Her nostalgic, lush and heartfelt voice, Laura Pursell's smooth west coast vocals are backed by the genius of her famous father Bill Pursell, who wrote 8 out of 10 arrangements and played piano on all 10 tracks. The rich orchestration, recorded by Nashville's A-team players. Mr. Pursell is perhaps best known for his hit record "Our Winter Love," but also played piano on many of Johnny Cash's albums in the 1960s, and worked as a session musician and arranger for Patsy Cline, Johnny Paycheck, Hoover, Joan Baez, Eric Andersen, Scotty Moore, J.J. At 18, she was cast as Dick Van Patton's niece in a nationally televised Christmas special, “The Gift of Song”, starring a host of country music stars. Relocating to LA in the early 90's, she studied at the South Coast Repertory and Beverly Hills Playhouse and has starred in countless stage productions all over LA, including "Blue Moon Dancing" by Ed Graczyk, "In the City for the Summer" (Variety singled out her gritty performance), and the farcical, outrageous "And Then There was Nun" which played to sold out houses for 2 extensions, where she did a hilarious sendup of Gloria Swanson. She was a long time member of the Company of Angels, LA's oldest repertory theatre, winning a Dramalogue Award for her saucy, sword-wielding performance in the mainstage production of “Zastrozzi”. She appeared in an iconic video for Weird Al Yankovic, spoofing Tanya Harding in the "Mmmm Mmmm" song (where she did her own figure skating). She appeared in several episodes of "Days of Our Lives" and had a small but pivotal role in "The Landlady" starring Talia Shire. In 2013, she was cast as one of the three leads in a hilarious coming-of-middle-age web series called "Living the Dream", and in 2015, she had the starring role in "Only the Moon Howls", a moving one act which won the Encore! Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her performance was singled out for its "deep emotional access" and hailed as "heartbreaking", "truthful", "sensitive" and "vulnerable". A film version of the piece is planned for late 2015. In 2001, she landed a plum role, singing for Betty and President Gerald Ford in Palm Springs. Over the years, she has recorded and performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians on the west coast. She has performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, Dublin Ireland and in west coast venues such as Spazio, Vitello's, The Money Tree, Barone's, Monteleone's, The San Ysidro Ranch (Santa Barbara), Vicky's of Santa Fe (Palm Springs) and the Canyon Club. She appeared with Gary Tole's "Legends of Swing" orchestra and the Doug MacDonald's 13-piece "Jazz Coalition". Then she discovered that he had been married before and had a 6 year-old son. The couple was soon divorced.“I'll move to a new place and get a new start,” she thought. “Goodbye, New York. Hello, L.A. I'm going to become an actress.”But hopes and dreams are fragile things and hearts are easily broken. At the age of 24 “She decided she'd failed,” says David Wallace, author of Hollywoodland. “She was very dejected and one day in 1932 she came up to the Hollywood sign, found a maintenance ladder by the ‘H,' climbed up to the top and presumably took one last look over the city she had failed to conquer, and jumped.”Her body was discovered two days later by a hiker.A handwritten note was found in her purse. “I am afraid I am a coward. I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain.”A letter arrived at her home on the same day her body was discovered. When Allen Barton steps into the spotlight, the curtain lifts on a world where art and reality intermingle with profound consequences. As a former Scientology actor turned playwright, Barton's narrative "Disconnection" not only mirrors his own journey but resonates with those tethered to or severed from the church. Our reunion with him unveils the stringent world of Scientology's film industry, where we grappled with casting challenges, braved extreme heat, and toiled under a crew burdened by the church's towering demands.Venturing further into the realm of Scientology's influence on Hollywood, we uncover the tumultuous saga of the Beverly Hills Playhouse – an acting school that became a controversial nucleus for church recruitment. The dynamic presence of Scientology in the arts had reverberations, leading to a cultural shift within the church and turbulence in Tinseltown. With candid stories and revelations, Barton highlights the personal betrayals that underscored our respective departures from Scientology, marking a pivotal moment of change. As the conversation unfolds, the peculiarities of Golden Era Productions come to light, from the quest for authenticity in representing L. Ron Hubbard to the emotional resonance of our shared memories. Each chapter of this episode paints a vivid collage of life before, within, and after the church's embrace, offering listeners an intimate glance at the enduring bonds crafted through the crucible of creative expression. Join us on this journey through laughter, nostalgia, and the sobering realities of Scientology's shadow over Hollywood.Support the showBFG Store - http://blownforgood-shop.fourthwall.com/Blown For Good on Audible - https://www.amazon.com/Blown-for-Good-Marc-Headley-audiobook/dp/B07GC6ZKGQ/ref=tmm_aud_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=Blown For Good Website: http://blownforgood.com/PODCAST INFO:Podcast website: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2131160/shareApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/blown-for-good-behind-the-iron-curtain-of-scientology/id1671284503 Spotify: ...

