Hello...thanks for listening! This is a long one y'all. This is a re-release as it was originally my second podcast episode. I was so new at podcasting that I thought to cut it in half but I was 'on a roll' at that point so I just kept talking and decided to leave it. The good thing about podcasts is that you can listen whenever you want and for how long you want. ;-) I hope you enjoy this episode! Elizabeth ------------------ This will be the 'Summer of Self-Awareness' / SoSA for my podcast listeners (those who are interested in this that is!), and I'll be ending the Summer with a series of interviews and an Audio (Podcast) Summit in the Fall (with several speakers and experts) titled "Work How YOU Are". Because we're all individuals and what works best for one of us doesn't mean that it will work best for all of us. Can I get an Amen? I got the idea for this Audio (Podcast) Summit after purchasing many, many courses and digital products just to find out in the end and many several dollars later that the most of these programs did *not work for me. ....Because I am an introvert, and a highly sensitive person and an empath, a Manifesting-Generator in Human Design and most recently, that I have an ADHD brain (!) One speaker will talk about 'Shiny Object' and why it's not a "bad" thing, One speaker will talk about Human Design, And another on Myers-Briggs, and many more! Wanna know more and be the first to know when everything drops?! Join my email list! https://www.westelizabeth.com/vip-list-signup One of my fave quotes by Maya Angelou is "When you know better, you do better". I was always drained and exhausted for most of my life...I was a caretaker for many years (fourteen) and I never got a chance to do as one of my friends Mika said 'Self-Discovery' until the pandemic in the Fall of 2020. Wow, right?! I WISH I knew all of these traits about myself...I certainly would have 'done better' in taking self-care and in recharging which has created a sense of calm, relief and dare I say happiness in my life that I never have had before. :) Show Notes and Mentions: Racheal Cook's website: https://www.theceocollective.com ^^^ As Racheal Cook says on her podcast 'Promote Yourself to CEO', "We have to protect our asset = US!" and "Without 'us' there is no business!". At the height of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, the Association for Psychological Science joined countless other organizations around the world in turning to podcasts to share findings and conversations. The result is Under the Cortex, which now celebrates 100 episodes in which psychological scientists help us understand some of their most interesting and impactful new research. This special episode is a bit of a greatest hits compilation, featuring clips from six of our favorite episodes to date. Dan McAdams provides a skeptical deep dive on the Myers Briggs test. Mary Frances O'Connor discusses what happens in the grieving brain. APS's Charles Blue and Ludmila Nunes debunk some common myths of psychological science. Nathan Cheek explores some of the unintended negative consequences of restricting freedoms. Eiko Fried makes the case against the tendency to oversimplify mental health diagnoses. And Andrew Devendorf examines the bias within the research community against "me-search.” You can hear the rest of these interviews by clicking on the links above. And subscribe to all episodes of Under the Cortex by visiting your favorite podcast app or the APS podcast page at psychologicalscience.org.

Cheers! Ps: Screw Flanders!
How useful is Myers Briggs personality test? 2m people each year take the Myers Briggs test, usually as part of a team exercise. Do Myers Briggs really tell you anything useful? The personality test will be useful for some and a lot less useful for others depending on your own self-awareness. A bit on Myers Briggs explained – the test has been around from the 1940's, uses 90+ forces questions to give you a Myers Briggs personality type – one of 16 personality types. Each of the Myers Briggs types has associated characteristics. In my view, the output is too high level to be very useful for personal development. It is still useful. Personality tests are a form of feedback. Most feedback is useful. The personality types are not that useful in themselves. The most useful is understanding how strong your preference pairs are. Using Myers Briggs type indicator test with your team helps you understand each individual person's preferences. You also can see how balanced or not your team is, and what the mix of preference is. All can be useful in getting to know your team quicker and helping you adapt your management style to best suit your team and the individuals in your team. If you are asking “What's my personality type?”, Myers Briggs will give you an indication through this test specific lenses. Towards the end, I explain a bit about each of the Myers Briggs preference pairs which gives you the four letter label you often hear people quoting. Knowing how strong each of your preference pairs are will give you some insights into your preferences (or reconfirm what you are already aware of). I think that Myers Briggs and other personality tests are useful to surface preferences and characteristics of yourself or your team that you were not fully aware of. This brings them into your conscious thought, which helps you adjust your communication and management style to best suit your audience. I hope you get some insights from taking Myers Briggs. How does a former Navy pilot work toward a 100-year goal of No More War? By believing in the pure goodness and unlimited potential of others – and empowering others to believe in themselves. Meet Jennifer Campbell. Jenn and I first met through a mutual connection and we bonded immediately over our need to call bullshit and our desire to serve a mission bigger than our lifetime. She's been through fires of combat, entrepreneurship, the very premature birth of her child, and divorce, but by using the Greek virtue of Arete, she guides herself and others toward living to one's fullest potential. Hear how taking a Myers Briggs test during her time in the Navy helped Jenn recognize that she could lead from her heart more successfully than when leading from her head. We discuss the importance of passion to wake up leadership in self – no matter when it arises. And Jen shares a deeply personal – and powerful – story about how trying and failing means she's still in the fight. Corporations, universities, and individuals have tried to find some magic formula to understand personalities and what characteristics and skills someone brings to the table. Over the years and across the globe, people have used handwriting analysis, phrenology—reading the bumps on the head—and even Ivy League diplomas to ascertain if someone has leadership potential or is an ideal team player. Perhaps the best known personality test is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This episode takes a deep dive into the skeptical side of this topic with Dan McAdams, a professor of psychology at Northwestern University.

