In this short episode I look at the current health and fitness obsession / accountability undertaken by hip hop musicians, from Jay Z and Busta Rhymes to Method Man and Kendrick Lamar. With the accumulation of approximately 2.5 billion dollars of personal wealth Jay Z is the worlds richest music artist of any genre and fittingly works out to prolong his health, with weight training and a keen eye on a balanced healthy diet. Countless rappers have fallen victim to an early grave, by way of obesity related disease and or alcohol / drug related consumption. With this in mind, the famous MCs of New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago are enlisting personal trainers and dieticians to assist with weight loss, muscle gain and nutritional adherence. The point being...next time you play your favorite artist, get down to your local gym or PT and break a sweat yourself. Watch the full episode on YouTube or listen on Spotify, Amazon Music or Apple Podcasts. Please feel free to comment and subscribe to the channel for weekly content. Thanks for listening.

Another year, another month, another pod. Welcome to Episode 54 of This is Not Happening (TINH), an Album of the Month (AOTM) Podcast. In Part 1 we deep dive into an Album that one of us has chosen and in Part 2 we play 'Spin it or Bin it'. We pick a theme and each pick a song that represents that theme. We judge the selections by asking the question 'Spin It or Bin It'?In Part 1, Joey hosts a bit of a love-in on The Weather Station's 7th album Humanhood. In Part 2, Spin It or Bin It, our theme this month is 'New Music', tracks from the past 2-3 months. ----- Part 1 | The Weather Station | Humanhood -----One of the rare times that we've double dipped on artist, we return to Tamara Linderman and The Weather Station. In 2021 we all (eventually) loved Ignorance. An album focusing largely on nature and the climate crisis. It was an album of global concerns. Humanhood is feels quite different, it feels deeply personal but retains global relevance in different ways.I think this is going to be a big one for the pod this year. I know Joey and David will love this album but not so sure about Nolan and Guy. We discuss the album in comparison to Ignorance, we talk about production and sound mixing, percussion backing vocals and lovely lovely woodwind.Listen to the album here.Listen to the essential Sheroes podcast interview with Tamara here.Watch a few videos here.Buy some stuff here. ----- Part 2 | Spin It or Bin It | New Music -----January / February is usually a great time for new tracks. This year is no exception. Let's celebrate that. We each pick a new track and ask each other 'Spin It or Bin It?'Guy chose Orlando In Love by Japanese Breakfast.Joey chose Ocean Steppin' by John Glacier and Sampha.David chose One Foot by Greentea Peng.Nolan chose Lalala by Redman and Method Man.Here is a link to a long list of new tracks that we put together. Enjoy. Rory is still terrifying the hoes, but this time they scared him back when they informed him of his ‘Unc' status. Somehow, this leads us to learn an unfortunate fact about Mal - he's cool with semi-incest as long as she's bad enough, and totally okay with Rory fucking after his funeral (). The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony of 2024 had plenty of speeches, performances, and surprises. It was surprising to see how Dr. Dre can't read well and predictable that the great Method Man would save the speech when inducting Mary J Blige. Jay and Bobby sift through the prestigious night's events. Kelly Clarkson performs a Foreigner tune and Bob loses his mind at the sight of his crush nailing it. Everyone agrees that Sammy Hagar is the most worry-free rocker of the night. Dave Chappelle inducts A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes performs. Released on December 13, 2024, through Death Row Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records, this album marks a significant reunion since their seminal work 'Doggystyle' in 1993, which shaped the West Coast rap scene.Analytic Dreamz discusses the album's 15 tracks, emphasizing the eclectic mix of collaborations that span genres, including singles like "Gorgeous" featuring Jhené Aiko, which peaked at No. 26 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, alongside other tracks like "Outta da Blue" with Alus and "Another Part of Me" featuring Sting. The segment outlines notable collaborations with artists such as BJ the Chicago Kid, Jelly Roll, Method Man, Eminem, 50 Cent, and even Tom Petty, showcasing how 'Missionary' blends rap with elements of soul, rock, and Middle Eastern music. Innovative samples, including The Police's "Message in a Bottle" in "Another Part of Me" and Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" in "Sticcy Situation," are highlighted as creative touchpoints.Analytic Dreamz explores Dr. Dre's production approach, where he treats Snoop's voice as an "instrument," leading to a G-Funk sound that's both classic and modern. Snoop's lyrical maturity at 53 is a focal point, balancing his iconic "gangsta" persona with thoughtful content, all underpinned by diverse musical dynamics like piano hooks, brass sections, and string arrangements. The cultural and historical context of 'Missionary' is analyzed, presenting it as a sequel to 'Doggystyle' and a celebration of their influence over three decades. The album's themes of nostalgia mixed with innovation aim at a broad appeal across generations, with its cross-genre collaborations breaking traditional hip-hop boundaries.Promotion efforts are covered, including social media teasers like previews of "Gunz N Smoke" and strategic appearances linked to Snoop's business ventures. 50 Cent's role in marketing through humor and social media is noted as pivotal. The reception and impact of 'Missionary' are discussed, positioning it as a "cultural moment" with critical acclaim for tracks like "Hard Knocks" and "Pressure." Analytic Dreamz also reflects on how this album signifies broader trends in music towards genre blending and challenging stylistic norms. In summary, 'Missionary' is described as a landmark release that reaffirms Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's enduring legacy in hip-hop, offering listeners a blend of nostalgia and fresh creativity in 2024.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
For many hip-hop heads of a certain vintage, the first Wu-Tang record and the subsequent solo albums represent the pinnacle of musical grittiness, lyrical density, and impressive business acumen. Watching RZA and the supremely talented Clan members take over the world with an uncompromising sound and vision was extremely impressive and brought some undeniable classic records into being. During this period, RZA's basement studio was flooded, and that event impacted a few of the albums' final versions. Tical is one of those records, and this week Dad Bod Rap Pod hosts Demone Carter, David Ma, Nate LeBlanc guest Cutso gather to share their thoughts on Method Man's debut. Method Man was poised to be the breakout star from the Wu, and Tical is perhaps not the album that the market expected from this undeniably charismatic and dynamic rhymer. We discuss the lyrics, the beats, the tone, and the circumstances surrounding this release 30 years ago. As you will hear, our opinions on this record are somewhat divided, which always makes for a more interesting discussion. This episode was produced by Paolo "Cutso" Bello. Theme song by DEM ONE and Cutso. Brought to you by Stony Island Audio.
