(0:00) Felger and Murray open the final hour of the show discussing Garrett Crochet’s decision to opt out of the MLB All-Star Game. (12:01) Callers weigh in on an Agenda Free Friday. (19:49) Final thoughts, calls, and email of the day. (32:59) The Final Word!
Jones and Keefe opened up the show discussing the Boston Red Sox, last night's win over the Colorado Rockies, and the team's performances on offense since trading Rafael Devers. The guys also talked about the latest on Alex Bregman's quad strain and the workload of pitcher Garrett Crochet.
How long until the Red Sox' All Star third baseman returns? Bregman has been a great mentor to the young players, but should he wait to return until after the All Star break? Are there any concerns on Garrett Crochet's workload after two uncharacteristic starts in a row?
From 'Play Tessie' (subscribe here): The full crew is back as Gordo, Sammy, and Pat react to a great 4th of July weekend for the Red Sox as they swept the Nationals on the road. What is the vibe surrounding the team on a relatively scotch-free series? Also, Walker Buehler may have saved himself at least one more start in the rotation, but the need for another arm is up there with a bat and a reliever. And, Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman, and Alex Bregman will represent the Sox at the All Star Game, but there are definitely names that can be argued should have made the roster.
Jordan, Jack and Brian recap a fun series in our nation's capital, as the Boston Red Sox delivered belt to ass against the Washington Nationals over the weekend. In the series sweep, the Red Sox won, on aggregate, 27-9.Trevor Story and Ceddanne Rafaela continue to carry the offensive load for the Red Sox since the Rafael Devers trade, Lucas Giolito is *that* dude again and Walker Buehler took a massive step in the right direction.Congrats on the All-Star selections, as well, to Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman and Alex Bregman, even though Carlos Narvaez and Rafaela were obvious snubs.Make sure to follow us on Twitter, @ThePeskyReport. Jordan, Doink and Bayleigh recap the Boston Red Sox series win over the Cincinnati Reds that didn't really feel the part.Wilyer Abreu was an animal, Trevor Story continues to show life, Garrett Crochet struggles but dominates at the same time, and the Red Sox bullpen and defense are a mess despite staring down the barrel of a sweep. The trio also reopens Jarren Duran trade dialogue, as well as Aroldis Chapman, and how trading one or both of them hardly spells the end of the line for the 2025 team.Make sure to follow us on Twitter, @ThePeskyReport. Jones and Mego were joined by Rob Bradford, of Audacy Sports and WEEI Red Sox insider, to discuss last night's Sox win over the Reds, the play of the Sox offense, Garrett Crochet's performance last night, and the timeline for Alex Bregman's return. Jones and Mego talked about UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham leaving the university and what it means for Bill Belichick. Finally, Jones and Mego discussed the latest in NHL and NBA free agency.
After an offensive explosion at Fenway last night, Hart and Fitzy debate why the Red Sox are so inconsistent. Garrett Crochet got more than enough run support, was Chase Burns tipping his pitches?
Former MLB Pitcher Josh Towers and Scott Seidenberg talk about the latest news around Major League Baseball and take a look at the market for the Most Wins in July. The Inside Pitch w/ Josh Towers Ep. 13, recorded June 30, features Scott Seidenberg and former MLB pitcher Josh Towers discussing trends across Major League Baseball as July approaches. The episode begins with a startling stat: 61 games have been decided by 10 or more runs before July, the most since 2004. These blowouts impact betting lines through recency bias, but the hosts argue savvy bettors can exploit this. For example, after the Cubs' 12–3 win over Houston, the line moved in favor of the Astros, who bounced back the next day with a 3–0 win behind Framber Valdez. Towers emphasized players mentally reset after blowouts and that those games often preserve top relievers for the next matchup, giving smart teams like Houston an edge. The Mets were highlighted as a struggling team despite early-season promise. They were swept in Pittsburgh and outscored 30–4. A recent players-only meeting didn't help, and June stats reveal deep issues: a 109 WRC+ (9th best) but a 4.80 ERA (5th worst). Pete Alonso dropped from the .360s to .291, and the lineup outside him is below .260. Senga's injury was flagged as a possible turning point. Towers also pointed out that pitchers like Blackburn and Montas returned from injury without sufficient rehab buildup. Montas had six rehab starts totaling just 18 innings and struggled in his second MLB outing. This points to systemic issues with pitcher preparation. The conversation shifted to elite pitching. Tarik Skubal leads MLB with a 9.86 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 1.98 FIP, making him the AL Cy Young favorite at -190. Garrett Crochet is a close second (+380), with similar innings, strikeouts, and a 2.54 FIP. Josh praised Skubal's ability to pitch downhill and manipulate the strike zone, describing it as a “blueprint” for pitching. He argued that current trends emphasizing vertical pitching miss these fundamentals. Ranger Suarez of the Phillies also drew attention with a 1.19 ERA over his last 10 starts, the best 10-game stretch since Cliff Lee. Phillies had the second-best ERA in June, supporting their rise despite Bryce Harper's injury. Josh stressed the value of quality starts—six innings, three or fewer earned—as essential to team success and underappreciated in today's stat-obsessed game. They examined home ballpark impacts, particularly Globe Life Park in Texas, now MLB's lowest scoring venue. Rangers are 30–12 to the under at home, yet Towers insists this is due