Are we not men? WE ARE DEVO and DEVO is on the No Outlet Podcast!! WOW! DEVO is One of my favorite bands and without question one of the most influential bands of all time. We were lucky enough to have Josh Hager who plays Guitar and Keyboards and we had an incredible conversation! We discussed waking up to Wing Chung (not Wang Chung) Kung Fu, the reality of Inter-dimensional beings, the evil trick that Starbucks plays on everyone (even you!), the secret ingredient in Dunkin Donuts that makes everyone so angry, the impact of intention on water (and everything else), the benefits of getting kicked out of a Church musical group, he provides us with his Mount Rushmore (plus 1) of Albums, his upcoming project with a 1990s band, The inevitability of 3IAtlas, Synchronicity , synthesizer repair (he's going to fix my Casio!), the absurd nature of the Columbia Record Club and the atrocity that is the JEEP WAVE among many other super important topics! It was a pleasure to have Josh on the show, keep an eye out for his upcoming projects...some are so cool we can't even talk about them...his Instagram is @josh2hager...stay tuned for details! We hope you all enjoyed the conversation as much as we did!#DEVO, #arewenotmen, #dunkin, #Starbucks, #3Iatlas, #wingchung, #wangchung, #casio, #purplerain, #kentstate, #godfathers, #jeepwave, #inter-dimensional, #thekinks, #wesanderson

The idea of status — how we see ourselves and how others see us — has always shaped human behaviour, from the playground to the boardroom. But in today's hyperconnected world, where likes, followers, and digital validation reign supreme, status feels more complex and more powerful than ever. Author and journalist Will Storr delves deep into this very phenomenon in his thought-provoking book, The Status Game: On Human Life and How to Play It. Drawing on psychology, anthropology, and storytelling, Storr explores how the pursuit of status drives everything from our daily choices to the rise and fall of societies. It's a compelling read that asks uncomfortable questions: Are we really in control of our ambitions, or are we all just playing the same invisible game? Join the Full e-Booked team as we unpack the book's key ideas, stories, and insights to discover whether The Status Game offers a guide to understanding human behaviour — or simply reveals how easily we can be driven by it. This week's episode of aBlogtoWatch Weekly serves up a stir-fry of watch talk, fast food analogies, and hot sauce banter. Rick kicks things off with his thoughts on "the watch recognition experience" before diving into notable new releases from Grand Seiko, Doxa, and Tudor. From Tudor's new moonphase strategy to the nuances of the Doxa 750T, the discussion reveals how brand positioning and regional markets shape today's watch landscape. And then the guys digress to, of all things, hot sauces — with Cholula, Sriracha (sung to the tune of "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off.") The conversation then takes a nostalgic turn, with shoutouts to 90s arcade games and their thematic connection to watches as fun, memory-triggering objects. Personal wrist checks keep the dialogue grounded. Then there's the question of Versace's evolving approach to watchmaking (ambitious, but what about execution?) — on the other hand, designer David Candaux's bold creations are boundary-pushing indies. The episode closes with a spotlight on the Timex Atelier collection, an accessible entry point for enthusiasts seeking entry-level quality.

00:00:03 BGM#01. Episode Overview In this episode of The Design Vault, hosts Albert Shum and Thamer Abanami explore the remarkable story of the PalmPilot—the device that solved the PDA puzzle through radical constraint. When Jeff Hawkins carved a block of wood into the shape of a shirt-pocket computer and carried it everywhere, pretending to use it throughout his day, he wasn't just prototyping a product—he was designing the first truly successful bridge between desktop and mobile computing. From its 1996 launch to its $53 billion peak valuation to its eventual absorption into smartphones, the PalmPilot's journey reveals timeless lessons about simplicity versus complexity, the power of ecosystem thinking, and why being first doesn't guarantee survival. This episode uncovers how three taps, 160x160 pixels, and a simplified alphabet called Graffiti almost gave us the smartphone era five years early. Book Title: Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8, the First Manned Flight to Another World Author: Bob Zimmerman Segment 6: Trans-Lunar Journey: Primitive Tech and a Shrinking Earth Apollo 8 launched on December 21, 1968, the first day of its six-day window. After testing systems in Earth orbit, Capcom Mike Collins gave the "go" for Trans Lunar Injection (TLI), firing the upper stage engines to propel them towards the moon. The spacecraft's computer systems were primitive, inferior even to a Casio digital watch calculator; ground control dictated long strings of numbers for manual entry. As they left Earth, Jim Lovell described the view as "like being in a tunnel," with Earth shrinking rapidly from 25,000 miles per hour. Crucially, the SPS engine, essential for lunar orbit and return, had no redundancy, making its firing behind the moon a tense moment of Loss of Signal (LOS) for Earth-bound observers. 1851