Writing From Grief, Hearing the Truth, and the Need for Validation - Playwright's Spotlight with Brynn Thayer

We've dug into the vaults of Playwright's Spotlight for this episode. Originally recorded on February 8th, 2023, I interviewed playwright Brynn Thayer a few weeks before the world premiere of Let Me In. Unfortunately due to a software update, the audio was unusable and the pod-recorder used for backup was not started on time. Brynn and I tried to find a time to rerecord but were unable to due to schedule conflicts, so I've decided to release the episode without the first six minutes, which I'm glad I decided to do. I think Brynn has encouraging advice and experience that she shares in this episode. We discuss her beginnings as a soap actress and its development toward her playwriting, how she was able to learn character from soaps, her pathway from a one-woman show, to a two-person short film series, and later a full length three-person play. We also touch upon the need of validation, writing from grief, hearing the truth, conflict in questions, wearing all the hats in a production as well as the flaws of a character and writing behavior. We had a lot of fun recording it and wish I would have released it sooner. I would still love to have Brynn in to discuss Let Me In after having experienced it. I hope it makes the rounds, because it's a wonderful piece.Brynn Thayer has been working in the industry since the 1970s. She's been nominated for a Daytime Emmy and wrote and performed her one-woman show, The Eulogy, which the Los Angeles Times called "Sardonic, Funny and Accessible.” She directed, wrote and produced the Worst Day series of short films with her partner Shahaub Roudbari, which toured the festival circuit and won many awards. Her most recent play, Let Me In, played to sold out crowds at Theatre 68 in North Hollywood. To view the video format of this episode, visit -https://youtu.be/W4hG9Rc-kZELinks to sites mentioned in this episode - Beverly Hills Playhouse -https://www.bhplayhouse.com/Lenaea High School Theatre Festival -lenaea.orgHowie Deutsch -https://workspacehollywood.comTheatre 68 -https://www.theatre68.comNew Play Exchange -https://newplayexchange.orgWebsites and socials for James Elden, PMP, and Playwright's Spotlight -Punk Monkey Productions - www.punkmonkeyproductions.comPLAY Noir -www.playnoir.comPLAY Noir Anthology –www.punkmonkeyproductions.com/contact.htmlJames Elden -Twitter - @jameseldensauerIG - @alakardrakeFB - fb.com/jameseldensauerPunk Monkey Productions and PLAY Noir - Twitter - @punkmonkeyprods                  - @playnoirla IG - @punkmonkeyprods       - @playnoir_la FB - fb.com/playnoir        - fb.com/punkmonkeyproductionsPlaywright's Spotlight -Twitter - @wrightlightpod IG - @playwrights_spotlightPlaywriting services through Los Angeles Collegiate Playwrights Festivalwww.losangelescollegiateplaywrightsfestival.com/services.htmlSupport the show

We won't hold his Harvard pedigree against him, for Allen is “fighting the good fight” for freedom of artistic expression in the theatre and broader Hollywood community.Courageously, after Covid shutdowns and being cancelled by many, Allen has kept the esteemed doors of the Beverly Hill Playhouse open, writing on his website (bhplayhouse.com): “At this stage (the physical stage at the BHP), anything goes. Any writer goes. Anything any writer wants to say — they get to say it, the actors get to act it.” The result: The Beverly Hills Playhouse is flourishing.Simply put: Allen is a great advocate for freedom. A short history of Kay: "After graduating in Biochemistry from King's College, London I spent a year in the Max Planck Institut fur Biophysik in Frankfurt, and with 2 published papers in learned scientific journals under my belt, I made