The Book of Nehemiah tells the story of the Israelites rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. But before we get to the action, we see Nehemiah's heart and his relationship with God through his prayer. He's a man who knows how to talk to a king, but more importantly, he knows how to talk to God. His prayer is a model for us, showing us how to approach God with reverence, humility, and a deep understanding of our need for Him. As we examine Nehemiah's prayer, we see that it's not just a list of requests, but a conversation with God: He starts by giving God glory, acknowledging His greatness and power. He then brings himself lower, recognizing his own sin and the sin of his people. He reminds God of His promises and asks for mercy, not just for himself, but for his people. He brings his request to God His prayer follows the same pattern as other prayers in Scripture, including many of the Psalms and the Our Father prayer. Join us as we delve into the Book of Nehemiah and discover how we can make our prayers more biblical and powerful. I AM Beautiful Wild Free: A Guided Affirmation and Meditation Podcast
[Season 7, Episode 106] In this faith-building and empowering episode of the I AM Beautiful Wild Free Podcast, we declare with confidence: I AM Assured and Confident.
Today, we discuss the topic of God's approachability. Christians are called to be peaceful, not argumentative or volatile. The story Esau, who sold his birthright for a bowl of stew, illustrating the dangers of instant gratification. God's people were commanded not to touch the mountain - yet everyone's innate desire is to touch the mountain. God is approachable, but we must approach Him in the right way. There's only ONE way we can do it. This is the last episode of the Book of Ezra, focusing on the issue of Israelites marrying pagan women. Israel was in direct disobedience to God's command. Pagan wives were leading the Israelites away from Yahweh. A critique of Ezra's "solution" to the problem - divorce and abandonment Jenn argues that the real solution was for men to teach their children about Yahweh and love their wives, as Paul advises in Ephesians 5. God's discipline is not something to be despised, but rather something to be understood and appreciated. God's discipline can be a catalyst for growth and transformation. God's discipline is not meant to be enjoyable in the moment, but it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. The importance of approaching trials with a spirit of prayer and support. If you're struggling through a difficult time or wondering why God seems to be absent, this episode offers a fresh perspective on the discipline of God and how it can be a source of strength and hope. Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, North Gower is taking 2026 to read through and preach through the Bible using the "One Story That Leads To Jesus" Bible reading plan (created by "The Bible Project"). To this end, Pastor Nate and Pastor Dan are recording their usual "sermon prep" conversation as a podcast so you can get a bird's eye view of the process, and perhaps grow in your own understanding and faith. This conversation is rough and unfinished, and not everything we talk about will make its way into the final teaching. But it hopefully gives you some additional food for thought. If a book promises to give you the heart of God while quietly replacing His words with someone else's, that's not a translation. It's a trap. And the trap has a paper trail.ABOUT THIS EPISODE:The Passion Translation has been endorsed by some of the most influential voices in the charismatic world. Bill Johnson called it the best thing to happen to Bible translation in his lifetime. It's been sold in Bethel's bookstore, read in prayer rooms, and handed to new believers across the movement.David Fish and JonMark Baker of the Minor Prophets Podcast spent weeks comparing the Passion Translation, line by line, against its claimed sources. What they found isn't a matter of interpretation. It's documented.Where Brian Simmons departs from the Greek text, and claims an "Aramaic" source, the renderings don't match the Peshitta, the actual Syriac New Testament. They match the Mirror Bible, The Message, and other fringe paraphrases. Fish found over 300 instances in Paul's epistles alone. Simmons also claimed co-translator credentials on a Kuna New Testament. Ethnos 360, the mission that ran the project, says he was NEVER a Bible translator. The organization's own personnel said so on record. The second half of this episode goes deeper: into Simmons' theology. In his own words, in multiple recordings, he redefines the second coming of Christ as an unveiling of a glorified end-times people rather than a bodily return. He calls the physical second coming "not in the Bible." He says, directly: "Christ is no longer a person. He is now a body, a corporate expression." That's not a slip. That's a system, and it has a name: Manifested Sons of God theology has a long history in the fringe of the charismatic world, and Brian Simmons is teaching it from the platform the movement handed him.Join us to hear the evidence for yourself as fellow continuationists examine the paper trail.0:00 – Introduction3:55 – Plagiarism Discovery Explained5:53 – Examples of Copied Verses8:16 – Why Simmons Changed Text12:07 – Lessening Judgment: John 1513:29 – Is Simmons a Universalist?16:46 – Simmons' Fabricated Credentials18:44 – Ethnos360 Exposes Simmons20:01 – Manifested Sons Theology37:21 – "I Know When Jesus Returns"57:58 – "I Am My Lover" Clip1:06:35 – "Christ Is No Longer A Person"1:14:26 – Closing ThoughtsRESOURCES MENTIONED:- The Minor Prophets/Mike Winger episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9--owgBjtA- Andrew Chapman's Research: https://theriveroflife.com/category/the-passion-anti-translation/- Mike Winger's Research on The Passion Translation: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ3iRMLYFlHuv-ISp_iIw1WL8zaEm86L8 and https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ3iRMLYFlHvXha4rjCj1Po0WLQc_jGGW- Handbook on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament — G.K. