A teen in Los Angeles is suing her school, her principal, and the USDA because she's being muzzled over milk! School officials told Marielle Williamson that she could only talk about nondairy alternatives at her high school if she also promoted cow's milk as well. She says that's unfair because dairy is already heavily advertised in schools while major barriers limit access to things such as almond, oat, or soy milk even though the majority of students in her school are lactose intolerant. Studies show that up to 80% of people of Hispanic decent are lactose intolerant and roughly 75% of students who attend public school in LA are Hispanic. Marielle says her freedom of speech is being trampled along with the health of her classmates. She and attorney Deborah Press join The Exam Room Podcast to sit down with “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to discuss the extraordinary case. — — LAWSUIT — — https://bit.ly/SchoolMilkLawsuit — — UPCOMING EVENTS — — Exam Room LIVE in New York Tickets: https://bit.ly/ERLiveNYC2023 When: July 12 Where: Museum of the City of New York Who: Dr. Neal Barnard, Rip Esselstyn, Dr. Robert Ostfeld, Chuck and others! — — — Planet Bethesda When: June 4 Where: Bethesda, MD Website: https://planetbethesda.com — — FOLLOW US — — Chuck Carroll Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ChuckCarrollWLC Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ChuckCarrollWLC Facebook: http://wghtloss.cc/ChuckFacebook — — — Physicians Committee Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/physicianscommittee Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PCRM.org Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/pcrm — — — 5-Star Success: Share Your Story Apple: https://apple.co/2JXBkpy Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2pMLoY3 — — — Share the Show Please subscribe and give the show a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or many other podcast providers. Does The Corporate and Political Persuasion In Either Party Support Nutrition For Better Health? T. Colin Campbell, PhD• https://nutritionstudies.org/ • Book - China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long Term Health #TColinCampbell#ChinaStudy #PlantBased #WoleFoodDiet T. Colin Campbell, PhD has been dedicated to the science of human health for more than 60 years. His primary focus is on the association between diet and disease, particularly cancer. Although largely known for the China Study — one of the most comprehensive studies of health and nutrition ever conducted, and recognized by The New York Times as the “Grand Prix of epidemiology” — Dr. Campbell's profound impact also includes extensive involvement in education, public policy, and laboratory research. Dr. Campbell grew up on a dairy farm and was the first in his family to go to college, where he studied pre-veterinary medicine at Pennsylvania State University. After obtaining his bachelor's degree, and while completing his first year at the University of Georgia veterinary school, he received a telegram from a well known professor at Cornell University, offering a scholarship and research opportunity too good to turn down. And so he completed his education at Cornell University (M.S., Ph.D.) and MIT (Research Associate) in nutrition, biochemistry and toxicology. He then spent 10 years on the faculty of Virginia Tech's Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to Cornell in 1975 where he presently holds his Endowed Chair as the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry in the Division of Nutritional Sciences. Dr. Campbell's research experience includes both laboratory experiments and large-scale human studies. He has received over 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding (mostly with NIH), served on grant review panels of multiple funding agencies, actively participated in the development of national and international nutrition policy, and authored over 300 research papers. Throughout his career, he has confronted a great deal of confusion surrounding nutrition and its effects. It is precisely this confusion that he has focused so much on, in recent years. In order to synthesize the findings of his long and rewarding career, and to give back to the public whose lives are threatened by rampant misinformation and special interests, Dr. Campbell co-wrote The China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health, which has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. He is also the author of the The New York Times bestseller Whole, and The Low-Carb Fraud. Several documentary films feature Dr. Campbell and his research, including Forks Over Knives, Eating You Alive, Food Matters, and PlantPure Nation. He continues to share evidence-based information on health and nutrition whenever given the opportunity. He has delivered hundreds of lectures around the world and he is the founder of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and the online Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate in partnership with eCornell. To Contact Dr. T. EPISODE 84: Raised in North Dakota's cattle country, Neal Barnard grew up studying piano and cello. Barnard started composing and recording songs in the 80s. With a penchant for the avant-garde, Neal constantly writes songs that defy any genre categorization. He chooses unconventional time meters as well, in order to “tilt the song ever so slightly and give you that little jolt between the ears,” as he puts it. Barnard launched CarbonWorks at a 2016 event at New York's Metrograph, hosted by Alec Baldwin and Maggie Q. Its line-up included singers from Italy, France, and the U.S., with rock and classical instrumentalists. While this is Barnard's fourth album, following Pop Maru, Verdun, and CarbonWorks' 2016 release, he is better known as a medical pioneer who formed the Physicians Committee in 1985 to rally for prevention, nutrition, and higher ethical standards in research. In 2006, funded by the National Institutes of Health, Barnard used a low-fat vegan diet to revolutionize the treatment of type 2 diabetes and has used similar approaches to skewer weight problems, women's health issues, and other medical challenges. “In music or medicine, we have to look out of the box,” he says. Michael Friedman wrote in Psychology Today, “Neal Barnard has never been one to accept the status quo.” twitter.com/DrNealBarnard Contact us: makingsoundpodcast.comFollow on Instagram: @makingsoundpodcastFollow on Twitter: @JannKloseBandJoin our Facebook GroupPlease support the show with a donation, thank you for listening!

Tony Schiera was more than 700 miles into a 1,000-mile long bicycle ride from Indianapolis to Washington, DC with his wife Rachel when tragedy nearly struck. They clung to hope that he was just dehydrated, but that hope quickly faded when he was rushed to one of the premiere cardiac centers in the United States. Despite being exceptionally physically fit, Tony had major blockages in at least five arteries. Doctors told him that he required life-saving quintuple bypass surgery. It proved to be a success, but only the first step in a new life. Although heart disease ran rampant in his family, he and his wife embarked on a mission to find out whether genetics were to blame for his brush with death. What they would learn would change both of their lives and Tony's outlook for the future. He was no longer living on borrowed time. He was now destined to live to a ripe old age. Together they have discovered that a new way of eating doesn't mean depriving themselves of their favorite foods. Instead, it means discovering heart healthy recipes to make them, including one for mac and cheese!
