Weekly Teaching from the Pastors at Grace Point Church in Vestal NY
Grace Point Church - Vestal, NY
The value of forgiveness is tied to the seriousness of sin. If we don't think of our sin as serious, we won't value the forgiveness God offers. This has a profound effect on what we think, say, & do – especially in our interactions with other people, as well as with God, Himself. What happens when we place a high value on God's forgiveness? How would we get to this point in our lives? Listen to find out.
What does it mean to abide in God? How do we do that? God aways provides a way for us to follow Him as well as providing the means to abide in Him. Listen as Gary, one of the GPC Elders, explores how God provides for us to abide in Him.
Have you ever done something that you wish you could erase? Is there a way we could make our life whole again? Join Pastor Kyle as he looks into David's life and the “trainwreck” that he created, and how he appealed to God. There is much we can learn and apply to our lives today.
What makes a “good house” (Buena Casa)? Not the structure, but the environment; where personal growth is hopefully encouraged. Join Pastor Brendon as he delves into how we can make our home better, even if we've messed up in the past.
We often equate “fretting” with worrying; however, fretting is a bit more than that. It leads to anger and frustration. God, through David, tells us to not fret. Although this is “easier said than done”, a change in our perspective on the issue that leads to our fretting will help. Join Pastor Kyle as he delves into how we can deal with fretting in a godly way.
Psalm 27 is a deeply personal and powerful expression of trust in God in the midst of fear and uncertainty. Written by David, it combines bold confidence in God's protection with honest pleas for help and presence. It reflects the tension we all feel between faith and fear, and shows how anchoring our hearts in God's presence brings courage, stability, and peace. As we dwell, gaze, and inquire of God, we can't help but grow in confidence of God's sovereign plans taking shape.
Do our thoughts of God bring fear or joy? Why? If fear, can we do anything about it? Join Pastor Kyle as he explores David's reflection on God in Psalm 139 and what kind of response we could have as a result.
When life gets rough, it's common for us to despair. This is not unique to people today. Thousands of years ago, the writer of Psalm 42 dealt with this and encouraged the readers to intentionally shift their focus onto God. What can we learn from this and how can we apply this to our lives today?
Perhaps the most beloved Psalm is Psalm 23. It may even be the favorite passage of the entire Old Testament. It is a Psalm of comfort and security. Psalm 22 on the other hand, has a completely different feel to it. It is one of loneliness pain and despair. Yet, they are placed back to back because they are related. Before you can really take comfort in the shepherd of Psalm 23, you have to learn what the shepherd went through for your sins.
All of Christianity hinges on the fact of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Either it happened, or it didn't. There is NO middle ground. Today, Pastor Kyle discusses this issue and presents 4 key evidences for the Resurrection and why they are more than reasonable.
As Pastor Kyle continues his series on Psalms, we come to Palm Sunday, the day that Jesus returns to Jerusalem and is honored by the people – also referred to as the Triumphal Entry. Psalm 118 is tied to some of the events of that day. How? Listen to find out.
Last week, Pastor Kyle spoke on the concepts of delight, joy, praise, glory, & worship of God as it is emphasized in the Psalms. Today, Pastor Kyle focuses on the aspect of worship – how we can avoid “vain worship” and enter into authentic worship of Him. Hint: it's all about your heart attitude.
As Pastor Kyle continues with his exploration of the book of Psalms, he delves into the aspect of “delighting” in the Lord and how it relates to God's glory, our joy, praising God, and worshiping Him. Getting a better understanding of these concepts, and how they relate to our interaction with God, will help us to better understand the Psalms as well as how God wants us to relate to Him.
Pastor Kyle is starting a series on the book of Psalms which is essentially the prayer book and chorus book of the Bible. Psalm 1 is the “gateway” to the rest of the Psalms in that it lays out 2 paths, or roads, in life. What are they, and what are the ramifications of choosing one over the other? Listen to find out.
Many Christians struggle with sharing their faith in Christ with others. Although we are commanded by Christ to share, the “how” is not specified. Listen in as Pastor Kyle explores the “how” in discussing what may or may not work in today's culture.
Last week, Pastor Kyle discussed generosity as a part of Christian life. Generosity is not limited to our finances; but also our time. Sure we can volunteer, but being generous with our time includes building relationships with other believers. This week, Pastor Kyle delves into the aspect of Fellowship, what it is, and how it should play out in our interactions with other believers as well as with God.
