Baptisms is such a special gift that we as believers get to take part in and also get to do for others. In fact, Jesus himself got baptized and commissioned us to not only get baptized but to baptize others. But the reality is that many delay this or don't understand it. So today I want to break down a few of the misconceptions about baptisms, things that hold us back from getting baptized & share a few powerful testimonies from the baptisms we got to talk part in this weekend as we got to baptize 26 people who said yes and amen to Jesus!WorshipBaptizeConnect With MeInstagram Website

Baptism is a profound act of faith that represents a transformation in a believer's life. It serves as a public confession of faith in Jesus Christ, an act of obedience to His commands, and connects us spiritually to Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. Additionally, baptism functions as a spiritual marker that believers can look back on during times of doubt or temptation. Just as Jesus Himself was baptized to fulfill righteousness, Christians are called to follow His example, making baptism not merely a symbolic ritual but a powerful declaration of commitment to Christ and a new way of life. At the end, we have 6 Baptisms as well.
Stuart continues our series in Colossians with a passage from chapter 1, discussing Jesus' identity as God and why this means He should be number one in our lives. Stuart then leads us towards the baptism portion of the morning with an explanation of baptism and it's significance for Christians. The testimonies and baptisms themselves will soon be viewable by those involved and Church members. Our 'Colossians: Christ in You' series will be going through Paul's letter to the church in Colossae, a letter sent whilst he was in prison. Paul wrote this letter to encourage them and also address the issues that Epaphras, their leader, had raised and to challenge them to a greater devotion to Jesus. Throughout this series we will learn about the difference that Christ makes living in you, the hope of glory (1:27). What makes communion and baptism so important? This week in our series Becoming – Living the Way of Jesus with the People of God, Pastor CJ Ward explains the meaning of sacraments and why they matter for our faith. Scripture: Joshua 4:1–7 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 Romans 6:3–4 Sacraments are not magic—they are sacred because they remind us that something happened. Jesus' death and resurrection have changed everything. Communion and baptism are memorials that point us back to that reality: Communion reminds us of Christ's body and blood given for us. Baptism is our public declaration that our old life is gone and we now belong to Jesus. Sacraments both comfort us when we feel unworthy and challenge us to obedience. Above all, they remind us that because of Jesus, everything is different now. Subscribe for more messages from New Life Gillette Church and join us as we continue becoming who God created us to be. As we continue our Thailand25 series, many of you will remember Rey from Hong Kong and how God used him to see movement among Filipina maids. In this episode, Rey continues to share the journey of seeing movement in and from Hong Kong. In July 2022, Rey pioneered Discovery Obedience Bible Studies (DOBS) in Hong Kong parks with Pilipino maids. What began as one small step of faith has now grown into multiplying disciple-making communities (DMCs) in Hong Kong, Macau, the Philippines, and even Japan. Rey's obedience to the Holy Spirit has opened the door to multiplication down to third and fourth generations of disciples. His passion is clear: “We are not in the business of making believers but disciples.” You'll be encouraged as Rey explains how God is using simple obedience, a clear disciple-making vision, and a commitment to multiplication to bring transformation from Hong Kong to the nations. Highlights from Rey's Journey Early Exposure to Movements Since 2016, Rey was exposed to disciple-making movements through experiences in Israel, India, and Myanmar, which grew into a deep passion and became the focus of his Master's thesis in Hong Kong. From Pastor to Movement Pioneer His church in Hong Kong adopted DMM principles—but only as a growth strategy, not a true disciple-making movement. The spark eventually faded. 2022: Rey resigned from traditional church ministry, rejecting offers from large churches. During quarantine, while fasting and praying, God's answer surprised him: not to join another church, but to start doing DMM himself. July 2, 2022: Rey launched the first DOBS group in a Hong Kong park. Multiplication Across Nations Hong Kong: Now 110 active disciples. 3 DMCs (up to 4th generation). 201 baptisms over the last three years—monthly beach baptisms with new believers. 