In this episode Osher explores rules 14-19 of his 101 RULES OF SHOW BUSINESS, including this cracker he learned from Dan Machpherson: Rule Number 16: If you arrive at your call time, you're 20min late. The time on your call sheet isn't the time you're pulling into the carpark. It's not the time you're making a cuppa in the kitchen. It's the time you're ready to go. Get there 20 mins early to do all that other stuff, because working in entertainment is a dance between hundreds of people trying to coordinate perfectly - and you need to be where you're told to be exactly when you're told to be there so that everyone else can do their job too. In sports they say it doesn't take any talent to hustle. The same could be said for punctuality in our careers and everyday life. Being on time is such a simple act and yet it says so much about the type of person we are and how we are likely to treat others and our responsibilities. It may seem so obvious and yet so many people don't take punctuality seriously, so today I share why it is so important to simply show up on time in our lives and how it demonstrates respect, responsibility and consideration of others. Because unconsciously demonstrating the opposite of those traits to people by being late can have subtle but serious consequences in our lives. Ronald Reagan's hagiography has created an entire mythology around the 40th president of the US; anticommunism and the fight against the ‘Evil Empire' are the central tropes of the Reagan story to this day. The culmination of this narrative arc is the collapse of the Soviet Union, an event which is still routinely attributed to Reagan and, particularly in conservative circles, and hailed as the ultimate validation of American political models and of American values. But the historical reality of the 1980s was far from ideologically monolithic. Andrew Hunt's We Begin Bombing in Five Minutes: Late Cold War Culture in the Age of Reagan (University of Massachusetts Press, 2022) paints a nuanced picture of the complex social and cultural landscape of the United States during Reagan's two terms. The country was in turmoil, bitterly divided over the meaning of its recent past (from nostalgia for the 1950s to the trauma of the Vietnam War) and over the direction of its future. It was rocked by street protests fueled by a rebirth of activism comparable to that of the 1960s. It witnessed the rise of fringe conspiracy theories, of popular opposition to U.S. involvement in Central America, and of widespread anxieties over nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Hunt's book captures, in fascinating detail, the enormous pushback to the anticommunist rhetoric of the Reagan regime from citizens, activists, and artists, and the role that American popular culture—from music, to television, to film— played in reflecting, and sometimes influencing, the dynamics of the age. Season 2 Episode 25: Ali Hanif In this episode, I chat with Ali Hanif, assistant coach for the Illinois State University womens soccer program, who primarily works with the goalkeepers! How Ali ended in Illinois is an amazing story. Ali grew up in Manchester walking distance from Old Trafford. Ali got the soccer itch in his early teenage years and slowly fell in love with the game. He spent time early in his coaching career as part of the Manchester United Academy. But, Ali was motivated to experience soccer outside England. He worked with Challenger Sports and spent summers in Kansas training and coaching players. The more time Ali spent in the U.S., the more he felt called to stay and coach! Ali speaks about the struggle of his cultural traditions and beliefs, and the strain it put on his relationship with his mother. Eye opening and inspirational! Ali shares his appreciation and respect for other coaches who he has worked with which is so refreshing to hear! And, as you will hear, he has a gift for gab ... great story teller! What if we are coming in 45 minutes late into the stories of those around us? What if we believed that there is more to them than we know? That what has happened in their lives has shaped how they view the world, how they interact, their hopes and fears. If we approach our coworkers, family and friends with that mindset we can understand them better and more deeply, as well as being able to work better together and give them more of what they need. This is a new format of the show. What happens in these episodes is I talk about bands that are no longer together that had a big impact on the local scene and shaped me as a musician. I'll tell a personal story or two of the featured band and play a handful of their songs. This months band is "15 Minutes Late" also known as "Logan Square". They had one of my favorite local drummers and the brooding lyrics that all the teenage kids longed for. Enjoy! Facebook.com/STSWC Enjoy!
We apologise for the late arrival of this edition of Skylines. It's unlikely to be the last time, I'm afraid: some stuff happening in the non-work bit of my life has disrupted my schedule somewhat, but I still hope to get the next episode out by the end of next week.Anyway, enough about that: this week my guest is journalist and author Matthew Engel. In 2009, he published Eleven Minutes Late: A Train Journey to the Soul of Britain – his history of the British railway system which, running pretty late myself, I didn't read until last year.Matthew gives me a quick tour of railway history, from the Victorians to Dr Beeching. He also explains why privatisation was a total disaster – but why he fears nationalisation won't help.Skylines is the podcast from the New Statesman's cities site, CityMetric. It's hosted by Jonn Elledge. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today on ”The Youth Of The Nation”, Kaden leaves us to spend time with his grandma, so Tyler is left with one option, don't do the show or get a substitute producer. So he takes his brother to replace Kaden. After we start the show 20 MINUTES LATE we discuss a Pastor in Alberta Canada who was ARRESTED for holding church service. Welcome to the new regime. We also discuss the Tokyo Olympics and Joe Biden no longer understands Republicans, but we haven't been able to understand him forever. Hey did you know this show is a live show?