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: What if the reactions you’ve judged yourself for—your hypervigilance, emotional numbness, sudden panic, or exhaustion—aren’t signs of spiritual weakness or personal failure, but evidence of a brain that has been doing everything it can to keep you alive? Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions, especially within faith communities. Today on Your Hope-Filled Perspective, we are going to gently untangle what PTSD truly is, what it is not, and how God meets us not just in the trauma itself—but in the long, tender aftermath that follows. Today, in honor of PTSD Awareness Month, we’re going to talk about Understanding PTSD: What It Is, What It Isn’t, and How God Meets Us in the Aftermath of Trauma. Quotables from the episode: PTSD is not a failure of faith. It is the result of a nervous system that adapted to survive overwhelming circumstances." Your trauma responses are not moral failures. They are survival responses. The body remembers what the mind would rather forget. The same brain that learned to protect you can also learn safety again. God does not rush the healing He Himself designed to unfold gently. God is not disappointed by your symptoms. He is present in your healing. Scripture never teaches that faith erases biology. Your faith resides in your heart and mind, but trauma often lives in the body. And God cares about both. Healing from PTSD does not mean erasing your story. It means integrating it. Your trauma may have changed you, but it does not disqualify you. This episode of The Bible Explained delves into the concept of the "cloud of witnesses" in Hebrews 12:1-3. Who are the cloud of witnesses, and what are they witnessing? Is praying to the saints biblical? Why we look to Jesus as the ultimate example of faith and perseverance The episode also touches on the theme of perseverance, using the example of Jesus' endurance on the cross as a model for Christians facing difficulties. Jenn encourages listeners to look to the Bible for stories of those who have persevered through faith, such as the people in the Old Testament and Jesus Himself, for encouragement through trials. Ezra learns of a great sin that the leaders are doing only a few months after he arrives in Israel: The Levites, priests, and elders have intermarried into pagan families Was God against "interracial" marriage? What Deuteronomy 7 tells us about sin 99% of Christians don't view sin strongly enough Ezra's prayer is a powerful expression of his people's guilt and shame. He recognizes that God's grace has been shown to Israel, allowing them to escape and revive. One of the greatest privileges we have as spouses is coming before the Father and lifting up our marriage—leaning on Him for protection, provision, and strength. Today, special guests Brad and Heidi Mitchell join Dr. Kim to talk about how foundational prayer is for intimacy and the overall climate of your marriage. Many couples struggle to develop this rhythm—not because they don't want to, but because they simply don't know where to start. Be encouraged today as Brad and Heidi share from their newest book, Build Your Marriage With Prayer, and talk about how guided prayers, daily readings, and reflection questions can help couples grow a consistent and meaningful prayer life together. Episode Highlights: Husbands don't have to know it all to lead- they can be simply willing to initiate. Wives can come alongside and encourage their husbands to step into the role God created them for. Don't weaponize prayer against your spouse. Quotes from this Episode: Kim Kimberling Quotes: "The first time Nancy and I really started praying for something together and saw God show up, it was like, 'This is awesome.'" "Prayer bonds us together in a way nothing else really can." "Most guys feel inadequate spiritually, but prayer was never about performing." "You don't have to know more than your spouse to lead spiritually—you just have to initiate." "When couples begin praying together, they stop fighting against each other and start fighting for each other." "Inviting God into conflict changes conflict from something destructive into something that can grow your marriage." "The more we pray, the more prayer becomes part of the fabric of who we are." "God wants to be involved in the middle of our everyday lives—not just the big emergencies." "When you pray over your spouse, it creates empathy, connection, and unity." "Prayer gives God a chance to show up in your marriage over and over again." Brad Mitchell Quotes: "A lot of men don't pray with their wives because they're afraid of looking inadequate." "Men don't need to be spiritual experts—they just need to become spiritual initiators." "The things you most want to lean away from are often the very places God wants you to lean in." "When you pray about the issue instead of against each other, nobody wins or loses—God wins." "The enemy whispers, 'You're not good at this,' because he knows how powerful prayer is in marriage." "Every wife would love for her husband to stop and pray over her before the day begins." "Surrendering your schedule to God changes interruptions from frustrations into opportunities." "Prayer protects your marriage because it keeps both of you surrendered to God instead of fighting each other." Heidi Mitchell Quotes: "Make prayer a positive experience for your spouse, not a performance." "There's really no