The Apple Watch Ultra, New Smartwatches From Tag Heuer, Louis Vuitton, And Sequent, Plus A Look At The Credor Eichi II And Why G-Shock Won't Make A Smartwatch In this episode ofaBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ariel, Rick, and David are joined by Andrew from Watchfinder & Co. for a deep dive into the world of smartwatches. Given the recent release of a new generation of Apple Watches and the massive amount of attention that the Apple Watch Ultra has received from traditional collectors and enthusiasts, our hosts kick off the show by answering the question of whether or not the Apple Watch should even be considered a watch in the first place. From there, the conversation gets into why the new adventure-ready Apple Watch Ultra appeals to many individuals who historically had no interest in traditional smartwatches, along with whether or not its design was influenced by the traditional Swiss timepiece industry. Given its more durable construction and ability to even function as a proper dive computer, our hosts bring up the point as to why many people tend to inherently trust Apple over many traditional watch manufacturers when it comes to things like depth ratings, along with how Apple is able to excel at creating intuitive and easily digestible interfaces. Although the new generation of Apple Watches is arguably the biggest news from the world of connected devices, it is hardly the only option available within the space, and our quartet of hosts then get into a conversation about some of the other premium smartwatches that are currently available, such as those produced by Tag Heuer and Louis Vuitton. After discussing why these models fill different roles within the greater connected watch landscape, Ariel then offers some insight on why Casio has decided not to pursue smartwatches, despite its G-Shock range being regarded as the go-to digital timepiece for rugged use. After pondering the question of whether or not any wearable connected device will be able to dethrone the Apple Watch at some point in the near future, our hosts move to the complete opposite end of the timepiece spectrum to talk about the ultra-premium Credor Eichi II and its different approach to luxury, before moving back to the topic of connected devices with the unconventional and irreverent Sequent Smart(ass) Watch that was created in collaboration with seconde/seconde/. To wrap up the show, our hosts look at some of the various shortcomings of smartwatches and get into the details of why connected devices such as the Apple Watch aren't currently entirely solar powered, along with when we might be able to see brands produce models that are able to charge themselves autonomously. I'm your host Kelly Preece. And every fortnight I talk to a different guest about researchers development, and everything in between.   00:32 And today I'll be talking about cultural cross borders. Hello, everyone. My name is Pankaj Singh. I'm a second year PhD student in the Department of English and film studies. Now, what exactly is decolonization? decolonization is the process in which a country that was formerly a colony that was colonized by imperialism or by a par, they they go away and they make that country independent and they lose the stop controlling that country and that country becomes independent internal, this is the process of decolonization. Now, India became independent from the British Empire on the 15th of August 1947. Do it became a republic, it decided to be a part of the Commonwealth of Nations. Hence, it did not severe away all the ties from the British Empire by being part of the Commonwealth nations it accepted the honorary monarchy being being a part of the Indian constitution and in I'm sorry, not the Indian constitution, but of the Indian public in in, in the general terms, not talking a little bit about what the history of India and the UK share is, trade was established between two ringland and Mughal India in the 1600s. When elicited when Elizabeth to one granted the newly formed in East India Company Royal Charter by sending precious gifts to the Mughal court, Emperor of Akbar the trend following the Indian rebellion of 1857. When Indian sepoys rebelled against the British officers, the East India Company was dissolved. The assets of the British East India Company was so huge that the British government decided to step in, and after a series of military encounters established British dominion over India. Later, the English sought to consolidate their political control by taking responsibility to improve the lot of the masses by imparting modern Western education. They took over on themselves which is dubbed as the White Man's Burden, they took over that responsibility of making the Indian masses of socially religiously, morally economically, better human beings. A part of this being Lord Macaulay is minute on Indian education, which came out in the 18 clitic farm. He wanted to establish a class of persons Indian and blood and color, but English and taste, opinion, morals and intellect. According to him, these people would act as intermediaries between the British rulers and the masses that they were to. Indians, however, welcome this decision with open arms. They had their own perceived notions that this charter this minute would help them it