Hello and welcome to the wander mom diaries podcast! I'm your host Mandie and during season 2, we have the theme of self-care, overcoming adversities, and women empowerment, this episode dives into all three! I would like to give a preliminary warning that suicide is talked about during this conversation which can be triggering. With the pandemic, suicide and depression statistics have increased, so I have added suicide prevention resources in the show notes for your reference. During this conversation, you'll hear Dr. Marisa Naismith's incredible story of overcoming one challenge after another and hear empowering messages about self-care and finding your voice. Marisa grew up in Australia and has been in the music industry as a singer from her early teens and is now a singing coach and music industry mentor. Marisa also fosters singing communities around the world so my original intent was to discuss that, but as she kept sharing her story, I ended up scrapping the questions I originally planned and just went with the flow of the conversation and I think the result is truly impactful. I hope you enjoy this moving conversation with Marisa! Today's episode is different from all the rest so far, and that is because it is an actual diary entry from a resilient mother in the Philippines named Myrna Fe. During Fe's interview, we had a lot of recording issues with the sound, so I asked her to create her own solo cast so we could still share her story. I love the opportunity to hear stories from mothers around the world, so if you would like to submit your own solo cast to the show, send me an email at wandermomdiaries@gmail.com. If I were to pick one word to describe Fe, it would have to be a fighter. She was a fighter making ends meet as a young single mom, she was a fighter in making adventure and exploration a core value between her and her daughter, and today she still fights against the odds after a risky spine operation that has left her much less mobile than she used to be and need to look for new employment opportunities. All of these adversities have led to some amazing things for Fe, along with the enthusiasm to take on new challenges and opportunities. I think I've said enough, I'll let Fe fill you in on her inspiring story. Welcome to this episode about how you can start your journey to self-discovery. This season's theme is self-care, and understanding yourself and knowing why you are the way you are is a critical step towards taking action to improve your life. Why? Because sometimes we do things and we don't really understand why, for better or for worse. When you understand yourself, then you can move forward and make choices that fulfill you as a person. Gaining clarity on who you are is also extremely energizing and empowering. So this episode is about a journey, but a journey to the heart, soul, and overall self. What I'm going to share with you today are the steps I personally took to self-discovery that I found extremely helpful. I finally understand why I am the way I am, what I value and why, and what I don't value and why. I am also going to share some excellent resources that helped me along the way. Welcome to this trailer to season 2! I have had the privilege to interview some amazing women for this podcast, and as the interviews were collected, it was by fate that the next batch of episodes all fell under the umbrella of self-care. You will hear empowering stories of mothers overcoming challenges, strategies you can implement from self-care experts, and more. You'll hear voices from Australia, the Philippines, and all around the USA. I think this theme of self-care that you'll be immersed in during this season is so critical during this time when we have been almost two years in pandemic mode. This environment we've been put in creates loneliness, depression, and anxiety, so now couldn't be a better time to address these situations and give you tools and inspiration to help yourself be the best version of yourself. Of course, we talk about travel and adventure as well, so there really is a lot for you during this season! Welcome to the Wander Mom Diaries, season 2! I'm so glad you're here! Hey fellow mommas! My name is Mandie and I'm so excited to share with you the launch of the Wander Mom Diaries podcast! I'm a pretty new mom, my daughter was born in the exciting year of 2020 in Sweden, a country far from home but after she was 3 months old our ex-pat assignment was up and we packed up our life, two dogs, a baby, and headed home to Michigan! Looking back on all the traveling I've been able to do near and far to home makes me feel very grateful and I can't wait to share future adventures with my daughter. I love being a mom, but I also know that there is more to me than being a mom, a wife, a teacher, a daughter... we are pulled into so many different roles that it is easy to forget that we need to do things for ourselves too. There is that adventurous and active part of myself deep down that is often suppressed in life's priorities. But now I'm making time for me, and I want you to join. Hopefully, you get inspired to blend your love of travel within all your different roles in life, or maybe this motivates you to meet other moms, or do a solo trip. The opportunities are endless. If you like this podcast, please give it a rating and review, it is very new and it helps it get discovered by more people! Welcome to the Wander Mom Diaries Podcast, an opportunity to clear the fog of motherhood and hear stories from around the world about adventures near and far to home, along with advice to simplify your busy life. In this episode, you'll learn what this podcast is about and get introduced to me, Mandie, your host for the show! I love traveling and have been fortunate to have so many opportunities to explore in my life before having a child, and now that I'm a new mom, I'm trying to find ways to balance my life's ambition with life's reality, and the reality is, things are just different now. It's a good different, but I'm definitely on a journey to blend the identity I once had with my identity now. I don't have all the answers, but I believe that we all have value from our experiences that could help one another and that is exactly why I created this podcast. In this show, a wander mom is defined as a woman juggling all the things but still has the desire to stay ambitious and find adventure in life no matter what obstacles come her way. You will hear interviews that focus on adventures you can do with your family along with episodes packed with helpful advice to, hopefully, make life a little easier. If you're intrigued and want to hear more, then I must welcome you, fellow Wander Mom, I'm so glad you're here! Get an idea about the purpose and content within The Wander Mom Diaries Podcast! This show is aimed to help and support adventurous mothers find ways to make traveling easier with kids and to also empower them to find themselves again in the busy life of a mother.
