The Grinders are back for the first week of the greatest month of the year, that's right, May! A month so good that Spider-Man's aunt is even shares its name. What makes May so great? Well, there are many answers but few as good as the weather. As the season changes from Spring into Summer, the temperatures rise and the clothes come off. As the temperatures are rising across the country, the attitude is also beginning to heat up. Clothes aren't the only things shed as the American people increasingly become more vocal. The American people want nothing less than to strip this administration of all its ill-gotten power. The Grinders stand with the American people as we push back against a fascist government that seems to be ramping up the atrocities on a weekly basis. Fortunately for the American people, they have video games and the RPGrinders to distract them from the terrible reality. What better way could there be to spend your time hidden in an underground bunker than to listen to all 821 episodes of RPGrinders? If you don't have an underground bunker, then it's time to get your protest kit ready. It's getting warm so don't worry about bundling up but don't forget the umbrella. Make sure to eat first and drink plenty of fluids and be sure to bring extra with you. Most important of all is to download every episode of RPGrinders and don't worry about bringing headphones. Everyone will want to listen as they denounce tyranny. The May flowers are in full bloom so maybe that is Break's excuse for trying to skip this week's news segment. While he was out sniffing flowers Frank, Eric, and gaming world moved on. Maybe Break will use that excuse to get out of work and stay home playing some of these Summer releases: Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 1, Wuchang Fallen Feathers, and an end of Summer release for the highly anticipated Borderlands 4. If the heat starts to get to the American people and they just need a break from the march, then Eric has a couple of movie recommendations to get us back on track. What could be better than one Michael B Jordan? That's right, two! He is back and playing dual roles in the Sinners. MBJ isn't the only one who is back as several Marvel MCU characters return for the next big team-up movie, The Thunderbolts. It wouldn't be RPGrinders if we didn't do the greatest podcast segment known to mankind, the Stinkos. There may never have been a larger Stinko in Grinder history than the fall of democracy in the United States of America. The country will never be the same as some irreparable damage has already been done. Beautiful weather now gives the American people more power to fight back. As this weather warms up the protests against this wannabe dictatorship are only just beginning. Completely unrelated to the weather and political corruption, the Grinders have a brand-new Panic Room. Frank has a devious offer from a malevolent entity. We can't say more without spoiling Frank's demented fun. With all of the oppression and fear mongering by the current administration it can be easy to fall into despair. Fear not, as the warmer weather will inspire more of us to stand up and push back. As we all march against evil in our short-shorts while listening to RPGrinders at full volume, we will see our numbers grow and their power diminish! Our fight against evil has only just begun. Oh, and May is also MY month! Happy Birthday to me! And fuck Trump!
Monitor your blood sugar and watch the motion sensor lasers because we're diving into David Fincher's Panic Room (2002), along with Queerty's Cameron Scheetz. We think this David Fincher "popcorn" flick doesn't get enough respect, particularly for queer leads Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart. Plus: a scary Dwight Yoakam, Leto's cornrows, slow motion set pieces, and the film's troubled production history which includes...Nicole Kidman?! Questions? Comments? Snark? 8 Jahre Devils & Demons.
What's this? Yet ANOTHER movie/series about a married couple who are also spies?!? :o Yes this thriller is about a couple of British spies who both work for the same intelligence agency and apparently there's a dangerous leak which has occurred at this agency. One of them has been tasked with finding out who the leaker is while the OTHER might actually be the prime suspect....uh-oh, could be silly! :POr maybe not as it's written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Panic Room), directed by Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Ocean's 11), and features a top-flight cast of talent including two-time Oscar-nominee Michael Fassbender (Shame, Steve Jobs) and two-time Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, Tar) as the married couple. The cast also includes rising stars Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton) and Marisa Abela (Industry) along with two acclaimed alumni from the James Bond franchise, Pierce Brosnan and Naomi Harris. Sounds intriguing....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

After last week's episode, we wanted to watch another movie starring Jodie Foster, so Sandro picked 2002's Panic Room. Directed by David Fincher, it tells the tale of a home invasion. Our arch nemesis, Jared Leto, teams up with Forest Whittaker to break into Jodie Foster's new home. This leads to Foster hiding with her daughter, Kristen Stewart, in a panic room.Join our Patreon for our bonus episodes! https://www.patreon.com/oldiebutagoodiepodFollow the show!