I know Nick Kurtz has the ROY award practically wrapped up in the American League, but will Colson Montgomery receive some votes? In just 41 games, he's hit 12 home runs with 34 RBIs. The 12 home runs are fourth in baseball among all rookies, and the 34 RBIs rank 12th. The 11 players ahead of him have all played twice as many games, with some nearly three times as many. BTW, he's hitting .229 with 44 strikeouts in 41 games (28% K-Rate, 7% BB-Rate) with a poor chase rate.5.What does going 4 for 15 in your first four professional games get you? An 8-year, $67 million contract. That's what Samuel Basallo signed on Friday. It's a deal similar to what Jackson Chourio signed before the start of the 2024 (8-year, $87 million or 30% more). Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner talk MLB betting for Friday. The MLB Friday betting preview with Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner broke down twelve games with both hosts riding an 8–2 streak on best bets. Munaf opened by stressing the urgency with roughly 35 games left, while Griffin noted, “we're getting hot at the right time of year.” Colorado at Pittsburgh led the card. Antonio Senzatela, torched in a 17–16 loss the last time he saw the Pirates, carries a 2–8 road record. Munaf called the over 8.5 the best angle. Griffin, mocking the Rockies as “one of the least competitive franchises in global sports,” leaned Pirates at home but doubted unders due to Colorado bats. Washington at Philadelphia followed with Cade Cavalli against Taijuan Walker. Cavalli threw seven shutout innings versus the Phillies previously, but Munaf warned that rematches favor the hitters. The Baltimore Orioles have extended Samuel Basallo a week into his major league career. The 21-year-old reportedly agreed to an eight-year, $67 million extension that can max out at $88.5 million with incentives. The Orioles seem to like what they see in the young catcher, but that leads to questioning what will become of Adley Rutschman. Did you notice that as soon as your favorite team has a series in Tampa or Sacramento, there is a “news” story that sounds like Yelp reviews of the non-major-league facilities? He is stealing bases, which helps, but should owners be worried? Is this the player they drafted?a.He's also been criticized for his lack of hustle. Do you think that now that he's being paid, he's lost something?2.Sal Perez and Adley Rutschman hit home runs on Wednesday. It was Adley's first home run since April 20, and he's barely hitting above the Mendoza line. Perez last hit a home run on April 13 and is also just above the Mendoza line. Who are you more concerned about for the rest of the season?3.Dylan Crews will be out for a while after suffering an oblique strain on Tuesday. Robert Hassell III gets the call. He's far from the player everyone expected when he was drafted by the Padres in the first round in 2020, but he's played alright this season, with a .288 batting average, four home runs, and nine stolen bases. What do you expect, and how long do you think he'll be out?4.Patrick Corbin looked like he was playing out the string after signing that great contract with Washington. He went unowned in most leagues. This year, he's been a different guy. Pitching for Texas, he's won three games and posting a 3.59 ERA.