the rather unexpected move into market research and advertising (where I stayed for far too long!). By the age of 32 I had been on the board of directors of 2 London ad agencies and a contributor and assistant producer on the BBCTV social history series on advertising and society, “Washes Whiter”. For 2 years in the late 1980s I lived in Venice, California working as a strategist with clients and ad agencies, while also studying improvisation and acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. I have also studied and continue to study drama and dance improvisation with a range of teachers, and have a teaching diploma from Yoga Therapy Ireland. I set up my company, havemorefUnlimited, in 1989, and with the encouragement and support of my clients shifted the focus of my work towards helping people from different backgrounds and cultures to communicate more precisely and clearly. I'm also a faculty member at Modern Elder Academy and LBCWiseCounsel (leadership development for legal professionals). In November 2019 I curated and funded the Turning the Tables conference in West London - where some of the young people whom I've had the good fortune to meet through my voluntary work with refugees, knife crime victims and cancer patients, took to the stage to teach the rest of us how to deal with extreme uncertainty and life changing events. Links to their talks are here. I have created, produced and performed in 3 fringe theatre shows; Never Look in the Mirror When You're Dancing (Dublin and New York), TimeBomb (Dublin) and A Strong and Beautiful Thread (London). The last of these with my business partner and adventure buddy, Dr Paul Loper. I also write and perform standup comedy and science comedy for NerdNite London."

Actor Martin Harris has a supporting role in writer/director David O. Russell's star-studded 1930s murder mystery, Amsterdam from Fox starring Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Timothy Olyphant and Robert DeNiro among other opening in theaters everywhere October 7. He also recently portrayed a Czech police officer in Netflix's edgy international thriller, The Gray Man; he co-starred opposite Colin Firth in The Staircase biographical crime series; he played a German bartender opposite Tony Dalton in the final season of Better Call Saul; and he's one of actor David Harbour's fellow prisoners in a Soviet gulag in the latest season of the acclaimed science fiction series Stranger Things.      A native of Wroclaw, Poland, Martin started his career as an international sportswriter, broadcaster and author, with a specialty in NBA basketball. Not only did he write a best-selling book about the Los Angeles Lakers, but he credits the late Kobe Bryant for giving him the salient advice to follow his dreams and become an actor.      Prior to Bryant's advice, Martin got a quick dose of film history when he became fascinated with a DVD set of the twenty-five best movies of all time. That combined with a passion for James Bond movies and the cinema of Robert De Niro led him to become an actor in Hollywood.     After studying intensely at the Stella Adler Theater and the Beverly Hills Playhouse, Martin began to land gradually larger roles in major television and film productions. These included the part of Lt. Nikolai Zybulski, a primary adversary in TNT's The Last Ship post-apocalyptic series; a Croatian agent in the controversial feature The Hunt; and a prison tower sharpshooter in Red Notice.     When he isn't working in film and television, Martin loves rock music (he once headlined a heavy metal band called Army of Darkness back in Poland), and he also does significant voice work for computer and video games - one of those voices is fan-favorite “Krueger,” the beloved character on Call of Duty.

