Church must be different than the world: The importance of not showing partiality among Christians. No Christian is above another, regardless of their social status or wealth. James's example of a wealthy person and a poor person entering a meeting place highlights how we often show favor to the wealthy. God chooses those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom. Wealth can corrupt individuals and make them prioritize material possessions over their faith. In contrast, the poor often have a richness of faith that comes from relying on God for their needs. This episode stresses that showing partiality is not only unloving but also encourages disunity in the church, forming cliques and making others feel like outsiders. Emotional dysregulation is normal.  Our brains respond to threat, not fairness. Pain cycles drive repeated conflict. Growth and redemption matter more than blame. Lasting happiness in marriage comes from authenticity, not performance or pretending everything is okay. Every single one of us gets thrown off-balance emotionally. The brain can't tell the difference between a rattlesnake, a near-miss in traffic, or your spouse's criticism. Threat is threat. Our brains are wired for survival, not perfect communication. Ignoring your pain doesn't make it go away—if anything, it makes your pain stronger, more insistent, and harder to escape. It's easy to point out the flaw in someone else, but it's vital to focus on your own growth. You may not forget your pain, but you can redeem what it does in your life. Choosing redemption over resentment is liberating. Today, we are sharing a new lesson God has been teaching us about living in light of the Great Commission as God's people. God has increased our desire to really LIVE in light of eternity and to be willing to change maybe old habits and comfortable routines to line up with what we see in the New Testament.  So, we are looking at the Scriptures and asking the question- what was normal life like for the early church? What characterized their lives?  In this episode, we highlight one important theme that we have found. Listen to these 9 Scriptures and see what theme emerges: 9 examples in the book of Acts: Acts 2:46: “day by day, attending the temple and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts.”  Acts 2:47: “praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 5:42: “And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.” Acts 6:1: “Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution.”  Acts 16:5: “So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they increased in numbers daily.” Acts 17:11: “…they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” Acts 17:17: “So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there.” Acts 19:9: “…he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrranus.” Acts 20:31: “Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears.” In the New Testament church, there was: Daily outreach (proclamation, reasoning with others) Daily time in the Word (teaching, examining) Daily fellowship (breaking bread in homes) Daily ministry (distribution for the widows) Daily increase A few ideas for your own action steps: 1- Every morning surrender your day to God and ask for opportunities to share the gospel and serve and encourage others. 2- Pray for the lost daily. In this episode, the Israelites are rapidly rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Sanballot, Tobiah, and Gesham, try to intimidate Nehemiah into stopping the project: They send Nehemiah letters, claiming that he's planning to rebel against the king and become the ruler of Judah. People who are doing good for God usually face opposition and false accusations. Nehemiah's discernment and faith are put to the test when a prophet named Shemaiah tries to convince him to go into the temple for safety. The wall is completed in just 52 days - how excavation has proven that the wall was built very quickly. The episode touches on the theme of false prophets and the importance of testing their claims. Jenn reminds listeners to be cautious of people who claim to have prophecies or messages from God, and to do their due diligence in verifying their claims. In this episode, Jenn discusses Nehemiah chapter five, where the Israelites are facing internal problems that hinder the rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall: The mistreatment of the poor by the wealthy and powerful in Jerusalem, who are charging exorbitant interest rates and selling their fellow Jews into bondage. This is a clear violation of the Old Testament laws, which prohibit charging interest to fellow Jews and selling them into slavery. The divide in Jerusalem - a major concern given the city's already precarious situation. Nehemiah takes action by calling a meeting with the nobles and rulers and urging them to stop charging interest and selling their fellow Jews into slavery. The nobles agree to stop charging interest and restore the people's fields, vineyards, and homes.