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oldiebutagoodiepod/Facebook: https://fb.me/oldiebutagoodiepodPodcast Platforms: https://linktr.ee/oldiebutagoodiepodGot feedback? Happy New Year and welcome to 2024! A brand new... FUCK. Why does the new year make some of dumber than usual? I don't know but I do know that the Grinders are back. Or at least, they will be. They still have one final episode before they return in 2025. They will be back with more of the insanity of Game Night, the thoughtful conversations of the Driver's Seat, and the fantastical Panic Room. But first, let's flash back... Back to the past. To an ancient time, I like to refer to as 2024. In that distant past the Grinders would start every episode with the latest news. Updates on when those games will join the rest of us in the future. Games like OFF, AI Limit, and Ys vs Trails in the Sky Alternative Sage may have been made in the distant past but will be arriving in 2025. They maybe from a past long forgotten but the Stinkos of history should never be lost. The past is seemingly doomed to repeat itself as Republicans, Democrats, racism, and misogyny never seem to go out of style. Democrats and Republicans worked together to give themselves raises while discriminating against the Trans community. Not to be out done, Disney made sure to spread their own brand of transphobia. Anyone who thinks misogyny and racism are dead, should see how her new (now former) fan base reacts to Caitlin Clark's interview about White Privilege. With the end of 2024 came the final episode of Panic Room. Well, maybe not the final episode but it is the last episode of the year that has long since passed. And it will be a good one, if Break can come up with something before time runs out. In the meantime, the Grinders talk about their favorite games of the year. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stole many hours of Frank's life, and he has no regrets. Break surprised no one by choosing an RTS. And of course, Eric played a ton of JRPGs but only the best made his year-end list. With that, it's time to go back to the future! (Don't sue me!) The Grinders no not what the future will bring but they know they will keep showing up every month to game, complain, argue, laugh, and have a good time. Even if 2025 is a shit sandwich of never-ending stupidity, the Grinders will be back every month and just as crazy as ever! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! TITS!
Before M. Night got his mitts on the "mind blowing twist" category of movie making...there was David Fincher. A man who does it, in our opinion, so much more effectively. From 2002's Panic Room to 2023's The Killer, the guys finish their Fincher Director Spotlight by discussing his movies made after 1999. From Serial Killers to crazy jolted lovers to young billionaire moguls, Fincher movies in the 2000s and on had it all! “I remember feet” The panel of peril very calmly walk into a room, just a normal room mind you, to watch this week's film Panic Room (David Fincher, 2002). Recent divorcee Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart) are house hunting in the affluent brownstones of New York City. Deciding upon a grand, old building – complete with an old service lift, and state of the art panic room – the ladies settle in for the first night in a new home with wine and take out. Little do they know that three armed robbers (Jared Leto, Forest Whitaker and Dwight Yoakam) have designs on something valuable left behind by the previous owners… Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp2kKzrCm44 ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Turns out there's a safe inside the panic room that they want to get to. The panic room that Meg and Sarah are hiding in. Inside the safe? A cool 22 mil in bonds; split three ways, that's mucho moolah for our intrepid ne'er do wells. Can the diabolical trio clear the women out of the safe room, claim the booty, and get away scott free? Or is Meg more resourceful than they bargained for? What did the heck panel think of this week's movie? How in all that is holy can they improve upon the villains' scheme? And which evil schemer will be christened this week's most diabolical? https://bsky.app/profile/diabolicalpod.bsky.social https://twitter.com/diabolicalpod https://www.instagram.com/diabolicalpod/ https://www.facebook.com/diabolicalpod Email diabolicalpod@gmail.com

Ben and Rob lock themselves into ‘Panic Room', David Fincher's box-office sensation starring Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, Forest Whitaker and Jared Leto. Mother and daughter duo Meg and Sarah are forced to hide in a panic room in their house when intruders break in; unfortunately for them, the intruders want something that is hidden inside the room and will stop at nothing to claim it. This film allowed Fincher to calm studios fears in his financial reliability after the box-office failure of ‘Fight Club' whilst flexing his muscles as a technical master behind the camera. So with everything planned to perfection for this single location movie, why did this movie end up taking nearly three years to finish? Is Jodie Foster so excellent that she is always unrelatable? Are Forest Whitaker's roles racist typecasting? And can Ben finally let go of the chip on his shoulder surrounding rich people as protagonists!?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much MUCH more!PLUS! Kevin Tod Haug has always been destined for a career in VFX. From a young age, he analyzed movies and TV series to work out how they were made. He joined the industry and saw it transform from electro-mechanical to digital via movies and TV series, including Tron and Star Trek: The Next Generation. He then became a full VFX supervisor on movies including Fight Club, The Cell, Panic Room, and Quantum of Solace, and pioneered creative VFX shots that allowed cameras to move through tiny spaces or make the unbelievable look real. As the industry shifts once more with AI and virtual production, Kevin talks about his career and how he's managed to catch successive waves of VFX technology from the 1970s to today, sharing how he used new technology to create convincing effects for low-budget Italian war movie Comandante. He shares amusing anecdotes from his career in VFX, from a literal fly in the ointment to an encounter with Prince, and he gives advice on how to stay ahead of the curve.