Gretchen Keskeys' speaking and music ministry began with a prayer.   She was raising her young children and watching the show “Intervention.” As she was hurting for these people who were deep in addiction and self destruction, she noticed they all mostly had the same background: Abused, neglected and somehow abandoned (often through parental alcoholism and drug addiction.) All were looking for value, love, security, peace. She would cry out to Jesus: “Oh if only these people knew You.” One day this turned into an earnest prayer as she knew deep in her heart she could minister to hurting people through her testimony of healing through Jesus Christ.Gretchen asked for God's will and help and He helped her use all her gifts to share her testimony through music and appearances. Gretchen has recorded three full length Christian albums: “Walking in the Spirit,” “Pure Hope” and her latest, “Words of Truth.” God has opened up doors for her to share her testimony and music with the exact people she prayed about. She is a regular worship leader with Prison Fellowship at Folsom Women's Facility at Folsom Prison. She speaks and shares her music at churches, women's conferences and events. She has appeared on Christian TV and radio including: “Babbie's House,” CTN's “It's Time for Herman & Sharron,” Cornerstone Television Network's “Real Life,” CTN's “Bridges,” Dove Broadcasting's “Nite Line,” WATC-TV's “Magnify,” WREG-TV's “Live at 9,” Atlanta Live and “Christian Music Spotlight,” plus prominent radio programs such as “Game Changers with Lisa Faulkner,” “The Long Version with Fletcher Long,” “Kingdom News” and “Debra Evans in the Morning,” “Corner Café Radio,” “Pastor to Pastor” on KFIA AM and many others. Gretchen has a BA Journalism from California State University Sacramento and studied for four years at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. She has worked in television news as an associate producer, news writer and assignment editor at KOVR-TV and as a talk radio producer at KSTE-AM in Sacramento. She has had acting parts in television and commercials and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Gretchen has been married 20 years to her husband Randy who she credits for encouraging and supporting her ministry. He is a lifelong devoted Christian who also serves in ministry. They are blessed by three wonderful children, Ian, Megan and Grace, who is now in college.  Gretchen is passionate about her relationship with Jesus. The gratitude she has for the great healing He has done in her life pours out in the songs she writes and the message she shares. Jesus has healed her mind which was once paralyzed in fear and depression. Since that time thirty years ago, she lives her life in a deep lasting peace and joy in all her circumstances. She sees Jesus continuing to mold her life and she remains humbly in awe of all He has done. –  These are a few of her songs:Don't You Know (who you are child of God,) Then I Met Jesus, The Hope of Heaven

This week our guests are Andrea Geones and Michael Laskin. Andrea and Michael teamed up to create a code of ethics for acting classes with one goal in mind: to create a safe and healthy environment for actors. After experiencing the unhealthy and cult-like culture fostered within many acting classes where sexual, financial, and psychological abuse were the norm, they created https://www.findyouractingclass.com/ and wrote a code of conduct for acting teachers to agree to and endorse, as well as guidelines to help teachers ensure that they are running their classes ethically. Andrea is a Los Angeles native. In addition to acting and piano, she has studied singing, guitar, and flute. She currently is in school earning a b.s. in nutritional sciences while she pursues her career in acting. She also is a freelance writer for online publications, including where she originally wrote about the cult-like atmosphere of acting classes. You can find her article here: https://www.wordsbetweencoasts.com/actors-beware-you-may-be-in-a-cult/ Michael Laskin has been a working actor for over 40 years, across all platforms: film, theatre, and television. Twelve years ago he started The Michael Laskin Studio, an acting studio in Los Angeles. His book, “The