When we view life through the lens of eternity, we find out that the things God has given us in this life are not meant to only be used on ourselves, but also to generously give to others. When we have opportunity, we should try to be generous to our congregation such as helping families with skills you have that they don't; inviting people over for a meal to encourage them; or even share the gospel with them. Most often when people think of generosity they think of giving money. But being generous is more than money. It's using your time, talents and treasure as a means to minister to others and worship God as you do it. Being generous with all we have is simply a response to understanding the gospel, and how generous our God has been to us.
Throughout Scripture, we see people praying to God. Why do people pray? Oftentimes it's because of a need; sometimes it's a “last resort”. However, God wants us to talk with Him – that's what prayer really is – even though we are not telling Him things He doesn't already know. So what do our prayers accomplish? Listen as Pastor Kyle explains.
For Christians, spiritual growth relies on spending time with God by reading His word, the Bible. Unfortunately, many are challenged in making the time to read it and sometimes end up reading short portions with the risk of missing the larger context of a passage of Scripture. Today, Pastor Kyle challenges us to read longer sections of Scripture with the aim of allowing God's word to influence our lives for the better. This week Pastor Kyle also added a resource that he has found valuable the last three years. If you have wanted to read through the Bible in a year, this plan could be what you are looking for. The goal of this plan is to make as many associations as possible between the different parts of Scripture while still reading individual books of the Bible from start to finish. Yes, it's already February, but that's okay. Just start at the date you get it and take it through the end of the year. He thinks you will be glad you did.
Any given church has certain characteristics of its members that can lead to health, dysfunction, or something between the two. Today, Pastor Kyle discusses 8 characteristics that we can use to examine ourselves to determine how healthy (or not) we are in a spiritual sense.
In contemporary culture, “church” is understood to be the building (facility) where church services are held. The New Testament understanding was different in that the “church” was the group of believers and not the building they met in. In addition, there was a “belonging” associated with this gathering. How does this all relate to our lives today? Listen as Pastor Kyle explains how this works.
Troubles in life will come. How we approach them has an effect on other parts of our life. However, trials are opportunities … for God to purify us in order to make us more complete. How can this be? Listen to find out.
Today we gather and hopefully find inspiration in how the Apostles boldly proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah amid increasing persecution. As we pass by Christmas, when we celebrate Christ's birth, we tend to get complacent about proclaiming His name. As we embark on our spiritual journey that lies ahead in 2025 let's pray for great boldness to proclaim the name of Jesus. After all, His name is the name above all names.
One of God's goals for Christians is to make them more like Jesus Christ. Part of this process is for us to see how Jesus related to sinners (all have sinned … Rom 3:23). Today Pastor Tim (retired) explores how Jesus related to those who were considered sinners at the time He walked the earth, and how we should apply Jesus' example to how we relate to those who live differently than we do.
Today, Pastor Kyle takes a close look at the various people (aka “characters”) in the Christmas story in light of the culture at that time. This aspect of the Christmas story shows us that God keeps His promises. Part 2 (Act II) continues next week. There is also a video (the audio track only), within Pastor Kyle's message, that portrays Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth. Only Elizabeth is talking in the audio, Zechariah is writing (refer to Luke chapter 1).
The word “hope” is commonly used to describe a “feeling of expectation, a desire or wish for a certain thing to happen”. The Bible has a different definition; “an expectation with certainty that God will do what He has said”. Both types of hope require an element of faith. However, Biblical hope rests on God whereas “common hope” rests on something else (feelings, other people, etc). Biblical hope endures through the trials of life whereas common hope if fleeting. How does God establish enduring hope in His people? Listen to find out.
The Thanksgiving Holiday is a time when, as a nation, attention is brought to the concept of giving thanks. But should this attitude only be expressed during the Thanksgiving holiday? Of course not! At least not for those who profess to be Christians. The “attitude of gratitude” should be with us 24/7/365 (all the time). Jesus gave His life so that we can live eternally with Him. He paid our debt that we could not pay. For this, we should be eternally thankful.
Are there times when we can be too busy? That question sounds like it has an obvious answer. Yet, Jesus and His disciples experienced times of profound business, even to the point that they didn't have time to eat. Yet, in the middle of this season of business, Jesus takes time to teach us about the importance of both spending time in rest and solitude as well as serving others in need. It seems like these seem a little contradictory; yet, this is the lesson Jesus has for us behind His miracle of feeding the 5,000.
