Send us a textCourtney Teasley takes us behind the curtain to expose how arrests and charges require only "probable cause" – essentially, that someone probably committed a crime. This low standard follows individuals through most of their journey until trial, but with 97% of defendants accepting plea deals before reaching that point, most convictions occur without ever meeting the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard. The consequences are devastating, particularly for what Teasley calls "DAMM communities" – Disproportionately Affected, Marginalized Minority communities. Black Americans are six times more likely to be incarcerated than their white counterparts, not because they commit more crimes, but because of targeted over-policing and systemic biases. Without financial resources to mount effective defenses, many people accept pleas simply to escape a system stacked against them. She offers concrete solutions through her MFN Framework: Mindset (adopting an "innocent until proven guilty" perspective), Finesse (creative defense strategies), and Non-negotiable boundaries (standing firmly on constitutional rights). Her work shifts the focus from reactive approaches that help people after conviction to proactive strategies that prevent convictions in the first place.Whether you're a community leader, church member, or concerned citizen, Teasley's insights will transform how you understand justice in America and offer practical ways you can contribute to meaningful change. Courtney's BioCourtney Teasley is a nationally recognized criminal defense attorney, business coach, and visionary educator, shifting the paradigm on how we fight systemic injustice. As the founder of emeffen and creator of the MFN Framework for Proactive Advocacy, Courtney leads a movement to empower disproportionately affected, marginalized minorities (D.A.M.M.) with the legal knowledge and strategy to prevent convictions—before the courtroom ever comes into view. Her impact spans grassroots campaigns, justice-focused curriculum development, and legal education for both community members and lawyers. Through her Easy Way to Learn Your Rights book series, school-based criminal justice literacy programs, and D.A.M.M. Advocate and Legal Warrior trainings, Courtney equips everyday people, educators, and defense attorneys to proactively resist the criminal justice system's most insidious traps.Whether speaking to students, churches, or national audiences, she delivers bold, accessible frameworks that challenge the status quo and offer real, community-rooted alternatives. Her work has not only influenced elections but has also helped reunite families separated by state violence and launched legal innovations tLike what you heard? That's the mental load, and most of the time, it's invisible. In this episode of Supported Wife Society, I'm breaking down:What the mental load really is (hint: it's more than chores). Why it stays hidden and keeps you in “roommate mode” with your husband.3 super practical ways to start fixing it this week.I'll share my own story of stepping into Glenn's world as a single dad, how I ended up carrying everything without even realizing it, and why invisible labor leads to resentment, exhaustion, and lost intimacy.By the end, you'll know how to: ✨ Make the mental load visible with a simple audit. ✨ Hand off one recurring task without hovering or redoing. ✨ Use the “Pause & Pass” method to create space for him to step up.Because here's the truth: you don't have to carry it all. This week's can't-miss classic is all about one of our favorite simple tools every teacher needs: a nonverbal behavior signal. Disruptions are going to happen, but instead of stopping your whole lesson to give a lecture (or raising your blood pressure), you can use a calm little 1-2-3 finger cue to redirect behavior in a low-key, non-shaming way. We'll walk you through how to teach the signal like any other procedure, practice it so students know exactly what to do, and keep it as chill and predictable as possible. With just a little front loading, this strategy becomes one of those invisible tools that makes your classroom run so much smoother!Prefer to read? If you took some time off this summer — whether it was intentional or just happened while life got busy — you're not alone. Reentry can be tough, but this episode will help you hit the ground running without burning out. Here are five fresh, feel-good ways to ease back into your business after a break. https://creativesonfirepodcast.com/episode209 1. Time Block Your Week (And Your Next Break!) One of the easiest ways to feel in control of your business again is by deciding ahead of time when you'll work. Not just the day — but the specific hours. Choose time blocks that are non-negotiable, distraction-free, and easy to stick to. Then do something fun: plan your next break! Whether it's a weekend getaway or an afternoon off, putting something on the calendar to look forward to makes a huge difference in staying motivated. 2. Change Up Your Workspace Sometimes the best way to spark new energy is to move your desk, buy a cute new candle, or even just grab a new notebook. Freshening up your space helps you mentally reset and signals your brain that it's time for a new season. Even small changes can breathe big energy into your workday. 