The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled...was creating a movie that stands the test of time. The Usual Suspects (1995) continues to amaze audiences, even if they understand the movie. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay hit listeners with a twist they won't see coming, because it kinda doesn't make sense, while talking about the crime caper classic 'The Usual Suspects.' Andy kicks it off by telling a story about when he wound up in police custody after attending a Grateful Dead show, and similar to Benecio del Toro's infamous fart, he couldn't hold it in while standing in a police lineup. Then the fellas discuss a movie that put handicapped people on film back at least 15 years, and debate whether this movie that is noted for its labyrinthine storytelling still holds up. It features an uneven cast, but there are undeniably great turns from the likes of Gabriel Byrne, character actor Pete Postelthwaite, and Kevin Spacey's duplicitous criminal mastermind. The true star of this however is actor Christopher McQuarrie, but the guys have trouble figuring out why Spacey's Verbal Kint needed to tell lies that were structured around the postings on a police bulletin board. Much like this '90s banger, you'll be talking about — and scratching your head — well after this episode ends.

Send us a textAlright everyone, it's time for yet another theme and this time it's "Eyes Wide Open". This theme will deal with films where characters experience eye-opening moments, whether through shocking revelations or sudden enlightenment.Peeling back the eyelids first, with the shake-up of "must have a narrator" (pretty self explanatory) is The Usual Suspects, the 1995 action/drama/thriller/etc directed by Bryan Singer and starring Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri and Kevin Pollak. We follow the tale of the sole survivor of a pier shoot-out who tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police lineup.Of course in addition to our feature presentation we do a deep dive into daylight savings time, pick who would narrate our lives and Matt discusses his experience with invasive procedures.

Podcast Intro: The Portugal Corner - Episode 177 - The Usual SuspectsWelcome to The Portugal Corner! The podcast where we dive into all things Portuguese soccer—the good, the bad, and the funny! It's St. Patrick's Day, and we're celebrating with some GuinnessIn a move that caught many by surprise, Chelsea has swooped in to secure two of Portugal's brightest young stars—Quenda and Dario Essugo. The Blues locked in deals worth €50M and €20M, respectively, on delayed loans. With Chelsea's track record of acquiring young talent, we discuss what the future holds for these rising midfielders and whether this move will help or hinder their development.Portugal's squad for the Nations League playoffs is out, and we analyze Roberto Martínez's selections. Is the midfield trio of Vitinha, João Neves, and Bruno Fernandes the right call? Will these choices propel the team to victory, or do we see cracks in the foundation?Sporting CP continues their dominant form, storming past Famalicão with a convincing 3-1 victory. The match saw Fresneda break the deadlock after a stunning run from "Thicc Vic". Famalicão kept things competitive by equalizing through a penalty just before halftime, but Sporting had the last laugh. "Thicc Vic" himself converts from the spot.Returning to domestic action, Benfica faced Rio Ave and started strong with a stunning strike from Orkun Kökçü. However, despite going 2-0 up, two sloppy defensive mistakes—one notably from Tino—allowed Rio Ave back into the match. Fortunately, Aturkoglu stepped up to restore order, securing the much-needed three points.Desperate for stability, Porto reverted to a back-four system, and it paid off with a solid 2-0 victory over AVS. Rising star Rodrigo Mora opened the scoring, bringing energy back into the squad. Fábio Vieira followed up with a thunderous one-timer to double the lead. AVS didn't help their case as Ignacio Rodriguez saw red early in the second half, giving Porto the advantage for the final 45 minutes.Guimarães' European campaign ended in disappointment as Real Betis walked into Portugal and delivered a crushing 4-0 defeat. Even Antony found himself on the scoresheet. However, the team bounced back on the weekend with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Estrela Amadora, with Thomas Handel and Arcanjo providing the goals.Bruno Fernandes continues to prove his worth, delivering a hat-trick (including two penalties) and an assist as Manchester United crushed Real Sociedad 4-1 in the Europa League. He followed it up with a goal against Leicester in a 3-0 weekend win, assisted by Dalot.Jota Silva, shinea for Nottingham Forest, scoring in a vital 4-2 victory over Ipswich. Nuno Espírito Santo's Nottingham Forest locks in third place with this crucial win.PSG survived a Champions League scare, advancing past Liverpool on penalties. Vitinha and Ramos kept their cool from the spot, while Darwin Núñez's miss proved costly. On the domestic front, Nuno Mendes scored his first Ligue 1 goal of the season in Le Classique, helping PSG secure a 3-1 win over Marseille and extend their lead at the top to a staggering 19 points. We took some heat for not nominating Mendes for last week's João Wonder—our bad!Another game, another goal for CR7. Ronaldo netted his 928th career goal as Al-Nassr defeated Al-Kholood .Toronto FC's home opener didn't go as planned, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Chicago Fire. Stonk of the Week: A jaw-dropping goal from a Phoenix Rising player in the USL.João Wonder (Best Portuguese Player of the Week): Bruno Fernandes for his four-goal week, further cementing his place as one of Portugal's top midfielders. Thanks for tuning in! Trumpy Kill Switches? Veel lof, maar ook zwaar gefronste wenkbrauwen. Dondert niet: Goof & Goot gaan gewoon door! Gedreven. Dwangmatig. Obsessief & Fanatiek. Trouwens, KLM, groot? Pientere Pieters Indiase vliegclub is vijf keer (5X!) zo groot. Wist u dat? Verrassend tussendoortje: Skyraider I en II en Thunderbolt I en II. En tenslotte: is Donald Trump de man, omdat hij onze fonkelnieuwe F-35's met één knopdruk volledig OFF kan zetten? Zoals in: ERROR / NO UPDATE AVAILABLE? Gedreven. Dwangmatig. Obsessief & Fanatiek…. Luister maar.
