For this special episode, Corey sits down with his parents who reminisce about their backpacking travels through Europe, North Africa and Colombia in the early 1970s. Learning about the differences between traveling then vs now is so interesting to hear. Whether it is sending letters to embassies hoping they reach the intended recipient or not knowing if your mates will be meeting you at the airport, the ease of technology is clear. Here is a great article about the famous "Hippie Trail." It gives a great idea of backpacking and travel in the 60s and 70s.https://smallworldspodcast.com/https://www.instagram.com/smallworlds… #smallworldspodhttps://www.facebook.com/smallworldspodcast/https://twitter.com/smallworldspodYouTubeSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/smallworlds)
In this special episode Lianne and Corey put on their investigative journalist hats and bring you 3 tales of travel during the Coronavirus pandemic. One honeymooning couple who dealt with some difficulties trying to get home from New Zealand. Our old friend Matt Palomar who found himself in Europe for most of March and just recently got home. The common thread between these 2? How the airports in the US do not seem to be doing much to screen people coming in from all over the world! 3rd, we speak with Lexi, who went to El Salvador at the beginning of March and what was supposed to be a 10 day trip has turned into an open ended journey that she won't soon forget. Having her homebase in NYC, it isn't surprising that she has decided to stay put in El Salvador for now as she awaits to see how things go over the next few weeks in the states. Her mindset is positive and we think you will agree that she is making the best with her time as she and a friend have found a way to live stream daily sunsets in the country and are collecting donations in order to help their community. This week Lianne and Corey have the opportunity to talk to the lovely Augustina Maruca! She began her travels in a way that we find to be a more common theme as she was living a busy life within her career in Argentina before getting burnt out and seeking what more life had to offer. After meeting Augustina at the beginning of her journey in Ecuador in 2014, Corey followed her global travels as she traversed the globe with her partner. They first followed a group of Chilean street performers who were in search of one of Mexico's most famous waves. They documented this part of their trip and we link to that film below. Following that, they sought out Australia and remote surf spots all over Southeast Asia and beyond! Now, residing in Australia and living a more simple life on a farm, she has found a new passion and business as well. Have a listen as we think Augustina shares a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience as a traveler. Her insight into the highs and lows, challenges and triumphs of life on the road is a podcaster's dream interview. We could not get enough of her story and are excited to see where her story goes next.Find her films hereFollow her travels on InstagramFollow the farm life on Instagramwww.smallworldspodcast.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/smallworlds... #smallworldspodFacebook: Smallworlds PodcastTwitter: Small Worlds PodcastSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/smallworlds)

To speak with someone like that who had endured so much and to see them doing so much good in the world is such a humbling experience. His work to help children in Nepal escape the horrors of the slave trade by starting schools with his foundation is a marvel and we can't wait to visit and learn more later this year. He is also doing his best to change the travel and tourism industries in Nepal by running a trekking company that is hiring local, paying a living wage and encouraging the growth of its volunteers and employees.
