We're greeted by The Video Dropbox's Josh Gorski & Joe Larsen, Filmmaker Dylan Reynolds and Podcaster Josh Hansen to discuss the popcorn Action/SciFi/Horror Paul W.S. Anderson (no, not the Wes or Paul Thomas guys!) and his brand of divisive big-budget B-movie themed material. Outside of Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon and the Blade Runner spin-off, are there any fans of his other productions (Pompeii, The Dark, The Sight, Monster Hunter, DOA, Pandorum, Death Race remake)? Is Alien Vs. Predator best enjoyed as a Godzilla/Universal Monsters slugfest or is it still too bland? Are the Resident Evil films best enjoyed as Mad Max and 28 Days Later type mayhem or are they still too debatable like the many Transformers and Fast & Furious type blockbusters? Is he another reliable mid-budget entertainer or still flawed in his visions? The roundtable chimes in and settles a Final Verdict so be there or be square! Andrew Houghton catches up with Te'Jon Sawyer, a JUCO transfer who announced his commitment to Griz hoops earlier in the day. New Sentinel track coach Dylan Reynolds makes his Nuanez Now debut, and Colter Nuanez hits a couple plot points from the NBA playoffs before Tommy Evans visits the studio to finish off the show.
Filmmaker and Action filmbuff Dylan Reynolds hops aboard to illustrate the movies that are rather similar to the old school Action formula rather similar to neo-westerns like High Noon and modern-day hostage/heist thrillers like Die Hard! Some of these also got Dog Day Afternoon, Trespass (1992), Assault on Precinct 13, Panic Room, Sudden Death and Treasure of the Sierra Madre vibes but those are the main two we're using to sum up these winners and losers in Dolph's catalog of mostly remarkably awesome actioners. We sum up the films: Detention (2003), Direct Action (2004), Missionary Man (2007), Command Performance (2009), Stash House (2012), Altitude (2017), Hard Night Falling (2019) and Castle Falls (2021) as well as give an honorable mention to Army of One/Joshua Tree (1993). So, uhhhh ... sorry guys. I had plans to record and release this week's podcast a day early, so it would drop on 4/20, but the good folks at Pfizer had other plans as my second Covid shot laid me up for a couple days. But anyway, here's an episode on the stoner slasher 4/20 Massacre. In a world filled with stoner comedies and stoner horror comedies, Dylan's movie stands alone as a more straightforward 80's style slasher, but with modern subject matter and sensibility. Enjoy! This week we are back talking about the 1982 Spanish masterpiece PIECES. We also review a new film coming out from director Dylan Reynolds called 4/20 MASSACRE and Jared realizes he really needs to work on reviewing things. Should probably write things down. I don't know. Aside from all the movie talk, we touch on a few bands that we highly recommend you check out. Also, we are not bad editors, Jared's laptop is just a piece of shit, so the recording seems to skip a few times. It may be time for an upgrade. But, fuck it. Grab a beer, sit back, and enjoy the show.