This week we're joined by special guest Luke Gordon Field from The Beaverton (@TheBeaverton) to talk about THE USUAL SUSPECTS. Episode #317: Derek Mitchell's engagement with Myanmar began unexpectedly in the 1990s when he attended a human rights event featuring Aung San Suu Kyi. Years later, he became the first U.S. Special Representative and later Ambassador to Myanmar, playing a crucial role in shaping U.S. policy toward the country.Under the Obama administration, the U.S. reassessed its approach, transitioning from sanctions to diplomatic engagement. Mitchell was tasked with determining whether Myanmar's new government, led by Thein Sein, was genuinely committed to reform. While political prisoners were released and civil society restrictions eased, skepticism remained, especially as the military, under Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing, retained significant power.Mitchell championed an action-for-action approach, incrementally easing sanctions in response to reforms. While some criticized this as premature, he defended engagement, arguing, “We have to recognize that Myanmar is a country, not a cause.” He believed isolating Myanmar would only deepen military control while economic and political incentives could encourage democratic progress. The 2015 elections marked a milestone as Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) won by a landslide. However, ethnic minorities remained wary, and military control persisted under the 2008 Constitution. Then the Rohingya crisis of 2017 shattered hopes of democratic transition, exposing the military's unchecked power. “I realized that was a ticking time bomb, and that it could go off at any time,” Mitchell recalls. The 2021 coup confirmed his fears, revealing how fragile Myanmar's democratic reforms had been. Post-coup, Myanmar entered a period of profound instability, with mass resistance challenging military rule. Mitchell stresses that external pressure remains crucial, stating, “There should be absolute, airtight pressure, not just from the United States, but from the frontline states to this regime, to say, ‘this is unacceptable.'”
Modern Windows systems use a tightly coordinated sequence of core processes to establish secure system and user environments. DFIR investigators and incident responders must understand the interrelationships between processes such as Idle, SMSS, CSRSS, WININIT, and WINLOGON. Recognizing expected behaviors and anomalies in these steps is crucial for detecting potential system compromises. This episode demystifies the Windows 10/11 process flow and provides context for effective triage and analysis.
This week, we can't help but fall victim to la bella luna as Feb2ary Is For Lovers continues with a classic rom-com about how it's impossible not to cheat if you're Italian. It's 1987's Moonstruck, directed by Norman Jewison, written by John Patrick Shanley, and starring Cher, Nicolas Cage, Vincent Gardenia, Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aiello, Julie Bovasso and John Mahoney. The story of a young woman who accidentally falls in love with her fiancé's brother, the movie exudes charm at every turn -- so much so that this little rom-com took home three Oscars in '88, for Cher and Dukakis's performances as well as Original Screenplay for Shanley's script that is funny without being rife with straight-up jokes. There are rich characters here, beset by curses and fatal strains of bad luck, who get laughs not by mugging or ripping one-line zingers but by believing in the seriousness of their tragedies so completely. This is character-driven comedy of the highest order, grounded by the Canadian coziness that Jewison can't help but leave all over the film. Plus: J Mo's got theatrical field reports on both Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Companion. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our discussion, it is one of the more widely available films we have ever covered as Moonstruck is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime, Crave, Starz, Criterion Channel, Tubi and Hoopla at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include Abigail, The Sixth Sense, The Usual Suspects, Identity, Trap, Fargo, The Wedding Singer, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Ocean's Eleven, L.A. Story, Paint, Napoleon Dynamite, ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chiefs Clothing, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, The Fabelmans, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Bicentennial Man, Bottoms and Punch-Drunk Love. Love Month continues next week with another VHS plucked from Hayley's collection as we'll be discussing 1996's Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger, and will do our best not to get side-tracked discussing the Mission: Impossible franchise but can't promise we won't. Jerry Maguire is currently streaming north of the border on Crave, Starz and for free (with ads) on the CTV app. And of course we're closing out February with a rom-com canon selection, 10 Things I Hate About You. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

On Episode 131 of The Film ‘89 Podcast, Steve, Neil and Skye are joined by returning co-hosts, Bill Scurry and Matthias Van De Roest to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Academy Award winning crime thriller, The Usual Suspects (1995). Critically acclaimed upon its release and making a considerable worldwide box office haul on a meagre $6 million budget, it's amazing ensemble case, incredible Oscar winning script, precise editing and sharp direction would make it an endearing classic of the 1990s. Unfortunately the film doesn't get spoken about as frequently as it once did, likely due to the controversy that arose in the intervening years surrounding its director and one of its stars. But putting aside those issues and examining it purely as a work of collaborative art, The Usual Suspects remains one of the greatest crime dramas ever conceived and is a film that's endlessly rewarding and rewatchable.

With some movies, you don't want to know what you're in for. Processing the unexpected is part of the experience, whether it's a great twist (The Usual Suspects). or a jaw-dropping comedic element (Something About Mary). Other films absolutely require some form of preparation. Nickel Boys is one of those.Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead, Nickel Boys — as the synopsis states — “chronicles the powerful friendship between two young Black teenagers navigating the harrowing trials of reform school together in Florida.” What the synopsis doesn't say is how wrecked the movie will leave you.As Dori and Kpolly make very clear in this episode, the devastation is worth it based on the care and creativity poured into this film by all involved.
A longtime conductor of contagious positive vibrations, Danny Bodega is a much loved name among balearic dance music enjoyers round the globe! Co-founding Gazebo Records last year, his killer ear for breezy coastal cruisers and deep crossover club jams make Bodega's effervescent energies the perfect tone setter for those long 'n' balmy summer nights. Step back in time for 3 hours of extended hangs and zesty hedonistic pleasures with Danny Bodega as your good time guarantor! @beaton-4 Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when planning this mix, and what kind of listening environments might you see it being easily enjoyed in? A. Last year I went to my neighbour Lenny's night at a tiny basement club in Hackney with Dan Beaumont and Wes Baggaley playing records together. Had not felt that feeling in the club since the early days going out in Naarm with locals playing records all night at Lounge, Liberty Social and Roxanne Parlour. This mix is a nod to that vibe and best suited to before, or after the club hangs…or triathlon training. Q. Are there any records in the mix that are particularly close to your heart? A. There are quite a few records in here that I've had for more than 10 years and have only ever played to myself at personal kick-ons, so it's a delight to share them more widely. The Usual Suspects remix of Mr. C and Robert Owens' ‘A Thing Called Love' is one. While I've never been a fan of Robert Owens' vocal stylings, this remix is an overlooked $2 Layo & Bushwacka! banger. Will put it up on the Gazebo YouTube channel soon. Q. You and Nick managed to gather a tonne of support for your inaugural Gazebo Records release last year, releasing Fuemana's 1994 cult classic New Urban Polynesian on vinyl for the first time. What was your favourite part about that whole process? A. The response to the Fuemana family's story and musical talents from a whole new generation of fans really blew us away. Having Tony and Mamma Fuemana fly over from Auckland for the launch party was the perfect culmination of family, friends and community spirit around the release that was also the perfect send off for me moving to London the following day. News on Gazebo 002 incoming shortly… Q. Where can people catch you spinning next? A. All night at Frequence in Paris this Friday, Feb 21 at Bodega Nights, April 12 with Daisy Records and Evie at the Jago. Nick and I are putting on a Gazebo party over here on May 3 with some special guests that we are excited about!

from Jan 31 press conference Question “I hear there might be a mid-season change [re Scoreboard/judging oversight] in the way they do scoring is that is that possible do you want to see?” “It that just adds to the Ridiculousness right so what so the the the issue it is not that I think scores should remain unduly high the issue is that this thing we've put in place either intentionally or unintentionally has only attacked one part of scoring and it is tamped down the ceiling and done very little about anything else and so it's not Equitable across the board I'm all for credibility and scorting I'm all for uh you know increased um accuracy understanding that we are a subjective Sport and you will never remove the subjectivity I just don't think that this thing has been rolled out in a manner and it's supposed to be a pilot program and yet we're getting newsletters and we're getting we're getting told you know what the deductions are that are being missed most says who judging in venue is a different deal than sitting somewhere who knows where in a living room on a video screen and then that's that level of subjectivity is supposed to add more credibility and so I think what we have created is that with a with a targeted part of the scoring Spectrum we have judges looking over their shoulder and there's better ways to do this I I am not about like everything should get a 10 that's not it at all but there there has to be it's got to be whatever we do to increase uh credibility or or or Tamp down or whatever like no one has I've never had anyone present to me that on a consistent basis the wrong team wins or the wrong gymnast wins or whatever now you could say the score might have been too high but was it ranked correctly on that night that's the that's the real question right was it the best routine on that night and you know to the point where people SC scream and clamor enough that that you know at some point Trinity Thomas issued a public apology for getting a 10 for crying out loud here's the thing when you go to a sporting event Scott when you go to a baseball game what's one of the things you hope you see a home run what when you go to a when you go to a football game you you want to see an explosive play a long touchdown pass or things like that you hope to see those things that's sport controversy is also sport and there's nothing wrong with there's never going to be a time when we're when we're all happy with all the scores we see because all of us have biased all of us coaches fans everyone the point is is it ranked correctly is it consistent across the board and by any real objective measure we haven't created a more consistent situation this year we've created a more erratic situation here and and and I'm don't blame the judges one bit because they're doing the best they can to do the job that that that we've asked them to do there are easier ways to correct wrongs in venue and it should be in my opinion given the meat referee authority to convene a conference right now our meat referees have no authority to do much of anything um and and so in tennis the chair umpire can overrule the line judge in in uh the the home plate umpire in baseball can can walk out and call a conference if they thought something was missed at second base these are things that are common in other sports our meat refs are to sit on their hands they judge every routine and many most in almost every venue we we were required to have them but yet they really can't do anything except be a liason to deliver papers from a coach to to the panel to me if I'm if I'm an official I'm going to feel a whole lot better about somebody who's in venue with me as part of the official panel in the meet to be able if something egregious happens to be able to have the authority to walk over and say hey guys let's talk this over and and let's make sure we get this right um that's a simpler solution than than having to use technology from different angles not in venue it's a whole different ball game when you're not judging in venue and so I you know I don't want anything I say or anything live tweeted by the way I had nothing to do with that she just knows how I feel about it and and uh but she's right and and we're we're in a time where where Collegiate athletics's Olympic sports programs many are in Peril for funding and revenue share is is is coming in and scholarships are going to be moved from sport to sport all this everybody got an increase in scholarship no they didn't they got an increased limit and not every school is going to be able to do that and so at a time when when that uncertainty exists for at least 50 or 60% of our programs in our sport we drop this little poison pill into our scoring so that the fans sit there and wonder what the heck's going on so it's ill-timed it's incomplete it's illc conceived and and and it it just is and we keep having to make adjustments and now we're not going to put suggested uh deductions in the in the newsletter anymore I hear and we're not going to put those things out there we're just data collecting that's what we were supposed to be doing in the first place but and then but but there's all this information leaking about what's being looked for and what's not being taken and so it it's just been in my opinion an abject disaster and uh it was fairly predictable that it would be and I hope uh there's growing sentiment that we need to go about this a different way let's examine what we do in scoring let's try to create more accuracy yes but in a time like this we cannot be some kind of purist we can be marketable or we can be purist we're probably not going to be both and and and if we're going to be purist then let's look at the run the gamut let's look at the routine that goes 975 that should go 96 as well you know let's let's let's look at all of it not just the the the higher end scores because these kids work hard and then you see things like this you know where where kids they know they just did the best Vault their life it goes 9925 the next kid's like man what do you got to do to get a 995 I'm not even talking about a 10 Helen Hu should have got a 10 Helen that beam set is the best beam set in the country and she did it flawlessly I dare anybody to tell me where the real deduction was now I was standing I wasn't sitting where the judges were and I'm not questioning their credibility I'm questioning our judgment as a coaches group for for doing this thing that has just created some pendulum swing back and forth where the judges keep trying to find themselves and it's it's just unfortunate so thanks for putting me on my soap box I mean it's not affecting the rankings if you look year to year over the last several years I mean the rankings and the teams that are in the top 15 or what ever you know it's it's The Usual Suspects but if you look at where the uh at the at the higher end scores on each team and where they're capped there's where the change is and so the fans don't get to see their home run they see them and they clear the fence we just don't call them home runs anymore I said that on the air um but it's that was kind of what I meant anyway...” - Jay Clark

The police gather together five less than desirable members of society as they investigate a crime, but what it creates is a whole other story. Alongside plenty of laughter, they debate the ultimate horror villain (Freddy vs. Chucky vs. Jigsaw), share horror-fueled childhood memories, and even read a fan's ominous message questioning Jackie's love for a good slasher. Finally, Amber dishes her "Employee Picks," a nostalgic selection of films from 1995 - 2005. Join for the twists, laughs, and a perfect farewell to spooky season! — No More Late Fees https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com 909-601-NMLF (6653) — Follow Us on Social: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nomorelatefees TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@nomorelatefees Facebook https://www.facebook.com/nomorelatefees Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@nomorelatefees Twitter https://x.com/NoMoreLateFees — CONQUERing myconquering.com 10% Off Code: JACKIE10 — NostaBeauty https://nostabeauty.com 20% Off Code: NMLF — Previous Episodes Space Jam- https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/space-jam The Hot Chick- https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/the-hot-chick Body Swapping Movies with Amber- https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/body-swapping-movies-with-amber --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nomorelatefees/support

LB returns from space and is appalled by what they discover: John and Niki, exactly the same as ever. Unfortunately for LB, the podcast's mystical properties immediately begin working to erode any perspective or normalcy that they acquired during their working hiatus. You will be pleased to know that topics of discussion for this episode include Al Roker's diaper guy, a complete plot summary for The Usual Suspects, Mario's greatest challenge yet, and just like always, somehow a lot more.Welcome to If You're Driving, Close Your Eyes, a podcast about navigating the cruelty, chaos, and wonder of our terrifying world. Niki, John, LB— and our producer Jordo— try to find meaning and clarity one or twelve subjects at a time: from the menu at Cheesecake Factory to a human man dressed up as Snoopy tucking you into bed.Who are we?: We are Niki Grayson (https://twitter.com/godsewa) (the Buster Keaton of basketball), John Warren (https://twitter.com/FloppyAdult) (business boy and wassail pervert, short), LB Hunktears (https://twitter.com/hunktears) (handsome genius, 5'8", America's Gamer), and producer Jordan Mallory (https://bsky.app/profile/jordo.bsky.social) (frog with computer). Pr. Larry Peters of Grace Lutheran-Clarksville, TN Rounding Up the Usual Suspects The post 2053. Responding to Dr. Gerald Kieschnick on the Decline of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod – Pr. Larry Peters, 7/23/24 first appeared on Issues, Etc..
HOUR ONE: “MJ12: JFK and UFOs” *** No one likes uninvited guests – and it appears, neither do those in the afterlife. (Dead Village) *** Ask Pedro Rodrigues Filho and he'll tell you he's a nice guy. After all, he may be a serial killer – but he only kills bad guys. (The Real-Life Dexter) *** What caused the sky to go dark in the middle of the day back in 1780? (New England's Dark Day)==========HOUR TWO: What caused complete darkness to engulf the New England town of Newburyport in 1871 – and what were the strange lights seen by dozens of students and their teacher? *** Engineers working to link Scotland and England with cables on the floor of the ocean have stumbled across an amazing find from Word War 1… a submarine that was sunk due to a sea monster! (The Submarine Sunk by a Sea Monster) *** “The Mira Theater Haunting” by Bili White ==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: Paul Bernardo, with the help of his wife Karla Homolka, stalked a Canadian suburb with a number of terrible rapes that were only the beginning of their life of cruelty. They would come to be known as the Ken and Barbie Killers. (The True Horror of the Ken and Barbie Killers) *** When you think of a con artist, you think of slick players like Johnny Hooker and Henry Gondorf from “The Sting”, masters of disguise and ID like Frank Abagnale from “Catch Me If You Can”, or even the mysterious Keyser Söze from “The Usual Suspects”. But I'm guessing what you never picture in your head is a Victorian woman named Madame Rachel. She never got her own movie, but she was the real deal. (The Con Woman Madame Rachel) *** A forest in beautiful West Sussex, UK is only beautiful from the outside – for within, witnesses have seen mysterious things… including UFOs, mysterious deaths, and unexplained vanishings.
