Sarah Larsen has blown through the juke joints and watering holes of America, the perfect example of a classical good girl gone outlaw. She’s shot whiskey in the Midwestern Wilds, danced to zydeco in Louisiana, fallen in love in the Rockies, and two-stepped on top of broken hearts in Nashville. With fiddle, banjo, and guitar in tow, Hoss sings the stories of her travels and travails, as well as traditional songs of the American experience. When not portraying the urban gypsy-cowgirl Hurricane Hoss, Sarah Williams Larsen is one of the Northeast’s hardest working fiddle players. An award-winning contest fiddler, classical call-girl, and session player, she’s recently lent her fingers to Dr. Dog, David Mayfield, Ben Arnold, Saskwatch, Mason Porter, and the Hot Club of Philadelphia. She has also been a member in the multi-instrumental folk trio Ladybird. Instagram: @sarahlarsenmusichttps://www.facebook.com/hurricanehoss

David Mayfield is the front man of The David Mayfield Parade. He's played in Cadillac Sky, and alongside The Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons. David grew up playing bass and touring in a bus with his family’s bluegrass band. He started collecting national awards while still a teen for his dexterity on guitar and mandolin. He has also appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” His fourth album Boy Howdy! is just out.
Seth visits a distillery in Gatlinburg, TN, and samples 19 different flavors of moonshine. We discuss public suicides, Russian mob hits, and the country band Sugarland. David Mayfield, of the David Mayfield Parade, tags along and provides comic relief. Special Guest: David Mayfield.
As far as I know there’s only one figure in the contemporary roots music community who can pick “Blackberry Blossom” like a boss and also do a tumbling run that ends in a cheerleader split (not at the same time, but I wouldn’t put it past him). If David Mayfield came into your mind just now then you get an Americana cookie, because that’s who I was thinking about! It’s been too long since we saw and heard from the bearded weirdo, but he brings his always explosive sense of entertainment to the Factory this week along with a great roots rock band, a mod folky couple and a quintet from Colorado that split the bluegrass atom.

David Mayfield left his desk job to start importing wine into Texas. He was first attracted by the quality of Uruguayan wine, but then that passion for the unique led him all over Europe and the world. He specializes in small production wineries, odd grape varieties, and unique flavors. He has recently opened a retail shop in Waco to even better showcase the wines.

This weekend marked the release of the information that we wait all year for – the lineup for the Winnipeg Folk Festival! This year’s lineup is an interesting mix of legends and unknowns, and we heard from some of the expected highlights. We also got to some exciting new music, as well as a look ahead to next week’s Juno Awards. Lastly, we had a conversation with our old friend Martyn Joseph, who returns to Winnipeg after a few years’ absence.
