Send us a textRemember Death Wish 3 from 1985? It seems this time they just said the hell with plot and just had Charles Bronson's character blow away anyone who even looked at him sideways. And that's about all we remember about this movie. So join us as we revisit this 80s violent revenge thriller and watch Paul Kersey dole out his vigilante justice the only way he knows how, in a part 3, over the top and void of any story substance at all. We can't wait. Do You Remember Liking This Movie?
What do you do with a prisoner so unhinged that he's been kicked out of 120 prisons to date? How have Britain's most secure facilities dealt with a man who could explode in a frenzy of brutal violence and destruction at any moment? What happens to a man who spends more than 25 years in solitary confinement? And most importantly: now that Britain's most infamous inmate has rebranded as an artist, poet, and man of peace, will it ever be safe to let him out? This is the story of the larger-than-life British institution, who once stripped naked, greased himself in butter, and ran at a dozen armed guards – just for the love of the brawl.Exclusive bonus content:Wondery - Ad-free & ShortHandPatreon - Ad-free & Bonus EpisodesFollow us on social media:YouTubeTikTokInstagramVisit our website:WebsiteSources available on redhandedpodcast.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

CONTENT WARNING: Discussion of brownface. If this movie is the rebirth of the Western, it'd be hard to tell because it's a real mess. It's a classic, and it absolutely makes sense why, but it's also a total mess of a film. No one knows what movie they're supposed to be in, the script is missing a ton of connective tissue, and Steve McQueen has the audacity to be bad at acting and an insufferable tool. Still, Yul Brynner and Charles Bronson are total badasses, and this Western via samurai flick manages to be a little entertaining. But really, just go watch Seven Samurai instead. Round up the gunfighters as we watch The Magnificent Seven on Have a Good Movie! You can email us with feedback at macintoshandmaud@gmail.com, or you can connect with us on BlueSky! For the final time (until his real breakthrough a decade later), Golden Harvest is trying to make Jackie Chan a star in the U.S. and they've signed up U.S. exploitation film director James Glickenhaus to transform Chan into a high kicking Charles Bronson in 1985's THE PROTECTOR. Playing a hard-nosed New York City cop teamed with Danny Aiello, Chan swears and shoots through a blood revenge film, but then - thoroughly displeased with the experience - he went and added a bunch of new scenes for the Hong Kong release. On this episode of WE DO OUR OWN STUNTS we look at Jackie Chan's frustrations, the good (and bad) of each release and WHICH REIGNS SUPREME. Enjoy! The post Episode 287 – We Do Our Own Stunts – The Protector (1985) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.
Death Wish (1974) – Charles Bronson grows a terrible mustache, receives a gun, and basically invents the vigilante dad genre. It's grimy, it's dated, and yet somehow it still hits way too close to home.

I get to do a short yet sweet overview on Charles Bronson's Family of Cops telefilm trilogy. What make these comfy mysteries stand out from other TV movies? Does Charlie and the cast of character actors get to play one badass family? And were these a decent swan song for Bronson's career or did it leave much to be desired? Today on the TV/Movie Rewind Podcast, Matt & Todd ride out with The Seven Magnificent Gladiators—Bruno Mattei's 1983 sword-and-sandals spectacle courtesy of Cannon Films. If you're Matt and Todd, you had us at either "Bruno Mattei" or "Cannon Films." But both?? We'll chip in for the 4K restoration ourselves. If you're not familiar with that glorious pairing, it's hard to explain just how much these movies mean to us. They're not trying to win awards—they're trying to inject pure entertainment into your bloodstream, like they've got a vendetta against subtlety and the solution involves kilotons of TNT strapped to a Chevy Caprice. What you're watching is the source code of entertainment. Just go along for the ride, and you will have a good time. The Seven Magnificent Gladiators is wild, it's fun, it's dubbed... and it's working on a budget. An inspired remix of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (by way of The Magnificent Seven), this version asks: “What if we did that in ancient Rome… on a Cannon budget… using actors who were already wearing swords-and-sandals for another production?” Starring (and our choice as their Magnificent Seven counterpart):Lou Ferrigno as "Han"—yes, Han. That's what the "H" on his belt stands for. Definitely not Hercules, who Lou was coincidentally played at the same time. (Yul Brynner)Sybil Danning as Julia the most mercenary of the group (Brad Dexter).Brad Harris as Scipio, Han's right Han-d (Steve McQueen).Emilio Messina as Goliath the gentle giant (Charles Bronson).Giovanni Cianfriglia as Festo (We'll go with Robert Vaughn I guess?).Sal Borgese as Glafiro (I swear he throws a knife or something in this, so he'll be James Coburn).Rubert Mura as Vendrix (Horst Buchholz).Carla Ferrigno as Pandora.Yahudi Efroni, earning our coveted 'Whit Bissell' Award as The Emperor.Dan Vadis as Nicerote—the most fashion-forward warlord this side of Humungous or Raven Shaddock. It's Cannon. It's Mattei. In this episode of The Clean Slate Podcast, we're tunneling into one of the greatest war films ever made: The Great Escape. Join us as we dig into the film's incredible true story, iconic performances from Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, and the behind-the-scenes tales that brought this epic to life.
Who carries Charles Bronson's torch in today's action landscape? Bronson carved out a unique space in cinema history with his stoic presence, minimalist acting style, and everyman quality that somehow made his extraordinary feats believable. We dive deep into what made him special – that gritted-teeth delivery, the intimidating presence despite his average stature, and his ability to play essentially the same character across different films while still creating something compelling each time.

