With over a billion creators projected to be active in the next decade, is the traditional distinction between a brand, a publisher, and a creator in need of an updated definition? Agility requires not just reacting to new platforms, but fundamentally rethinking who creates your content and how you build an authentic community around it. It's about moving from a campaign mindset to an ecosystem mindset. Today, we're going to talk about the seismic shift in the media landscape, driven by the explosive growth of the creator economy. We'll explore how the very definition of a creator is evolving from a short-term influencer to a long-term brand builder, and what opportunities and challenges this presents for established brands that are trying to earn and keep their audience's attention. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome, Andrew Perlman, Co-Founder and CEO at Recurrent. About Andrew Perlman Andrew Perlman is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Recurrent. Perlman co-founded the company in 2018 with the acquisition of The Drive. Over a span of three years, he oversaw the acquisition of nearly 25 noteworthy brands, including Task & Purpose, Popular Science, Dwell, and Donut, and in the process, introduced Recurrent as the new parent company for the digital media portfolio. In 2022, Perlman rejoined the organization from his role on the board as the Head of M&A and Corporate Development before he assumed the role of CEO in 2023. Previously, Andrew spent over six years as the Chief Executive Officer of XpresSpa, FORM Holdings, and its predecessor company, Vringo, where he led the overall business operations and strategy as well as capital raising. During his tenure, he also oversaw five acquisitions and the NASDAQ listing of the company. Andrew has also served as Vice President of Business Development at EMI Music, SVP of Music and Digital at Classic Media, and held roles at early mobile content companies. On this episode of Mad Rush, Trisha interviews creator and consultant Libby Amber Shayo (New York University at Buffalo, BFA in acting). Libby shares how she leveraged camp friendships, Facebook groups, and the Accepted Students Weekend to network and meet people in Greek life before committing to college, including hosting a first-night dorm meetup with dozens of girls. She describes joining a sorority during spring recruitment because of credit requirements, choosing a different chapter than her close roommate, and how not having a car helped her build connections across pledge classes through rides and one-on-one time with older sisters. Libby introduces her concept of the “brotherhood of the sisterhood,” explaining how fraternity friendships became a lasting support system—showing up to her theater performances, forming informal “family” ties, and traveling to major life events like her formal 300-person wedding (including a taco station and sombreros). She also recounts her career pivot during COVID after interviews in talent management/casting were canceled, going viral on TikTok with Jewish-mom comedy, running brand and Jewish organization accounts, launching the Schmuck Boys podcast about Jewish dating and identity, and later working in agencies on major snack and wellness brands before going full-time as a creator. Libby explains her event content creation business model—capturing phone-shot footage and delivering b-roll plus an edited reel quickly (often within 24 hours), choreographing TikTok trends at events, and applying the same approach to her own short, five-month engagement wedding planning and related content. The episode closes with where to find her online (LibbyAmberShay) and Trisha's notes on confidence, connection-building, and pre-ordering her upcoming book, The Rush Bible.

For her whole life, Iranian-American actor and activist Nazanin Nour has been calling attention to the distinction between the Islamic Republic – the face of Iran in the news – and the Iranian people. And she's not stopping any time soon. In normal times, Nour hosts Iranian diaspora musicians, comedians, journalists and others on her online show Mehmooni with Nazanin. But since mass protests began in December, she's been using social media to amplify the message of the protesters and call attention to the massacre and disappearances of thousands. She's also calling out others – including news organizations that cover nuclear talks without mention of the government's brutality, social justice activists who are strangely quiet on Iran, and content creators who've taken government-sponsored trips to the country. Making Peace Visible spoke with Nazanin Nour on February 10, 2026. On this episode of What Did We Learn, Josh Brown sits down with Nick Colas and Jessica Rabe of DataTrek Research to discuss why Big Tech has just 12 months to prove AI is worth the cost. Nick breaks down how Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms have dramatically shifted their business models pouring 100% (or more) of cash flow into AI capex as margins are set to decline in 2026. These three companies make up 11% of the S&P 500, and they are not the same high-margin machines they were just a few years ago. Jessica then shows where investors are reallocating capital, comparing the S&P to the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index. With non-U.S. stocks gaining traction, investors have a clear choice: stick with Big Tech's AI bet or look elsewhere. This episode is sponsored by Teucrium. NO RESERVATIONS — Welcome to a new season of The Full Bleed. This year, we're going to be talking to makers and creators, of course, but also more about the business of magazines. Because, let's face it, making a magazine is not easy. It never has been. But we're seeing more and more magazines—in print—out in the world and there's a reason for that. At a time where the digital world is a messy place, and that's being polite, magazines are perfectly positioned as a part of an “analog” wave that is going to become more and more important in the media and in marketing. We open the season with Nathan Thornburgh from Roads & Kingdoms, a media brand that started out as a media brand—stay with me here—with the support of Anthony Bourdain, yes, that one, and then pivoted to becoming a kind of gastronomic tour company with loads of content on their website, and has now published their first magazine. And it won't be their last. Travel, especially these days, is pure analog, a completely human experience. It touches the senses in a way not many things can. Think about Anthony Bourdain's work and you think of how immersed he was everywhere he went. Whether he was writing about the reality of a kitchen or filming a meal of noodles at a roadside stand in Thailand, he was all in. His was a very human-centered media, full of sights and smells and sounds and people. And that's what Roads & Kingdoms will try and replicate. On the page. On every page. — This episode is made possible by our friends at Freeport Press. A production of Magazeum LLC ©2021–2025
