Minute Eighty: From Friends at the Door to Heimdall at the Door Joining us to discuss a room full of surprises when the Warriors Three and Sif show up at the door to Smith Motors is Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie. In the eightieth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... Erik tells Jane she needs hard evidence, and hard evidence shows up at the door in the form of the Warriors Three and Sif. It's goofy but fun. But how did they find the place? Perhaps Volstagg figured it out from the spy gear on the roof across the way. To that end, it would've been great to give him that moment. There's such delight on the faces of the Asgardians. Even Hogun the Grim is smiling. And Sif is waving like a silly school girl. This again makes us want to see that Asgardian high school show. Thor reunites with his Asgardian friends and they're all thrilled to see each other, but Thor's a real mood killer bringing up his dead dad and how he can't go back. It's the moment when Sif tells him that Odin lives that Chris Hemsworth shines as a performer as we see so many thoughts and emotions play across his face as he realizes what Loki's done. It's a great moment and we celebrate it. So what was their plan here? Were they hoping Thor could just swing Mjølnir around and somehow get them back? Knowing what Heimdall said as they were leaving that he has to follow the king's orders, was there any thought that Heimdall wouldn't be opening Bifrost back up for them? To that end, why no comments about where Mjølnir is or why he's dressed the way he is? They didn't see him get stripped of rank and outfit or Mjølnir, after all. The minute ends with Heimdall stoically standing guard at the door to the Himinbjorg. Heimdall stands at the door to Himinbjorg, his observatory. Very stoic. He's gotta know Loki's coming. Does he know Loki's also bringing the Destroyer? Even though we don't get much here, it's a cool shot. It's a minute of reunions for old friends and reveals of Loki's deceptions with Miles and Elisabeth. Tune in! Minute Seventy-Nine: From Two Secret Agents to One Doubting Thomas Joining us to dig into the arrival of the Warriors Three and Sif – for the Renaissance Fair? – in the small town of Puente Antiguo are Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie from the podcast Thor: The Lightning and the Storm. In the seventy-ninth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... We meet Agents Cale and Garrett working covertly across from Smith Motors on the roof eavesdropping on Thor and the Scientists Three. We play the IMDb game with the actors playing these roles. There's also discussion about the extended bit with them in the deleted scene where they're talking about the eggs Thor makes. It's kinda funny. Loki sets the Destroyer loose to send to Midgard and destroy Thor. Did Loki have this in the back of his mind all this time? Seems like a brutal way to take out his brother. What pushed him to take this turn? How well does the Destroyer understand commands like this? Loki's commands seem awfully emotion-driven and very broad. Or is there a sense here that part of this is he's working to gain his mental connection to it like in the comics? The Warriors Three and Sif arrive in Puente Antiguo. There are some comedic beats here as this group arrives in town and walks through it looking for Thor while everyone gapes at them. Yes, they do look like they're here for a Renaissance Fair. But do their weapons and outfits need to look so artificial? Or is there something there that hints at their being from another Realm? We discuss the deleted scene which includes several additional bits. The first of which, which we all really like, is Volstagg lifting a car to get a baseball some kids threw. This scene would've added to his character in a wonderful way, giving us a sense of who he is. It also would've helped clarify that the Asgardians, in fact, do have superhuman strength when not broken by Odin's spell. That would've enhanced the fight with the Destroyer. The second part is the Warriors Three and Sif talking about the last time they were on Midgard 1,000 years ago. So that would've been 1011, 46 years after Odin's battle with the Jotuns in Norway. So how old are these characters exactly? And in relation to Thor and Loki? The last bit is Volstagg separating from the group because he smells something tasty. As it turns out, it's the Burger King product placement Agents Cale and Garrett are eating on the roof. It's a silly scene and again focuses on Volstagg's appetite. It's a bit much. But this is why the scene we do get of the four Asgardians marching up Main Street is actually a composite shot with Volstagg digitally added in walking ahead of his friends. And why the Agents on the roof don't give Volstagg a nickname when they call it in. The minute ends with Erik doubting Jane's research yet again. Sheesh. It's the Renaissance Fair! Oh, no, wait—it's us talking with Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie about the townies' reactions to the Asgardians in this minute. Tune in! Minute Seventy-Eight: From Loki Watching the Bifrost to Thor Delivering Breakfast Joining us to discuss a busy minute with Loki, the Warriors Three & Sif, and Agent Coulson & his SHIELD agents, all while Thor and Jane make breakfast, are Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie from the podcast Thor: The Lightning and the Storm. In the seventy-eighth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... So the Warriors Three and Sif take the Bifrost to Midgard, and lo and behold! Loki's watching. But that begs the question – how long has Loki been standing on his balcony waiting to see Bifrost open up? Is Heimdall watching Loki watch the Bifrost? The Warriors Three and Sif arrive on Midgard It looks like the same spot where Thor arrived, so