Authentic Actor - the Art and Business of Being Yourself” has been praised as a fresh, newly examined, and non-dogmatic approach to the work and the life of an actor. In part one of Rachel's discussion with Andrea and Michael, The actors share their respective experiences and explain what led them to create their unique code of ethics. Andrea explores the link between Scientology and the Beverly Hills Playhouse and the origin of certain cult-like techniques in acting. Michael explains the abuse inherent in the pedagogy of some acting teachers and gives his perspective on a healthy teacher-student relationship. Before You Go: Rachel explains how important a code of ethics can be in any industry, how it helps both teachers and students alike, and the dangers that exist when no support or oversight is available in a group. In this exclusive interview, Gretchen Keskeys’ shares how her music ministry began with a prayer. She would cry out to Jesus: “Oh if only these people knew You.” One day this turned into an earnest prayer as she knew deep in her heart she could minister to hurting people through her testimony of healing through Jesus Christ. Gretchen asked for God’s will & help and He helped her use all her gifts to share her testimony through music and appearances. Gretchen has recorded three full length Christian albums: “Walking in the Spirit,” “Pure Hope” and her latest, “Words of Truth.” God has opened up doors for her to share her testimony and music with the exact people she prayed about. She is a regular worship leader with Prison Fellowship at Folsom Women’s Facility at Folsom Prison. She speaks and shares her music at churches, women’s conferences and events. She has appeared on Christian TV and radio including: “Babbie’s House,” CTN’s “It’s Time for Herman & Sharron,” Cornerstone Television Network’s “Real Life,” CTN’s “Bridges,” Dove Broadcasting’s “Nite Line,” WATC-TV’s “Magnify,” WREG-TV’s “Live at 9,” Atlanta Live and “Christian Music Spotlight,” plus prominent radio programs such as “Game Changers with Lisa Faulkner,” “The Long Version with Fletcher Long,” “Kingdom News” and “Debra Evans in the Morning,” “Corner Café Radio,” “Pastor to Pastor” on KFIA AM and many others. Gretchen has a BA in Journalism from California State University Sacramento and studied for four years at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Together they homeschool their teenagers Ian and Megan and also their daughter Grace who is now in college.

Marco Kyris was born Evrimahos Kyriakakis in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Oct 14th, 1961. His parents were both Greek immigrants who met through an arranged marriage in 1958. His father owned and managed a Greek variety store while his mother was a homemaker. Marco Kyris, along with his two siblings, were raised in a non-english speaking home. At an early age, Marco recognized his disparate social and cultural status through American pop television and culture. Failing in school, he adopted an entertainer's persona and began thinking of a life as an actor. After his sojourn in Paris during his early 20's, he moved to LA and began studying acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. He landed a few bit parts, but worked primarily in the restaurant industry. He returned to Toronto in the early 90's. He was waitering and receiving work through an extras agency when he was asked to stand in for actor Nicolas Cage on the film "Trapped in Paradise". Eban's son, Emmittt and the Cooke's daughter, Ava, have died. They were in a horrible car accident. The two victims are young, 19 and 20. The Cookes do not know Emmitt; however both Eban and his son, Evan (Eric Reid), know Ava, Emmitt's girlfriend. Both Emmitt and Ava are visual artists, one black, the other white. While race is certainly an element in the work, what is more explored is the nature of grief and loss and how one articulates this when it is still inexplicable. When Eban returns to the Cooke home after their daughter's funeral, he asks a favor. It is this favor that brings into the forefront, hidden prejudices and denial. Excellently portrayed by the cast, we are pleased to invite them to the show this morning to talk about Hoffman's "Emmitt & Ava."