was not just the freedom fighters, but also the social reformers who saw the benefits of this plan and how it would work in their own favor. reformers like Raja Ram and Ravi and others crap the opportunity to do away with the dogmatic and Orthodox religious rights, when they realized that is new scientific approach would be important to the Indian education and they would realize that these religions rights were dogmatic and not really something that should be followed. Similarly, the freedom fighters to grab this opportunity and part of collaborating with each other, from different parts of the country to to   04:39 to move forward the nationalist independence movement. Now why was that? It was because India was and still continues to be multilingual. It has 22 languages recognized in the HTML of the Indian constitution, and when Broadmoor collies minute came into being ink, then English became the lingua franca and freedom writers from across regions could actually connect and plans that would work for the very downfall of the British Empire that that brought home that had brought this English language into the country. While all of this was going on in the political front, in the literary front, Shakespeare as a playwright began to gain popularity he's his stories of creed, part, revenge and jealousy, the times and the new no borders. Even after independence, Indians continued to like his filmmakers took an opportunity to make films that were based on Shakespeare's plots. And they thought that his plots were timeless and they could actually adapt to them to the Indian culture. This brings me to my research topic, which is how paraglide trans culturally adapted to Elizabeth and drama to the Indian setting. Today, I will be talking about how the Elizabethan drama written by William Shakespeare in 16 104 that is Othello gets adapted into Ankara, which was a film that released in the year 2006. Cannot be bounded by geographical borders, the emotions of discontentment, jealousy, insecurity, are felt by all residing in any part of the world. Ha replied to spank on the Shakespearean play, and takes pride in being associated with the writer who wrote for the teaching, which ruled his country for centuries. The filmmaker however, does not blindly transform the Elizabethton play of Shakespeare into a film. Rather he adds the elements of Indian Ness in it, which makes the adaptation a unique process he adds in Hindu mythic elements and other features that are exclusive to India. The chief point of the play will tell you is that Otello belongs to a different race than Desdemona, the counterpart the female counterpart. This gets trans culturally adapted in the Indian setting, but how to judge many banks on the emotion of jealousy and insecurity. He bases his film on the very inhibition, which also happens to be a very famous Hindi dialogue in the Bollywood cinema, that a girl and a boy can never be just friends. This inhibition was the root cause for Omkara jealousy and the belief that dolly Desdemona might have cheated on him with case that is Casio. While in the play, Iago makes Roger equal believe that Desdemona loves Casio, he says that they have the same appearance and that will tell you is stop that bringing in the disparity of talent between the levels. In the film this gets adapted when dolly and que su are seeing together and they seem compatible, because they share the same educational background. The the, the issue of caste, the issue of column, never find the mention it is because they will educate together that they become compatible, thereby making Ankara jealous and insecure, that he is approved, and therefore, he is not as in par with the case who as he would have been had he been Western or modern educated. The second method of adapting the play is when Bhardwaj reimagined the character of into the Indian counterpart for Amelia, making her vengeful at Carly, who kills her husband Lambert yaki, the Iago figure for the misdeeds he had done. Thus, Bhardwaj birdwatcher takes a significant departure from the text, because while in the play immediate dies at the hands of Thiago and that is how we see that that's how Amelia is not really able to stand up for Desdemona. Into however, becomes the avenging mother who dresses the wrongs done to her.   09:41 Not only her but also broadly, who she thinks to be her younger sister, or her child. The name into means moon and according to the Hindu mythology, the moon protects the inhabitants of the earth in in the night from the evil forces that look in the dark similarly, in the two dresses the drums metadata and Dolly balandra and the scenes take place in the light rail into as a protector of the good forces fight against the evil forces, which here are represented in Lanre and defeats him. You even though Indu is not the female protagonist here, her position in the development of the plot is of significant value. In the film, Iago is called Long long meaning lane, which attributes to another mythological figure, Shang. Shang is a planet that, according to the Hindu mythology, is a slow moving planet that revolves around the sun, and is associated with black collar and walks with a limp. This mythical trigger is associated with bad luck. And that's the drawing influence of lambda in Ankara. Light can be