The Grinders are back for the last time in July. At least, most of the Grinders show up to work. Frank and Eric have to work twice as hard to host the show, since a certain Man is missing. Without the dead weight, a new era of RPGrinders begins. A new show with a new theme. Welcome to the Eric & Frank Show! The regular format of the old Grinders show was good. So why change? The Eric & Frank Show continues the format and starts with the news but now it's better with only two hosts! What could be better? Maybe some of the upcoming game releases? August is right around the corner and with it come the upcoming titles: Castaway and Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony. After August we have an announcement for the Cho Aniki Collection and a November release date for River City Saga: Three Kingdoms Next. With the news out of the way the Erick & Frank Show continues on to talk about the games they have each played before starting the greatest show segment ever created: the Stinkos! Could there be a worse Stinko that the sudden return of Break to ruin the Eric & Frank Show? Probably not. The show was running smoothly until a certain Man returned to Break everything. In fact, he showed up right on time to handle a topic very close to his heart: Jack Black and the D. Even rock music wasn't safe from some of the fallout of the assassination attempt on the life of Donald Trump. Break may hate Trump's guts, but Break feels strongly that every life has value. Break is glad Trump wasn't badly wounded but regrets the lives who were stolen. The attempt on Trump's life has caused much speculation and countless conspiracy theories. The Grinders aren't immune as Break and Frank disagree on what is real and fiction. Was Trump hit by a bullet or was it something else? The disagreement over facts and conspiracy continues into the Sweetos because Break isn't done smashing the show! Everyone agrees that Trump is a threat to our democratic repbulic and that Biden doesn't have a chance to win. Frank sees a golden opportunity. He strongly believes the Joe Biden will drop out of the race but Break doesn't seem to think its possible or feasible... (This show was posted after Biden officially dropped out of the race but the disagreement happened before Biden's announcement. In other words, Frank was right.) Destroying the show doesn't seem to be enough to satisfy Break's love for destruction. The rest of the globe suffers from this horrible Panic Room scenario! The electrical grid is gone for good. 8 billion people will never again have access to electricity. How would the Grinders react to awakening in a world of darkness? How will they survive the Breapokalypse? The Eric & Frank Show was good while it lasted but nothing goes unscathed when a walking natural disaster is around. Break's nature is so destructive that he might bet on Trump to win the election! Just like Break bet Biden wouldn't retire. Or when Break guaranteed that Trump wouldn't get elected in 2016. Or when Break went to Vegas and didn't win any money. Or like every time Break made a football bet with Frank! Wesley Snipes said to "Always bet on Black." But better advice is to bet your money the opposite of Break Man. He is a TERRIBLE gambler. FRANK WAS RIGHT! Now someone put that on a t-shirt.

Our homes are meant to be where we feel the safest, so it makes sense that there's an entire horror movie subgenre dedicated to home invasions. The Strangers, Panic Room, Funny Games, When a Stranger Calls, even Jordan Peele's Us. All those movies play on the innate fear we have that our most peaceful area would be disturbed by those that would do us harm. Unfortunately, there are people out there that would do us harm just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Today, we're finishing one of those stories. This week, we are looking at Panic Room! A fun little caper with Jodi Foster, Kristen Stewart, Forest Whitaker and Jared Leto! Find out why this is an under appreciated gem from David Fincher
For the final episode in our series David Fincher: Rules of the Game, we're taking a look at the story behind his 2007 true crime drama ZODIAC. For his follow-up to the crowd-pleasing popcorn thriller PANIC ROOM, David Fincher went in a far different direction with a meticulously researched look at the investigation into the real life Zodiac Killer murders in northern California in the late 1960s. In this episode, we trace the creation of ZODIAC, from its origins as a true crime book (written by San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist Robert Graysmith, who's portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in the film) through its years in development at different studios, all the way through Fincher's involvement, the filming, and eventual release. Up Next: DONNIE DARKO. UPCOMING LIVE EVENT: Cinema Shock & GutPunch Cinema present Cult Class: DONNIE DARKO. A live screening of Richard Kelly's cult classic, with an introduction by the Cinema Shock Team. FIGHT CLUB had been a grueling shoot for David Fincher and, at least upon first release, had alienated both audiences and critics alike. So when it was time for Fincher to move on to his next film, he sought out something a little simpler, something that wouldn't involve the hundreds of locations that he'd dealt with on FIGHT CLUB and one that was designed as pure entertainment. A "popcorn movie." It should have been simple. Unfortunately, the reality of shooting his next film was