Auch der deutsche Schauspieler Ralf Möller war mit von der Partie. Nun gibt es Gladiator 2, welcher 16 Jahre später spielt. Die Brüder Geta und Caracas halten Rom in strenger Hand und überziehen das Reich mit Tyrannei. Der römische Tribun Acacius wird daher mit der Eroberung der letzten freien Stadt in Numidien beauftragt. Bei dieser Schlacht wird auch Hanno gefangen genommen, der wie alle anderen Überlebenden als Sklaven nach Rom verschleppt werden. Wird die Fortsetzung dem Original gerecht? Movie #2 for the "MONTH OF CHAOS" is an obscure one from Charlie. Denzel Washington and Russel Crow play an exciting cat and mouse game in a movie that desperately wants to be Demolition Man / T2 but without the charm.  None of us hated this film but it did leave us a little wanting; wanting it to end that is. That's not fair because the film wasn't bad but rather it dealt us an endless Lord of the Rings multiple ending montage. It's a soft recommend from all of us especially if you're nostalgic for 90s dodgy CG attempts.

I Braddock sono iralndesi e la presenza della Chiesa, nei panni di un prete così appassionato di boxe da organizzare una preghiera comunitaria in occasione dell'incontro più importante, con tanto di radio per la cronaca in diretta, è discreta ma reale. Il rifiuto di Jim di unirsi alla preghiera serale cui lo invita sua moglie Mae ci fa capire più di ogni altra cosa quanto poco manchi perché anche lui si arrenda a un destino spietato che non riesce più ad affrontare. Eppure anche in questi momenti Jim non perde lo sguardo pieno d'amore sui suoi, che si tratti di cedere la sua colazione alla bambina più piccola o di far restituire un salame rubato al macellaio. Pochi film come questo hanno saputo descrivere la bellezza di un rapporto educativo e di quanto può significare lo sguardo di un padre e di una madre sui propri figli.

I grew up loving the film “gladiator” with Russel Crow and Joaquin Phoenix. And probably since the beginning of film, gladiators were an integral part of the display of ancient Rome. Take the figure of Spartacus for example; probably his first appearance on the screens was in an Italian silent movie from 1913, then came the masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick in 1960 or the more recent, the tv-series “Spartacus, Blood and Sand”. One mutual element these films have, are brutal displays of duels and dramatic deaths of gladiators in the arena. In the last episode we focused on how one became a gladiator and what their diet actually was. Now, let's focus on the gritty stuff, the chances of surviving an encounter in the arena, injuries and finally, actual causes of death! Additionally, I tried to find out if there is also evidence for female gladiators.