equated to the beginning of Ankara has done for since Shani said to be the God of karma or one's actions, it can be concluded that Ankara is himself involved in his own downfall. As he is unable to see the truth and false through the deceitful plans of flora. Shani is also associated with black color as a tall talked about he walks he can be seen in the film, in the form of long long walks in with a limb in the dark alleys. He is always shot in dim light, and he adds to the mystery which brings about a kind of mystical persona that holds some secrets within his heart, and that alludes to the dark intentions that he has. My argument is that while Iago becomes the green eyed monster in Othello, longer becomes the demonic figure associated with evil and dark horses, and black is the color associated with him. pilotage also seems to have borrowed from Rahman, when adapting Otello to the Indian context, as the basic fact remains that both in the epic so in the plane or in the film, where the main character are misled to distress the loyalty of their respective rights, just as in Roman law drum believes the words of a washer man and things got a Sita was not loyal to him. So does in the film, Ankara believe two words a camera and considers the dolly is having an illicit affair with case behind his back. The words of Brandon Turner who is destined Mona's father pelo. Look, look at have more if thou have eyes to see, she has deceived her father and me she did get an Indian adaptation to the word three archery three, three archery three is a term that is mentioned in MGS. Murthy, which is a religious, religious Hindu text. It refers to the mysterious character of women, which is translated or real translation stands as nobody knows about the character or tendency of a woman.   13:21 It is thus, a critical evaluation of how Shakespeare's plays were translocated and adapted into the Indian setting, along with aiming, rethinking and repositioning Shakespeare in 21st century intends cinematic setting, acting as a cultural bridge, joining the culture of two different countries to get this fighting with the past and thinking that things were different, and they would have been better if they were different. It is better if we see a future that knows no boundaries, and that where where we share and serving and a future where we share the same legacy and making a new history there, all of our cultures collaborate. My larger argument does is if we as New Age, researchers are able to strike a balance between the methods and means by which the old Pinocchio texts are read and analyzed. And that connection is established between the colonizing power not seeing it as a curse, but rather seen is at seeing it as a means of new forms of connection, a call a new area of decolonizing research will develop it will see literature as belonging to all it does not restrict it by borders or by geopolitics, or where the nations or the nationality of the author lies, but rather assimilating and making literature and music accessible to all.   15:03 And that's it for this episode. Don't forget to like, rate and subscribe. And join me next time where I'll be talking to somebody else about researchers development and everything in between.

Downupright on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 9/6/22 About Downupright - Downupright is Bill Boulden (they/them), 37, from Buffalo, NY. Bill started making digital music around the age of ten by goofing with Microsoft MIDI Studio and some Casio keyboards. Across the next twenty-seven years Bill would go on to learn Cakewalk, Sonar, Reason, Serum, and Ableton as each became the next big thing. They released many projects across those twenty-seven years under a variety of different artist names.   In 2018 they fully crowdfunded their album ‘Music To Die Alone In Space To' through fan support to a whopping 25k in funding, earning it a spot on Kickstarter's “Projects to Watch.” Each album was recorded for the backer, making every recording unique.   Since 2020 Downupright has released what they call “High Energy EDM”- fast, energetic electronic music that plays freely with genre as long as it's upbeat.   Downupright has a signature “High Energy Sound” with big builds and beats that change quickly, and lyrics that focus on the challenges of living on the mental illness spectrum. You haven't yet secured your free place for our upcoming webinar discussing the approach taken by the CMA to ensure that retailers may freely set their retail prices, online, for musical instruments? Here is your chance to join Annabelle Gauberti on Wednesday 31 August 2022, 15:30pm London time (UK) as she explores the facts, procedural history of the CMA cases against top industry players Fender, Casio, Yamaha, Roland, GAK and Korg, all heavily fined for Resale price maintenance (RPM). In this webinar, our expert speaker will discuss: - What are the facts which led to the five cases against major players in the musical instruments' industry? - Why has the CMA decided to take a heavy-handed approach to rectify behaviour, in the musical instruments' sector? What is the procedural history of these five cases? - What are the takeaways from these five CMA cases for suppliers, manufacturers and retailers, from a PR standpoint and competition law standpoint?