It's a Magnum P.I. Reunion! Tom Selleck Joins the Show!Thomas William "Tom" Selleck (born January 29, 1945) is an American actor and film producer. He is best known for his starring role as the private investigator Thomas Magnum in the television series Magnum, P.I. (1980 to 1988), based in Hawaii. He also plays Police Chief Jesse Stone in a series of made-for-TV movies based on Robert B. Parker novels. Since 2010, he has appeared as NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in the drama Blue Bloods on CBS-TV.Selleck has appeared in more than fifty film and television roles since his initial success with Magnum, P.I., including a co-starring role in the highest-grossing movie of 1987, Three Men and a Baby; Quigley Down Under; Mr. Baseball; and Lassiter, to name a few. Selleck has also appeared as Dr. Richard Burke on Friends, where he played the on-again, off-again love-interest of Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), and A.J. Cooper on Las Vegas.Early lifeSelleck was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Martha S. (née Jagger), a housewife, and Robert Dean Selleck (died 2001), who was an executive and real estate investor. His father was of English and distant German ancestry, and his mother was of English descent. Selleck's family moved to Sherman Oaks, California, during his childhood. Tom's siblings include brother Robert (born 1944), sister Martha (born 1953) and brother Daniel (born 1955). Selleck graduated from Grant High School, in 1962.Along with modeling, Selleck attended the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship where he played for the USC Trojans men's basketball team. He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and a member of the Trojan Knights. While he majored in business administration, a drama coach suggested Selleck try acting. He then studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, under Milton Katselas.Selleck served as a soldier in the 160th Infantry Regiment of the California Army National Guard and his unit was activated for the Watts Riots in Los Angeles.CareerEarly work and Magnum P.I.Selleck's first TV appearance was as a college senior on The Dating Game in 1965, and again in 1967. Soon after, he appeared in commercials for products such as Pepsi-Cola.He began his career with bit parts in smaller movies, including Myra Breckinridge and The Seven Minutes. He also appeared in number of TV series, mini-series and TV movies. Selleck also had a recurring role in the 1970s as "too good to be true" private investigator Lance White in The Rockford Files. Lance was very trusting and always lucky, much to the annoyance of Jim Rockford, the show's star private eye played by James Garner. White would frequently say to Rockford, "Don't worry Jim, clues will turn up" and then a clue would just turn up, much to Rockford's consternation, for whom obtaining clues required hard work and hard knocks. Selleck's character was based on one played in Garner's earlier TV series Maverick (1957) by Wayde Preston in the episode "The Saga of Waco Williams".Selleck, an accessible but relatively untested actor, spent years receiving little interest from the entertainment industry. His big break came when he was cast in the lead role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I.. The producers would not release the actor for other projects, so Selleck had to pass on the equally enticing film project for the role of Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark", which then went to rising star Harrison Ford. The choice between the roles of Indiana Jones and Magnum actually haunted Selleck so much that before making the decision, he consulted his best friend on what to do. Together they came to the conclusion taking the high road and honoring the first contract with Universal Studios was the career-savvy direction. It turned out shooting of the pilot for Magnum was delayed for over six months by a writers' strike, which would have enabled him to complete "Raiders".FilmSelleck starred in the 1979 TV movie Concrete Cowboys with Jerry Reed. He starred in a number of film roles during and after Magnum; among the most notable were as an acrophobic police detective in Runaway; as a stand-in father in Three Men and a Baby; and as an American 19th century sharpshooter in the Australian western Quigley Down Under – a role and film that he considers one of his best. His other films include Three Men and a Little Lady; High Road to China; Lassiter; Coma; Her Alibi; An Innocent Man; Folks!; Christopher Columbus: The Discovery; Mr. Baseball; In & Out and The Love Letter.Selleck is an avid outdoorsman, and a marksman and knowledgeable firearms collector. These interests led him to leading-man cowboy roles in Western films, starting with his role as cowboy and frontier marshal Orrin Sackett in the 1979 film The Sacketts, opposite Sam Elliott, Jeff Osterhage, and Western legendsGlenn Ford and Ben Johnson. He followed The Sacketts with The Shadow Riders in 1982, then portraying a cat burglar in 1930s London in