Along the way, we explore why the 'Big 5' uses extraversion, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism as the umbrella terms that all other traits fall under. We chat about why most modern personality researchers abandoned the Myers-Briggs Test long ago. We also talk about the role of both evolution and environment in shaping the diversity of human personality and why there are pros and cons to rating higher or lower on a given trait. You'll not only get to learn a lot more about who we are, but we hope you will find it illuminating in better understanding yourself as well. Ep. 3.6 | Personality Assessments, Dreams and Other Stuff You have likely heard of the DISC Personality Assessment, The Myers Briggs Test, The Enneagram Personality Test, The Five Love Languages and so so many more. You may have taken some (or all) of these personality tests as a part of a corporate mandated team building or a personal quest to take inventory of your strengths and opportunities. Regardless the reason, I think we can all agree that the more we know about our own personalities, the better off we are...right up until we aren't. Yes, these tests can facilitate reflection, growth, adaptation and evolution in ourselves as well as prepare us to better manage our interpersonal and professional communications and relationships. There can; however, be pitfalls that we need to be keenly aware of as we delve into the in recesses of our personality. Thankfully my guest this week is well equipped to educate us on the many benefits and potential draw backs to personality assessments. Jorge is a Personal Development and Leadership Coach, Trainer, and Speaker that leverages a no nonsense approach to personal responsibility to help business owners and entrepreneurs breakthrough and create extraordinary results. As a John Maxwell Certified Coach and DISC Certified Consultant he uses his unique style and techniques to support his clients through their journey from six to seven figures and beyond That is just the tip of this week's proverbial iceberg. Jorge also reminds us the importance of dreaming (not sleeping dreams but rather the dreaming we used to do back when we were kids) and how embracing and validating them allow us to Live a Life by Design. Finally, he shares with us a tactical exercise we can do that will IMMEDIATELY shift our perspective and energy to a more positive and productive place. Myers-Briggs Test - The Story Behind the 16 Personalities (Plus Q&A) Did you know? Two women, Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers are credited with creating the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, the most popular personality test in the world. More than two million people take the MBTI every year. With Angela Atkinson You can take the test yourself at 16 personalities dot com. It is used in 26 countries to assess employees, students, soldiers, and even potential marriage partners. It is used by Fortune 500 companies and universities, in self-improvement seminars and wellness retreats. Katharine was born in 1875, Isabel was born in 1897. When Katharine died in 1968, the MBTI test was nearly forgotten. But Isabel had codified the method of testing and categorizing personalities and copyrighted in 1943. In 1968, a third woman, Mary McCaulley, discovered the test and teamed up with Isabel, helping to make the test a more "professional operation." By 1980, when Isabel passed, the test's popularity was just taking off. While it has now become a 2-billion dollar industry, the women were not in it for the money - they actually believe they had discovered a way to help people be happier and also a way to make working more efficient (by putting people in positions that worked for them). The basic theory behind the MBTI is that there are 16 kinds of people in the world, but that each personality type reduces to a set of elements taken from four either/or binaries. Everyone is either extroverted or introverted, sensing (meaning relying on sense data) or intuitive, thinking or feeling, judging or perceiving. Your “score” on the test is the combination of the 4 characteristics indicated by your answers to the 93 questions While it is widely used in organizations and HR departments around the world, the MBTI is also promoted as a means of self-discovery, and that is undoubtedly why it is so widely used today - and it is the purpose of our discussion today. I test as ENFP-A, which is considered the "Campaigner." Use code DAYINTHELIFE to get 25% off your first purchase with Blush! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kali Rogers of Blush Online Life Coaching was one of my first business BFFs and now good friend and client.Kali’s story of how she started her business is so inspiring to me and I love her witty personality and generous demeanor. She’s helped me have a lot of business breakthroughs and I feel so fortunate to call her a friend. In addition to chatting about how she started Blush, we of course chat about a typical day in her life. She doesn’t stick to the traditional entrepreneur mindset of getting up at 5 am, which is a refreshing revelation as many people assume to run a successful business you have to be a morning person.Excited for you to tune in and hope you enjoy! In today’s episode, you'll find out: Why she's not a morning person and why she gave up coffee for good. How Blush came to be and how she pitched herself to a big company (and failed). We describe and discuss a useful metacognition tool: The Myers Briggs Test which is based on Carl Jung’s ideas about 4 Functions. Jung’s functions are based on Input and Output, Information and Decision. How do you gather intel and how do you make your decisions. Fact-based and reasoning, e.g., or intuition and feeling? Use the tests for inspiration on beginning your introspective