I know what you're thinking: "not another TV/Movie review podcast". Well, it is that, but hopefully with a little different perspective on things. We aren't experts, or people spending weeks to get every detail from every source there is. We are just two friends talking about the shows and movies we like, and giving our two thoughts for a penny.
That's right season one of Two Thoughts for a Penny is over. The podcast will be back in two to three weeks for the start of season two, and it might look a little different than it did before, but we are pretty sure you are going to love it! See you next season!
It's your chance, yes your chance, to get up and dance at the Space Jam! Will and Miranda are talking about the 1996 film that changed everybody's lives forever. In so many ways: socially, sexually, economically, and geographically. Michael Jordan and his band of Looney Tunes, NBA super stars and Bill Murray take on evil Danny DeVito and the Monstars to save Buggs and the crew from slavery. Yeah that really is the elevator pitch for this buck wild movie. I hope you are ready for a nostalgic deep dive into this insane concept for a film. Oh yeah....also Miranda is back!
I hope you are strapped into whatever weird couch, chair, bed, or apparatus you listen to this podcast in because it is about to get wild. The big green monster himself has made his way onto Two Thoughts for a Penny. Oh but not in the way you are thinking, no no no; he is real and on stage. Not only is our giant green savior of our world real he can also sing better than any human alive. If you thought it stopped there then you are not ready for this...everybody is revel in this piece of art. That's right Donkey, Fiona, Farquad, and all of the fairytale creatures are singing their asses off in this banger of a musical. Will and Crystina are talking about the famed Shrek the Musical!
Are you ready for an epic adventure through time and space? We must collect our partner-turned-crook while making sure the bus doesn't go under 55 mph. Then we must escape the matrix and destroy our evil robot overlords and reclaim the earth with the help of Cyber Jesus and his crew of misfits. That's right some Russian butthead kid stole our 69 mustang and killed our tiny puppy; so it is time to kill more people then have ever been killed in a single movie! This week Will and special guest Maggie talk about the action pack classic John Wick. Prepare for an epic show all about Keanu Reeves and his love for killing Russians.
That's right you didn't ask for it so we are giving it to you. Will and Skylar are talking about their favorite movie as a couple. The Kelly McDonald and David Tennent rom-com we all know and love: The Decoy Bride. It's like a movie....it is a movie! Everybody who has already seen this movie found that hilarious, I promise. In this movie you get an English woman playing an American, a Scottish man playing an Englishman, and a Scottish woman actually playing...a Scottish woman. What more could you possibly ask for? It is a movie that makes you smile even if you can't entirely understand half of the characters in the film (seriously -- first time viewers should have subtitles on). Enjoy our first and hopefully not last special guest episode!
Have you ever been afraid of the water in a pool? Not like I have a fear of the water, but I'm afraid of what might be in the water. You are fully aware that it is chlorinated water and as clear as a freshly cleaned glass cup, but something deep down is still nagging you telling you that something is lurking below. Just buying its time before it strikes and takes you down to a watery grave. Well JAWS was the movie that ruined the ocean, swimming pools, and even bath tubs for a lot of people and has continued to traumatize children who just happened to stumble upon it during a late night sleep over. Miranda and Will are diving into the Steven Spielberg classic and reliving some of their very own trauma from watching and absolutely loving this classic.
Sorry, but every now and again things come up that are just out of our control. No show this week, but Will and Miranda will be back next week with Jaws!! See you then!
Alright, alright, alright, it has finally come for Will and Miranda to do a McConaughey classic! That's right, your favorite idiots are big fans of the Austin man. The professor of script to screen film production at Moody University, a man who has been arrested for playing bongos naked in his own home, the legend that bought Wild Turkey Bourbon and made it even better than it already was, and y'all, come hell or high water, the future governor of the Lone Star State. Nope we are not doing Failure to Launch, Sahara, or How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Neither will they be talking about Wolf of Wall-street, The Dallas Buyers Club, or Oil. No they are talking about one of the "greatest" adventure movies of all time, with comedy, romance, but mostly a bare chested Matthew...Fool's Gold.
Are you ready for a classic story full of mystery, dragons, martial arts and badass chicks? Are you ready to see some shit that will blow your mind? A story like you have never seen before; your mind will literally melt from the twist and turns that this plot takes. It is defiantly not just a Disney movie for children, and has a bunch of jokes the entire family will enjoy. Frozen has been bested and every child will turn in their Idina Menzel cosplay for a Raya costume. That's right Will and Miranda are talking about the latest Disney animated film that we all waited four months to watch because fuck paying $30 for a movie. They are covering Raya and the Last Dragon...enjoy. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
BBBBBBRRRRRRAAAAIIIINNNNSSSS!! That can only mean one thing, you guessed it, yup you already know what I am going to say. Those creatures of the night we all know and love. The fictional world that took the mid-2000s by storm and took over our lives, our shows, and above all our nerd stores. You got it those beast that feed on the living and need us to survive. They spread this strange immortal disease through biting and slowly turning us into them. This week Will and Miranda are jumping into the vampire genre by going over Twilight! Yup we love those shiny vampire boys. Nah, just kidding!! Seriously though, we are doing Zombieland for this weeks episode and it is eating us alive to let you know our thoughts.