anything but easy. It ended up being a difficult shoot for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was Fincher's own inability to be flexible, a hard-earned lesson that he took with him to future projects. In this, the penultimate episode of our David Fincher series, we trace the full production history of PANIC ROOM, from script to screen and beyond. Up Next: David Fincher — Rules of the Game, Part 7: ZODIAC. Theme Song: "There's Still a Little Bit of Time, If We Hurry and I Mean Hurry" by Slasher Film Festival Strategy. After back-to-back successes with SE7EN and THE GAME, David Fincher found himself at the top of Hollywood's A-list, proving that he could produce hit films without abandoning his dark sensibilites. His next project, however, would put his reputation to the test. Although it's now considered a classic — and may very well be Fincher's most widely-seen film — when FIGHT CLUB was released in 1999, it was met with controversy, a negative critical reception, and disappointing box office returns. In this episode, we'll trace the entire history of FIGHT CLUB, from its inception as a novel to Fincher's development of the film and subsequent battles with the studio over the story's content, all the way through its divisive release in the fall of 1999, as well as how its legacy stands today, a quarter century after its initial release. Up Next: David Fincher — Rules of the Game, Part 6: PANIC ROOM. Theme Song: "There's Still a Little Bit of Time, If We Hurry and I Mean Hurry" by Slasher Film Festival Strategy. Brett & Dani are back to recap Survivor 46 episode 6. Moriah and Venus were front and center in this week's merge episode, with Moriah being the unfortunate victim of this week's tribal council. Brett & Dani compare Venus to one iconic Survivor and one iconic Big Brother player of yore. Later, Brett talks about viewing 'The Social Network' and 'Panic Room' at a double feature this week and the interesting place a Facebook movie sits culturally in 2024. Danielle reviews the new Netflix film 'Scoop' & they close discussing the breakup of Isla Fischer & Sacha Baron Cohen, as well as Monday's solar eclipse that will sweep across North America. We had the pleasure of interviewing Silent Planet over Zoom video!Every once in a while, wildflowers will sprout en masse in the middle of the California desert. Known as a “SUPERBLOOM,”this phenomenon paints lush colors across a traditionally arid and barren landscape. The emergence and evolution of Silent Planet mirrors this phenomenon. Since 2009, the California quartet—Garrett Russell [vocals, guitar], Mitchell Stark [guitar], Alex Camerena [drums], and Nick Pocock [bass]—have set themselves apart in the realm of heavy music. Amplifying hypnotic hooks across alternately raw and rich soundscapes steeped in hardcore, post-rock, metal, and ambient textures, the award-winning group has generated tens of millions of streams and earned tastemaker praise. Now, the musicians tell a story as massive as their sound on their aptly titled fifth full-length offering, SUPERBLOOM [Solid State Records].Silent Planet has consistently transfixed a diehard fanbase. The group dropped a string of acclaimed albums, including The Night God Slept [2014], Everything Was Sound [2016], When The End Began [2018], and Iridescent [2021]—which Hysteria hailed as “a vulnerable and emotional LP.” Not to mention, album standout “Trilogy” generated 5.3 million Spotify streams to sit alongside their genre-bending triumph “Panic Room” from the 2016 release, currently at 5 million. The guys notably took home “Best Underground Band” at the 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards and toured with the likes of Motionless In White, August Burns Red, Beartooth, and The Contortionist.Over the course of two years, they recorded what would become SUPERBLOOM in Woodland Hills, CA alongside longtime producer and frequent collaborator Daniel Braunstein. A jarring turn of events split the process into two seasons. Trekking through a Wyoming snowstorm in November 2022, Silent Planet survived a vehicle accident. The van flipped over, leaving the group laying in the wreckage of a bitter Wyoming snowstorm as Garrett was hospitalized with a fractured back and head wound requiring stitches.Along the way, they settled on a conceptual framework, expanding the scope of their vision like never before.Silent Planet initially teased the record with “:Signal:” followed by “Antimatter.” On the latter, spacey electronic transmissions buzz. Pivoting on a dime, it dissolves into a stomping industrial groove offset by synth swells.“It's the conclusion of the story we're telling,” he says. “This is the finale. There are different levels of a close encounter. It's a close encounter of the fifth kind. It's the destination of the music.”In the end, Silent Planet continues to elevate and uplift heavy music to another dimension. We want to hear from you! We're scootin' through some wild Manhattan real estate this week and locking ourselves into David Fincher's PANIC ROOM with the wonderful Eva Anderson! Can you believe that Jodie Foster wasn't even supposed to be in this movie? And that David Fincher was the one who braided Jared Leto's cornrows? Just kidding about that last one. Come for Griffin's formative crush on young Kristen Stewart, stay for the inexplicable amount of talk about “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” - a show that has absolutely nothing to do with this movie.
