Wrapped in Podcast: Twin Peaks Season 3
J.R. interviews Sherilyn Fenn--who discusses her view of how Audrey could have been in The Return, her view of how Audrey was in the The Return, her thoughts on the inimitable Clark Middleton (R.I.P.), and more!
The Wrapped in Podcast crew comes together to discuss Eraserhead, David Lynch's first film and possibly the Rosetta Stone for all his later work.
J.R. conducts brief field interviews with Ray Wise and Sheryl Lee.
On part two of Wrapped in Podcast's discussion of Mulholland Drive, the gang walks through 10 "clues" to the movie provided by David Lynch himself as part of the promotion of the DVD release of his landmark 2001 film. Topics discussed include J.R.'s infected hangnail, those 10 clues, and how David Lynch is the devil and responsible for the destruction of Billy Ray Cyrus's family. We at one point reference this theory from a Mulholland Drive fan site: http://www.mulholland-drive.net/theories/06.htm
If you’re listening to the latest episode of “Wrapped in Podcast”, you may have won a jitterbug contest! The full four-member complement of America’s favorite legal podcast is back in action to review the David Lynch film that one panelist’s Amazon Echo referred to as “Mulholland Doctor”. Host J.R. Parker speculates about Justin Theroux’s apparent second puberty and leads a unanimous cabal of critics who are wholly unsympathetic to current complaints concerning the lack of chapter stops on latter-day DVDs. Non-lawyer Jeff Fallis provides professorial insights into the combustion of the film’s 88-minute cut, the extraordinarily absurd oddness of dream logic, and the director’s cinematic send-off of the 20th century. First-time viewer T. Kyle King louses up the introductions by engaging in premature explication and briefly flummoxes Ken Walczak with a wildly unconventional theory. For his part, Ken hates the slapstick hit man scene, sees significance in the rictus grins of the tiny elderly pod people, and offers a thorough overview of “Gilda” and its resonance for “Mulholland Drive”. During their deep dive into Lynch’s 2001 film noir, the crew engages in a wide-ranging exchange including allusions to the age before cell phones, apex narcissism, Bikini Atoll, “Blue Velvet”, “Bye Bye Birdie”, Nancy Drew, Doctor Faustus, gigantic copper fish, “The Godfather”, “Inception”, “Jackie Brown”, karma, Elmore Leonard, “Lost”, “Lost Highway”, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”, pixellated genitalia, psychosexual foreplay, quantum physics, Paul Revere, “Riverdale”, “The Sopranos”, “Sunset Boulevard”, Melania Trump, “Twin Peaks” episodes from the European pilot to the Showtime finale, “The Usual Suspects”, and the Venn diagram of perverts and purists. Join the gang for the first hour of their examination of “Mulholland Drive”, complete with Ken’s tantalizing cliffhanger conclusion designed to whet the audience’s appetite for the second installment of Episode 26 of “Wrapped in Podcast”!
“Wrapped in Podcast” is back with Episode 25, Part Two, in which J.R. Parker, T. Kyle King, and Ken Walczak continue their explication of David Lynch’s “The Elephant Man”. Be forewarned, though, that this installment features neither Ice-T’s “Colors” nor Jeff Fallis’s moderating professorial influence. In spite of those notable absences, J.R. questions John Merrick’s choice of theatrical productions, confuses corrupt Congressmen Dan Rostenkowski and James Traficant with one another, and welcomes listeners back to America’s favorite legal podcast, while Kyle criticizes a series of scenes that are a little too on the nose, spots both Plato’s shadows on the cave wall and Audrey Horne’s clandestine surveillance of her father’s secret meetings, and sparks a doctoral dissertation on flames versus electricity in Lynch’s oeuvre. For his part, Ken disagrees with Roger Ebert, takes a swing on the gym set from “Twin Peaks: The Return”, and declares that it’s his party and he’ll cry if he wants to. Yes, it’s true that this tight 36-minute summation of “The Elephant Man” contains lawyerly allusions to bailments, interpleader, replevin, strict liability, trover, and usufructuary rights. However, like the mentions of “Batman Begins” and “Star Trek”, they appear only in passing. “Wrapped in Podcast” remains primarily a forum for discussing David Lynch, so this detailed examination of “The Elephant Man” is worth your while, if only for the revelation that Lynch makes a cameo in the film. Ken’s Beverage Corner is about property law, though, so there’s that.
