The Sunshine Swing is almost here as the ATP and WTA Tours gear up for the one-two hit of Indian Wells and the Miami Open. In the final week of build up events to Tennis Paradise out in Palm Springs, Stefanos Tsitsipas (with his mystery racket in tow) captured his first ever 500 title in Dubai to re-enter the ATP Top 10 whilst Emma Navarro dished out a very rare sighting - a 60 60 double bagel in a WTA Final at the Merida Open. There were also wins for Tomas Machac, Laslo Djere and Jessica Pegula who got a new tennis fan in the form of Oscar winner and Hollywood A-Lister Matthew McConaughey watching on from the cheap seats in Austin. We also had a look to see what Jannik Sinner has been up to whilst serving his doping ban (clue - it involves fashion shows and ski trips) plus react to the news his Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award nomination has been withdrawn and seemingly replaced by his rival Carlos Alcaraz. Elsewhere, we preview what's ahead in Indian Wells and question whether this might just be the most open Masters event yet of the season with both the top women and men still searching for their very best form.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. [From the archive: This episode was originally recorded and published in 2020] On today's episode, I spoke with former ATP Top 10 singles and doubles player and Grand Slam Champion, Spanish pro Emilio Sanchez, about how to develop a more aggressive tennis game. Emilio achieved career high rankings of #7 in the world in singles in 1990 and #1 in doubles in 1989. He won 3 Grand Slam Doubles titles (two French Opens and one US Open) and a silver medal in the 1988 Olympic games in men's doubles. During his tennis career, he won 15 singles titles and 50 doubles and made over $5 million in prize money.  Emilio has both played for and captained Spain's Davis Cup Team to a championship title in 2008. He is the co-founder of the Sanchez-Casal Academy (Academia Sanchez-Casal) where he helps all types of tennis players achieve their true potential. On the show, you'll learn how to become a more aggressive player and why it is important to your long term success, how to become a better thinker on the court, Emilio's top returning strategies, how Emilio reached the top 10 in the world in both singles and doubles, what it was like to both play Davis Cup and captain Spain to a championship title, footwork and movement tips, and much more! I hope you enjoy my interview with Emilio! Let us know what you think about the episode in the comments below! It's time to predict the ATP Top 10 for 2021. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer look to continue to fend off the fast-improving younger generation. The aforementioned crop of players--- Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev--- seek a breakthrough. Dominic Thiem has already ascended into the elite tier, but perhaps he can go higher. All the projections are here, in my top 10 prediction.

Last week I published an article on the new partnerships between Universal Tennis Ratings and the two major coaching certification organizations, USPTA and PTR (click here to read the article). And this week UTR announced another new partnership with Chinese Tennis organization Love Sports. Now, you have the opportunity to hear from UTR's CEO, Mark Leschly, about how UTR works and what's in store for the future. Since there seem to be a lot of misconceptions around UTR and its algorithm, I thought this would be a great chance to clear up some things and give you a peek behind the curtain. Universal Tennis is the company behind UTR powered by Oracle, a revolutionary system that provides a single, unifying language and standard for tennis players across ages, geographies and genders. The company’s vision is to unify tennis for everyone by bringing cutting edge analytics and community based technology to players worldwide independent of level. UTR is a unique, algorithm-based system for tennis that allows anyone to measure, identify and track their level relative to other players, while also providing tools for coaches and organizers to run UTR Powered Events that are level based rather than age or gender driven. Today the UTR powered by Oracle system is gathering data over 6.5 million match results, across 700 thousand players in over 200 countries. The Company is owned by Iconica Partners (www.iconicapartners.com) and other seasoned investors, advisors and operators in tennis, sports, technology and media. Partners include Ken Solomon, President of Tennis Channel; Mark Hurd, CEO of Oracle; Jan Leschly, former CEO of Smithkline Beecham and ATP Top 10; Ken Hao, Managing Partner, Silver Lake Partners; Tennis Media Company; and the LA Dodgers investment group.  To sign up for UTR powered by Oracle, please visit www.MyUTR.com. Mark Leschly combines both an in depth knowledge and experience in sports and tennis with nearly 25 years of entrepreneurial management and investment in technology led businesses as a venture capitalist and startup CEO. He is a former ATP ranked player selected to the Danish Davis Cup, two time Captain and #1 player for Harvard Men’s Tennis and a member of the USTA Foundation Advisory Board and USTA Player Development Council.  Mark is the Founder and Managing Partner of Iconica Partners, a principal firm investing at the interface of sports, media and technology. He is an owner in several sports teams and leagues including the Los Angeles Football Club (Major League Soccer team in LA), Professional Fighters League (a new MMA league), Team Liquid (esports) and Oklahoma City Dodgers (AAA Minor League baseball team). He is an owner and Managing Partner of Rho Capital Partners, a leading technology focused venture capital and private equity firm with over $2.5B under management (www.rho.com).  Mark received an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and a B.A. with honors from Harvard University where he played tennis all four years. No Challenges Remaining

Ok, let’s get this out of the way: the audio quality on Episode 10 is not great. But what it lacks in aural clarity it more than makes up for in content quality. Ben and Courtney touch base after Week 1 of the French Open to talk about the first week happenings, the second week’s predictions, and a bunch of ancillary topics including the television commentary so far, Hawk-Eye on clay, the State of Serena, Vexing Vika, how far the ATP Top 4 have pulled  away from the rest of the field, and we rank the Slams.

No Challenges Remaining

When it rains, it pours. Here’s another bite-sized lost episode that Ben and Courtney recorded while they pretended that the NHL hockey playoffs were just as important — if not more so — than tennis. R&R the No Challenges Remaining way, folks. In Episode 8b, we Ben and Courtney discuss the loss of American tournaments to South America, tennis humblebraggers, the difficulty of writing about anyone outside of the ATP Top 4, and we Take a Number.
