Resources for you and your kids and teens:GraceOC.com/Kids CollectiveYouth.comOn Tuesday, Pastor Jarrod’s letter about reopening: https://mailchi.mp/dcc03df93cf6/when-is-grace-re-opening?e=efd8b13000If you’re like me and are really interested in hearing about a date about when we’ll reopen, Pastor Jarrod said it well in his letter to the congregation, that with the moving target that is the government's guidelines and dates, it is not helpful for us to put a date on things ourselves. If you’re wondering what to do about the reopening information:1. Lead together. There are people who will be excited for us to reopen and people who are bothered that we are even talking about it. Let us meet them where they are at, and love them. These are moments of leadership that will be remembered. See this document that came with Pastor Jarrod’s letter: https://mcusercontent.com/7fa5b06e71d41388fec80380e/files/8dc4195d-035b-4875-a3f8-7fe4e2c75e64/church_update_GCC_regathering_JJ_linkDoc_051920.pdf2. Pray. Please pray with us for wisdom and courage as we move forward as a church. We’re going to start a series here on the podcast: ⚔️The Way of the Sword⚔️ It's about how Scripture influences the way we lead. In Hebrews and Ephesians, the Bible is called the sword of the Spirit, ’sharper than any two-edged sword'.
A devotional from the great and powerful, Marie B:How to Get Out of a Funk According to Psalm 131, a Psalm of ascent by David.#1: Choose to humble yourself.Psalm 131:1a: “My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty.” Getting out of a funk is heart work and heart work always starts with a posture of surrender. How can we do this? Empty ourselves and humble ourselves before God. Ask HIM to help you.#2: Choose to let go.Psalm 131:1b “I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful me.” Let go of things we cannot control, i.e.: the pandemic, people getting sick, the economy, etc... What can we do? We cannot control these things, but we can control how we react and how we love others in spite of what’s going on around us. #3: Choose to be content.Psalm 131:2, “But I have calmed and quieted myself; I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.”Choose to calm and quiet our minds, and do not allow negative thoughts to run wild in our heads. How do we do this? Spend time with God, be STILL before Him, and find contentment in Him.4. Choose to tell others.Psalm 131:3, “Israel put your hope in the LORD both now and forever more.”When we encourage others, when we share the love of Christ, and when we share the hope that can be found in Christ, we are more often than not encouraged ourselves. How can we do this? Live out the second Greatest Commandment: love your neighbor, and the Great Commission: Go and make disciples.

Vision Crissy Schock in with us this week!Value 4: Love the hillRunners often dread hills along their route and most view them as a place to slow down. But a healthy, well-trained runner sees the hill as an opportunity to pass people and actually take ground. We want our team to function in this way. We should expect all kinds of challenges and opposition as we strive to accomplish our God-given mission. When those times come, we will choose to have a mindset that is motivated by challenge rather than dismayed by it.Key words: grit, resilience, resourcefulnessIsaiah 26:1-4 We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation.2 Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter.3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!4 Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.Philippians 4:6-7 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.”
Vision Laurie Jones, our Volunteer Connector, is with us this week!Three main areas to focus on Development of our volunteers: 1. Skilled in Key Areas of Life: Parenting, marriage, finances, maintaining physical and mental health, and so on2. Skilled in Key Ministry Areas: Knowing their gifts and talents, developing their ability to use them effectively for God3. Skilled in leadership: Equipping and giving the experience to lead others in life and ministry Why do we do this? Ephesians 4:11-13 “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. How do we do this?* Stay plugged in and aware! * Make sure your team is well trained for their volunteer role and help them see beyond the “task” of the role to the ministry being accomplished through the role. * Observe and talk with your team to discern their gifts, talents, and passions and help them find ways to use those in ministry. * Help your team take small steps of leadership like praying publicly, leading a team sharing time, welcoming and guiding new team members, take over scheduling, etc. When we delegate tasks, we are growing leaders and sharing the blessing of serving! * Encourage those who are developing leaders to join Leadership Pathway!* Always be looking for and developing someone who can replace you as the next leader of the team! By being intentional in the DEVELOPMENT of our teams, our teams will grow, new leaders will be developed, and we will be on Mission to Achieve our Vision of making more fully devoted followers of Christ! Important InformationBaptisms coming up on January 26 during services. Please inform your team and invite them to get baptized if they haven't already!Sign-up for the blood drive at the info center! Men’s group 7 PM on Wednesdays Personal Note“the most basic act of wisdom is repentance.”
Vision The VIP Update is back! Marie B - Volunteer Data Coordinator Growth: taking steps towards spiritual growth.WHY? We aren’t meant to be stagnant in our faith. Hebrews 5:11-6:1 Warning Against Apostasy (mandate for spiritual growth). WHAT is spiritual growth? It is spiritual maturity. MATURITY in the world: decrease dependence on parent, increase independence to be healthy adults.SPIRITUAL MATURITY: increase dependence on God- our Heavenly Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit, decrease independence on ME John 3:30: He must become greater, I must become less.More CHRIST: Closer, more intimate walk with Christ; surrender and obedience to the Lordship of Christ (living life so that it is more and more aligned with God’s Word), working for Christ’s Great Commission Mission (let’s go and make disciples) HOW do we “Spur one another on toward love and good deeds?”1. People won’t care about what you know until they know that you care about them. Be in touch with your people. Be sensitive to what is going on in their lives. EASY WAY: when reaching out to your team re: schedule, updates, etc… : always end with “please let me know how I can be praying for you”2. Keep up the awesome work of making sure team members are attending worship service. 3. Encourage team to be in the Word:- Share scripture that you have been meditating, or that spoke to you recently.- Forward devotionals you have read.- Get in the Word as a team. Great resource: YouVersion’s Bible App allows you to virtually do a plan with other people.4. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”A disciples proper place is at the feet of Jesus.Be still and recalibrate your heart. Beware of spiritual drift.
