Doomed Journey of Lost Souls: H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I sit down to discuss a Sci-Fi Classic, H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau. With three English language productions, Wells' story has proven problematic for numerous filmmakers. This week we take a look at Erle C. Kenton's Island of Lost Souls (1932), featuring Charles Laughton & Bela Lugosi and the Richard Stanley/John Frankenheimer disaster, The Island of Dr. Moreau. With a bizarre, strange, and surprisingly enjoyable performance by Marlon Brando, a lackluster and disengaged Val Kilmer, and a thoroughly disgusted (and possibly suicidal) David Thewlis, this mess of a movie is truly bizarre requiring it's own documentary Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau (2014). Take a listen. We continue to have fun doing this. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks!

Recently there was commentary in a forum that suggested the Pulmonary Embolism Rule-Out Criteria (PERC Rule) was essentially useless for detecting a pulmonary embolism (PE). It started with an anecdote, which is a logical fallacy (post hoc ergo propter hoc) and went wild from there. This led to the realization that many still do not understand how to use the Wells' Criteria for Pulmonary Embolism (referred to from here simply as the Wells' Criteria) and the PERC Rule.

" #PhoenixJones is an American real-life superhero. Initially wearing a ski mask to intervene in a public assault, Fodor later developed a full costume and adopted "Phoenix Jones" as a pseudonym. weki "The #WaroftheWorlds " is an episode of the American radio drama anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air directed and narrated by actor and future filmmaker Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds. The War of the Worlds" is an episode of the American radio drama anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air directed and narrated by actor and future filmmaker Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds (1898). It was performed and broadcast live as a Halloween episode at 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 1938, over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. The episode became famous for allegedly causing panic among its listening audience, though the scale of that panic is disputed, as the program had relatively few listeners.[2] The one-hour program began with the theme music for the Mercury Theatre on the Air and an announcement that the evening's show was an adaptation of The War of the Worlds. Orson Welles then read a prologue which was closely based on the opening of H. G. Wells' novel modified slightly to move the story's setting to 1939. For about the next twenty minutes, the broadcast was presented as a typical evening of radio programming being interrupted by a series of news bulletins. The first few news flashes occur during a presentation of "live" music and describe a series of odd explosions observed on Mars, followed by a seemingly unrelated report of an unusual object falling on a farm in Grover's Mill, New Jersey. The musical program returns briefly before being interrupted by a live report from Grover's Mill, where police officials and a crowd of curious onlookers have surrounded the strange cylindrical object that fell from the sky. The situation escalates when Martians emerge from the cylinder and attack using a heat-ray, which the panicked reporter at the scene describes until his audio feed abruptly goes dead. This is followed by a rapid series of increasingly alarming news updates detailing a devastating alien invasion taking place around the world and the futile efforts of the U.S. military to stop it. The first portion of the show climaxes with another live report from a Manhattan rooftop as giant Martian war machines release clouds of poisonous smoke across New York City. The reporter on the scene describes desperate citizens fleeing as the smoke approaches his location until he coughs and falls silent, after which the program took its first break. During the second half of the show, the style shifts to a more conventional radio drama format and follows a survivor (played by Welles) dealing with the aftermath of the invasion and the ongoing Martian occupation of Earth. As in the original novel, the story ends with the discovery that the Martians have been defeated by microbes rather than by humans. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/vegansteven/message