Are you ready for some football!?! The time has come to see grown men smash into each other at 30mph and cause permanent damage to their bodies for our entertainment. Will and Miranda are celebrating by watching the Sandra Bullock Oscar winning film, The Blind Side. Wait...it is a football movie right? Like it has a bunch of football scenes in it and cool stunts and stuff. Oh it only has 20 minutes of football in it. Okay, well at least it is like a football movie and isn't going to make me cry right? Oh, it is a touching story about a young man finding a family and gaining the strength to better himself and become a professional football player. Cool...cool...no I'm not crying at all. Whatever! Just listen to the dumb podcast about this extremely touching and moving story.
Hello there listener, I know what you did last summer. Did that scare you at all? Okay here let's try this one. Hey have you checked on the kids upstairs? How about that one? That one definitely scared you for sure. Shit. Alright, I have one last one: turn on the porch light. That gets people every time, no matter what. Well aren't you tough shit, not getting scared by reading iconic lines from classic teen murder movies. I'm sure you know by now Will and Miranda are talking about the horror classic that revitalized the genre in the early 90's: Scream. The film where Drew Berrymore only makes it to the 12 minute mark before being brutally murdered and hung in a tree. Really a classic for the entire family to enjoy. So gather around and listen as Two Thoughts talks about Scream. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
Simon Pegg has been waiting for so long for Will and Miranda to talk about the classic buddy cop film Hot Fuzz. In this episode not only are they diving into a movie made as if M. Night Shyamalan decided he wanted to make a very British comedy; they also are trying out a new format. No more talking about the film scene by scene, now they have a conversation about each piece that goes into creating a film. Especially if that film is one of the most ridiculous cop movies that has ever been made. We love gore, we love comedy, we love dry British humor, and we love making fun of cops. Yarp, it is time for Episode 25! Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
This one goes out to all the middle aged dad's out there. Oh yeah we are finally doing a WW2 movie! That's right blood, guts, brotherhood; it is everything you want in a good old fashion war movie. Wait...it isn't a war movie? But, Rotten Tomatoes said that it was a war movie and that's it. You know like Saving Private Ryan, and I saw in the trailer that Hitler and Nazi's are in it. IT IS A COMEDY!?!? Well Miranda and Will seemed to really like it, and it was directed by Taika Waititi so it must be good. He plays Hitler too? Okay they might know what they are talking about with this one. I guess this one goes out to anybody who wants a heart warming story with some comedy and crying on the side. ANOTHER TOP 5! Hell yeah, it's time for another installment of Miranda and Will's Top 5 Movies About Something. This is the most important information that will ever be bestowed upon you. The sun has crested the horizon and we find ourselves on the precipice of summer and her harsh unloving heat. However, Will and Miranda are here to give you a quick respite from the cruel heat and unforgiving storms by talking about their top 5 summer movies. I know you must be thinking how could you possibly categorize movies into something so vague as "summer", and would that really save me from this heat stroke. In all honesty, they are not entirely sure themselves as to what a summer movie is. So come inside, turn the lights down low and listen to the latest installment of "Our Top 5". Well I have never done this before. I have never had to write a description for a part 2 before. Honestly, I'm a little nervous; I never thought that this would happen to me. Okay enough stalling I'm ready to do this. I'm gonna give my self over to it 100%. Will and Miranda talked for such a long time that we had to split this Disney classic into two parts. We just didn't think it was morally correct to subject the fans to three hours of stupidity from these two people. That being said we do feel like an hour and a half is the perfect amount of idiot talk to make your ears listen to. Thanks for showing back up and enjoy. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 2!!! Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
Disney strikes again here on TTP with a classic from 2003, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. Possibly one of the weirdest concepts for a movie ever. "Hey Mr. Disney I have been thinking about the amusement park ride we have." the producer said. Mr. Disney sat up a bit tall and spoke " You mean It's a Small World?" "No...." the producer said in confusion. "Oh then you must mean my favorite ride ever the Tower of Terror!" Mr. Disney said with a whimsical glint in his eye. "No sir, I am talking about Pirates of the Caribbean" the producer said in a stern but gentle voice. "I want to turn that ride into one of the most successful movie franchises to ever grace cinema!" "Oh...okay...I mean I think Tomorrow Land would be better, but whatever you want." Here is $140,000,000 have fun!" Thus one of the greatest pirate movies of all time was born and brought into this world. Cosplay, Time Square, and Hollywood Boulevard would forever be changed by the insane character that was created by Johnny Depp. Miranda and Will had so much fun in fact, that this is only part one of a two part series on Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. WOOHOO we made it episode 20! Holy crap we actually did this thing to week 20. You know what they say, if you make it to episode 20 then you will stay around for episode 800. Im sure somebody has said that...at some point. Anywho Will and Miranda are back onto the RomCom scene with the most successful romantic comedy to date, Crazy Rich Asians. Yes I know what you are thinking; "great I get to listen to two white people talk about a movie that is an all Asian cast talking about the culture of Singapore and Asian Americans". Well you're not wrong that is what happens, but I promise they try their best to not sound super white (they are so white). This movie is just too good to pass up on talking about so here we go! They really do try their best...I promise. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
Hey we were just calling to see if you would like to join us out in Arizona for our spring training episode. No this isn't a joke...no this isn't the Yankees either. Miranda and Will are sliding into another late 80's classic and their first sports movie Major League. A baseball comedy that was truly made for baseball fans, and Will's favorite baseball movie (even if it is about the Indians and not the Cubs). So gather up all your hats for bats and listen to America's new pastime, movie podcast! You don't think it will replace baseball? Only time will tell, maybe we are aiming just a little TOO HIGH.