Lassiter in 1984.Quigley Down Under is probably one of his best known Western films, however he also won a "Western Heritage Award" for his 1997 role in Last Stand at Sabre River. His last two cowboy roles to date were in the 2001 TNT movie Crossfire Trail (based on a Louis L'Amour novel of the same name), and the 2003 motion picture Monte Walsh. He most recently appeared in the film Killers, along with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher.TelevisionMagnum P.I.Selleck played the role of Thomas Magnum in 1980 after six failed TV pilots. Magnum was a former U.S. Navy Officer, a veteran of a special operations unit in the Vietnam War, who had resigned his commission with the Office of Naval Intelligence and become a private investigator living in Hawaii. The show would go on for eight seasons and 162 episodes until 1988, winning him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1984. Selleck was famous for his mustache, a Hawaiian-style aloha shirt, a Detroit Tigers baseball cap, and the Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP Caliber pistol his character carried. Magnum drove a Ferrari 308GTSi in the series. The model became so identified with the role that Ferrari fans now refer to the red-painted model as a "Magnum" Ferrari.Selleck has confirmed that he is the most popular choice by fans to play the role of Magnum in the rumoured upcoming Magnum P.I. movie.FriendsIn the late nineties, Selleck played the role of Richard Burke, Monica's boyfriend, at the end of the second season of the hugely successful TV series Friends. Richard was a divorced ophthalmologist who was a friend of Monica's parents, and at first the relationship was hidden from her parents. The relationship eventually ended over Richard's reluctance to commit to raising a family, though Selleck did make a few extra appearances in later shows. The CloserIn February 1998, Selleck accepted the lead role in a sitcom for CBS called The Closer. In it he played Jack McLaren, a legendary publicist heading up a brand new marketing firm. His costars included Ed Asner, David Krumholtz, and Penelope Ann Miller. Despite the high pedigree, and the expectations for his first series since Magnum, P. I., low ratings caused the show to be canceled after ten episodes.Jesse Stone seriesSince 2005, Selleck has starred in the role of transplanted lawman Jesse Stone in a series of made-for-TV movies based on Robert B. Parker's novels. To date, the series comprises eight films, with the most recent released on May 20, 2012. In addition to his portrayal of the films' protagonist, Selleck now also acts as producer for the series. The fifth film, Jesse Stone: Thin Ice, was not adapted from Parker's novels, but rather an original story by Selleck.Las VegasHe joined the cast of the NBC drama Las Vegas in the season-five premiere on September 28, 2007. He played A.J. Cooper, the new owner of the Montecito Casino. He replaced James Caanwho left the cast in the same episode. This was Selleck's first regular role on a drama show since he played Thomas Magnum on Magnum, P.I..Blue BloodsBlue Bloods is an American police procedural/drama series on CBS, filmed on location in New York City. Frank Reagan (Selleck) is the Police Commissioner; the series follows the Reagan family of police officers with the New York City Police Department. The show premiered on September 24, 2010.Other workSelleck has also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies in recent years. In particular, he has sought to help bring back to popularity the western, often playing one of that genre's typical characters but thrust into a modern context.Selleck was offered the lead role of Mitch Buchannon in Baywatch, but turned down the role because he did not want to be seen as a sex symbol. The role eventually went to David Hasselhoff.Surprising many of his fans, Selleck unexpectedly played the role of General Dwight D. Eisenhower in A&E's 2004 made-for-TV movie Ike: Countdown to D-Day. The movie showed the planning, politics, and preparation for the 1944 Invasion of Normandy, and Selleck was critically lauded for playing a cool, calm Eisenhower.Selleck appeared in a recurring role on the acclaimed ABC drama Boston Legal as Ivan Tiggs—the troubled ex-husband of Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen)—and as novelist Robert B. Parker's character Jesse Stone in several CBS made-for-TV movies, earning a 2007 Emmy nomination for Jesse Stone: Sea Change.BroadwayIn 2001, Selleck played the lead role of Murray in a Broadway revival of Herb Gardner's comedic play A Thousand Clowns. It ran for only two months. Critics, though far from uniformly negative about Selleck's performance, generally compared it unfavorably to that of Jason Robards, Jr., who won awards in the 1960s for playing the character on the stage and in a movie version. (It remains the role with which Robards is most identified.) Playwright Gardner, however, actually preferred Selleck to Robards in the part, and even said that Selleck was the way he had always envisioned Murray.

