Previously, Jonathan was a Product Manager at Particle, Google/Nest, Magneto, and Myspace where he spent his time building IoT solutions. In this episode, Sam sits down with Jonathan to discuss the concept of digital twins, the future of IoT databases, and how to build a real holodeck.-------------------“I think about IoT when I started at Nest, we had some of the best engineers I've ever worked with. Starting from first principles, defining networking protocols, and introducing new specifications that became parts of the fabric of the internet. And fast forward 10 years later, a lot of that exists now as building blocks. Someone who's not a PhD with a lifetime and achievement award from the ITF can go actually design systems that are highly productive, integrated, and enabling. And that's where I get excited. And the through line I think is enabling teams of developers to really create more with their own bare hands. And the technology around it, that is that enabler.” – Jonathan Beri-------------------Episode Timestamps:(01:33): Jonathan's motivation for starting Golioth(08:59): The role of data in IoT(11:01): What is a digital twin and why does it matter?(17:12): The classes of problems Jonathan is trying to solve(20:35): The future of IoT databases in the next five years(31:04): What open source data means to Jonathan(32:24): Jonathan explains how to build a real holodeck(33:42): Jonathan's advice for those excited about industrial data-------------------Links:LinkedIn - Connect with JonathanTwitter - Follow JonathanVisit Jonathan's WebsiteLinkedIn - Connect with GoliothTwitter - Follow GoliothVisit Golioth

From time to time, The Coaching Podcast understands that we all lead busy lives, and sometimes you might have less than 10 minutes in your daily schedule to listen to The Coaching Podcast for inspiration. Therefore, our guest coaches this week are Coach Mick (Chris Michalowski) and Jorge Capestany - performance coaches who walk their talk. With years of coaching experience, these bite-sized interviews, from years ago, still hold true today when we reflect on their responses as to what makes a great coach: Coach Mick (1 min, 50 seconds) - believes that a great coach has passion, compassion and empathy. Coach Capestany (4 mins, 58 seconds) - believes that a great coach can see possibilities, is a lifelong learner and can customize their content to meet the needs of the learner. Emma is very grateful to Jorge and his wife, Coach Marty, for their hospitality of love over the years and for introducing her to Coach Mick during a Polar Vortex in Michigan when they were both speaking at a high school conference. You can learn more about each coach below: Coach Mick, Chris Michalowski, USPTA Elite Professional & USTA High Performance Coach From Coach Mick: My ultimate goal is to get to know you better, but first I will fill you in on who I am, just to break the ice. My name is Chris Michalowski. I am a USPTA Tennis Professional and Director of Tennis at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa (click here to see) in one of the most pristine areas of Northern Michigan. Next to my faith, wife and family, tennis is a passion of mine that I hold dear to since I started playing, seriously anyway, at the age of 13. Tennis really broke me out of my shell and gave me confidence in many different areas of my life. I became a ranked junior player and was one match away from winning a state championship in high school. Three years after I started playing, I started teaching at the Midland Community Tennis Center, in Midland Michigan. It is known as one of the top clubs in the nation and recently, Midland won the “Best Tennis Town” by the United States Tennis Association. I loved to teach and wanted to learn as much as I could about the game (it helped my playing too). I knew that teaching was in my future, but my coach at the time encouraged me to stay in Architecture, my other career consideration , because of the long hours and the toll tennis takes on the body. I was accepted into the University of Cincinnati's architecture program, which was rated very high at the time, but the long hours in the studio kept me from playing and teaching. While at Cincinnati, the Ferris State University coach called and informed me that he wanted me to play on the team and take part in their new Professional Tennis Management program, the first ever, endorsed by the United States Professional Tennis Association. I was all over it. I walked through the doors and from there, never looked back. I was a member of the varsity mens team and when I wasn't hitting, I was absorbing all I could to become the best possible teaching professional that I could be. I am still that way and it drives my wife crazy sometimes. But to be honest, I feel that you can never stop learning and becoming even better at what you love to do. I have remained at the resort for 25 years as the director and was a director in the summertime (for 4 years) at one of the most prestigious country clubs in the Midwest at the time. Two jobs was a lot to handle so I decided to stay here where I feel like I was called to be. Thankfully, I stayed or I would not have met my incredible wife and parent four great kids we have been blessed with. One thing that I will always stand by, just like playing a match, is that when you are up 5-2 in the set, remember how you got there and keep doing the things that got you there in the first place. Don't change your game style at a critical time, especially when you are so close to winning the set The same goes for my outlook on teaching and my career. I still average close to 40 hours a week on the tennis court, manage a staff of 12 teaching professionals/instructors and stay active building tennis in my community with sore knees and all. I love being out there and that is what got me to where I am today, so why