Contrary to what the hosts seem to think, Episode 25 of “Wrapped in Podcast” is not actually about “The Greatest Showman”. Instead, J.R. Parker, T. Kyle King, and Ken Walczak discuss David Lynch’s first film as a professional director, “The Elephant Man”. They also speak a fair degree of legalese. Based on the life of Joseph (often mistakenly called “John”) Merrick, “The Elephant Man” was nominated for eight Academy Awards and led directly to the creation of a new Oscar category. In Part One of their review of the triumphant 1980 masterpiece Mel Brooks chose Lynch to make, the “Wrapped in Podcast” gang (minus the salutary non-lawyer influence of regular panelist Jeff Fallis) expresses amazement that the movie was even made. J.R. praises Lynch’s decision to film “The Elephant Man” in stock black and white, identifies Bytes as a precursor to BOB, and attempts (then abandons) a John Hurt impersonation. Kyle believes the word “understanding” invariably implies misunderstanding, spots the juxtaposition of natural free animal man and expendable mechanized human cogs, and thinks “The Elephant Man” in many ways seems like a movie from much later in Lynch’s career. Ken contributes biographical background on Merrick, links the film to “Freaks”, and hears what he calls “Industrial Cacophony No. 1”. In a 66-minute discussion eschewing their usual scene-by-scene treatment, the podcasters make mention of Jeffrey Beaumont, Dale Cooper, Harry Crews, Boyd Crowder, “Dune”, golf carts, the Industrial Revolution, Jack the Ripper, Hannibal Lecter, “The Lion in Winter”, maternal impression, the Minions, moral line-drawing, Jack Nance, open flames, Laura Palmer, Karl Pilkington, the Puritans, R2-D2, “Time Bandits”, Universal Studios, Victorian hospital security, voyeurism, the War Doctor, Western capitalism, worker’s compensation, and zoning. Don’t be an animal; be a human being who’s listened to the latest installment of “Wrapped in Podcast”!

Consummatum est. In Episode 19 of Wrapped in Podcast: Twin Peaks Season 3, Kyle, Ken, and Jeff all weigh in with their final thoughts about Cooper's status as a hero, or not, and what it all may have meant. J.R. drinks too much gin. Thanks for listening, everyone!
This is it! We are nearly done. In Episode 18 Part Two of WRAPPED IN PODCAST: TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3, "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" we continue to discuss Part 18 of Twin Peaks: The Return. J.R. continues to keep us informed as to how Part 18 synchronizes with Part 17 and drops Julian Jaynes apropos of almost nothing. Kyle and Ken are disagreeing and then agreeing and then disagreeing. And Jeff explores the history of the unconscious mind with Cormac McCarthy. In our next episode, our panelists will discuss the big picture now that we have finished Twin Peaks: The Return. But, this is the final recap episode! We can barely believe it and have truly enjoyed the pleasure of making this podcast for our listeners over the past several months. Take care, everybody.
In Episode 18 Part One of WRAPPED IN PODCAST: TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3, "Fleshly Pursuit," we discuss Part 18 of Twin Peaks: The Return through the scene in Judy's Coffee Shop. J.R. keeps us updated on points of uncanny synchronization between Parts 17 and 18 and uncomfortably holds forth on Thelemic Sex Magick ritual. Kyle is certain that the Black Lodge is troubled by his theory that Naido is Judy. Ken pulls out an esoteric Beverage Corner, and Jeff's mind is blown when he realizes that Charlie and the Jumping Man may be one and the same.
In Episode 17 Part Two of WRAPPED IN PODCAST: TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3, "Impossible Geometry," we continue to discuss Part 17 of Twin Peaks: The Return. J.R. Parker shockingly makes a comparison to Dune, and notes that Diane is looking a lot like Marjorie Cameron upon her arrival in the Sheriff's station. T Kyle King thinks that Naido is Judy. Ken Walczak does what may be his final beverage corner. Jeff Fallis is paying careful attention to Phillip Jeffries and rejoices at Jumping Man: The Return. Please like and review us on iTunes. Thanks!
Fire in the hole! The crew of Wrapped in Podcast: Twin Peaks Season 3 is taking its time to digest and digress in the wake of the two-part finale of “Twin Peaks: The Return”. The podcasters who podcast, then live inside the podcast, cover approximately the first half of Part 17 in Episode 17 Part 1. J.R. Parker makes it clear why his father is the podcast’s most dedicated listener, offers in-depth analysis of Mr. C.’s mullet binder clip, and describes the convergence of the two Coopers in a way that makes it sound suspiciously similar to Ken Walczak’s and my apparent regression to one another’s mean. Jeff Fallis lets everyone know how much he enjoys a good data dump, but he evidently wasn’t told there would be no math, as he runs the numbers on Agent Cooper’s note and solves the vexing riddle of the texted coordinates. For his part, Ken discloses how the show goes full meta, expresses great faith in the ironclad nature of the Showtime nondisclosure agreement executed by the series’ subtitle typists, and is vindicated regarding the amniotic BOB globule. That just leaves me to wonder which one of these is not like the others, bemoan the absence of the Nixon Library from the story’s ultimate resolution, and contend that Part 17 needed more Nadine. We’re definitely going to talk about Judy, as well as theorize about David Lynch characters appearing nude in the wild, White Lodge online dating sites, and the significant women who become important buildings. In addition, our truly Lynchian conversation featuring slow pacing and questionable relevance takes us into such ancillary areas as “Battlestar Galactica”, “Death Note”, Dragon Ball Z, Blake Edwards, Mike Hammer, the Hulk, “La Strada”, Paul McCartney, “The Mod Squad”, the Mystery Mousekatool, Nine Inch Nails, “On the Air”, the Phantom Zone, Sarajevo, Sideshow Bob, and “Time Bandits”. If you’re in the path of Hurricane Irma, batten down the hatches and settle in with a cup of coffee to give Episode 17 Part 1 a listen. In Episode 14 of WRAPPED IN PODCAST: TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3 "Mea Tulpa" J.R. cannot stop referencing the Autobiography of Special Agent Dale Cooper, Jeff wrestles with the nature of evil and is on the Tulpa beat, and Kyle argues that the Man from Another Place is a good guy, contrary to all of the evidence. Enjoy and please rate and review us on iTunes!
Where's Ken? Everywhere, and nowhere, behind every possible scheme or not, just at the bleeding edge of what can be ascertained and what is merely a memory of electricity, a waft of scorched engine oil. In Episode 13 of WRAPPED IN PODCAST: TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3, J.R. has thoughts about Swan Lake and the Flying Dutchman, Jeff has some thoughts about the Evolution of Dougie Jones, Kyle thinks that things are really coming together and the robins are starting to appear, and Ken is probably trying to kill us.

Sorry about the wait. A mysterious computer crash utterly annihilated part of the original recording of this episode, requiring a painstaking operation to reconstruct the original. In Episode 10, we are joined by special guest Connor Kilpatrick and we take a rollicking ride exploring the ins and outs of Part 10 of Twin Peaks: The Return. We offer detailed information and commentary on all topics, including without limitation Jim Belushi, The Jumping Man, Moira Kelly, Dumbland, and Billy Bob Cyrus. We also revisit the controversial question of whether or not James is cool. After the Episode, we read some interesting and informative feedback from our beloved listeners. Enjoy and please rate and review us on iTunes!
In Episode 9 of WRAPPED IN PODCAST: TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3, we discuss how all the threads are starting to come together. Kyle has a lot of thoughts about chairs and colors, Jeff shares some insights from his Summer Vacation review of The Secret History of Twin Peaks, JR associates Bill Hastings with Lost Highway, and Ken holds forth on the dismal political economy of subsidies for the liquor that Bill Hastings would like to be drinking at the beach with Ruth. N.B.: In this Episode, several members of the WRAPPED IN PODCAST team recorded on location, which had a deleterious impact on sound quality. Kyle bravely recorded from a beachfront bungalow in the Florida Keys located immediately next door to a raucous convenience store, and Jeff was teleported to a glass box where, we suspect, several mysterious recording devices may have created an unfortunate feedback effect. Enjoy, and please rate and review us on iTunes.
In a special bonus episode this week, Jeff Fallis does a close reading of "This is the water, and this is the well," the poem that The Woodsman recited several times in Part 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return. Jeff breaks down the language and verse according to the New Criticism school of literary theory, and then we violate that theory by discussing how the poem may tie into other elements within the show. Check it out!
How to discuss what is impossible to say? On Episode 8 of WRAPPED IN PODCAST, Ken is born again in cleansing atomic fire as a True Fan of Twin Peaks The Return. Jeff discusses Part 8's connections to Dougie Milford, Jack Parsons, UFOs and Thelemic Magic. JR makes unnecessary and inappropriate references to Dune. And Kyle says "Marcia, Marcia Marcia!"
SPOILER ALERT: Put down your golden shovels, everybody. WRAPPED IN PODCAST's own T. Kyle King has cracked the case. Everything makes sense now, from the misdirection of Audrey Horne's supposed rape to the identity of Bill Hasting's secretary. T. Kyle King painstakingly makes sense of out of Twin Peaks: The Return so that you don't have to! A special bridge episode between Part 7 and Part 8. Enjoy!
On Episode Seven, dedicated to #1 dad Balthazar Getty, we discuss palmistry, unearthly humming sounds, what Major Briggs has been doing for the past 25 years, and floor sweeping. Please enjoy, comment, send us messages, and rate and review us on iTunes. Thanks!

KEN'S BEVERAGE CORNER makes a brief appearance and we introduce KYLE'S CONSPIRACY CORNER, though we have always been at home with that. The fucks are at it again!
Only Nixon could go to China, and only T. Kyle King can analogize Twin Peaks to the the policies of Chairman Mao.
On Episode 3 of Wrapped in Podcast, JR, Kyle, and Ken discuss Part 3 of Twin Peaks: The Return. JR and Kyle like it, but Ken isn't so sure.
Brother T. Kyle King breaks it down.

On Episode One of WRAPPED IN PODCAST, we welcome back T. Kyle King and Ken Walczak, and introduce contributor Jeff Fallis. On this episode, we discuss Part One of Twin Peaks: The Return aka Season 3. Episode Zero of Wrapped in Podcast, in eager anticipation of Season 3 of Twin Peaks, we talk to Ken Walczak, a new contributor this week, and take a deep dive into Fire Walk With Me, and our fear and loathing anticipating Season 3, including the new and returning cast, whether Season 3 will be That Seventies Show, Twin Peaks Style, and our collective psycho-sexual predilections that may have originated in the original broadcast. NOTE: the original post of this episode had literally dozens of minutes missing, like pages ripped from a young girl's diary. We apologize for the oversight and now present Wrapped in Podcast Episode Zero in its fullness for your enjoyment.
In Episode Negative One of Wrapped in Podcast, J.R. Parker talks to T.