A North Carolina native, Anthony grew up with the desire to act from an early age. His college years were interrupted by some harrowing twists and turns, but Anthony graduated from East Carolina University in 1992 with a BFA in Communication Arts. In 1993, he drove west with a friend to Los Angeles where he slept on the floor of his high school friend, Keith Coulouris' apartment in Studio City, CA. Keith was instrumental in Anthony getting a bit part in, Dead Man's Revenge, a USA network movie of the week, starring Bruce Dern, Michael Ironside and Vondie Curtis-Hall.  Upon realizing the high cost of living in LA, Anthony returned to the East Coast, to study, as he had no business on a film set without formal training. He spent just shy of two years in Atlanta, taking classes and auditioning, before his then agent, Ted Borden urged him to make the big move to Manhattan to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. In 1995, Anthony did just that. He lived in a NYU dorm with a student he met on his flight to New York after the living situation he had arranged prior to the move fell apart upon his arrival. The front door to the apartment that he was to be staying in had been kicked in and the tenants robbed the night before. He ended up bouncing between apartments on the Upper East and West Sides of the city for a few years. Concurrent to his studies at Strasberg Anthony studied privately with acting coaches Michael Margotta and Geoffrey Horne.  While performing off-off Broadway in numerous black box theaters, Anthony met Lamya Jezek in 1997. Two years later, upon her graduation from NYU's Tisch School for Acting, the newly engaged couple moved to Los Angeles as Lamya had secured representation. They were married July 14, 2001, in North Carolina. In LA, Anthony studied with Milton Katselas at The Beverly Hills Playhouse and later took classes with Lesly Kahn in the Hollywood Hills, but found that the best training of all, was working on sets with other actors. He had the privilege of working with Academy Award Nominated actor, Edward Norton for nine years on several films as well as Academy Award Winner, Billy Bob Thornton on four films. Anthony maintains a number of relationships in NY and LA, but chose to leave the city life to return to his Southern roots to raise his family. Anthony and his family have resided on the East Coast since 2008 where he has been blessed beyond his wildest dreams by being able to work consistently in film and television as a character actor. Some of the highlights of Anthony's career have been working with some of Hollywood's most celebrated actors. He has had roles on both the small and big screens. On television Anthony has made appearances on “Homeland,” opposite Damien Lewis, “Revenge,” “Nashville” and “The Red Road,” opposite Martin Henderson and Jason Momoa. Anthony can be seen in the upcoming USA drama “Complications” opposite Jason O'Mara. He has feature film roles in “The Hunger Games” opposite Jennifer Lawrence, “Iron Man 3,” “Prisoners” opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. Anthony will be seen in the upcoming films, “Cell,” opposite John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, “Project Almanac,” and the new reboot of Marvel's “Fantastic Four” franchise opposite Tim Blake Nelson. Anthony wrote and produced a short film entitled “Times Like Dying,” a post Civil War drama that recently World Premiered at the Cucalorus Film Festival. “Times Like Dying” is currently making the film festival rounds.

More recitals and more costumes and more applause. But it still wasn’t enough. At the age of nine she started mainlining theater. Drama-rama, Baby! Monique did all the recitals and plays and talent contests that she could. Monique's poor family could hardly keep up with her, so after many years they finally staged (forgive the pun) an intervention. AKA: high school. For a time in her teen years, Monique managed to put aside her addiction for more “normal” pursuits - boys, rebelling against authority, boys - that sort of thing. Oh, did we mention boys? After high school, Monique attended Alan Hancock College (great theater dept.). Big Mistake. She thought she could just take a few theater and dance classes while she figured out what to do with her life. What Monique figured out was that acting was her life. So the only thing left to do was pack up her bags, move to Hollywood and be a big star! Or as it turns out, move to Los Angeles, study acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, go on lots of auditions, work a lot of 16 hour days and become a little bitty star. For now... Stay tuned as the drama continues to unfold!