change things at 5-2 in the set? Do I consider myself an expert? The industry has said yes, but it is not that simple because tennis has changed over time and keeps advancing in exciting ways. I feel that it is important for teaching professionals, like myself , to stay in tune with sport science, new trends and teaching techniques, technology and new ways of teaching the game so that I can stay on top of “my game.” If I taught the same way I did 20 years ago, things would be very different for me right now and I would not have the opportunities and successes that I have been blessed with. Even as a USPTA Midwest Tester, I still learn something each time we administer the teaching exam to new tennis professionals. So what does all this mean? It means that through the use of technology and my knowledge and relationships that I developed with experts from around the world, I hope to be able to have a relationship with you and help in any way that I can to take your game to the next level. Moving Parts: A Framework for Improving Automotive Supply Chain PerformanceWithout context, strategy, and systems, the current automotive supply chain can seem like a complex web of disjointed parts. Combine that with the pressure to deliver on the promise of delivery and you have a recipe for disorder, bottlenecks, confusion, and frustration.   Fortunately for OEMs everywhere, Cathy Fisher, Founder and President of automotive systems firm https://quistem.com/ (Quistem), and Terry Onica, who directs vertical solution strategy for enterprise resource planner (ERP) and supply chain solution provider https://www.qad.com/ (QAD), dove deep into ITF 16949 and MMOG/LE. Their goal — to unearth and demystify the workings and management of the auto supply chain machinery — resulted in an easy-to-implement framework that integrates and summarizes the two sets of professional standards and guidelines. In this episode of Auto Supply Chain Prophets, co-host Jan Griffiths talks with Cathy and Terry about their findings and how they used them to identify 24 processes that are essential to the automotive supply chain, creating a five-step, easy-to-follow roadmap to optimize supply chain performance.  Themes discussed in this episode:  How a simple roadmap can make the seeming complexity of the automotive supply chain a lot more manageable and improve performance.  The value for an organization of identifying its 24 essential processes in making good on the promise of delivery.   How, without context and careful application, investing in IT solutions can cost time and money instead of saving them.  The extremely valuable (but often under-utilized) employee who's been with the company for decades and knows its systems and processes inside and out.  The necessity of a seat at the C-suite table for supply chain leaders.  Featured on this Episode  Name: Cathy Fisher Title: Founder and President, https://quistem.com/ (Quistem) About: Cathy's firm helps its clients, particularly automotive clients, eliminate customer complaints and increase their profits. She has worked in the automotive supply chain since the 1980s when she started her career with General Motors. Her career began in supply chain in the late 1980s when she led a team to implement  Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for all the Ford assembly and component plants.   Connect: https://www.linkedin.com/in/terry-onica-615979/ (LinkedIn) Name: Jan Griffiths  Title: President and Founder, https://www.gravitasdetroit.com/ (Gravitas Detroit) About: A veteran executive in the automotive industry, Jan previously served as chief procurement officer for a $3 billion, Tier 1 global automotive supplier. Welcome to Season 11, Episode 21, of the ParentingAces Podcast, a proud member of the Tennis Channel Podcast Network. Coach Todd Widom is back for this episode to discuss Old School (or, as he calls it, Proper School) coaching versus New School coaching. Then the conversation segues into how best to utilize the information provided by ratings and rankings. This is a good one! Todd grew up being coached by the ultimate Proper School coach, Pierre Arnold. Todd has incorporated the lessons he learned from Pierre to provide an environment for his students to learn and achieve whatever goals they have set for themselves. It's not always easy and it's not always fun and games BUT it is always with the intent of helping his players become the best tennis player they can be. That said, one thing that seems to get in the way of that intent is the prevalence of ratings and rankings and the focus on the number instead of overall development. With USTA implementing yet another rating - the ITF's World Tennis Number (WTN) - Lisa and Todd felt it was important to have another discussion on growth versus fixed mindset and what best serves our junior players. For more information on WTN, read Lisa's recent article here. If you have any questions or would like to get information on Todd's training, you can reach him at todd@twtennis.com. We begin by discussing the fact that the ATP, WTA and ITF have decided to strip Wimbledon of ranking points over its decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players. What are the main factors behind this decision? What other options were available to them? Will this lead to further stand offs between the tours and the Grand Slams? And why have the ATP and WTA not stripped tour events of ranking points too? We then switch to talking about the headlines from an excellent media day at Roland Garros, which Catherine, David and Matt all attended. Perhaps the highlight was the way in which the leading WTA players - Naomi Osaka, Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Paula Badosa - all opened up, revealing so much about how they're feeling. On the men's side, Novak Djokovic's game face and Rafael Nadal's humour got our attention.