20 women in training to become “DMM pastors,” preparing to return to the Philippines. Macau: 1 group, 8 active disciples, 3 disciple-makers. Philippines: Communities in the north, central, and the Muslim south (Mindanao). Over 100 active disciples in multiple generations. Japan (Yokosuka, near Tokyo): Filipina women reaching out to bar owners and families. Baptisms and new groups forming into a multiplying community. Disciple-Making Process Rey uses DOBS (Discovery Obedience Bible Studies): Discover, Obey, Bible, Share. He has developed different levels of scripture sets: Seekers – discovering Jesus. Disciples – going deeper. Leaders – training for multiplication. Vision & Tools Rey always gives the vision upfront: everyone is called to be a disciple-maker. He even draws people a simple path: Seeker → Believer → Disciple → Disciple-Maker → Leader. Anchors everything in key Scriptures: Matthew 28:18-20 (Great Commission), Matthew 22:36-39 (Great Commandment), Acts 1:8 (Need for Holy Spirit to be witnesses) and 2 Timothy 2:2 (Multiplication of disciples). DBS format follows the 4Ws: Worship Watch (share stresses) Word (Head, Heart, Hands) Work (commitments & sharing). Why Listen? Rey's story is one of courage, obedience, and multiplication. From humble beginnings in a park in Hong Kong to movements multiplying in the Philippines and Japan, Rey's testimony challenges us to rethink church, embrace disciple-making, and trust God's Spirit to lead.
The word "baptism" is a Greek word (from "bapto") that indicates a dipping into. It is used in four ways in the New Testament: the baptism of John the Baptist, the baptism of Christ's suffering, the baptism of believers, and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. John's baptism unto repentance and confession represented a bridge between the old way of the Law and the prophets and the new way of the Gospel. Jesus instructs his followers to make disciples, baptizing them and then continuing to teach them. The pattern in the New Testament is the hearing of the Gospel followed by baptism. Let’s be honest… when you hear the word “baptism,” you probably think of white robes or tearful testimonies. You probably don’t think of baptism as protest. But the truth is; baptisms were never meant to be about performance or perfect. In this sermon, Pastor Nicole flips the script and dives deep (pun intended) into the […] The post Heroes // Baptisms appeared first on Refuge.Church.
This week on The 167 Podcast, we celebrate an unforgettable Sunday—nineteen people stepped into the waters of baptism, each declaring the same life-changing truth: “I'm all in with Jesus.” From fresh starts and answered prayers to generational impact and childlike faith, their stories remind us that Jesus still saves, still heals, and still makes all things new. As a church, we've also begun 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Week 1 centers on expectancy—living with the awareness that the Spirit of God is already present, leading, and speaking in our everyday lives. Baptism declares, “I belong to Jesus.” Prayer and fasting declare, “I'm ready, Spirit. Move in me.”
May is the month of Mary. In this week's episode we visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to learn about the history of the month of Mary and popular Marian devotions, such as praying the rosary. The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles' Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel's words announcing Christ's birth and Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. St. Pius V officially added the second part of the Hail Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ's life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and––added by Saint John Paul II in 2002––the Luminous. Learn more about how to pray rosary. https://www.usccb.org/how-to-pray-the-rosary May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In this week's episode we highlight a story out of the Diocese of Tulsa which reflects the diversity and richness of our faith! Fr. Samuel Perez, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Miami, Oklahoma celebrates mass every weekend in Chuukese for local Micronesian Catholics in addition to five other masses in English and Spanish. People in the pews wear brightly colored traditional clothing and hairstyles. One Micronesian family from southwest Missouri makes the almost two-hour drive to hear Scriptures, prayers and songs in Chuukese. Adding a weekly Mass in Chuukese has improved not just Mass attendance but religious education enrollment at Sacred Heart, from 30 students to 120. Baptisms are up too: Father Perez's calendar in May had 11 baptisms for members of the Micronesian community. Farming jobs attracted many of Oklahoma's Micronesian natives from the island of Chuuk in the South Pacific. For their part, the community members are grateful that Father Perez has worked to learn their language and integrate their culture into the worship experience. “It shows that he really cares,” one altar server said. Father Perez