My two cents on premiere Orlando and where the beauty industry is going.this weekend opened my eyes because it validated how I've been feeling about the industry. I know this won't affect everyone, but its something to think about as you progress within the industry.I love my industry and my friends, but either we learn how to grow together or we will continue to grow apart.
The social media mentor is here and is spilling all the juicy deets.Jamie Dana @jamiedanahairstylist came on the podcast and told us about her journey with social media, specifically Instagram. She learned all the in's and out's of instagram and turned it into digestible content for beauty pro's to do the same. and truly, she was the first person I saw in I the beauty industry to do what she's done. I remember when I saw her content for the first time, my eyes opened like a deer in headlights. between her and Carly zanoni, they are the root of my love for social media.Listen to how Jamie has trailblazer herself through social media and continues to help others with theirs!go check her out and see what she's all abouthttps://www.instagram.com/jamiedanahairstylist/
THE RULES OF SUCCESS! This episode is short, but it's spicy.take notes.
I get this question a lot, and I'm spilling my secrets!!! listen to this episode if you want to learn how to attract brands and work with them. if you want to take this even further, book a shadowing session with me here
Carly Zanoni @theblondechronicles is HERE!I had the chance to interview my friend Carly and truth be told, this episode was really just for me LOL. I admire what Carly has done with her audience on social media and what her mission stands for as we have similar missions. Her education has been a staple to many and a staple in the hair industry. She's the truly encompassed the "fuck it, I'll figure it out" mentality and I just love that about her.The Blonde Chronicles was the first virtual education platform that I saw that piqued my interest, and I love what she's done/continues doing with her social pages. Her raw take on building a social platform is why she continues to be one of my favorite educators. She speaks about the truth to building an empire and that it's not as easy as it looks, so if you ever find yourself comparing, just remember that we all start from not knowing what the hell we're doing. They say surround yourself with people you want to be like, but instead I get them on my podcast (and also surround myself with them lol). if they inspire me, they'll definitely inspire you.check out Carly's page and all that she offers!https://www.instagram.com/the.blonde.chronicles/

Oh shit - this is how I'm telling the world.Yep, I shut down my hair studio. Through this wild journey of healing, I've been feeling confined to the 4 walls I called my salon and craved a change. I wanted to do something I've never done before and truly test my talents. I believe you don't have to be chained to location if you are truly an artist. I put so much weight into having a space to create art that I almost didn't trust myself outside of it.. and I didn't like that. my views on how "I want to make others feel good" is actually selfish
I was so fuckin' pumped that Ethan accepted our invitation to come onto the podcast.Let me explain how Ethan and I met.So our mutual friend Kerri (who also manages my podcast!! ily) had a birthday party that Ethan was at. we met, and instantly we started talking business. He had just launched this fragrance brand Elsewhere and he gave me these little wax samples of his candles for me to smell. He explained how each scent works and the imagery that comes with it.. I was HOOKED.I loved his confidence behind his brand and I loved the way he sold it to me. I'm a sucker for a good story - and that's what he does with his fragrances. he tells a story.I loved his journey to becoming the owner of elsewhere, and I'm so glad he came on the podcast when he did. oh hey - another internet friend.Welcome Bailey Lavender; a kind and tender loving soul who found herself with social media success after a traumatic upbringing in this industry.I've heard alot of shit before - hell I've endured my own shit. But to hear that an owner belittled her because of her weight baffles the hell out of me. like who the fuck does that!? I could not IMAGINE being an owner and degrading someone like that.. all because they didn't fit your standard of appearance.it's so cool that Bailey was able to create a successful career out of talking about her experiences, and has created an insane following on social media because of it! Fun fact - I was introduced to Bailey by a good friend of mine, Meg! buuuuuut I didn't know who Bailey was before this LOL. and now she's a homie for LIFE.go check her out!TikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@thebaileylavender?_t=8blicYzp3F4&_r=1Instagram:https://instagram.com/thebaileylavender?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=YouTube:https://youtube.com/@Thebaileylavender
here's a helluva hot take: stop shit talking Behind The Chair man.Just because something didn't work for someone doesn't mean it won't work for you. We have GOT to get a grip on our emotional maturity.you know how much shit is going to happen to you in your life that "isn't fair"? does it give you the right to slander a company just because of your experience? while I understand "warning" people or even just telling your story, but remember to have it come from a place of LOGIC rather EMOTION.you're allowed to feel the way you feel - but to tear others down just really broadcasts the lack of emotional maturity.