This week on YFT, Brandi is jetlagged AF after getting back from her DD adventures in South Africa, and Wells is truly living in a winter wonderland in a house full of (fake) Christmas trees. Brandi has just realized she is essentially living in a Netflix rom-com, or a female-porn depending on how you look at it, with her long-distance romance (but Reinhardt is suh-much hotter). The hosts discuss their favorite holiday movie, their love of Jack Black, and why holiday gifting is making it a tough time to be alive here in America. To the dismay of many YFTers, Wells reads a few of his favorite 5-star reviews in his movie trailer voice. Plus, listen to Wells' countdown of Haribo Sugar-Free Gummy Bear reviews starting with #4, and find out which woman’s name might actually be the worst (or best) one ever. Ira Pastor, ideaXme exponential health ambassador, interviews Dr. Ronald Mallett, Professor Emeritus, Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut. Ira Pastor Comments: Time travel is the concept of movement between certain points in time, analogous to movement between different points in space, by an object or a person, typically with the use of a hypothetical device known as a time machine. Time travel is a widely recognized concept in philosophy and fiction and the idea of a time machine was originally popularized by H. G. Wells' 1895 novel The Time Machine. Forward time travel, outside the usual sense of the perception of time, is an extensively observed phenomenon and well-understood within the framework of special relativity and general relativity and making one body advance a few milliseconds compared to another body has been demonstrated in experiments comparing atomic clocks on jets and satelites versus the earth. As for backward time travel, it is possible to find solutions in general relativity that allow for it, in a theoretical system known as a "closed timelike curve" (sometimes abbreviated CTC), which is where the world line of an object (the path that an object traces in 4-dimensional space-time) follows a curious path where it eventually returns to the exact same coordinates in space and time that it was at previously. In other words, a closed timelike curve is the mathematical result of physics equations that allows for time travel to the past. Dr. Ronald Mallett Our guest today who has been at the forefront of theoretical research in this area, and who has been developing some rather novel theories on the ways that light, specifically laser light, may be able to create CTCs, is Dr. Ronald Mallett, Professor Emeritus, Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut. With a BS, MS, and PhD in Physics from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Mallett has lectured over the past few decades in such diverse areas as general relativity and gravitation, black holes, relativistic astrophysics, quantum cosmology, gauge theories, and time travel. He has published numerous papers on black holes and cosmology in professional journals. Dr. Mallett's papers related to his time travel interests (also known as the "Space-time Twisting by Light(STL)" project), include "Weak Gravitational Field of the Electromagnetic Radiation in a Ring Laser", "Gravitational Faraday Effect Produced by a Ring Laser", and "The Gravitational Field of a Circulating Light Beam." His breakthrough research on theoretical time travelhas been featured extensively in the media around the world, including NPR’s This American Life, the History Channel, Science Channel, and Learning Channel. He is author of Time Traveler: A Scientist’s Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality. On this episode of ideaXme we will hear from Dr. Mallett: About his background, how he developed an interest in physics, Albert Einstein, time travel theory. We'll learn about CTCs, gravity, and light frame-dragging of time theories. What it is like in the area of physics to investigate such "science fiction" topics. His thoughts on various time travel paradoxes and retro-causality. Credits: Ira Pastor interview video, text, and audio. This week on YFT, Brandi is on tour with Kaitlyn Bristowe, which is a relief to many since Blake wasn’t an actual DJ, and Wells is in France staying in a potentially haunted castle and carrying around some just-in-case bread. He’s been following Sarah all over France with multiple cameras capturing all of Sarah’s best angles and then formatting the pics to make them Insta-perfection. Wells goes over the French Survival Kit with Brandi which consists of bread, wine, cheese, and cigarettes (it’s a wonder how French people are still suh-hot). Brandi and Wells discuss the benefits of TOTO toilets (please sponsor us), America’s lack of monuments compared to Europe, how Brandi was converted from Hallmark hater to Christmas movie enthusiast, and how incredible it is that a YFTer we'll call Wasted Grace is miraculously connected to the show. Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 57th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Cutting that LVAD Wire," I feature Alan Ball's HBO project "True Blood." In Cross Connections, there's no "Studio Six Feet Under" competition on "True Blood," given "Six Feet Under" series creator Alan Ball's direct connection. Rather, I traced connections from a couple significant episodes of "Boston Legal," Kurt Sutter productions "The Shield" and "Sons of Anarchy," "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," "Rescue Me" and "Monk," and I premiere a Golden Thread segment with Dean Norris, tracking his appearances in shows throughout my collection. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I found a pivotal episode of "Grey's Anatomy" along with comments on the series finale of "Dead Like Me," the 2006 Amnesty International fundraiser "The Secret Policeman's Ball," the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, the 2008 Emmy Awards, "The Office," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," the Spanish Inquisition pops up in "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and from "The Daily Show," in Jon Stewart's Wacky Lists of Things, I break down the "network of gay staffers" conservatives were attributing as somehow responsible for Rep. Mark Foley's allegedly untoward texts and emails to young male pages. In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I ran into copies of "Fracture" and "Michael Clayton" in my Classic Collection, and from my Current Collection, I chat about H.G. Wells' 1936 "Things to Come," which aired on community access. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, comments on "Bob's Burgers," "Superstore," "The Good Place," "Supernatural," "American Horror Story 1984," "Will & Grace," "Cake" and Twitter teases involving "Perfect Harmony" and "Doctor Who." Finally, in What I've Been Watching, some thoughts on the fourth season premiere of "Mr. Robot." Enjoy!