One of our Elders, Ashish Mare, is encouraging us to not fall away from Jesus Christ in the midst of the culture we live in today. One might wonder, “Why is that important to us today?” How we respond to Jesus Christ has an effect on how we relate to Him as well as other people. It also will have an effect on our destiny in life and beyond.
Have you ever washed something only to have to wash it again and again? Today Pastor Brendon discusses how Jesus “power washed” the feet of His disciples at His Last Supper. He didn't use pressurized water and He only had to do it once. Instead, He used His act of servanthood to demonstrate how He wants His disciples to act toward others. How can we apply this today? Listen to find out.
Have you had a season of life that seemed to be filled with despair? The apostle Peter, who had several such times, encourages believers towards the Living Hope that resulted from God's mercy through Jesus' resurrection. This Living Hope does not rely on human achievement, but on God's sustainment. How does this work in our lives? Listen as Pastor Brendon explains.
Pastor Kyle continues with his series where Jesus meets with various people. Today, we look at Jesus' meeting with a demon possessed man. While not an everyday occurrence for most people, there are things we can learn from Jesus' interaction and apply to our lives, today.
Temptation is a part of being human that we all have to deal with. Today, Pastor Kyle explores how Jesus handled temptation and discusses what we can learn from His response to it.
Pastor Kyle continues his mini-series by looking at Jesus' encounter with a Samaritan woman. It is here, that He addresses her thirst with the Living Water He offers her. This Living Water is also available to us today.
Today, Pastor Kyle takes a close look at the discussion Jesus has with Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews at that time, and explores what Nicodemus understood about what Jesus said about a NEW life – not just a better life. How does that relate to how we are to live today? Listen to find out.
Cave Time Blues; the many times when David (future King of Israel at that time) was holed up in a cave trying to evade King Saul (present King of Israel at that time). David felt afflicted and was distressed at these times. At times, we can feel the “Cave Time Blues” due to circumstances that we're experiencing, or are anticipating. What is the remedy for this? Listen carefully to Elder Joe Underwood's message to find out.
Today, Pastor Kyle presents us with another “Snapshot” of God's character – Holiness. What is Holiness as it applies to God and why should we be concerned with it? In short, it is an attribute of God that keeps Him separate from sinful human beings. Listen to learn how this affects us today.
Last week, Pastor Kyle spoke on the need for forgiveness from God and that we should be offering forgiveness to those who have sinned against us as well. Today he touches on how we should put the action of forgiving others into actual practice – another step in making us more like Christ.
Forgiveness is a central tenet of the Christian faith. What does it REALLY mean to forgive someone? Listen in as Pastor Kyle explores the ramifications of forgiveness between us and others – and us and God. Hint: It's more than what our culture thinks.
Many Christians hesitate to share their faith with others, especially unbelieving friends. How can this be changed? Today's message gives practical approaches to this end.
How can a relationship break down into ill will (hatred)? Is there a resolution to this? If so, what is it? Listen to find the answers.
Every friendship experiences conflict to some degree. How do we handle it? Today Pastor Kyle introduces the topic of conflict resolution in our relationships with some tips on what we might do to prevent some types of conflicts from getting bigger.
Christian friendships are/should be different from friendships with unbelievers in that there is a Christian spiritual dimension to it. How is this different and why is it necessary? Listen to find out.
What does it take to build friendships? Is that even important? If so, why is that? These and other related questions are dealt with in today's message.
Brendon, one of our elders, shares from the prophet Haggai that the people of his time were too busy with other things and were not obeying what God had instructed through the prophets He had sent in times earlier. What does that have to do with us today? In some ways, we are not too much different. How is that, and what can we do about it? Listen in to find out how to resolve this situation.
The parable that Jesus taught in Luke 16 is His use of a “bad example” to teach a good lesson. It seems like Jesus is praising someone for being unrighteous. However, the principle that Jesus is teaching is summed up in the statement, “It is shrewd to use what you cannot keep to gain what you cannot lose.”
Each of us have a series of plans we use as we go through life. Whether it is a home improvement, buying a car, getting a college degree, every set of plans has a timeframe that will need to be addressed. When it comes to plans for your life, it's important that we look ahead far enough, even into eternity. Why is this necessary? Listen to find out.
What do believers in Jesus anticipate about Heaven? No more sin? No more death, sickness, or sorrow? Maybe being able to explore God's creation in a way we couldn't have done while on earth? The greatest thing about Heaven isn't a “thing”, but is God Himself. He's the One who created all things and creatures. How do we know this to be the case? Listen in to find out.