I used to hate Julie Smith (@thathairmagic) and I invited her to be on my podcast.I hated Julie because she was something I wasn't. She had things I didn't. So instead of asking her how she did it, I used it against her and formed a jealousy based dislike all because of my own ego. It wasn't because I thought her work was better than mine, or that I thought she was a better artist in general, it was quite literally because she got something I didn't.. how fucking silly is that?after checking my ego and getting out of my own way, I grew out of that mentality and started to realize the people I hated were the people I actually needed in my corner, so I reached out and asked if she would be on my podcast. She accepted and flew out to me on her own account! I was SHOOK. She had NO idea that I used to feel this way about her. She came out here because she wanted to make a friend and speak her truth on a podcast, as simple as that.We met. I told her. We laughed. We teared up. We celebrated each other. We created core memories. I would 100% consider her a homie and someone I could call on and count on - even though I used to hate her. not another internet homie (hehe)I seriously am loving that I'm finding all my friends on the internet.anyways, this was a fun one! I interview Sara Carr who transitioned from the corporate world to the creative world. Personally, I think she has the upper hand. Most of us in the industry don't know jack shit about being a business owner, let alone how to manage people, and truly it's a major downfall.. I believe Sara is the epitome of "getting shit done". I find is so interesting that she started in the game later on in life yet has been able to take life by the horns. Despite being a decade apart in age, Sara's youthful outlook on life is quite refreshing.Listen to how she navigated the corporate world into the creative world amongst other random tangents we go on (ADD and ADHD don't mix LOL)More about Sara _"With a passion for high-quality services, I've been involved in the hair industry since 2012. Samantha (@samanthasbeautyconfessions) and I talk about balance - the biggest topic of them all.Everyone is so consumed with this thing called balance and how it's suppose to look a certain way, when that is truly the furtherest thing from the truth. Balance is what looks and feels right to YOU! You can't balance the same way someone else does - you don't have the same lives for heavens sake. It's important to take the tools given to you and use them in your own way, rather force yourself to follow a strict schedule and work at the pace that someone else does. I'm not saying you can't try a new way of life, but when that doesn't pan out, don't beat yourself up.Listen to how Samantha and I balance our lives, the projects we do, and how we conquer it all!Samantha Harman is a hairstylist, educator and social influencer based in Marlow, Oklahoma. A member of the Behind the Chair team and an Ambassador for Salon Centric, this #ittakesapro team artist's work won Educational Post of the year at the 2022 One Shot Hair awards. She was acknowledged as a Modern Salon Top 100 Stylist in 2019 and has received nine One Shot nominations.Samantha has a passion for helping others — whether she's providing behind the chair services, teaching social media classes or sharing hair hacks with consumers, she is dedicated to providing others with the knowledge, tools and products needed for self empowerment.Links:My story on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpUUqkfViGc&t=417sSubscribe to my YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@samanthasbeautyconfessionsFollow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/samanthasbeautyconfessions/Follow me on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@samanthasconfessions?lang=enPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/samanthasbeautyconfessions/

holy shit - we interviewed the man, the myth, the LEGEND, Maggie.Listen to this exclusive interview as I fan girl Maggie and Linh HARD (I've been following them for years. and actually, the headshots I have for The Fuck You Mentality are inspired by some of Maggie's headshots lolololol).I've always admired Linh's success. if I'm being honest, I knew Linh before I knew Maggie; but when Linh brought her into his life, I KNEW she had to be special.Maggie's passion for this industry aligns with my core. She looks at the industry as a creative outlet, rather being closed off as a "stylist" and finding other artists like this is HARD.but.. I've always wondered about her journey to get to where she was. truly, she's one of the hardest working artists I've ever seen. her dedication is unmatched.I love her honesty and transparency, and her ability to fight for what she believes in.Listen to learn about where it all started, how her and linh created this empire, and how she deals with imposter syndrome.read more about her:Maggie Hancock was born with a natural passion for art and creativity, and with that passion, along with her extremely hardworking spirit and strong determination for success, she launched herself into her career as a wildly successful hairstylist and industry educator. She is not only a hairstylist and educator, but also a mother to her 7-year-old son. Maggie is the co-owner of Phanhaus Scottsdale - a well-known salon in Scottsdale, AZ. She is also the co-founder of Phanhaus+ - an online streaming education platform for hairstylists. loyalty is not meant to look the same for everyone - or else that would be boring and growth would never happen.in order for myself to stay loyal to someone I love, I had to walk away. and there is a lot to be said about that.never feel guilty about doing what's best for you, but never let it come from a place of negativity.loyalty is suppose to grow and change, just like relationships do.but remember, pain is growth, and growth is never comfortable.
