In the very first episode, I bring on my close friend, Sabrina Kirberg, who played her first pro-level tournament at age 14! She takes us through what it is like to play Florida juniors, ITF pro tour, college tennis, Jabuer representing the Middle East, and the difference in tennis culture across countries. In this episode, I introduce ATP player, D1 athlete, YouTuber, and ambassador for Swedish pancake serves, Simon Freund. I flew to Stockholm to meet up with Simon to learn more about this experience playing for LSU, UCSB, playing ITFs, a challenger, and ATP 250 debut at the Stockholm Open.Simon reached a career in singles back in 2020 reaching 677 and doubles career high of 361! He's incredibly talented but, even more importantly, he's extremely passionate for the sport. The center is primarily known for hosting the Miami Open, one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional tennis.Founding and Early Years: The Crandon Park Tennis Center was established in 1969, and it quickly became a prominent venue for tennis events. Its location on the picturesque Key Biscayne, surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, added to its allure.Miami Open: In 1987, the Miami Open, formerly known as the Lipton International Players Championship, moved to Crandon Park. The tournament gained significance as a key event in the lead-up to the Grand Slam tournaments. In this episode, I get a few minutes with the greatest wheelchair tennis player of all time, Shingo Kunieda! We talk about what he's been doing since he retired a couple years ago, how he got started playing tennis, his toughest challenge in his tennis career, and his final achievement winning Wimbledon in 2022.Kunieda has won 23 singles Grand Slams, 27 doubles Grand Slams, and has 9 Paralympic medals, making him one of the most accoladed athlete the sport has ever seen. Kunieda's impact extends far beyond the tennis court. He is a tireless advocate for disability rights and inclusion, using his platform to raise awareness and inspire others to overcome adversity. His resilience in the face of challenges serves as a beacon of hope for individuals facing similar obstacles, demonstrating that with perseverance and determination, anything is possible.I ran into him at he Miami Open on one of the side courts as he was practicing for an exhibition match. Vishal has a long list of accolades including representing India in Davis Cup, former captain of India's Fed Cup team, captain of India's Junior ITF team, winning an Asian Games Medal, and founder of the Tennis Project where we are located, a project that was started to give more Indian tennis players better access to international level tennis.
