The 2025 season is over, and Hall of Famer writer Steve Flink joins the show to recap the ATP Finals and the year's top storylines. Flink analyzes how Jannik Sinner was able to defeat Carlos Alcaraz in Turin, and explains why the Italian is so tough to beat on indoor hard courts. The journalist examines the Italian's commitment to evolve, the gap between the top two and their peers, and how Novak Djokovic will adjust to his new position off of the top of the tennis mountain in 2026. And Flink assesses Felix Auger-Aliassime's first Top 5 ranking, and the state of American tennis. As someone who's written for many of the biggest tennis publications in the world, Flink has established himself as one of the most credible voices in the game. He recounts how he discovered a love for tennis, his first jobs in the industry, and what he learned from legendary mentors Bud Collins and John Barrett. The Hall of Famer even shares his favorite memory of the Davis Cup on this informative episode of Inside-In. Hosted by Mitch Michals. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Mark Philippoussis joins Viv Christie in Pod Laver Arena to reflect on a career that saw him crack the top 10, reach two Grand Slam finals and star in two triumphant Australian Davis Cup teams. The Melburnian's star soared when he stunned world No.1 Pete Sampras as a teenager, in his home city, at Australian Open 1996, and two years later appeared in his first major final at the 1998 US Open. Philippoussis admits his second major final defeat, to Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2003, was more painful to process. Yet just a few months later he ended that year on a high, playing through a torn pectoral muscle to clinch the winning rubber over Spain at Rod Laver Arena, which saw Australia crowned 2003 Davis Cup champions. Since retiring, Philippoussis has pursued an interest in fashion yet has remained connected to the sport through legends events and coaching, revealing how much he enjoys watching the current generation of men's and women's stars. Canadians who've never before heard of the Davis Cup, a men's team tennis tournament, grew outraged when they discovered Canada was hosting Israel in a match on Sept. 12 and 13. Anti-Israel activists demanded a ban on the Israeli athletes over their country's war in Gaza; pro-Israel advocates insisted the sport remain free of political interference. In the end, nobody won: Tennis Canada announced they would not permit any fans to enter the venue this weekend, refunding anyone who bought a ticket. What will likely ensue is a relatively uneventful match between two lower-seeded tennis teams, accompanied by some everyday protests outside. But while Tennis Canada cited security concerns for their decision, our sports podcasters ask: is that really the reason? The venue holds 5,000 people, and only 1,500 people were expected to attend. Of that, a small handful of anti-Israel protesters—in the realm of a dozen people—said they bought tickets with the explicit intention of disrupting the event. Team Israel has significant security resources, and has said nothing that indicates they were worried for their players' safety. So was this really a security concern, or is Tennis Canada more concerned with a clean product for television and to encourage the opportunity of hosting international events in the future? Was this a political move, or simply a bureaucratic one? The hosts dig into all this, plus what happened with Israeli teams in European cycling and soccer. Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka claimed the trophies at The US Open, and former Top-5 player Jimmy Arias joins the podcast to explain how the major champions achieved their dreams in New York. Arias dives into Alcaraz's serving success, how he's improved his consistency and why he is the only person on the planet that is giving Jannik Sinner serious problems. The broadcaster also reacts to Sinner's comments about needing to adapt, and gives his take on what Novak Djokovic and the rest of the ATP can do to challenge for grand slam titles. Arias also discusses how Sabalenka has turned her serve into a weapon when it mattered the most, and why she continues to conquer the mental side of tennis as she collects major trophies. The commentator dives into Amanda Anisimova's career resurgence, Jessica Pegula's stellar performance at Flushing Meadows, and how Coco Gauff can overcome her own service issues and remain an elite WTA player. And Arias ends the show by telling a Davis Cup story from his playing days that is too insane to believe! Hosted by Mitch Michals.