points out that he made a lot of pronunciation mistakes early on, and he's still learning. There was no textbook; he caught on by repeating words his parishioners taught him. “They were very patient with me,” he said. “My accent is thick. I don't know how much they understand me, but it looks like they're OK with it.” Father Perez wants every Catholic to feel welcome and included in their Church home. “When God calls you to be a priest, you are called to serve all people.” The Diocese of Tulsa is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary jubilee year. What do typhoon evacuations, koala selfies, and second breakfast in Hobbiton have in common? They've all been part of Deacon Bob's adventurous month. After a few weeks apart, Father Dave and Deacon Bob are back, swapping globe-trotting tales, ministry moments, and a surprisingly full slate of sports updates. Bob's recent trip took him from the typhoon-swept Philippines to Singapore, Perth, Sydney, and a bucket-list stop in New Zealand's Hobbiton (yes, complete with hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, and second breakfast). Along the way, he preached to 90 youth leaders just hours after a typhoon hit, met a koala, saw kangaroos, and even met a listener named Rain who drove five hours just to hear him speak. There were plenty of memorable meals, from perfect pancakes to less-than-crispy bacon. Meanwhile, Father Dave stayed stateside, baptizing great-nieces (one walked to her own baptism), speaking at the Knights of Columbus Conference, and making a moving visit to the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine in Oklahoma City. He shares Rother's remarkable story—from failing Latin in seminary, to obeying his bishop's call to return to Guatemala, to his martyrdom in 1981—and the beauty of a shrine built right in the heart of the city it serves. Sports fans get plenty too: the debut of MLB's first female umpire Jen Pawol (including her Hall of Fame–bound first pitch), Tom Brady's towering new statue, and even a trivia challenge about the University of Michigan making draft history. Naturally, there are detours, including CGI vs. AI, bad sports statues, and ministry moments that transcended cultural boundaries. But through it all, the heart stays the same: joyfully sharing the Gospel, wherever God sends you (even if it's to a sheep paddock in New Zealand). Highlighted Sections (00:00) Sports, Schedules, and Saying Goodbye The guys open with bittersweet news about the podcast winding down, why recording has gotten harder, and an invitation for listeners to share favorite memories. They then go into the week's light sports slate and review the new Superman. Even with the end in sight, their trademark banter is alive and well. (05:41) Football, Statues, and Sports Trivia Deacon Bob previews a Buccaneers-Steelers preseason game while Father Dave looks forward to Steelers training camp. They discuss Tom Brady's towering statue and celebrate Jen Pawol historic debut as MLB's first female umpire. The segment wraps with a trivia challenge about a university making draft history in all four major leagues. (15:44) From Typhoons to Hobbit Holes Bob recounts ministry in the Philippines, Perth, and New Zealand, including speaking to youth leaders after a typhoon and connecting with alumni abroad. He describes walking through the Shire set from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, complete with hobbit holes and the Green Dragon Inn. Jenny may not be a huge fan of the films, but even she found the tour magical. (23:42) Sydney, Koalas, and the Ends of the Earth From welcoming bishops to preaching across cultures, Bob reflects on moments when the Holy Spirit's anointing was tangible. He shares encounters with young adults, a koala, and a listener who drove five hours to hear him speak. Each stop reaffirmed the universal joy of sharing the Gospel. (25:42) Baptisms, Knights, and Blessed Stanley Rother Father Dave talks about baptizing his great-nieces and representing Franciscan University at the Knights of Columbus Conference. He shares the moving story of Blessed Stanley Rother a missionary priest martyred in Guatemala, and describes visiting the shrine dedicated to him. The witness of Rother's courage and devotion left a lasting impression. (32:37) Feast Days and a Chapel Blessing Looking ahead to the Feast of the Assumption they pray for peace amid global tensions. Father Dave previews the blessing of Franciscan University's newly renovated Christ the King Chapel, while Bob outlines upcoming speaking engagements. The conversation closes with anticipation for the start of the school year. Why Baptisms?: Continued - Baptism into the Body of Christ
The Church has taught from the beginning that there is only one baptism, namely that baptism in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit that Jesus tasked his apostles with spreading to the four corners of the earth.
