We recorded this one a while ago. Chuck makes some strange comments. Continue to felch for Brandon. Cam Newton hates women. OJ did it. So did Ray Lewis. "Take a knee my ass" lyrics as read by Richard Hough.
Today I have my butthole of friends on the show, Landspeeder. They write songs about Star Wars! They are one of my favorite local bands, even though I hate them. They are recently going through some member changes but it doesnt stop them from fighting the good fight of the Empire. With a new split ep, Dave and Charlie were cool enough to drop a new song on this episode. Its hard not to fall in love with their catchy hooks and incredibly tight live show. Enjoy! This past week Ive had the most annoying computer problems. I would think that I've been recording and then find out I wasn't the whole time. However, I'm back with a fun episode that I did with my old band mate, Craig Miller. He is now the voice behind Zombie Schoolboy. He has been in the local scene for years and Ive been going to his shows since I was 14. We talk about his old bands beginnings and how this band got together. I also play 2 Zombie Schoolboy songs. Enjoy! Song Of The Week The Complaint Line - Static https://thecomplaintline.bandcamp.com/track/static-2 Dont forget to donate to Adrian from Even Thieves!
Today on Hard Cap we talk about banging the Pearlman family and also we lobby to get Brandon a Hard Cap tattoo. We're sick people ladies and gentlemen. Enjoy
On todays episode I chat with an old friend who I reconnected with. His name is Lawrence Wagner and he is a rapper who I remember would freestyle rap and wow me with being able to be so quick with words and actually make sense of them. He has a full length album, a Soundcloud page full of bitchin' tunes with no plans of stopping any time soon. Give him a follow and a like. The link to his page is below! This is a new format of the show. What happens in these episodes is I talk about bands that are no longer together that had a big impact on the local scene and shaped me as a musician. I'll tell a personal story or two of the featured band and play a handful of their songs. This months band is "15 Minutes Late" also known as "Logan Square". They had one of my favorite local drummers and the brooding lyrics that all the teenage kids longed for. Enjoy! Facebook.com/STSWC Enjoy!
Due to some computer issues I've recently had, today's episode is late. It still packs a punch though. I have one of the best drummers in the area on the show, Joe Corson! He plays drums for many different acts as of late and today he tells me why his set up is so god damn strange. We start off hot with a beer chug. Also, I will be putting out another episode this week on Thursday so we are right on track with new episodes. Dont forget to check out old episodes, BROTHER. Howdy! Welcome to the shows newest format. HARD CAP. It is a show where the is a hard cap of 20 minutes. It features my good friends, Brandon, Chuck and Walker. Today we talk about respect. I also give former guess and long time band mate, Peter Day, a bunch of shit for not listening to my current bands new record. You can go into the archives and listen to the episode that I did with Peter. Love ya Pete! Enjoy. #HARDCAP Another segment I welcomed into the hard cap family is, "A British Person Reading Terrible Lyrics". The song he will be reading is called "Ellen Degeneres" by Lil B. Its awful. Enjoy! Hello and welcome back to Shooting The Shit w/ Challz! I'm excited for this season of the show and hope you are too because I have stepped my game up a tad bit. I have 2 new editions of the show that you see starting next week. This week is the original format. Me talking too much at the beginning, a song of the week, more talking then an interview with more tunes played. My guest this week is Matt Holmes. He is the engineer of The Echo Mill in Chicago as well as drummer for one of my favorite locals, Valaska. Recently he has been filling in for Radar on drums, so come on out to a show and check it while it lasts! Hes a muti- talented dude who brings the noise to chicagoland area. Check out all of his links below. Back to guests being on the show! Paul Neil is a long time musician who brought back the scene to Tivoli Bowl in Downers Grove. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THE TIVOLI this is the guy to ask. The link to his Facebook is below. Paul also tours with his band that resides in Germany, Doping The Void. He got pretty angry when I said his Rap/Rock band sounds like Bloodhound Gang but it wasnt meant as a diss. He has a strong passion for music and does an incredible job at keeping the local scene alive. Happy Star Wars day! When I was sound checking the Wrestlemania episode, Pat, Rob and myself got into a heated conversation about Star Wars. It wasnt supposed to be an episode, but anytime there is a yelling match of two people agreeing on the same thing, you gotta put it out. It is ridiculous but laugh, you will. SOTW : Landspeeder - Stormloser Facebook.com/Landspeederband
This week I breakdown a local show. The idea seems so easy, but I didn't think of it. Stone Mason from The Kings Rising threw the idea my way. I take a gander at the performances of Eraserhead and The Kings Rising at Basecamp in Lisle. If you're looking for a negative review you've come to the wrong place. I give an honest/positive review of a fun show that I went to on a Friday night. Go check out these bands and support local music! SOTW: Ashes to Ashtrays - The Eskimo Brothers facebook.com/eskimobrothers
So I kind of figure no one will listen to this one. Wrestlemania 33 is this Sunday and I invited Pat and Rob to come over and discuss the outcomes of the matches. Also I marked where we started the beer chugging just in case you dont give a flying fuck about wrestling. Enjoy
Shooting The Shit turns one year old! There has been copious amount of High Life and Budweiser consumed. This episode there is no guest, so sorry if you dont like the sound of my voice. Dont tune out quite yet, because I play music from guests who were previously on the show and talk about podcasts that inspired me to start this show. Thanks for listening even if it was only for a collective 3 minutes! Here is the links to all of the bands that I played throughout the show. Support local music and lets keep this scene alive! After a month hiatus, we are back with Ryan and Connor Ashe of Common Allies! These two dudes play out every weekend so you have no excuse for not checking them out. They are twin brothers who are very dedicated to their craft. We had a fun conversation about how they started in movie production and made their way into music. We also drank a lot, as is tradition. There is no song of the week, but enjoy these clips of my band, Radar's, new jams. Enjoy!
