    Gold for Going?

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 25, 2022 42:48

Well, at the time of publishing Gary Gold still hasn't resigned as Head Coach of the USA Eagles Mens XVs team, but surely it is only a matter of time? It's not exactly the happiest of Thanksgivings for USA Rugby, with failure to qualify for the Rugby World Cup in France next year giving cause for all sorts of speculation and chatter about the current and future state of the game in the States. So naturally we had to join in with some particularly brutal take downs of Gold and USA Rugby hierarchy.Jon still believes there's room for optimism though - positivity breeds positivity and all that! - so long as the club, college and pro levels are nurtured correctly, and whatever funding the US governing body gets isn't spaffed up the wall on another big-name overseas coach who ultimately doesn't care for the overall health of rugby in the US.Following our lengthy dissection of the Eagles v Portugal match and subsequent fallout, we also have a whole pile of news to get through including further elaboration on the newly-announce Chicago Hounds, building on what we touched on last week, and all the other MLR news. Drafts, player signings, the season schedule for 2023 - it's all in here today! We also give a quick update on the US squads for the upcoming Dubai and Cape Town Sevens legs of the World Sevens series, including an interesting new quick with the players' squad numbers. We finish up with the Raptor Report, where we do our best in the face of an information drought to update you on the American Raptors fortunes against the Colombian national side in Medellin, as well as the news that 3 former Raptors - including one who played in that match - have been selected in the XFL draft, and speculate about what this may suggest about the finances in American rugby. To donate to the Shetland RFC Movember effort, please click here.If you'd like to follow along on our socials you can do! - @allamericanrugbypod on Instagram, @aarugbypod on Twitter or by emailing aarugbypod@outlook.comWe also have our facebook group, where we discuss all things American rugby, making it the place to keep up with the show between shows! Apparently the answer to that question is last weekend. Who knew? Join us as we dive in and discuss all the international action from the Rugby World Cup FQT, The Hong Kong Sevens and the small matter of the Rugby World Cup Semi Finals, before looking ahead to the 3rd place play off and final of that same World Cup.There's also an international flavour to the Raptor Report this week, with the team heading to Colombia to take on the national side there at very short notice - at least publically. This follows their announcement of Sarah Chobot as full-time head coach after her interim stint saw victory over St Mary's College Gaels. On the domestic front, there's the latest ahead of the MLR Expansion and Dispersal Drafts, including the latest reaction from the players' union the USRPA and what they hope to secure for their members as they face a ton of upheaval over the next few weeks. There's also the latest wheelings and dealings on the signings front. We also have a very important Movember update, and why starting conversations about men's health - both physical and mental - is so important. As stated, the DMs are always open if you feel you need to talk, and while I'm by no means a medical professional, I can share resources to those, and I'd rather have a conversation than hear someone has taken their life.To donate to the Shetland RFC Movember effort, please click here.If you'd like to follow along on our socials you can do! - @allamericanrugbypod on Instagram, @aarugbypod on Twitter or by emailing aarugbypod@outlook.comWe also have our facebook group, where we discuss all things American rugby, making it the place to keep up with the show between shows! Adios, Stupidnames, it's been no pleasure at all. Nah, that's maybe a bit crass given the news that the Austin Gilgronis and LA Giltinis are finally no more, as confirmed by MLR this week. It's huge news for the league, and rugby in the US in general, and we have all the latest on the situation - along with all the other MLR hits: Juan Capiello's retirement, Ma'a Nonu's returnment, and George Killebrew's happy birthdayment... - in this week's American Rugby News, brought to you by ShopMLR.comOnce again we have a full round-up of all the World Cup matches, including the North American Classic contested by the USA Eagles and Canada, England swatting South Africa and the Black Ferns sweeping Scotland. Jon also gets a bit ranty about referees and the NZRU as we preview the Quarter Final stage, which sees the Eagles take on... Canada. Again. This format sucks.A packed Raptor Report breaks the news that Head Coach Paul Emerick has left the American Raptors with immediate effect to explore further career opportunities (whatever that means!), to be replaced by Sarah Chobot in yet another pioneering move from the Colorado outfit. We also review the match with Seattle where the boys fell in with a former team-mate-turned-Seawolf.And finally, Johnny "Mother" Rucker has a little Mother's Advice for the Eagles as they prepare to take on the syrup drinkers for the second time in a week!If you'd like to follow along on our socials you can do! - @allamericanrugbypod on Instagram, @aarugbypod on Twitter or by emailing aarugbypod@outlook.comWe also have our facebook group, where we discuss all things American rugby, making it the place to keep up with the show between shows! What a weekend of rugby we had last week! So many upsets and incredible MLR games, plus not one but two World Sevens Series Tournaments to cover, and if you think that's too much action for us to possibly cover, think again because it's all here in the All American Rugby Podcast!Jon Pulley catches you up on all the latest breaking news stories when it comes to rugby in the USA, before taking you through both the men's and women's sevens tournaments held in Toulouse, France.Following this, Jon moves onto the MLR round up, where we get to relive all of the matches from Round 16. Johnny "Mother" Rucker weighs in with his Smash of the Week too - the only bright spark in a dark week for Rugby New York! The Raptor Report, tracking the fortunes of the American Raptors is somewhat curtailed by the lack of a match last week following a late call-off, however there is a home game against the Giltinis academy, the equally stupidly-named Rising Stars. We round up with our preview and predictions for this week's MLR fixtures, after Johnny Rucker has weighed in with his weekly words of wisdom in Mother's Advice. If you enjoy the show, don't forget to leave us a 5-Star rating and positive review - I'll read out any nice ones on the show! - and please remember to tell a friend and share the podcast on your social media. You can follow us on twitter @aarugbypod and on instagram @allamericanrugbypod, and if you'd like to support the show further, why not head to https://www.patreon.com/allamericanrugbypod where you can get early access to episodes, bonus content and exclusive merchandise! If the monthly subscription model isn't your bag, we also have a merchandise store, where until the end of May (2022) you can get 20% off everything using the code LAUNCH20 at checkout.