wrong way to come before God together." "Encouragement from a wife can completely change a husband's confidence in leading spiritually." "If prayer becomes weaponized, couples will stop wanting to pray together." "Not every thought deserves a place to stay in your mind." "Ask yourself: Does this thought line up with who God says my spouse is?" "Praying together helped us move from surface-level faith into authentic dependence on God." "When my husband prays for me, I feel protected, cared for, and truly seen." "The spiritual connection we share through prayer has become one of the greatest strengths in our marriage." Time to Talk About it: What would it look like for us to make prayer feel more natural and encouraging in our relationship instead of pressured or performative? Is there an area of our marriage right now where we've been "fighting each other" instead of "fighting for each other," and how could prayer help shift that? This is the final portion of Hebrews eleven, exploring the faith of several individuals from the Old Testament, including Rahab, Samson, Gideon, and David. These stories serve as a testament to the power of faith in the face of adversity, and the speaker highlights Faith led to the walls of Jericho tumbling down. Faith led to surviving through fire and escaping death by sword. Faith led to shutting lion's mouths and conquering nations. Faith is not just about believing but acting on that belief, even in the face of danger or persecution. Since we understand the mystery of the Messiah, Christians today have even more reason to act in faith than the people of the Old Testament Jenn encourages listeners to take action and live out their faith and not stay silent when it comes to sharing the Gospel with others. Before Ezra and his companions start on their long journey to Israel, problems already arise that need ironed out: No Levites decided to make the journey, so Ezra needs to find some willing Levites to change their minds Ezra felt ashamed to ask the king for assistance from the Persian army, so he orders a 3-day long fast to ask for protection from God Ezra immediately gives the Priests and Levites temple duties before setting out This chapter highlights the importance of faith and obedience, noting that Ezra and the Israelites trusted in God's power to protect them on their journey. It also emphasizes the significance of listening to God's call, citing the example of the Levites who initially refused to join the journey but eventually answered God's call and were blessed. Lastly, this episode concludes with a discussion on the importance of treating offerings to God with respect and reverence. Jenn notes that any offering given to God is considered holy and should be treated as such. Marriage was never promised to be easy, light, or always enjoyable—but when both spouses are committed wholeheartedly, it can endure even the hardest seasons. In this episode, Dr. Kim unpacks the foundational truths that help build a healthy, lasting marriage: honest communication, emotional safety, gratitude, faith, and learning how to work through conflict instead of avoiding it. He also shares what it looks like to start fresh without carrying the weight of past mistakes and why the struggles couples face—especially in the early years—don't mean something is wrong. Whether you're newly married or decades in, this episode offers practical encouragement to help you strengthen your relationship and build a marriage grounded in a foundation that lasts. Episode Highlights: "Becoming" is a process and it doesn't happen at the altar. The decisions that shape a marriage most aren't the big dramatic ones. Keep having fun together, year after year. If this is your second marriage- things don't have to be the same! Quotes from this episode: When faith is at the center of your marriage it changes the source of your security. You're no longer looking to your spouse to provide what only God can provide. The first year is not the best year- and that's ok. The friction you feel is not a sign that something is wrong. It's a sign that you are doing the real work of two becoming one. Avoiding the conversation doesn't make the problem disappear. The conversations you tend to avoid are the ones that can make or break a marriage. Your spouse is not a mind reader and neither are you. Communication is not a failure of love. It's an expression of it. The cultural model asks "what am I getting out of this?" The biblical model asks "what am I bringing to this?" Avoidance builds walls. Couples who pray together, seek wisdom together, and bring God into the center or their disagreements have a resource that other couples just don't have. Your spouse should feel like they can be honest with you without being punished for it. If they feel like they have to manage your reactions before they can be truthful, you've built a marriage where honesty is not safe. Life administration isn't connection. Gratitude is a muscle and in marriage it needs regular exercise. Time to talk about it? What do we expect from each other sexually? Are we spiritually moving in the same direction? How was conflict handled in your home growing up? Have we let anything go unaddressed? Are we protecting our time together? Mentioned in this Episode: Awesome Marriage is on Instagram! Jenn delves into the concept of faith, exploring its difference from belief and/or obedience. The discussion centers around the Hall of Faith in Hebrews chapter eleven, where the author of Hebrews highlights various individuals who demonstrated remarkable faith in God's promises: What is the difference between faith and belief? Why it's crucial to have faith, not just belief One can have belief, but not have faith; one can have obedience, but not have belief The stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and others, examining their faith actions and how they demonstrated obedience to God's commands. Moses considered the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt. How did Moses identify with the "reproach of Christ" if Jesus wasn't even born yet? We have a choice: be like the Hebrews, or be like the Egyptians The episode ends with a call to action to reflect on your own faith, asking if you are willing to take the step of obedience, even when it's difficult or uncomfortable. #jesus #bible #biblia #godswill #JesusChrist #miracle Do we sometimes overlook God's miracles, even when they are right in front of us? Often, we focus so much on trying to make things work with our own strength that we fail to acknowledge what God has done in our lives. Join Ric and Mary of Bible Study Company and learn about the many blessings we have in Christ.
In this episode, Jenn delves into the concept of faith, exploring what it means to have faith in God and how it's demonstrated in the lives of biblical figures like Abel, Enoch, and Abraham: The definition of faith - the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. The lives of these biblical characters, who, through their faith, experienced incredible outcomes, such as Abel's continued influence despite his death and Enoch's rapture into heaven. The importance of obedience in conjunction with faith Faith is not just about believing in God, but also about trusting in His promises and obeying His commands. Many people claim to have faith, but lack obedience, just like the demons who believe in God but don't have a true faith. We're encouraged to reflect on our own lives and consider how we can be more obedient to God's will. If you're interested in learning more about the connection between faith and obedience, and how it's demonstrated in the lives of biblical figures, tune in to this episode to hear the speaker's insightful discussion. In this episode of the Bible Explained podcast, Jenn delves into the story of Ezra and the rebuilding of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. Despite facing opposition from neighboring nations and even some of the Persian kings, the Israelites remained committed to their faith and worked tirelessly to complete the temple. Some key points in today's episode: The importance of the temple's completion, highlighting the role of prophets like Haggai and Zechariah, who encouraged the people to continue building. The temple's construction was not just a physical accomplishment, but a spiritual one, as it represented the Israelites' desire to reconnect with their God and rebuild their community. When God gives the people joy and puts a new heart in the king, does that imply that people have no free will? The theme of God's sovereignty and providence, as He guides the Israelites through the challenges they faced. The lives of key figures like Ezra, a skilled scribe and high priest, and Nehemiah, a cupbearer who later became the governor of Jerusalem. In a culture that constantly redefines truth, how do you build a marriage that actually stands firm? Dr. Kim sits down with Aaron and Amy Graham to talk about choosing faith over culture and why most marriages don't fall apart overnight—they slowly drift as outside voices shape what we believe about love, identity, and purpose. The Grahams challenge couples to examine those influences, guard their identity, and remember that marriage was designed for more than just their own happiness. This conversation is a powerful reminder that your spouse isn't meant to meet every need—and that intimacy with God is the foundation for a thriving marriage. Episode highlights: Drifting is a slow process. If we are to live a life that goes against culture, we must know truth and live by it. Marriage has a greater mission than just your happiness. Quotes from this Episode: The Grahams: If the church doesn't disciple people, the world gladly will. What does it look like to stand firm in a marriage? It's to not give the devil a foothold. Sometimes we don't realize how we have subtly imported a secular worldview into every area of our life. The enemy doesn't want to just tempt us to sin. He wants to reshape our identity and distort our worship. God has designed us for intimacy and that starts in our marriage relationship. We have to go into our marriage understanding that our spouse isn't going to solve all of our loneliness. We have to have relationship with God. The secular lie is that we determine what truth is: my feelings, my version of the truth. Marriage sometimes can become an idol for people when they don't have a bigger mission than just marriage. Because your marriage can become self centered- what the main mission- it's not just your happiness. Dr. Kim: So much of our faith is knowing that this God who created everything loves us conditionally in a culture where nobody loves us unconditionally- sometimes that's hard to get a hold of. Selfishness is something we have to be aware of our whole marriage because we can fall into that trap. God is never going to do anything in you that is not good for your marriage. Time to talk about it: Are there ideas we need to deconstruct in our marriage? What voices are we allowing to speak into our marriage? Do they align with the Truth? What disciplines do we need to implement to show that our marriage is a priority and to honor the union that God has brought together? Mentioned in This Episode: Connect with Aaron and Amy Graham. **Hebrews 10: A Call to Action** In this episode, Jenn delves into the difficult topic of Hebrews 10, where Christians are reminded that actions have consequences, and that God is a God of justice: The concept of willful sinning - how it leads to a "fearful expectation of judgment" and a "fierceness of fire" that will devour those who refuse to obey God. Jenn shares personal anecdotes and biblical examples to illustrate the importance of living a life that honors God, and encourages listeners to take an inventory of their own lives and seek God's guidance. The importance of being bold and living a life that reflects our faith. A powerful prayer from Psalm 139 that can help us seek God's guidance and direction. If you're looking for a fresh perspective on what it means to be a Christian, and how to live a life that honors God, this episode is a must-listen. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: If you’ve ever felt ambushed by intrusive thoughts, unwanted mental spirals, or the kind of anxious loops that hijack your peace, you’re not alone—and you’re not powerless. In this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective, we’re diving into the intersection of biblical truth and brain science, exploring how God designed your mind, why intrusive thoughts show up, and how to interrupt them with evidence-based strategies and Scripture-anchored truth. Whether you struggle with anxiety, guilt, catastrophizing, or “what-if” thinking, you’ll learn practical, hope-filled tools to renew your mind, reclaim your thought life, and experience the calm your soul has been craving. In honor of mental health awareness month, today we’re going to talk about How to Manage Intrusive Thoughts Through Biblical Truth & Brain Science. Quotables from the episode: You are not at the mercy of your mind. A thought is not a fact. A thought is not a sin. A thought is not your identity. A thought is not your destiny. The amygdala can’t tell the difference between a genuine threat, a hypothetical threat, or a lie masquerading as danger. Romans 12:2 isn’t metaphor, it’s biology: ‘Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.’ You can’t control the first thought, but you can control the next one. Intrusive thoughts thrive in internal chaos; they shrink in stillness. This is just a thought, not a truth, and not a command. You cannot ‘stop thinking’ your way out of intrusive thoughts; you must redirect them. When the body calms down, the amygdala shuts off, and intrusive thoughts lose their volume. You are not losing your mind. You are learning to renew it. Scripture References: Romans 12:2 “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 “Take every thought captive.” Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on things above.” Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” Philippians 4:8 “Whatever is true… think about such things.” Romans 8:6 “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace” Psalm 46:1 “God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Romans 8:1 “There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you.” 1 John 4:18 “Perfect love casts out fear.” Matthew 6:34 “Do not worry about tomorrow.” Philippians 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion.” Recommended Resources: Free Stress-Response Personality Assessment Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner AWSA 2024 Golden Scroll Christian Living Book of the Year and the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Christian Living and Non-Fiction categories YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises from God to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, AWSA Member of the Year, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Devotional category, the 2023 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day version 1 YouVersion Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day version 2 Revive & Thrive Women’s Online Conference Revive & Thrive Summit 2 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 1 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 2 Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2020 Best Christian Living Book First Place, the first place winner for the Best Christian Living Book, the 2020 Carolina Christian Writer’s Conference Contest winner for nonfiction, and winner of the 2021 Christian Literary Award’s Reader’s Choice Award in all four categories for which it was nominated (Non-Fiction Victorious Living, Christian Living Day By Day, Inspirational Breaking Free and Testimonial Justified by Grace categories.) Have you ever gotten to the point in your marriage where your spouse felt more like the enemy than the person you committed to stand by in sickness and in health? What used to feel easy now feels tense. Conversations turn into misunderstandings. Small things feel big. Or maybe it's not conflict, it's distance. You're living side by side, but feeling miles apart. Somewhere along the way, everything started to feel… personal. And today, we're talking about why that happens, and how to change it. Episode Highights: It's not you vs. your spouse. It's you both vs the pattern. Your thought life shapes your marriage Healing and gratitude change everything. Quotes from Today's Episode: One moment doesn't define your marriage.- Mrs. Nancy The more I'm grateful for who Nancy is in my life, it's so much easier to say "no, I'm not talking this personal." People get ticked off for so many easy things nowadays and it's easy to get sucked into that. We don't want to look at ourselves. If I can blame Nancy then I can stay with that and not have to blame myself. God had to work on me. Our negative thinking can take over so much of the time. That negative thought process- and I have to go back to Romans 12: 2. Renewing our mind. That's the key.- Mrs. Nancy If there are old wounds, we have to take care of those. Time to Talk About it: Do you feel like I do things just to upset you? If so, how can we resolve this? List out 5 things you are grateful for about your spouse. Share them with one another.