BA DUM TCH...BA DUM TCH...BA DUM BA DA DUM !!! Did that come through the text what I was going for there? Could you tell it was the James Bond theme? I mean it is cool if you didn't, I didn't try really hard to come up with a good opening bit or anything. Oh well, Miranda and Will are setting off with 007 in this original James Bond story. He may be getting old but he is definitely still the suave, sexy spy we all know and love. Tell us what you think on our socials. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
We have come back around to another top 5 favorites of Miranda and Will's. So who better to talk about than the great and all powerful Tom Hanks. A man who is iconic for so many roles, it was almost impossible to narrow it down to just five each. He truly is a force to be reckoned with, and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we cower in fear from his acting powers and strength that rivals even the gods themselves. Do not despair he comes to all of us in peace to bring drama, comedy, and love to the masses. We all bow down and love you...oh great Tom Hanks. Tell us what you think on our socials. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
It is time for Will and Miranda to take a look at something a little more classic, a little more mature, a little more Shakespearian. That's right your two favorite idiots are watching the Taming of the Things I Hate About You. Wait I mean 10 Things I Hate About the Shrew. I MEAN 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU! A 90s classic based on Shakespeare's play The Taming of the Shrew, and filled to the brim with the 1990's finest selection of actors including the beloved Heath Ledger. We hope you don't protest too much to us making bad jokes in this ridiculous episode.
Join your hosts on an island adventure as they travel to Hawaii in the new Netflix original film Finding Ohana. Will thinks that it is like Lilo and Stitch meets The Goonies, and he hit the Goonies right on the head. A Nickelodeon-like retelling of the 80's classic that we all know and love, even though it doesn't give us a truffle shuffle we do relearn that "Ohana means family".
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!...By your two favorite idiots who are breaking down Ridley Scott's Gladiator? Miranda and Will take a deep dive into this very historically accurate movie that won six academy awards; okay maybe not so accurate. Even with all of the inaccuracies and buckets of snot running out of Russel Crow's face we still think of this movie as one of the greats. Tell us what you think on our socials. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
Unfortunately due to the awful no good very bad weather in Texas where we are based out of we will not have an episode this week. However, we will be back next week with Gladiator and it will be our first episode recoded on the Podtrack that we recently acquired. Stay safe and we can't wait to be back on track. Finally we are doing something on TV series! Will says it at the top of every show and yet here we are eleven episodes in and not a single pod casted about TV. Well here it is, our top five Netflix original series. We are going to try and make a top five at least once a month from here until the end of the year. 2021 is already wild and we are just trying to make a little consistency in our chaotic lives. Enjoy our first two thoughts on our favorite shows you can still stream today.
This week Will and Miranda talk about the classic Disney American adventure National Treasure! A guilty pleasure for both of them and surely everybody, this seemed like the perfect movie to watch and talk about this month. It is not short on fun, wit, or historical and modern inaccuracies; which our hosts point out from the start to the finish. Through all of that, this movie is still a fun and wild ride that everybody would gladly stop and watch whenever it showed up on cable or your weird extended family put it on for the kids to watch. Even though it is a little less impressive now that Ben Gates was able to steal the Declaration of Independence. Facebook: Two Thoughts For A Penny Podcast Instagram: Two Thoughts Podcast Twitter: Two Thoughts Pod
In this week's action packed adventure, Will and Miranda are taking another trip back into the 1980s with Wonder Woman 84. The two hosts have mixed feelings about this much anticipated film that rounded out 2020. Though they love Diana Prince and Gal Gadot's performance, some scenes fell short of their expectations. That being said, they were both shocked by the villainous performances of Kristen Wigg and Pedro Pascal. Even though there wasn't a single Rick-roll in this film, Will and Miranda promise never to let you down when it comes to giving their two thoughts.
Miranda and Will are taking a closer look at the sci-fi survival thriller The Martian staring Matt Damon. The movie was directed by Ridley Scott and adapted from the novel by Andy Weir. Miranda battles with her phobia of space travel as Will explains the hard science behind the adventure in this movie. An instant classic in Will's mind and a beautiful film from start to finish, listen as our heroes solve one problem at a time just like Mark Watney himself. Even though they couldn't sing along to this new version Will and Miranda enjoyed this new Kung Fu style movie. Join in and we'll make a whatever gender you decide or don't decide out of you.