In this episode of aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ariel, Rick, and David are joined by Simon from Escapement24, and our quartet of hosts sit down to discuss some of the latest articles and new releases from this week in the world of watches. Last episode, the off-topic question came up about how many whales you could fit inside Wales, and to kick off the show, Matt from the Spirit of Time podcast phones in to inform us that he has done the math, and the country of Wales can fit approximately 185,653,333 blue whales inside of it. After sorting out that important bit of business, the conversion then turns to watches and how the secondary market for Rolex models has been crashing in China, with a 46% drop in price compared to the inflated values from last year. After briefly discussing the concept of a “man drawer” once again and Rick coming to the realization that he doesn't just have a single drawer allocated to his junk, but rather entire sheds full of it on his farm, our hosts then get into a conversation about the various factors that can make watches uncomfortable to wear, along with the most physically painful watches our hosts have ever experienced. From there, the discussion shifts to the idea of sustainability within the watch industry and how certain environmentally-friendly buzzwords end up getting co-opted by brands in the name of marketing efforts and corporate greenwashing. Ariel brings up the point that given how little physical material actually goes into the production of watches, it may not be a worthwhile endeavor to pursue more sustainable manufacturing materials, when the entire watch industry itself is based upon the celebration of indulgence rather than outright economy or efficiency. The conversation then takes a quick break for a surprise interview with Mike France from Christopher Ward, who gives us a sneak peek at the brand new C60 Trident Pro 300 and what we can expect from the brand's latest new model. David's review of the diamond-set digital watch from Casio is now live on the site, and our hosts briefly discuss the possible motives behind why Casio produced such a model in the first place, before wrapping up the show by talking about some of their favorite discontinued watches and which ones they would like to see make a comeback. 14:45 Grinding Gears: Why Some Watches Are Uncomfortable & Possible Solutions To The Problem | aBlogtoWatch 26:38 Thoughts On How To Interpret Sustainability And Environmental Friendliness Claims From Watch Brands | aBlogtoWatch 33:05 Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 300 47:45 Casio A159WAD-1D Watch Review: Should You Buy The Cheapest-Ever Diamond-Set Watch? | aBlogtoWatch 53:10 No Longer Made: Louis Moinet Jules Verne Instrument Watch | aBlogtoWatch We'd love to hear from you with feedback or suggestions for future show topics or guests. In this episode ofaBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ariel is away attending to other business, so Rick and David are joined by guest host Andrew — a.k.a. “The Man With The Hands” from Watchfinder & Co. to talk about the latest news and reviews from this week in the world of watches. To start the show, a quick message from Jake, the aBlogtoWatch Social Media & Community Manager, sets off a discussion about how the ever-changing algorithms are forcing everyone to use “Rolex” in YouTube titles as clickbait, which spirals into a conversation about the psychology behind clickbait itself and how the way we consume video content has changed over the years. To properly measure the effects of clickbait, the trio decides to conduct an experiment using two different titles for this podcast episode, and given how discussing clickbait-worthy topics seems to come naturally to Andrew, you can have fun guessing about which version you're actually seeing. From there, the conversation gets into Rolex and how the brand became the world's most famous watchmaker, along with why Andrew thinks Porsche is the car company most like Rolex (see, we told you he naturally talks about clickbait-worthy topics). After discussing the homogenization of people's preferences in regards to watch collecting, the trio gets into a discussion about affordable GMT watches, the cheapest diamond-set watch available, and the least expensive timepieces in everyone's collections that receive wear on a regular basis. Finishing up the discussion of new releases and reviews is a conversation about whether or not the removable grill on the latest Cartier Pasha is just a plot to make more money on replacements when customers inevitably lose theirs, followed by a brief discussion about the new Seiko Speedtimer and the brand's obsession with difficult naming conventions. Lastly, rounding out the show is a brief look forward and what we can expect from both Andrew and Watchfinder & Co. in the near future.34:34Actually Affordable: Bottom-Dollar GMT Watches | aBlogtoWatch42:34Hands-On: Cartier Pasha With Removable Grille Watch | aBlogtoWatch49:34Seiko Debuts The Prospex Speedtimer Chronograph SRQ043 Watch | aBlogtoWatchaBlogtoWatch launched the first-ever podcast about watches back in 2010 and continues to be the most referenced and respected publication for watch enthusiasts, buyers, and collectors in the world. If we were all actually on a dogwatch today, on a boat in the middle of the ocean, our guest for this episode is literally the first person I would choose to bring along. His name is David Burch, and he is not only the founder of the Starpath School of Navigation in Seattle, but he has over 70,000 miles of oceangoing navigation experience, has navigated across the Pacific over 10 times, and even has developed a “doomsday” kit, the size of a shoebox, that allows him to navigate anywhere in the world without power or any electronic devices for the next twenty years. Clearly, David is the one who could help us get to where we want to go.In our conversation, David describes the development of the Starpath school, his background in navigation and the new developments in navigational charts, and using the stars and technology as a GPS-independent mode of navigation. He also helps us understand why the Casio F-91W wristwatch–priced at about $14–may be the best watch for navigation, why using an analog watch to get a compass bearing, the “Boy Scout” method, is almost always ineffective, and why you should never make a smart aleck remark about the ocean.