In this episode, Rick, David and Ripley fire up the engines and roast the rubber right off the horological racetrack, starting with F1 sponsorships. Richard Mille is, not surprisingly, everywhere — possibly even sponsoring Nico Hülkenberg's breakfast cereal, though sadly not his wrist. Bremont and Oris get a few pity laps around the F1 circuit, too, mostly to remind us they exist. Then comes the GPHG segment, where Bernie Watch's entry is dissected with surgical sarcasm, and the entry fee gets more airtime than some indie brands' entire press cycles. Ripley's debut on Watchonista is both celebrated and roasted — equal parts milestone and meme. His age? Unclear. His relevance? Surprisingly intact. David's deep dive into watch accuracy sparks a debate about whether a $200 watch should be accurate or just accurate-ish. Casio's mechanical debut and Seiko's NH35 go under the loupe, with everyone pretending to be regulation experts. Then it's time for “Which Watch is Like…”, a wildly off-the-rails analogy fest: Seiko is Golden Road Brewing (too many SKUs), Panerai is ProTech knives (tough but niche), and Hamilton is Crystal Geyser (dependable, often overlooked, possibly better cold). New releases get dunked on and dissected: The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms “Tech” is questioned for lacking actual tech, the Zeitwerk Date in pink gold is labeled “bougie but temperamental,” and the Vario x RZE Trench Watch is the rare affordable winner.Check Out This Week's Sponsor:Ace Jewelers - https://www.acejewelers.com/

This shift allows for investment while keeping a focus on its mission of developing AGI for the benefit of humanity. The change responds to previous criticism about reducing nonprofit oversight.”OpenAI's nonprofit mission fades further into the rearviewSam Altman urges lawmakers against regulations that could ‘slow down' U.S. in AI race against ChinaKohl's CEO Fired After Investigation Finds 'Highly Unusual' Business Deal with Former Romantic PartnerKohl's CEO Ashley Buchanan was fired after an internal investigation revealed he violated the company's conflict-of-interest policies. The probe found that Buchanan directed business to a former romantic partner, Chandra Holt, who is the CEO of Beyond Inc. and founder of Incredibrew. Holt secured a multimillion-dollar consulting deal with Kohl's under unusually favorable terms, which Buchanan failed to disclose. As a result, Buchanan was dismissed for cause, forfeiting equity awards and required to repay a portion of his $2.5 million signing bonus. This marks the third CEO departure at Kohl's in just three years, highlighting ongoing leadership instability amid declining sales.Proxy Firms Split on Harley-Davidson Board Shake-Up MMGlass Lewis= Withhold; ISS = What's happening at Harley exactly? We have a fun twist at the proxy cage match between Harley Davidson and H Partners, who are 9% shareholders and have started a withhold vote campaign against long-tenured directors Jochen Zeitz, Thomas Linebarger, and Sara Levinson: Glass Lewis says “withhold” but ISS says “support”?Through lackluster reasoning based on hunches and not performance analytics, ISS revealed, without satire, that "[T]here are compelling reasons to believe that as a group [the targeted directors] still have a perspective that can be valuable” and, in discussing the candidacy of departing CEO Jochen Zeitz: “[I]t appears that his time in the role has been more positive than negative, which makes it hard to argue that his vote on a successor is worthless.”Testimony in House Hearing: “Exposing the Proxy Advisory Cartel: How ISS & Glass Lewis Influence Markets”A 2015 study found that 25 percent of institutional investors vote “indiscriminately” with ISS [1].In 2016, a study estimated that a negative recommendation from ISS leads to a 25-percentage point reduction in voting support for say-on-pay proposals [2].A 2018 study demonstrated that a negative recommendation from ISS was associated with a reduction in support of 17 percentage points for equity-plan proposals, 18 points for uncontested director elections, and 27 points for say-on-pay [3].In 2021, a study examining “robo-voting”—the practice of fund managers voting in lockstep with the recommendations of ISS—identified 114 financial institutions managing $5 trillion in assets that automated their votes in a manner aligned with ISS recommendations 99.5% of the time [4].A 2022 study provided further evidence that institutional investors are highly sensitive to an opposing recommendation from a proxy advisory firm. Opposition from ISS was associated with a 51 percent difference in institutional voting support compared with only a 2 percent difference among retail investors [5].During the 12 months ending June 30, 2024, negative recommendations from the two proxy advisory firms were associated with (1) a 17-percentage point difference in support for directors in uncontested elections at the S&P 500 (96.9% with the firms' support vs. 79.7% without); (2) a 35-percentage point gap for say-on-pay proposals (92.8% vs. 58.0%); and (3) a 36-percentage point difference for shareholder proposals (42.4% vs. 6.6%)Why Leo XIV?
