#208 In this episode, I welcome back clinical neuropsychologist and founder of Biocognitive science, Dr. Mario Martinez. Mario is the author of the best-selling book "The MindBody Code'' and lectures worldwide on how cultural beliefs affect health and longevity more than genetics. His research demonstrates how thoughts and their biological expression co-emerge within a cultural history, even as current science continues to divide mind and body, and ignore the influence cultural contexts have on the process of health, illness, and aging. Mario has interviewed over 300 centenarians from around the world and who also live in 'Blue Zones'. People who are not only over 100 years old, but are mentally and physically healthy. Today we dive into what he learned from this and how our culture, people and environment affect our health and happiness long-term and what we can do to change it. Prepare to have your life changed. See you on the inside. About Mario: Dr Mario Martinez is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in how cultural beliefs affect the interaction of productivity, health and longevity. He is the founder of Biocognitive Science and the Empowerment Code. He developed an organizational model that views productivity and wellness as inseparable components of sustainable profits. The Empowerment Code is the first organizational training program that brings combined principles of cultural psychoneuroimmunology, cultural neuroscience and cultural anthropology to the workplace. Based on parameters that allow the immune system to make several hundred thousand decisions per minute, the Empowerment Code offers an organizational language that maximizes creativity, initiative and productivity, while diminishing conditions that contribute to chronic illnesses. Martinez holds a Masters degree in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University and a Doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Madrid. He also has post-doctoral training in psychopharmacology from Farleigh Dickinson University. Because of his work in how cultural beliefs affect the immune system, Martinez has investigated alleged cases of stigmata for the Catholic Church, the BBC, National Geographic and Discovery Channel. He lectures worldwide on his theory of Biocognition and teaches Empowerment Code principles to top US corporate executives and to global organizations in Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia Pacific. Is it possible that cultural beliefs can affect our health and longevity? Clinical neuropsychologist and founder of Biocognitive science, Dr. Mario Martinez, believes it does! He lectures worldwide on how cultural beliefs affect health and longevity more than genetics. In today's interview he discusses ideas such as how our immune systems have their own moral system and how resilience has an immune-boosting factor. He also considers how archetypal wounds affect our DNA and RNA and can be passed through the generations.  His research demonstrates how thoughts and their biological expression coemerge within a cultural history, even as current science continues to divide mind and body, and ignore the influence cultural contexts have on the process of health, illness, and aging. Cultures that view growing older as positive are associated with increased wisdom and have higher numbers of centenarians living healthier lives than cultures that view aging as a process of inevitable deterioration. He also teaches how joy requires sufficient self-esteem to accept it without self-sabotage. He is the author of "The MindBody Code." Learn more about his field of “biocognition” in today's interview. Parkinsons Recovery was founded in 2004 by Robert Rodgers, PhD to provide support, information and resources to persons who currently experience the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. https://www.blogtalkradio.com/parkinsons-recovery Dr. Mario E. Martinez, a clinical neuropsychologist, established the Biocognitive Science Institute™ in 1998. He developed a theory of mindbodyculture he calls Biocognition to suggests how cognition and biology coemerge with their cultural history in a bioinformational field that seeks maximum contextual relevance. Mario Martinez's theory of biocognitive science proposes that the brain learns to interpret symbols and their biological correlates from cultural contexts. He is the proponent of cultural psychoneuroimmunology (how cultural beliefs affect the regulation of nervous, immune, and endocrine systems). The plasticity of our brain allows for reversals of dysfunctional behavior learned from the cultural reality we weave to perceive our world. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/biocognitiveculture/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/biocognitiveculture/support

One of the most significant differences between human beings and animals is that we’re   the only creatures that have a culture, and a cognitive collective understanding that governs us. These biocultural beliefs inform whether we get older, age or achieve longevity.    Longevity is learned culturally, it’s not determined by genetics. We actually have the ability to influence our own aging process.    How does our cultural context impact our physiological outcomes? What can we learn from the world’s healthiest and happiest centenarians? How do we move from fear-based rigidity to horizons of flexibility?   In this episode, I’m joined by author and leading subject matter expert in longevity and anti-aging, Dr. Mario Martinez. We discuss why physical health cannot be separated from our culture.  Growing older only takes time, aging is really what you do with the time based on your culture and beliefs. -Dr. Mario Martinez     Three Takeaways    There is a missing link between mind and body in the aging process. Health and wellness are always communicated in a cultural context. 25% of our health outcomes are influenced by genetics, the rest is biocultural beliefs.  Longevity is learned culturally.Causes of health are inherited, but they need to be triggered. They just don’t happen automatically.  Avoid the extremes.People who practice any extreme health diet protocol with no room for flexibility often end up with deficiencies. If you do anything in excess and live within a rigid fear-based system, it depletes your body.    Guest Bio-  Dr. Martinez is a clinical neuropsychologist, founder of Biocognitive Science Institute and bestselling author.
