wester at kyle@artofraisinghumans.com The Art of Raising Humans Podcast The Aro Podcast 257 | When you Change Your Relationship with the Phone, You Change Your Relationship with Everyone Around You, Including Yourself (Joey Odom) Anatomy of the Soul by Curt Thompson Sacred Parenting by Gary Thomas  Raising An Emotionally Intelligent Child by John Gottman  No-Drama Discipline by Daniel Siegel Parenting from the Inside Out by Daniel Siegel The Whole-Brain Child by Daniel Siegel Playful Parenting by Lawrence Cohen The Opposite of Worry by Lawrence Cohen   Connect with dadAWESOME   Make a Donation to dadAWESOME Join the dadAWESOME Prayer Team Receive weekly encouragement by texting "dad" to 651-370-8618

Embracing Repetition: The Key to Stability, Learning, and Meaningful Moments In the hustle of daily life, we often overlook the power of repetition. It's easy to dismiss the familiar actions we do over and over again as mundane or routine. However, these repetitive elements in our lives hold immense value beyond their apparent simplicity. Foundation in Repetition Consider this: the routines we establish form the foundation of our days. Whether it's Linda diligently checking off tasks from her list or someone finding solace in the seasonal rituals, repetition provides a sense of order and stability. It's the scaffolding on which we build our lives, allowing us to navigate the chaos more efficiently. Creating Moments and Memories Repetition isn't just about tasks or schedules; it's about creating moments. It's the recurring gatherings with loved ones, the traditions passed down through generations, and the small rituals that make holidays special. These repetitions engrave themselves into our memories, becoming the cornerstone of cherished experiences. Understanding and Learning In the realm of learning, repetition reigns supreme. From childhood to adulthood, we learn through repetition. The adage "practice makes perfect" isn't mere rhetoric; it encapsulates the essence of how repetition ingrains knowledge. It helps us recall information, understand complex concepts, and master new skills. Unlocking the Power of Recall Think about the joy of effortlessly reciting a familiar poem or instantly remembering a friend's birthday. Repetition is the key to such effortless recall. It reinforces neural pathways, making information retrieval smoother and more efficient. This isn't just applicable to mundane facts; it extends to significant life lessons and crucial knowledge. Discovering Mini Miracles Amidst the monotony of repetition, there are mini miracles waiting to be discovered. It's the sunset witnessed daily, the morning jog that energizes, or the bedtime story creating a beautiful bond with a child. These small yet significant moments of repetition hold immense joy and satisfaction. The Threefold Impact They say hearing something three times helps it stick. Similarly, repetition allows us to grasp and internalize information better. It's the reason why lessons are reiterated in education and why advertising often uses repetitive messaging—it works. Final Thoughts Ultimately, repetition isn't just about doing the same things over and over. It's about finding rhythm in our lives, harnessing its power to instill stability, foster learning, and create meaningful experiences. It's about embracing the beauty in the familiar and finding joy in the routine. So, the next time you find yourself in the loop of repetition, pause and reflect. There might be hidden treasures of stability, learning, and joy waiting to be discovered within these familiar patterns. 2nd Part of the Episode is Navigating Life's Pits: Finding Strength in Adversity Life is unpredictable, and sometimes it throws us into pits we never anticipated. These pits might come in various forms: financial struggles, family conflicts, sudden health issues, or situations that leave us feeling utterly out of control. In these moments, frustration and helplessness can overwhelm us. The Tale of the Donkey Linda shares a poignant story of a donkey in moments like these. Picture a donkey in a pit—when it falls into a hole, it initially struggles and panics, unable to fathom a way out. But rather than succumbing to despair, the donkey does something remarkable. It starts shaking off the dirt from its back and takes each shovel of dirt falling onto it as an opportunity. Finding Resilience in Challenges Similarly, when life throws us into a pit, it's crucial to embrace the resilience within us. It's about shaking off the negativity, dusting ourselves off, and viewing each challenge as a chance for growth. Instead of seeing obstacles as insurmountable, we can shift our perspective to perceive them as stepping stones to rise above the situation. Embracing Support and Seeking Solutions During these trying times, it's essential to reach out for support. Whether it's from friends, family, or professionals, seeking guidance and leaning on a support system can alleviate the weight of the situation. Additionally, focus on identifying solutions—breaking down the problem into manageable parts can make it less daunting and more conquerable. Cultivating Resilience for Future Challenges Life's pits aren't a one-time occurrence. They can appear repeatedly, each time testing our resilience. By navigating through one pit, we learn valuable lessons on resilience and problem-solving that prepare us for future challenges. Conclusion: Rising from the Pit Remember, being in a pit doesn't define us; it's how we rise from it that matters. The donkey didn't allow the pit to become its end but rather used it as an opportunity to climb out stronger. Likewise, in the face of life's pits, we have the resilience to rise, dust ourselves off, and emerge with newfound strength.   Thank you for joining us on this insightful journey! While it's encouraging that efforts to provide culturally competent care have gained a foothold in the wake of COVID, today's Raise the Line guest says it is time to expand the conversation to encompass the concepts of cultural safety - which involves awareness of historical power dynamics -- and cultural humility -- which requires an inward look. “Are you reflecting on your own values, beliefs, and background and what you're bringing to the table,” Dr. Raj Sundar explains to host Michael Carrese. Sundar tries to practice all of this himself with patients in his family medicine practice in Washington, but also works at a broader level as a community organizer with culturally diverse populations and reaches an even wider audience through his Health Care for Humans podcast aimed at educating clinicians on cultural safety in healthcare. He acknowledges up front how challenging this work can be, especially because well-intentioned efforts to connect culturally with patients can backfire unless they are well-informed, but it is more than worth the effort. “This work is messy and sometimes doesn't have a black or white answer, but it can provide moments of joy. When patients feel known, seen, and heard they feel like they can trust you.” Sundar is a thoughtful source of guidance in this enlightening look at what can be done at the individual and institutional level to facilitate cultural connection in healthcare. Mentioned in this episode: https://www.healthcareforhumans.org/