Hello all. Usually I have someone who's currently playing with a band, but this week I have Jon Torres, a stand up comic! I met him a long time ago when he played for a band called Ferrison. Then later on I met him at a WWE Wrestlemania viewing party. Basically we get along swimmingly because we're both huge wrestling nerds. Jon performs all over the Chicagoland area whether it be open mic nights or stand up showcases. We talk about the struggles of a stand up comic, wrestling (duh), and his time in the local scene. Theres even a clip of him performing his shtick. Enjoy! SOTW: "Greener" by Southworth https://southworthband.bandcamp.com/track/greener
Hey all. My apologies for the week delay. My guest this week is Mikey Pineda, the bassist of "Lost Not Found." I met him when I was playing with The Obstacles at a Downers Grove South relay for life and was jealous of his drummers DW drum set. He has been in the local scene for an extremely long time and still supports it. He also is one of Chicagolands finest piercers and even gives you a discount on piercings if you listen to the whole episode! Enjoy! SOTW: Holy White Hounds - "Blind" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxTv7byjLs
This is the second and last part of my shit shooting with Dave and Sam of Get Well Cards. I'll be filling in on drums with them on February 24th at Tivoli Bowl in Downers Grove. This episode youll hear a Blind life song. For those that dont know, that is the first band that Dave and Sam started more than 10 years ago. You will also hear sam getting angry about a reunion show that never happened due to the Vans Warped Tour. Enjoy! SOTW - "Wheaties" by An Asian Film
This is the first time I've had to do a 2 part episode because Sam and Dave wouldn't shut the fuck up! These two had a very busy 2016 releasing 3 albums (1 solo album each and a Get Well Cards EP). They cant seem to separate from one another being on one anothers solo albums as well being in a band together. This is the truest form of love if Ive ever seen it. We talk about a whole lot, so get focused and cheggit out. SOTW - "Castle" by REMOD https://remod.bandcamp.com/track/castle-3
Hey! This is the last episode of the year and so I figured I would make it ridiculous. No Song of the week and no Blow it out your ass segment. Dont let small children listen to this episode unless you want to really mess up their life. It has snippets of the "Would You Rather" episode with Mike Benning and Scott Dolson. It also has a couple of snippets of an episode that I basically had to scrap because everybody was talking over each other. Enjoy and we'll hear ya next year.
One of my favorite local bands came to my place and we took several "Union Breaks." Steve and Anthony from The Damn Tracks are the guests this week and we had a great time. Anthony had been side stepping my show for all of season one so I had to give him as much shit as possible. The "BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS" segment returns as I rip on people who cheer at movie theaters and Kevin Janus (Season 1 Episode 3 guest.) Its all in fun. Dont get your panties wrapped in your ass. Thanks for listening SOTW: The Bigger Empty - "Thread" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imiufmSz5B8
Peter Day joins me on the show for the first time! Peter and I go back to day one of our music careers. From making songs with an old Casio keyboard and a tape recorder to living in a van playing shows around the country. We talk about old times, video games and what hes been up to since the band broke up..... 7 years ago. SOTW: California Killers - "The Ballad of Adolescence" https://californiakillers.bandcamp.com/track/the-ballad-of-adolescence
Hide your kids! We say the fuck word a lot on this episode. But hey, welcome to episode 1 of season 2, which overall is episode 26. This season is full of new great shit mixed with some old great shit. I get together with Mike Benning and Scott Dolson to do some "Would you rather" questions. We get dirty, serious, a little gay and angry. Welcome back and thanks for listening! SONG OF THE WEEK - David Rokos "Too Soon" listen/buy here: https://rogersparkrecords.bandcamp.com/track/too-soon
