Scott Sanders's Black Dynamite  We're finishing out the month of December - two more weeks left in 2025 - and having a great time exploring the world of Cult Cinema and Midnight Movies. This week we take a look at one of the best comedies of the 21st Century . . . a film that should have been exactly the definition of Midnight/Cult Movie. In 2009 Director Scott Sanders and Writer/Star Michael Jai White would unlease Black Dynamite on the moviegoing public. A Spoof/Parody/Love Letter to the "Blaxploitation" films of the 1970s, Black Dynamite was sadly ignored by the majority of moviegoers, however would find an eager and dedicated audience remembering the power of Fred "The Hammer" Williamson, Jim Kelly, Isaac Hayes, and the brilliance of Richard Roundtree and Jim Brown. Willie Dynamite, Three the Hard Way, Black Caesar, Truck Turner, Shaft, Foxy Brown, and Slaughter -  all cited and paid tribute to. Take a listen and let us know what you think of this trip through the History of Blaxploitation, the actors, directors, stories, and racism of the time. It's a fun talk . . . We hope you enjoy it. As always, we can be reached at gondoramos@yahoo.com - Many, Many Thanks.  For those of you who would like to donate to this undying labor of love, you can do so with a contribution at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/watchrickramos - Anything and Everything is appreciated, You Cheap Bastards.

We discuss casting at the edges, protecting a child actor on set, navigating love-it or hate-it reactions, and why they chose a slow, theater-first rollout instead of streaming. Tipper shares the story behind her award-winning short “Wildcard” and plans for the feature. A candid conversation about risk, tone, and keeping creativity sovereign in a numbers-driven industry.Key Topics:• From transgressive comic to cinematic romp• Practical effects, performance under prosthetics• Festival premieres, audience response, review culture• Ethics and logistics when working with a minor• Booking a theater-only release city by city• Tipper's “Wildcard,” music, and making your own path

Mercedes Bryce Morgan unpacks the whirlwind making of Bone Lake, an 18-day Atlanta shoot that battled storms, injuries, and lost gear before completing its night-boat climax on a Los Angeles soundstage. After a Fantastic Fest premiere and Deadline-breaking international sales, the erotic survival thriller heads to U.S. theaters with buzzy audience reactions and a proudly “fun, commercial, popcorn” spirit.Mercedes traces her path from mini DV Star Wars shorts and USC to festival features, describing her taste as a mix of Oldboy's devastation and Amélie's heart. Other past influences include Barbarians, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The House of Yes, Funny Games, and The One I Love. Her TIFF-premiering Fixation (2022) sparked her love for erotic thrillers. On craft, she argues the best twists are guessable seconds before they land, and test screenings help her fine-tune which parts of the mystery viewers might sense without solving it too soon. Her advice to young filmmakers: embrace constraints as boot camp, stick with collaborators who love the work, design for the audience experience, and make sure you enjoy the day-to-day… because the process is the life. What Movies Are You Watching?Introducing the Past Present Feature Film Festival, a new showcase celebrating cinematic storytelling across time. Megaforce From the deepest darkest corners of the 1980s comes a film that most will never have heard of... And for pretty good reason: it's ridiculously cheesy, utterly misogynistic, completely ridiculous and it may well be the reason camping chain Kathmandu is going out of business: because its just THAT camp! But it's Dion's cult cinema choice, and its hard to look past its godawful costumes and insane vehicle designs... But if you do you'll find something quite fascinating: you'll find te core text that informed such properties as G.I.Joe, MASK, The A-Team and in later years Team America: World Police. The movie is called Megaforce and it is the absolute definition of cult cinema. some will love it, many will hate it. but it's sure got something to say. All of the team are here, though some more begrudgingly than others and Peta's "But Why's?" are so numerous and loud, that we though we'd actually broken her. https://youtu.be/3vQEgkyf03o As always, a huge thumbs up with a kiss to those great guys and begrudging gals who join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. And an especially huge thanks to any of the generous motor biking mad-men and buggy driving crazies who are kind enough to support us by smashing a tip in our jar via Ko-Fi, or subscribing on twitch... every bit helps us to keep the bikes fueled up and the skin-tight bodysuits polished.... If you feel so inclined drop us a sub we really love them, The more subby mc-sub-faces we get, the more Emotes You get! https://youtu.be/cvK591moVVo?si=aMjvJ-jlP7e4oP_5 The documentary being made by and for one guy... Bad movies...we've all seen them, be it on late-night TV or as part of a midnight screening or maybe even being riffed on by the guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000 but, why are we drawn to them, what makes some of them cult-favorites and why do we watch them over and over again? Is it purely out of morbid curiosity? Is it simply to make fun of them or is it that these movies serve as an example of how NOT to make a movie? All these questions (and many more) "might" be answered tonight as we, along with long-time friend of the show, Josh Dahlin, talk all about bad movies. “Fair is fair! We didn't start this, we didn't mean it to happen, but we're not giving up until you pay. FAIR IS FAIR!” We watched “The Legend of Billie Jean” with Jesse Krempel, the wonderful host of “Cult Cinema Circle,” and we need to make an appointment with our hairstylist. This often overlooked gem from the 1980s chronicles outlaw teens on the run from the cops, their parents, and a sleazy businessman while going “viral” in a pre-social media world. Billie Jean, played by a drop-dead gorgeous Helen Slater, and her brother Binx (teeny-teen Christian Slater - no relation) run afoul of some local dirtbags who then steal and trash Binx's prize Honda Elite scooter. The stakes are actually sort of low - but it's the principle of the matter which makes Billie Jean and company local folk heroes. In a key moment, Billie Jean chops off her hair after being inspired by Joan of Arc; she is giving us some Vidal Sassoon, Sally Hershberger realness that would make Miss Tyra Banks herself proud. The kids in this movie are so ‘80s it would make the costumers on “Stranger Things” heads spin, and the soundtrack features the absolute BANGER “Invincible” by the legendary Pat Benatar. Stripe kicked us off their platform because apparently showing classic cinema with occasional nudity makes us as risky as selling firearms and dodgy supplements. Who knew? The Great Payment Saga: After trying 35+ different payment solutions and getting rejected for having films containing everything from "strangles" to "berserk" content (seriously, they flagged a family comedy), we're moving to direct debit payments. Take that, censorship!Growing Strong: Despite the payment drama, we've grown 80% in the first six months of this year and were going strongly until we were de-platformed. Not too shabby for an "abusive" platform!Recent Theme Months and Weeks:Satanic September: Hell yeah!Arts-ploitation: When arthouse meets exploitation, featuring heavyweights like Buñuel, Coppola, and LynchThe Jaeckin/Kristel Connection: His name is NOT pronounced Just Jackin'Black November: A diverse collection of films including some fascinating South African B-scheme movies from the 80sComing Up:Estonian Fantasy Week: Including "Arabella the Pirate's Daughter" (think Pippi Longstocking meets pirates)Dirty Docu December: 31 days of "educational" documentaries from the 70s, including the extremely scientific "Sex and Astrology"Apps for big screen viewing are finally coming! Listen as the trio offer a closer look at the politics of ‘cult' as a critical and cultural category; what it means to negotiate obsessive reception and fandom in the analysis of film, and the extent to which cult operates as a type of cinema; the oppositional quality of cult and its uneven relationship to the mainstream; the implied gender politics of the so-called ‘masculinity of cult' and questions of inclusion and exclusion; and the enjoyment of both studying and taking part in the kinds of participatory cultures that have shaped the global canon of cult. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **As featured on Feedspot's 25 Best London Education Podcasts**