There is something I think we're all looking for...and that is a life that elevates us beyond the small self and into the most true and beautiful version of who we really are. A life where this connection to our deeper self is woven into every day. A life where we create and accumulate moments of illumination. This episode shares the method behind my own spiritual practice in messy real life. Moments of Illumination is a navigation system with three aspects of practice gleaned out of years of struggle to find space and time for myself. This way of practicing has shown me that most of our spiritual connection practice stands outside time and can be woven into life through sacred moments.  Join our lovely Moments of Illumination monthly membership to come practice creating moments of illumination for yourself. You'll get a drip-feed of guidance, inspiration, short meditations and breathing practices and so much more.  TAP HERE TO FIND OUT MORE --> https://mailchi.mp/sarahbhunt/moments-of-illumination

Want to start generating meaningful pipeline? Then quit meeting the expectations of your clients and start exceeding them. Alex Olley, the co-founder of Reachdesk, needed a way to cut through the noise of mindless demand generation, so he started sending custom swag to C-Suite executives. While others initially mocked his idea, that laughter turned into shock at the 30% increase in response rates. He chats with Daniel about creating moments that matter with clients and how to turn potential customers into stark, raving, mad fans of your product. Then, he and Daniel discuss the best ways to remove friction in the buying process and explain why A/B testing is a marketer's best friend. 0:00 Intro4:05 Moments That Matter9:45 Account-Based Marketing13:25 Removing Friction24:04 A Hill to Die On24:48 Getting on the Same Page27:40 Test It30:11 Words of Advice 33:12 Contact Us Follow Alex:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexolley/https://reachdesk.com Follow Daniel on Twitter https://www.twitter.com/Dmurr68LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-murray-marketing Sign up for The Marketing Millennials newsletter: www.workweek.com/brand/the-marketing-millennials Daniel is a Workweek friend, working to produce amazing podcasts. SummaryWhether he's bringing new life to great compositions, or he's helping an audience connect with the music in a meaningful way, orchestra conductor Lee Mills finds joy in creating moments of beauty.GuestLee MillsHighlights Growing up in a small town in Montana, Lee Mills never imagined a career in music until he went to college, where an advisor opened his eyes to the possibilities. While he liked playing instruments, Lee didn't love the hours of isolated practice time. When he tried conducting he discovered his true passion. Lee also studied physics in college, and he says there are a lot of similarities between the scientific world and the musical world. There is a great deal of competitive pressure in the conducting world, but Lee says when he is able to be part of a beautiful moment on stage, he realizes he's doing something that makes a difference.