Wells is basically now the Bonus Bonus Jonas after spending time in New York with the Jo Bros, while also sweating profusely while meeting Jay-Z, and learning how to make marriage last from the one-and-only Dr. Phil. Wells and Brandi debate the grossness (yet perfection) of American cheese, what’s up with the big-toe heel fashion trend, the many actual reasons behind why horses have hairstyles, and the crazy story behind Wells' new love of donkeys and their balls. This week on Inside the Headset we speak with Matt Wells, Head Coach for Texas Tech University. We discuss taking over the Red Raider football program, transitioning his staff to a new school, and establishing his culture in a new environment. Coach Wells' career began at the Naval Academy, where he worked with quarterbacks, fullbacks, and receivers (1997-2001). From there he coached tight ends and was a recruiting coordinator at Tulsa (2002-2006), coached receivers and served as recruiting coordinator at New Mexico (2007-2008), and was the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Louisville (2009). In 2010, he returned to New Mexico to work with the receivers before joining the staff at Utah State in 2011. Wells' eight-year stint at Utah State saw him begin as a quarterback coach, but he was quickly promoted to offensive coordinator in 2012, and was named head coach prior to the 2013 season. Wells was named head coach of the Texas Tech program following the end of the 2018 regular season. Tonight, we’ll be reading from, "The Island of Dr. Moreau" an 1896, classic, early science-fiction novel, by author H. G. Wells. The novel is the earliest depiction of the science fiction motif "uplift" in which a more advanced species intervenes in the evolution of an animal species to bring the later to a higher level of intelligence. In this story, a shipwrecked man is rescued by a passing boat who is let on the island home of Dr. Moreau, a mad scientist who creates human-like hybrid beings from animals. This remains one of Wells' best-known works.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/snoozecast)

We exist in three dimensions: length, width, height. This podcast has spanned three types of classic video games: Intellivision, Atari 2600, Atari 7800. And now, much as H.G. Wells, in his 19th century novel "The Time Machine", bravely journeyed in time, the fourth dimension, this podcast is venturing into a fourth type of game... We are playing our first Atari 7800 HOMEBREW! We're playing the 2016 title T:ME SALVO, a run and shoot game inspired by Wells' novel and the movies the book spawned. Is the game destined to become a timeless classic or is it simply not worth the time? This week's short story is "Weena: Warrior Princess". Ironically, running out of time to read George Eliot's Middlemarch gave us the time to get to H.G. Wells' foundational sci-fi novella The Time Machine, in which he invents the very concept (or at least the modern nomenclature) of a time machine. Wells' protagonist is, surprisingly enough, able to make guesses about sentient life from 800,000 years in the future that just happen to align with his present-day worldview.
Time Travel – Is It Possible? Time travel is the concept of movement between certain points in time, analogous to movement between different points in space by an object or a person, typically using a hypothetical device known as a time machine. Time travel is a widely-recognized concept in philosophy and fiction. Imagine the reaction by readers of H. G. Wells' 1895 novel The Time Machine. The book was of course was ahead of its time… It is uncertain if time travel to the past is physically possible. Forward time travel, outside the usual sense of the perception of time, is an extensively-observed phenomenon and well-understood within the framework of special relativity and general relativity. However, making one body advance or delay more than a few milliseconds compared to another body is not feasible with current technology. As for backwards time travel, it is possible to find solutions in general relativity that allow for it, but the solutions require conditions that may not be physically possible.