3. Evaluate Your Plan Before You Dive In Instead of jumping into that big idea that came to you while sipping beachside margaritas, start small. Make a list of the familiar things that actually move the needle in your business and plug those into your time blocks first. Then, take that dreamy big idea and break it into baby steps you can start adding in without overwhelm. Focus on the platforms you're most excited to work on, and use that excitement as fuel. 4. Stack Your Habits (Personal + Business) James Clear calls it habit stacking — and it's brilliant. Attach a small personal goal to your work block. That could be finishing a Stanley full of water, taking a 10-minute walk before or after your session, or prepping a healthy snack so you're not tempted to graze your way through the pantry. When you combine work time with a habit that supports your life, you're more likely to show up consistently and feel good doing it. 5. Automate Everything You Can This one's a game-changer. Imagine your business running while you rest. It's possible when you automate strategically. Here are a few of my favorite ways: Facebook Fuel gives you ready-to-post content you can schedule for consistent engagement (even on days when you forget to show up). The Evergreen Email System runs Monday/Wednesday/Friday emails automatically each quarter, sharing your best content and driving traffic to your blog — without you lifting a finger. Batching + Scheduling content in advance frees up brain space and energy, especially during busy seasons. Automation isn't just about saving time. It's about creating freedom — and that vacation-mode feeling — even while you're working. Final Thoughts You don't have to come back from summer at full speed. Easing into your business with intention is how you build momentum without burnout. Use these five steps to reset your rhythm, protect your energy, and prepare for the most profitable season of the year. If this episode encouraged you, I'd be so grateful if you'd leave a 5-star review or share it with a friend. That support means the world! Until next time, Stay creative. How to Get Past Customers on Your Email List Ever looked at your customer list and thought, “Wait… half these people never even subscribed to my emails”? Yeah, that's a goldmine you're sitting on, my friend—and we're not about to let it collect dust. This week's episode was inspired by a student inside my Email Badassery program who had exactly that problem. She's got happy customers, but they never opted in for marketing emails. Now that she's building a killer set of automated flows, it's time to get those buyers officially on the list. And here's the thing—this isn't about begging or being salesy. These people already like you (they gave you money, remember?). You just need to make it ridiculously easy and tempting for them to say “yes” to your emails. In this episode, I'm breaking down four smart, strategic ways to get it done, plus some behind-the-scenes tips on popups, targeting, and even good old snail mail that'll make your competition wonder why they didn't think of it first. What You'll Learn: How to tweak your welcome popup targeting so non-subscribers actually see it The order confirmation email trick that gets more sign-ups without being spammy Why snail mail + a QR code is still a total list-building win How to run targeted Meta ads to your past buyers (and when it's not worth it) The easiest first step to get going without overwhelming yourself _______ Links Mentioned Full Show Notes https://ecommercebadassery.com/341 _______ Learn With Me Work with Me 1:1 https://ecommercebadassery.com/ecommerce-help/ https://ecommercebadassery.com/email-marketing/ Courses & Membership https://ecommercebadassery.com/membership https://ecommercebadassery.com/programs _______ Let's Connect Website: http://ecommercebadassery.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/ecommercebadassery Membership: http://ecommercebadassery.com/membership _______ Rate, Review, & Subscribe Like what you heard? In episode 142 of White Canes Connect, Lisa Bryant takes the lead to interview co-host David Goldstein and NFB of PA President Lynn Heitz about our experiences at the 2025 NFB National Convention in New Orleans. We share highlights from Pennsylvania's strong showing — 56 attendees, 10 first-timers, four national scholarship finalists, and a Jernigan Leadership graduate. Lynn and David reflect on the energy of the general sessions, memorable speeches, and some lively debates during resolutions. We also talk about the bustling — and slightly oddly laid-out — exhibit hall, where Pennsylvania sold out of chocolate-covered pretzels. From the opening ceremony's brass band and very cool Whozit beads to reconnecting with Federation friends and meeting new ones, the week was packed with learning, networking, and a few surprises — including a fire alarm that cleared the ballroom mid-vote. We also touch on standout presentations on AI, Social Security, and blindness research, plus the banquet speech from President Mark Riccobono. You'll also hear reflections from first-time attendees Denise, Clarence, and Parri, each sharing their most memorable convention moments. Whether you were there or not, this episode captures the energy, camaraderie, and purpose that make national convention such a powerful experience.