Somehow amongst the 19 movies we cover this episode we came up with four distinct themes. None of them intentional. This time we talk recent theatrical release FRIENDSHIP, check out a revenge filled sequel that surpasses the original, watch a giant ape menace London, get down with the dream pairing of Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin, learn all about an ancient idol that makes you horny(?), see a "ripped from the headlines" TV movie that's so very 90's and so much more! Thanks for listening! Cooper and Nolan are back in action this week when they cover DEATH WISH 3! This may be the shortest ever episode of this podcast, but when an extremely large portion of this movie is just Charles Bronson killing punks while thousands of completely ineffective bullets fly his way, how much is there to talk about? Still, the near-total absence of meaningful plot elements and characters doesn't stop the guys from covering college nicknames, criminal defense attorneys sleeping with their clients, and whether being invisible would make you a better police officer (stick around to the end to hear that part). At the end of the day it's a Cannon film starring Charles Bronson, so count on having a good time; this episode (featuring not one but TWO beers from Third Moon Brewing) will leave you wishing there was more.

It's implied in our mandate that we must pitch sequels, even if the two sequels from the Dollars trilogy are nearly perfect and end the series just as you'd want it to end. So that's what we've done. You'll hear which of us was afraid to pitch a sequel for fear it will most likely suck, whether or not we approve of each other's titles and how we devolve into impersonation of Charles Bronson by the end of the episode. In this week's episode it's the debut of 'Cannon Fodder', a recurring series of episodes where I watch a curated selection of films made by schlockmeisters Golan/Globus in the 1980's for their Cannon Film Group, one of the most entertaining production shingles you'll ever hear or see. In Brad's view, he is a man of the people's cinema and I am a high-minded, opinionated cinephile. Duly diagnosed, I agreed to expand my horizons under Brad's careful tutelage. The result is either an epic argument or filled with surprises...or both. Here's a great must-see documentary about the "Go-Go Boys" as they're known. Here's some info about my frequent guest Brad Kane. Watch '10 to Midnight' Here's the Cannon Group's wiki page.

It's a week for tough cops who chafe under the soft libertarian justice system of modern democracy, dammit! And no cop is tougher than Maurizio Merli. Unless it's Charles Bronson, obviously. Bryce swings by to shoot the breeze and a whole heap of scumbag criminals, as we discuss 10 to Midnight (1983), directed by J. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Charles Bronson had to hunt a werewolf and decided to play detective instead of hanging from Torino’s rooftops, “12 to Midnight” is here to answer that question with all the subtlety of a silver bullet to the jaw. Robert Bronzi leans so hard into his Charles Bronson impersonation you half expect him to growl “Don’t pull that stunt on me, pal” at every suspect. His trademark scowl is in full force, but the script seems to recognize that Bronzi can’t quite nail the dialogue—so he just stands there, arms crossed, delivering each line in unintelligible monosyllables until everyone else on screen tries and fails to fill in the blanks. It’s stoicism by requirement, and Bronzi owns it. Plot coherence? Forget it. “12 to Midnight” is a glorious fever dream of mismatched clues, midnight stakeouts that last five minutes, and villains who apparently transform more for the camera than for the storyline. Somehow, this budget brawler doubles as a werewolf vs. detective flick: one moment Bronzi’s trench-coated gumshoe is dusting for prints, the next he’s running down bad guys in a front-end loader. It’s utterly nonsensical—and that’s exactly the point. But oh, the cheesy goodness from the effects department! Clunky prosthetics that wobble when the werewolf snarls, practical blood squibs that spray like party poppers, $1 store eyeballs and an epic moonlit finale complete with teleporting characters and poorly timed howls. If you’re in it for goofy action set pieces and unintentional laughs, “12 to Midnight” delivers a full-throated howl. This is cult cinema at its best—so bad it’s howling good fun.

Send us a textPIGSeason 14 continues serving up second helpings of movies previously covered on TGTPTU with PIG (2021). Jack's flick picked this week pulls from his, Ken's, and then recently added host Thomas's post-Eastwood season CAGE UNCAGED (S4, air date 7/23/21). As established in the original episode, the Nicolas Cage movie is set and shot in Portland, Oregon prior to it burning to the ground just shortly after shooting wrapped; while the city remains in rubble, the movie is remembered by the original hosts (Ken, Jack, Thomas) fondly as a film they returned to theaters post-C19 to watch in-person and honor the memory of the city that was, a place of underground restro markets and fight clubs. Now, nearly 3-1/2 years later, the hosts reconsider their predictions for Cage's career and their responses to the film after watching again at-home. Enjoy Ken, doubled-up NyQuil, and his takes on the flick, including recasting as a Charles Bronson movie, and his quoting Twin Peaks Season 3 (Lynch - rest in power); listen as Jack Letterboxd-checks Ryan about where he was the Summer of 2021; hear for the first time what Portland-area transplant TGTPTU's new and increasingly provisional host Ryan thought of the quiet film; and celebrate with Thomas finding the secret snore-track on the DVD from Multnomah County Library.