Boy do they get high. But 4/20 has another special meaning. On 4/20/1999 two young boys murdered 15 of their classmates with deadly weapons, a crime that would briefly shock the nation! On this episode we aren't getting high (yes we are) but we're "shooting" the shit about a movie called DUCK! Hello, Hello!   In this episode, Chris and Nick talk with filmmakers Dexter Strong Buell and Derek Mindler about their experiences in the indie film space, including Dexter's recent short film "The South Shore" and Derek's work as a cinematographer. They also discuss challenges in filmmaking and education, using new technology like 360 videos for location scouting, and an upcoming film school in New York City focused on below-the-line skills.   We also talk about: - The differences between working on indie film sets versus studio sets - Finding success through creative solutions in the indie film world - Bridging the gap between film education and the current film industry - A student-made feature film that was widely distributed on Amazon Prime after starting as a high school short - The cultural impact of low-budget films that are financially successful but not necessarily well-received critically   Enjoy!   Indie Artist Spotlight   Artist: Steve Lewis    Track: Get You   Recording artist Steve Lewis is a writer and performer who can take a listener to a special place, one where the music transports you and time slips away. While straddling the line between riff rock and melodic lyricism, his material evokes stylists like Kurt Vile and Mac DeMarco while luxuriating in steady grooves and high energy. “Get You” is a high-energy rock tune with a celebratory and conversational lyric about the excitement and optimism of finding a new love.   https://www.stevelewismusic.com/   https://www.instagram.com/stevelewismusic/   https://www.tiktok.com/@stevelewismusic     MAKE IT x Cotton Bureau: https://cottonbureau.com/people/the-make-it-podcast Bonsai Shop: https://www.bonsai.film/shop   Newsletter: https://beacons.ai/themakeitpodcast Listen:  https://link.chtbl.com/makeit - https://link.chtbl.com/makeitonspotify Watch: https://link.chtbl.com/makeitonyoutube?at=1406156285

We are back with another installment in our Cult Cinema Saturday series! This time, we take a look at Stephen King's ONLY directorial feature, Maximum Overdrive, based on his short story "Trucks." Fueled (pun fully intended) by the music of AC/DC, the master of horror claims he's gonna "scare the hell out of you" with this film, but it doesn't quite stick the landing as intended. We still end up with a fun, yet, campy feature length full of great shots, a little gore, and the Green Goblin prominently featured on the front of one of the big rigs, which is the most iconic piece within.