Here are are with yet another homie made over social media.. Trish V.But Trish V is a traveling hair stylist between California, Vegas and Hawaii who specializes in blonding on dark hair.. which is fucking TOUGH.But you'll soon see that I learned that she is a NEWBIE in the industry and is out here BLOWING MY GOD DAMN MIND.I really value Trish because of her humbleness.. I don't have much to say in this description because I'm at a loss of words for this interview.Check her out!https://www.instagram.com/hairbytrishv https://www.tiktok.com/@hairbytrishv
just that. - focus on the feelings that you're after.you know, the more you say "I only attract negative men in my life" why don't you pay attention to what kind of message that sends?realize the power in your words and act on it. your subconscious is listening to you when you speak. if you say "I'm gonna have a bad day" well guess what, you're going to have a bad god damn day.speak your peace into existence and let the universe do the rest.
todays interview is with Leece (@looksbyleece) and we have an honest conversation about life.. it was just like talking with a friend.we have a casual conversation about expectations of our selves, how that applies to our job, and just little tidbits of thing's we're passionate about.this interview was different because it didn't really have a direction, we literally were just bullshitting. so join us on this interview as we have a casual conversation about some interesting topics and remind ourselves that we shouldn't be guilty for living our lives.
people only get to access 1% of you.. only you know yourself better then anyone else.imagine allowing someone to dictate your life over 1%. let that sink in.
LMAO I know you guys are like "what the fuck" at the ep name.. listen to the episode for it to make sense. trust me, you'll understand.I interview Meg Gilbert aka @mermeghair and we chat about how salon ownership has gone for her, what social media has done for her, and honestly, just have a good ass conversation. I can't even find the words for this episode because it left me feeling very fulfilled..she's a genuine soul who just wants the greater good for people. one of the biggest takeaways I learned about her is she puts aside the commissions from her stylists selling products into an account for them to use to invest in their education.. like literally saves money for them to be able to use to better themselves.who the fuck does that? meg does, that's who.I can truly call this person my friend. despite this being literally the first time we'd ever spoken, I feel like I left the interview with a new homie.Meg (@mermeghair) is a salon owner in Cincinnati Ohio, where she paints her corner of the Midwest rainbow. "mermeg" specializes in color but specifically loves vivids and has recently fell in love with big transformations with rainbow hair and extensions. TikTok is where she really connects with other stylists using humor, client before and afters and what she's wearing in the salon. A big passion of Megs is talking about “community over competition” in the industry and how we can all help each other learn and grow. This passion is what has been fueling her love to educate both independently and for brands since 2019. In 2023 you'll see Meg in salons and across the U.S. teaching classes including vivids, reds/coppers, social media, photography and filled with lots of laughs. If you see her at a hair show this year, go give her a hug!tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mermeghair?lang=eninstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mermeghair/?hl=enboth @mermeghairlink tree: https://linktr.ee/mermeg.hair?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=bcdaad69-5dad-4d63-a0f2-6006bc802d30

I get asked a lot about how the hell I handle it all - and the answer is really simple.self discipline comes from acceptance.I've been on this self love journey/ journey to figure who the hell I am for quite some time now, and what I've learned along the way is that I'm different - but everyone is different. there is no need to try to work, live, be like anyone else besides you. I've accepted that I have ADHD. I am also medicated for it now. I have done so much research and my own trial and errors to see what works for me and what doesn't; instead of basing my life off everyone else.I like who I am. in fact, I love who I am.and the way I learned how to be this disciplined, is just accepting the way I was designed :)Get in contact with me!Shoot me an email!info@artistryoflisag.comCheck out my websitehttps://www.artistryoflisag.comGo to my instagram to see more of me!https://www.instagram.com/artistryoflisagMy tiktok is hilarious - check it out!https://www.tiktok.com/@artistryoflisag?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc

using the term "specialist" is bold in my opinion.there's nothing wrong with using it, BUUUUUT make sure when you do say it, you can tackle anything that comes your way that fits in that category.I recently went on a mini-rant on tiktok (here's the link https://www.tiktok.com/@artistryoflisag/video/7160720487054806318?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7027942275053667846 )and I talked about how using the term "specialist" can be super misleading as a client. while I totally understand the marketing aspect of it all, I also have seen clients get super excited seeing that on social media, booking, and being let down because while the stylists page said "blonding specialist", the blending that was taking place was really just on level 6 and above.Blonding on blonde hair is totally different from blonding on dark hair. therefore, using such a broad term for specialty shouldn't be used.I'm all for niching down in your specialty! I personally take on color corrections, but not just any color corrections, I prefer box color, broken, hard to lift, medically changed hair. I'm a solution based artist. I provide solutions to these kinds of problems. and that's my niche!there is nothing wrong with saying that you specialize in blonding on lighter hair, you specialist in creating lived in looks, or even specialize in blonding on dark hair! but we've gotta make sure we're saying this in my our social media. doing this will help avoid any mishaps between you and guests, and you're able to nurture the clientele you already DO have.anyways, no harm no foul. let's make this an easier place for clients to understand. :)You like what you hear? dude, I love the internet man. This is Samantha Harman, or as some may know, @samanthasbeautyconfessions.She reached out to me once she listened to one of my episodes, the episode about my childhood trauma to be exact. She instantly resonated with what I had endured, but also wanted to share her story too. This was the first time a bigger creator reached out to me because of my podcast, and if I'm being honest, I was shocked when she did.The point of my podcast is to bring people together and show them that vulnerability is a beautiful thing. Social media doesn't have to be smoke and mirrors. You can use your platform to create this beautiful space of peace, happiness, and connection. It felt so good that she got the message - that through vulnerability, she felt safe enough to share her story too. She reminds us that she's also a human being. She experiences emotions just like the rest of us. She is just like the rest of us.It feels so good that the podcast is getting into the right hands (or dare I say ears ;)listen to Samantha open up about her childhood, how that shaped her career, and also a devastating divorce.. how she experienced her "aha" moment and it lit a new kind of fire under her ass.Samantha Harman is a hairstylist, educator and social influencer based in Marlow, Oklahoma. A member of the Behind the Chair team and an Ambassador for Salon Centric, this #ittakesapro team artist's work won Educational Post of the year at the 2022 One Shot Hair awards. She was acknowledged as a Modern Salon Top 100 Stylist in 2019 and has received nine One Shot nominations.Samantha has a passion for helping others — whether she's providing behind the chair services, teaching social media classes or sharing hair hacks with consumers, she is dedicated to providing others with the knowledge, tools and products needed for self empowerment. Ahhh yes - I've been waiting to talk about this.I no longer brand chase. I have come to the realization that I don't do well with contracts, being told what to do, or having rules - and I don't mean to word that so negatively, it's just facts. I have just come to terms that I am too independent to chase things of that nature.I've always said I wanted to be apart of something bigger then what I am, and I am - in my way. I'm apart of Mirella Manelli's team and we're building Rebel Femme. together. with a team. and we're learning together.that's enough for me.I'm happy working with the brands that I do because they love me for me and love my knowledge. they appreciate my honesty, and remember that I'm only human - and I don't even have paid deals with them. and guess what? that makes me happy. I'm happier creating these strong fundamental relationships over chasing a check.here's your reminder to never compare yourself to someone else. if you want what someone else has, make sure you ask them all the questions and get to the bottom of why they do what they do.Get in contact with me!artistryoflisag@gmail.comwww.artistryoflisag.comwww.instagram.com/artistryoflisaghttps://www.tiktok.com/@artistryoflisag?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc
