This week in physical media may be appealing to the cults out there. Whichever you belong to, Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski are here to guide you towards your particular following. Perhaps you are in the Richard E. Grant & Bruce Robinson cult. Or stay on that side of the pond with an Oscar-winning musical and a film that was the Bridgerton of its time in the way it uses music. Maybe you're in the late Friday the 13th cult and enjoy its post-Paramount days. Or you have a taste for a marathon of Blaxploitation. Whether you love movie doggies or mutated bears, its best to just avoid the sleeping bags this week. 1:38 - Criterion (Withnail & I 4K, How to Get Ahead in Advertising 4K) 14:36 - Sony (Oliver 4K, A Knight's Tale 4K) 26:29 - Arrow (Jason Goes to Hell 4K, Jason X 4K) 47:09 - Shout (Blaxploitation Classics Vol 1) 1:02:43 - Kino (Wonder Dogs, The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders, Prophecy 4K) 1:23:01 – New Theatrical Titles On Blu-ray (The Quiet Ones, Presence 4K) 1:24:15 - New Blu-ray Announcements

GET SHORTY and OUT OF SIGHT weren't the only high-profile Elmore Leonard adaptations of the 1990s. Quentin Tarantino's long-awaited follow up to PULP FICTION was a race- and setting-swapped adaptation of Rum Punch retitled JACKIE BROWN, starring exploitation icons Pam Grier and Robert Forster. It's the OUT OF SIGHT episode, and our guest is Bilge Ebiri. Do we need to sell you on this? OK, fine: in 1998 Steven Soderbergh took a job for hire directing an Elmore Leonard adaptation and ended up finding the style that would define much of his career, minting George Clooney as a movie star, capturing Jennifer Lopez's best-ever performance, working with Don Cheadle and Luis Guzman and a bunch of other people for the first time, and making one of the most watchable films of the 1990s. Jake also read the whole book. We talk about Leonard's moral universe, prison stuff, cop stuff, crime fiction stuff. I mean, come on. It's the OUT OF SIGHT episode with Bilge. Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 18ú lá de mí Aibreán, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1970 tháinig na trí spásaire Apollo 13 air ais chuig an domhain agus leaindeáil siad san Aigéan Ciúin. I 2003 rinne daoine tástáil eolaíochta ar bosca a bhí 2,000 bliain d'aois agus cheap siad go raibh cnámh ann ó James – deartháir d'Íosa. I 1998 bhí scannáin sa phictiúrlann cosúil le Flubber, The Titanic agus Jackie Brown. I 2011 bhí tuairimíocht láidir san Aonach Urmhumhan de bharr gur bhuaigh daoine 4.7 milliúin euro sa Lotto. Bhí an cúpla ag déanamh é ar feadh 20 bhliain agus á dhéanamh na huimhreacha céanna ach níor ainmníodh iad. Sin Room 5 agus Oliver Cheatham le Make Luv – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 2003. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1984 fuair Michael Jackson obráid in LA de bharr gur chuaigh a ghruaig trí thine nuair a bhí sé ag taifead fógra do Pepsi. I 2006 dhíol Elton John a lán éadaí agus chuaigh níos mó ná 700 míle dollar chuig carthanas do SEIF. Dhíol sé níos mó ná 10 míle píosa d'éadaí I rith 5 lá I Nua Eabhrac sa Rockefeller Centre. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh Conan O'Brien I Meiriceá I 1963 agus rugadh aisteoir Melissa Joan Hart I Nua Eabhrac ar an lá seo I 1976 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sí. Beidh mé ar ais libh an tseachtain seo chugainn le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 18th of April, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1970: americas three apollo 13 atstronauts splashed down safetly in the pacific with percision yesterday. 2003: scientific testes on a 2,000 year old stone box claimed that it once held the bones of james, said to have been the brother of jesus. 1998 – If you went to the cinema in the county movies such as Flubber, the Titanic and Jackie Brown were popular films. 2011 Speculation Nenagh was high to the identity of the couple who won €4.7m Lotto draw. The couple, who have been doing the same numbers for over 20 years, wish to remain anonymous. That was Room 5 and Oliver Cheatham with Make Luv – the biggest song on this day in 2003. Onto music news on this day In 1984 Michael Jackson underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair damage done after his hair caught fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial. 2006 A sale of clothes belonging to Sir Elton John raised more than $700,000 (£395,000) for the singer's Aids charity. Over 10,000 pieces were sold during a five-day sale in New York City at the specially-created shop, Elton's Closet, at New York's Rockefeller Centre. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – Conan O Brien was born in America in 1963 and actress Melissa Joan Hart was born in New York on this day in 1976 and this is some of the stuff she has done. I'll be back with you next week with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! This episode, we're diving into one of Quentin Tarantino's most underrated films—Jackie Brown (1997). Adapted from Elmore Leonard's novel Rum Punch, this crime thriller showcases Tarantino's signature style but with a more mature and restrained approach compared to Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.Setting the Scene: A Game of SurvivalPam Grier stars as Jackie Brown, a flight attendant caught smuggling money for arms dealer Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). When she's busted by the ATF, she finds herself caught between law enforcement and Ordell, who won't hesitate to eliminate loose ends. With the help of bail bondsman Max Cherry (Robert Forster), Jackie hatches a plan to outmanoeuvre both sides and secure her own future. Why It Stands OutPam Grier's Iconic Performance – A true 70s blaxploitation star, Grier delivers a powerhouse performance that cements Jackie Brown as one of Tarantino's best-written characters.Samuel L. Jackson as Ordell Robbie – Charismatic, chilling, and endlessly quotable, Jackson's villain is both funny and terrifying.Robert Forster's Career Revival – As the world-weary Max Cherry, Forster brings a grounded, heartfelt presence that earned him an Oscar nomination.A Different Tarantino – While still packed with sharp dialogue and memorable characters, Jackie Brown leans more into slow-burn tension and character depth rather than hyper-stylized violence.Elmore Leonard's Influence – The film stays true to the novel's sharp plotting and richly drawn characters, making for a crime thriller with real emotional weight.Themes: Trust, Betrayal, and Second ChancesUnlike Tarantino's usual revenge-driven stories, Jackie Brown is about survival and reinvention. Jackie isn't looking for payback—she's trying to carve out a better life for herself in a world stacked against her. The film explores aging, regret, and loyalty, particularly in Jackie's dynamic with Max Cherry, whose quiet admiration adds an unexpected layer of romance.A Dad's TakeJackie Brown is a must-watch for fans of Tarantino, crime thrillers, and smartly written characters. While it may not have the explosive action of his other films, it offers something even better—a masterfully crafted, character-driven story with a killer soundtrack and one of the coolest leading ladies in cinema. So, grab a beer, settle in, and join us as we unpack one of Tarantino's finest films on Bad Dads Film Review!

Welcome back to Watch With Jen. Just in time for the fifth anniversary of the podcast (which officially began on March 3, 2020), I'm releasing the first of at least a two-part episode devoted to L.A. Movies. Like everyone else, I watched in horror as the Santa Ana wind wildfires ripped through a city that I dearly love at the start of 2025. Unable to contribute financially to the many worthy charities and Go Fund Me accounts that were launched in its wake, nor volunteer on the ground from where I live in Phoenix, I figured the next best thing that I could do was to pay tribute to some of the wonderfully rich, diverse, & creatively inspiring films that have been made in the city. My earnest hope is that it might inspire more productions to shoot there in the future (which would bring necessary jobs back to L.A.) and also to give listeners a nice little reprieve from the stresses of this impossibly difficult year. Each week has felt like its own horror movie for so many people in my orbit, including myself. Our inaugural episode for season six features a staggeringly great lineup of artists & film minds. You'll hear from CALIFORNIA BEAR author Duane Swierczynski on JACKIE BROWN, Senior Vice President of The Black List Kate Hagen on MIRACLE MILE, film critic and UC Denver professor Walter Chaw on THE DRIVER & HICKEY & BOGGS, and WHO INVITED THEM filmmaker and author Duncan Birmingham on SWINGERS. A feature length tour of Los Angeles in the movies, I hope you enjoy the launch of Season 6. And as we head into my favorite season, perhaps it'll inspire you to get ready to visit the City of Angels again or at the very least, eagerly anticipate the second part of these talks which wander into Lynchian and Friedkin territory. Thank you so much for joining me these past five years; we'll be hitting the 250th episode of the podcast this season which is mind-boggling to me & I couldn't do it without your support.Originally Posted on Patreon (3/3/25) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/123479696Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive Shop Watch With Jen logo Merchandise in Logo Designer Kate Gabrielle's Threadless Shop (+ Direct Link to the Mug) Donate to the Pod via Ko-fi
We present our conclusion to Black History Month with actor focus; this time we celebrate the career of Samuel L. Jackson! We're looking 3 of his starring vehicles Snakes on a Plane, then The Great White Hype and finally Soul Men, also starring the late, great Bernie Mac!Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most iconic, prolific, and versatile actors in modern cinematic history. With a career spanning over five decades, Jackson has appeared in more than 150 films, cementing his status as a cultural icon and a box office powerhouse. His breakthrough role came in Spike Lee's Jungle Fever (1991), but it was his unforgettable performance as Jules Winnfield in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994) that propelled him to global stardom. That role earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor and introduced audiences to his signature blend of charisma, intensity, and humor — all delivered with that unmistakable commanding voice.Throughout his career, Jackson has balanced blockbuster success with critically acclaimed performances. He's a staple in Tarantino's films, appearing in Jackie Brown, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight, showcasing his ability to deliver complex, morally ambiguous characters with unmatched flair. His work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nick Fury has made him a cornerstone of one of the most successful film franchises in history, introducing him to a new generation of fans.Despite his widespread popularity, Samuel L. Jackson's awards recognition has often lagged behind his cultural impact. In addition to his Oscar nomination for Pulp Fiction, Jackson has received numerous honors, including a BAFTA Award, Golden Globe nominations, and an Honorary Academy Award in 2022, recognizing his lifetime achievements and contributions to cinema.Jackson's legacy is defined not only by his memorable performances but also by his ability to elevate even the most minor roles into something unforgettable. Whether in gritty dramas, high-octane action films, or sharp comedies, his presence demands attention, often turning supporting parts into scene-stealing moments. Beyond acting, Jackson's influence extends to his advocacy for diversity in Hollywood, his mentorship of younger actors, and his efforts to champion independent filmmakers. With a career that seamlessly spans indie gems, blockbusters, and prestige films, Samuel L. Jackson stands as a living legend whose legacy is defined by his versatility, consistency, and undeniable cultural presence — a true icon whose impact will resonate for generations to come.Snakes on a Plane is a 2006 American action thriller[3] film directed by David R. Ellis and starring Samuel L. Jackson. It was released by New Line Cinema on August 18, 2006, in North America and the UK. The film was written by David Dalessandro, John Heffernan, and Sebastian Gutierrez and follows the events of dozens of venomous snakes being released on a passenger plane in an attempt to kill a trial witness. The Great White Hype is a 1996 American sports comedy film directed by Reginald Hudlin. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Berg, Damon Wayans, Jeff Goldblum, Jon Lovitz, Cheech Marin, John Rhys-Davies, Salli Richardson and Jamie Foxx. The film satirizes racial preferences in boxing, and was inspired by Larry Holmes's 1982 fight with Gerry Cooney (who was known as "The Great White Hope") and Mike Tyson's 1995 return fight vs. Peter McNeeley. Entertainment Weekly called Rev. Fred Sultan (Samuel L. Jackson) a "Don King-clone."Soul Men is a 2008 American musical comedy film directed by Malcolm D. Lee, and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Bernie Mac, Sharon Leal and Sean Hayes, released on November 7, 2008. It was one of three Mac's films that were released after his death (and was actually released on the same date as another posthumous film, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa).Mac and Isaac Hayes died on August 9 and 10, 2008, respectively. Director Lee said the film was heavily re-edited to soften the tone of the film, as a tribute to the two actors.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

While Jackie Brown may not enjoy the same mainstream fame as Tarantino's other films, it is undoubtedly one of his most mature and thoughtful works. It's a film willing to take its time, diving into its characters' intricacies and motivations, making it a deeply satisfying watch for those willing to appreciate its subtleties.

In this episode I chat with former creative director turned career coach, Jackie Brown, for a conversation about finding purpose and career momentum in the second half of life. We chat about how to reinvigorate or even reinvent, your career when its feeling stale and unfulfilling. We dive into how the pandemic prompted so many of us to reflect on our careers and question what truly brings meaning and fulfillment. Jackie shares her personal journey from a successful creative director to a coach dedicated to helping others find their unique path forward. We also discuss the challenge of separating identity from a job title, the powerful role of experience and connections, and how to align with our values to tap into our full potential. Jackie also introduces her “Meaningful Mid-Career Momentum Matrix”—a guide for examining, exploring, and thriving in a career that reflects your true self. If you're ready to make conscious choices toward a fulfilling future, this episode is for you.
