You can text us here!25 years ago, Gladiator was released and became an iconic film almost immediately. What many people may not realise is that Commodus, the son of the Emperor, who was Russel Crow's nemesis, was actually a real historical figure, whose acts of violence and depravity actually had to be toned down for Hollywood. We, of course, are quite happy to talk about him.Support the showwww.strangestuffpodcast.comwww.patreon/strangestuffpodcast#strangestuffpodcast - InstagramStrange Stuff Podcast - YouTubeWe source our material from various web resources, and claim no credit for any original research, as we are too damn lazy/busy to actually carry it out. Movie #2 for the "MONTH OF CHAOS" is an obscure one from Charlie. Denzel Washington and Russel Crow play an exciting cat and mouse game in a movie that desperately wants to be Demolition Man / T2 but without the charm.  None of us hated this film but it did leave us a little wanting; wanting it to end that is. That's not fair because the film wasn't bad but rather it dealt us an endless Lord of the Rings multiple ending montage. It's a soft recommend from all of us especially if you're nostalgic for 90s dodgy CG attempts.

I grew up loving the film “gladiator” with Russel Crow and Joaquin Phoenix. And probably since the beginning of film, gladiators were an integral part of the display of ancient Rome. Take the figure of Spartacus for example; probably his first appearance on the screens was in an Italian silent movie from 1913, then came the masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick in 1960 or the more recent, the tv-series “Spartacus, Blood and Sand”. One mutual element these films have, are brutal displays of duels and dramatic deaths of gladiators in the arena. In the last episode we focused on how one became a gladiator and what their diet actually was. Now, let's focus on the gritty stuff, the chances of surviving an encounter in the arena, injuries and finally, actual causes of death! Additionally, I tried to find out if there is also evidence for female gladiators. In order to investigate these questions, we turn to the gladiator graveyard in ancient Ephesus and continue our conversation with the researcher, who analyzed these excavated skeletons Dr. Fabian Kanz. VidareRead More

On June 19th, 2015 America and Great Britain celebrated the 800th birthday of the Magna Carta. This small piece of paper represents one of the two greatest documents westerns have, yet most know nothing about it.  We can tell you about Robin Hood, Russel Crow and Kevin Costner versions, but we cannot tell you where the backdrop of this fictional story came from. But, without it, we do not the Bill of rights or our Constitution.  We simply would not have the United States of America. Long, long ago, students were taught the principles of liberty in the school houses and homes, but that has long since passed away. While Common Core promises to equip today's children to be able to work in the 21st century, it does nothing to prepare them to live and operate as a free individual in a republic. Bring your family around and join returning guest, KrisAnn Hall, as we discuss the significance of the Magna Carta. KrisAnne Hall is  an attorney and former prosecutor who travels the country teaching the Constitution and the history that gave us our founding documents. She is the host of The KrisAnne Hall Show, she pulls no punches, puts Liberty First and gives no quarter to those who hide behind party labels. Like no other can, KrisAnne teachers tell what the founders had to say on today's relevant issues. KrisAnne is a disabled Army veteran, a Russian linguist, a mother, a pastor's wife and a patriot. She received her undergraduate degree in Bio-Chemistry from Blackburn College in 1991 and her J.D. from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. KrisAnne lives in North Florida with her husband JC and their adopted son Colton.