is this really the local Bifrost junction? Turns out SHIELD notices them arrive, and they now have handy computer modeling programs to show it. So do they know it's some form of wormhole travel happening here? Agent Coulson sure doesn't have many questions. He's raring to go out to the desert to investigate. With everyone else is so busy, Thor and Jane make breakfast. It's a very quiet moment – maybe the quietest in the film? – as Thor and Jane make breakfast for a hung over Erik and smiling Darcy. When did Thor learn to make breakfast? What do we think of the deleted scene where Thor delivers a new mug to Isabela to replace the one he broke? So many things are put into action in this minute – must be nearing act three – and Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie are here for it. Tune in! Minute Seventy-Seven: From The Plan to The Bifrost Joining us to discuss Hogun's words, the decision the Warriors Three and Sif make, Heimdall's reaction, and the Observatory kicking into high gear are once again Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie from the podcast Thor: The Lightning and the Storm. In the seventy-seventh minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor… Was it meant to be a moment of comedy between Sif and Hogun the Grim? Or did Sif have a different plan than Hogun? Regardless, the moment plays in a comedic way. There's also the fact that Hogun speaks again. Is that why everyone turns to him suddenly when he speaks? Could it be that they're surprised to hear from the Vanir that he feels they need to lay their lives down for the Asgardian prince? We pine for the lack of facial hair on Hogun. And where is all of their fantastic headgear? We discuss Hogun from the comics a bit as well. And we point out that they cast the actor who played Genghis Khan in the film Mongol to play Hogun, which seems to fit his look in the comics. Fandral seems to be the one more focused on following orders. To that end, it certainly fits the single traits they're each given. Fandral came close to death on Jotunheim. We wonder why we don't get any acknowledgement in this scene from him that it may be affecting his decisions here. Sif says Thor would do the same for them. But didn't he ignore their pleas on Jotunheim to leave? Or is it that she means he'd break the rules for them? We comment again on how much we'd love to see the Asgardian high school show to see all of these characters when young. Heimdall's been watching as it turns out. What rank is Heimdall as it concerns the Warriors Three and Sif? Are they on the same level? Does Loki as king change that? Again, we love Idris Elba in the role, even if he doesn't get to do much. We dig into Heimdall a bit more from the comics as well. We wonder why Heimdall does his strange fake-out things so often in this film. There certainly is an element of a dangerous game that Heimdall plays with them here as far as his loyalties because he's essentially committing treason as they are. It's a fun minute with Volstagg, Fandral, Hogun the Grim, Sif, Heimdall, Miles, and Elisabeth. Tune in! Minute Seventy-Six: From Drawing Yggdrasil to Stress Eating Joining us to chat more about Thor's attempt at drawing and explaining the Nine Realms, as well as Fandral's yelling at Volstagg about his stress eating are Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie from the podcast Thor: The Lightning and the Storm. In the seventy-sixth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... We're closing out the RomCom rooftop art session between Thor and Jane. There's also a production code tried-and-true transition to the moon, then see the two of them sleeping next to each other. We discuss how far they went or not. Have people in Asgard ever seen a romantic Thor before? This really may be Thor's first time to explore this side of himself. How interesting to see them so chaste in their sleeping on the roof. We debate about the Nine Realms some more because there's always more time for this. To that end, there's plenty of room for inconsistency in the comics, so it almost makes sense that there's a continued inconsistency in the films as well Patrick Doyle's romantic theme continues here and we continue our adoration for it. To that end, we're fans of romance in the MCU and wish there was more. Yggdrasil comes up again, this time talking about literal versus metaphor versus thematics. But does Thor get any of the positions of the realms correct within Yggdrasil? And does it matter? What is Thor thanking Jane for? We discuss possibilities. Time to return to Asgard into the Healing Room. We debate why Branagh decided to cut into this scene with a shot of the pattern on the floor that then tilts up. Volstagg does some serious stress eating. Should Fandral be so demeaning to Volstagg about it? To that end, it's really not fun to watch Volstagg eat the way he does. It's... disgusting. Plus, you have a beard! Has no one taught you eating etiquette? We debate the strengths and weaknesses of the Warriors Three. Could the filmmakers have done more with them to make them more interesting characters? By simplifying them to single traits each, how much does that diminish them? And is that why they're completely written out by now? We comment how Volstagg may be less a dwarf archetype and more of a dwobbit. Our guests bring perspective on the Warriors Three and Sif from the comics, and it makes us really wish we had better from them. The god's eye view shot... does this signify that Heimdall is watching them? It's the end of the romantic scene (but not the end of the romance!) and some fighting in the Healing Room (if only it had been the War Room!). Miles Stokes and Elisabeth Allie are here for all of it. Tune in! Join the conversation with movie lovers from around the world on The Next Reel's Discord channel!