journey. Use the tests for realizing what others might see in you. Use the tests for checking if what you are thinking is the same thing as others are seeing in you. Here are some of the things you’ll learn in this episode: The biggest takeaway is to know the 4 functions and start thinking about them. The 4 functions are: ● Sensing / Intuition | Are you organizing info (making sense of something), or are you "distant", somewhere else, daydreaming, dwelling in the subconscious? ● Introversion/ Extraversion | Do you want to be alone or with friends now? ● Thinking / Feeling | Are you questioning why things are this and that way, analyzing what it can lead to -- or is your mind quiet, you're in the moment, kind of grounded? ● Perceiving / Judging | Are you open-minded and ready to see something new, or are you close-minded and just want to affirm/strengthen what you know? In this episode of Art Made Easy I’m diving down the rabbit hole of personality tests. Don't know if you are a fan, but I've been literally obsessed with the Myers-Briggs test since I listen to The Mind Your Business podcast a few months ago. Here's what I learned; by knowing what makes you tick, you can learn how to become a better teacher, engage in activities that bring you more joy and be around people who compliment you. You may not be overly familiar with personality test, but trust me, knowing the reasons why you do what you do really helps with making decisions—big and small. This episode is for anyone who is interested in being happier at work, choosing activities that energize you and learning how to manage your personal relationships. It’s also a lot of fun figuring out who you really are! IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: - How knowing what makes you “tick” can actually make you a better teacher - How just being good at something doesn’t mean you should build a career from it - That my strength was a single verb, “Create”, which has guided everything I do from my blog to my lessons - What the four categories of the Myers-Briggs Personality Test are - Where we get our energy from is the key to determining if we are an introvert or extrovert - How you have to throw out your preconceived ideas of what people are based on their occupation - How people with opposite personality traits can make a relationship work - Why understanding other peoples’ personality types can make it easier to work with them LISTEN TO THE SHOW SHOW NOTES: The Mind Your Business Podcast, with James Wedmore and Phoebe Mroczek (if you are a creative entrepreneur and haven't listened to this podcast, you need to check it out. Life on Fire TV (Audio) – Online Business Coaching With Nick Unsworth
Hey hey! Welcome to episode 151 of Life on Fire TV. Today Dr. Matt Hubbard, my personal friend and fellow entrepreneur is here to recap and share our experience at Wizard Academy. No we didn’t run off to a Harry Potter camp for a week! Don’t let the name fool you, Wizard Academy is a space for innovation, creation and growth. It’s a place where some of the top entrepreneurs in the world come together to learn, grow and expand every aspect of their lives. Dr. Matt was there with me, along with about 30 of the best and brightest entrepreneurs from all walks of life. We had our minds blown time after time. From Myers-Briggs tests to drinking wine before 10am to learning about portals, Wizard Academy showed us some of the keys to serving others more fully. In this episode you’ll hear: The important role environment plays in fostering innovation. (8:00) What is the most popular and most legitimate personality test? (10:50) What is The Diamond and what can you learn from it? (19:50) What is Principle 13 and why does it matter? (22:20) There are 40 ways to look at a problem and only 40: true or false? (23:30) And so much more! One of the days we were there was spent learning about the Myers-Briggs test. We took the test, got our results and then learned about the various types of people. This is one of the few legitimate personality tests out there. With our results in hand we did various exercises to see the personality types in action, and how we can interact with people no matter how different or similar they are to us. Knowing your type helps you better understand who you are, and also helps you understand others, so you can create better relationships with the people in every part of your life. Roy Williams, the wizard of ads, joined us and again, blew our minds. One of the most pivotal lessons he taught us was a piece of copy he wrote that connected with all the personality types. He is the absolute king, and it was masterful. Dr. Matt shares that example today. Dr. Matt also raises another important lesson we learned: the importance of going to conferences and events outside of your industry. When you go to a conference, weekend seminar or other type of experience in your industry you get to network and connect of course, but you’re also talking with people who probably have the same types of problems you have. To bring some innovation and creativity to solving your problems get out to other events, interact with people who don’t do what you do and you’ll find new perspectives and experiences that may help you rethink your situation in a new way. You may find an unexpected solution you wouldn’t have found inside your industry. On this show we also talk about the 40 Triz Principles (and why hardly anyone knows what they are), as well as how Henry Ford revolutionized automobiles and why that matters to you today. So grab a pen (or 3!), get ready for some notes and enjoy this episode of Life on Fire TV. Through the Myers Briggs Test, I have learned about my personality type and have received feedback/comparison on world's most famous leaders. I also recently read Simon Sinek's book - Start With Why.