to poor offense, not the ballpark. No player has more than nine homers, and he criticized swing mechanics and development. He also highlighted how teams like the Dodgers and Tigers, both 53–32, find success through depth, discipline, and pitching, while teams like the Mets lack cohesion. With July beginning, the hosts reviewed betting odds for most wins. Astros are the favorite at +450, but their schedule includes Colorado, Dodgers, and Cleveland, leading both analysts to question the pick. The Dodgers (+500) and Tigers (+750) are favored due to consistent performance and better matchups. The Cubs dropped from 20:1 to 9:1 after a large bet, but neither host found value there. Phillies and Rays have potential, though travel-heavy schedules are a concern. Lastly, they emphasized evaluating teams based on matchups rather than records alone, citing San Diego's poor performance against winning teams (15–28). The episode ends with a preview of their upcoming midseason awards show and a pregame.com promo code (BAT15) for $15 off. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sunday was a low point as the Nats lost their 8th consecutive game after getting swept by the last place Marlins. Mark & Al chime in after the 3-1 defeat that drops the team to 30-41 on the season and now only one game ahead of Miami in the NL East,(07:30) Davey Martinez was asked about his Saturday comments about the coaches & players in his pregame session with reporters prior to Sunday's game. Mark was on-hand and relays his analysis of what Martinez had to say.(18:45) The offense only scored run, but they did uncharacteristically draw four walks. Martinez shuffled up the lineup by moving CJ Abrams to 3rd in the the order with Alex Call in the leadoff spot. (24:10) MacKenzie Gore pitched fine, but did not have his A+ stuff. Gore gave up a pair of runs on six innings of work while striking out five Marlins. Gore retook the lead for MLB lead in strikeouts with 119 strikeouts, two ahead of Boston's Garrett Crochet.(29:35) Mark proposes an idea on who he would like to maybe see become the full time DH as the offense continues struggle.(32:00) Wilson Ramos signed a one day contract prior to the game in order to officially retire as a National. Ramos is widely considered the best catcher since the team moved to Washington. Ramos also was behind the plate for all three No-hitters in Nationals history.****(36:05) After taping, reports came out that Brady House was being called up along with Daylen Lile. Tim comes on to react to the news about House and discuss why Robert Hassell III & Jose Tena are being sent down to AAA.
The Nats had another 9th inning rally that came up short in Saturday afternoon's 4-3 loss to the Marlins. Mark & Al have a lot to react to after the 7th consecutive defeat and give blunt assessments on the State of the Rebuild.(11:45) Davey Martinez made an empassioned plea about his coaching staff in his postgame press conference. Martinez made news by saying "It's never on the coaches" in response to a question by the Washington Post. Did Davey throw his players "under the bus" within his postgame comments?(21:00) Mark asked veteran Josh Bell for his response to the comments by Martinez. The hosts examine his answer that seemed to not include a direct show of support.(25:00) Washington trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the 9th and came 90 feet shy of tying the game. Jacob Young was brought in as a pinch-runner, but questionably did not tag from 3rd on Amed Rosario's flyout to LF. Important to keep in mind that James Wood was on-deck in the situation.(31:10) Trevor Williams had a solid outing and allowed only a pair of Miami runs. Williams has made 14 starts this season and his ERA sits at 5.71.(33:40) Luis Garcia Jr. made a crucial error in the top of the 8th when he dropped a seemingly routine fly ball. His poor defense this season is put under the microscope as he ranks among the worst 2Bs thus far.(39:30) MacKenzie Gore takes the mound on Father's Day afternoon to try and end the team's skid. Gore currently trails only Boston's Garrett Crochet for the most strikeouts in MLB.
The Chicago White Sox were swept out of Texas by Corey Seager, Jacob DeGrom and the Rangers. The Sox played three close games, but could not eke out a single victory. Ferrar allowed a pair of runs to tie the game and ultimately Jeff McNeil ended the affair with a RBI single to leadoff the bottom of the 10th.(08:50) MacKenzie Gore struck out six Mets in as many innings of work on 89 pitches. Gore regained the lead for the most strikeouts in all of MLB from Garrett Crochet with 114 during the outing. Gore gave up a HR to Juan Soto and there seemed to be words exchanged between the two players who were once traded for each other.(18:35) The offense showed up early to lead 3-0 entering the middle of the 2nd. CJ Abrams had a big game by doubling twice and connecting on a solo HR to put Washington on top 4-2 in the 5th.(20:00) One of Abrams' double brought in a run, but the moment ended with Jose Tena getting thrown at home. Tena should not have been sent by Ricky Gutierrez with James Wood was waiting on-deck with two outs.(22:45) Andres Chapparo had a pinch -hit double in his 1st Big League at-bat of the season. Tim expresses his frustration though that Chapparo took Nasim Nuñez's roster spot as opposed to Brady House.

The Nats lost 8-3 to the visiting Cubs on Tuesday evening to open their six game home stand. Williams threw a shutout last week, but this outing was in line with his season that sports a 6.03 ERA in a dozen starts.(07:30) Five bullpen arms were needed and the first one used struggled the most. Andrew Chafin relieved Williams in the 5th and walked two of the three hitters he faced. Jackson Rutledge interestingly was used in the top of the 9th in mop-up duty.(11:45) The offense scored three runs right away, but did nothing in the final six frames.