Everyone was "Counting Blue Cars" back in the late 90s with the band DISHWALLA.  The track earned them a Billboard Award for “Best Rock Song” for 1996 as well as two ASCAP Awards for “Rock Track of the Year” in both 1996 and 1997, driving Pet Your Friends to sell more than a million copies worldwide. Touted by fans and industry alike as one of the best live bands to come out of the 90's, Dishwalla is here to stay, with the stories and bruises to prove it.  Drummer George Pendergast joins Casio this week to talk about their new EP ALIVE available everywhere.

It's that sneaky second gifting season of the year (dads, grads, retirements, anniversaries…you get it!), and we're here to answer your calls for help. Ooh, speaking of calls: Want to leave us a voicemail at 833-632-5463 and share any thoughts/feelings that demand our podcasting attention?   If it's time to gift someone a watch: Max Bill for Junghans and Baume & Mercier Classima are classics and about $1k. Uniform Wares has minimalist vibes and top out around $500. Check out Fewer Finer for some vintage options! We also recommend looking into a sporty/casual vintage watch from Casio or Seiko—Foundwell and eBay are great places to explore (this one, this one!). Also: Swatch does custom. If you're looking for a watch for a little, Flik Flak's still got it (see: their recent Hodinkee collaboration), and Parchie and Mini Kyomo are cute for kids, too. For true watch experts, turn to Hodinkee and Dimepiece.   For men turning 40 whose watch taste is too $$$: We love the idea of a signet ring, and Kathryn Bentley does great ones. We also recommend a record player (and personally endorse Plus Audio and Technics by Panasonic Direct Drive Player System via eBay). To add to the record collection, maybe gift a subscription to Vinyl Me Please or round-up albums that came out during their birth year. Related gift: fancy speakers like the ones by Oda. Nice luggage is also a good call—we love Want Les Essentiels, Porter-Yoshida, and classics like Rimowa, Tumi, and Calpak. For hobby gifts, how about a surfboard, a film camera from Photodom, ceramics classes (s/o to Artshack near us!), or pickleball gear from Recess or Nettie (on the topic of pickleball, this New York mag profile of Connor Pardoe). Last but not least, NORMALIZE GIVING MEN FLOWERS!    For retirement gifts: Ask close coworkers to participate in something personal—maybe use Tribute or Padlet or go old-school and collect pictures and letters to make a scrapbook. We also love Storyworth! Or how's about helping them get oriented with a new hobby: For the dad in our VM, maybe a Backroads Bike Tour or a Bianchi bike (find them and other snazzy bikes used on Bike Exchange). There's also personal training: For a virtual option, check out Future (a good review).    When someone's having a baby but not their first one: Set the parent up with a massage (maybe an at-home one through Zeel) or food delivery from Ipsa, Three Owls, or The Culinistas. Treat them to a robe, slippers, a weighted blanket from Bearaby, or a bed tray (Chairish and 1stdibs for cool vintage ones and West Elm, and Offi for new ones) Or: Get something to keep the sibling busy! Non-messy craft projects like needlepoint/sewing kits (love Unwind Studio and LittleExplorersPlay) or a subscription to The Picture Book Club. For the new baby, what about a not-hand-me-down, home-from-the-hospital look from Makie or Lewis? Or something keepsake that second (and third and fourth) kids tend to get less of like a handknit blankie or a puzzle name stool from Damhorst Toys.   What to maybe, possibly ask for when you move into a new home: A return-address stamp from Paper Source or custom house numbers from House Number Lab or Casson. Outdoor stuff can be pricier than expected, so ask for plants from Fast Growing Trees, Plant Gem, and David Austin Roses, a local-nursery gift card, or gardening tools from The Floral Society or Terrain. What about a Solo Stove or a Barebones Living Portable 30" Fire Pit? Or a grill! We like the Weber Spirit II E-210 LP and the Lodge Sportsman's Pro Cast Iron Grill. Get into composting with an indoor bin from Bamboozle. Entertaining stuff is a good call—think an Insalata Serving Bowl or platters from Conran Shop, Bitossi Home, Christian Lacroix, Farmhouse Pottery, vintage spongeware from The Six Bells, and vintage Limoges on Etsy. Ooh, and framing, c/o your local frame shop or Framebridge! Finally, stools: Artek, TipToe, Bed Bath & Beyond, Metal Lab, and ChezRai ones specifically.
