Let’s dive in! The Cancellation of Baldur’s Gate 4 The gaming community was recently hit with disappointing news: Baldur’s Gate 4 has been officially canceled. This decision comes after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, which, while visually stunning, failed to capture the magic of the original titles. For many gamers, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 are iconic, setting foundational standards for RPGs. Why Was Baldur’s Gate 4 Canceled? Lack of Player Engagement: Despite its hype, Baldur’s Gate 3 didn't reignite the passion for the franchise like its predecessors. Many players felt it focused too much on graphics at the expense of gameplay depth. Shifts in Development Focus: The team behind Baldur’s Gate has shifted resources to other projects, leading to the decision to cancel the sequel. Community Feedback: Developers often rely on community feedback, and the mixed reviews for Baldur’s Gate 3 likely influenced this decision. A Tribute to Tom Kane In a somber turn of events, the gaming and sci-fi communities mourn the passing of Tom Kane, a talented voice actor known for his roles in iconic franchises, including Star Wars. Kane brought to life several characters, including Jedi Master Yoda and Magneto, and his contributions to the industry will not be forgotten. Remembering Tom Kane Versatile Talent: Kane’s ability to adapt his voice for different characters made him a favorite among fans. Legacy in Voice Acting: His work in series like The Clone Wars and various video games has left a lasting impact on the industry. Community Reaction: Fans and colleagues alike have shared tributes, celebrating his life and career. The Return of Conan the Barbarian On a brighter note, the legendary Conan the Barbarian is making a comeback! A new film is set to be released, stirring excitement among fans of the franchise. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who famously played Conan in the original film, may return in some capacity. What to Expect from the New Film Sequel or Remake? While details are still scarce, it's rumored that the new film could be a sequel, possibly featuring an older Conan passing the torch to a new generation. Production Team: The involvement of experienced filmmakers is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the classic tale. Cultural Impact: Conan’s enduring legacy in the fantasy genre highlights the character’s significance, making this film highly anticipated. Conclusion In this post, we've explored the latest updates from the gaming and sci-fi worlds, including the unfortunate cancellation of Baldur’s Gate 4, a tribute to the late Tom Kane, and the exciting return of Conan the Barbarian. These stories remind us of the ever-evolving nature of our favorite genres. Key Takeaways Baldur’s Gate 4 has been canceled due to mixed reviews and development shifts. Tom Kane’s legacy as a voice actor will be cherished in the community. A new Conan the Barbarian film is on the horizon, promising to excite fans. One doesn't immediately connect The Beatles with the world of comic books but there's plenty there. Besides musical references to Captain Marvel and “Magneto and Titanium Man,” the group themselves have been regularly represented in the pages of comic books, beginning in 1964; sometimes as plot figures. Then we also have graphic novels and latter-day accounts of their history. To lead *me* in a discussion, SATB welcomes two award-winners from the world of comics, both of whom once worked for Marvel. Emmy-winning cartoonist Stephen DeStefano has been connected with works ranging from Popeye to Cuphead as well as his own ‘Mazing Man and Hero Hotline. He also hosts a conversation show on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@S.DeStefano Glenn Greenberg (a previous guest) is a writer associated with Spider Man, Silver Surfer and Hulk, among others. He has also penned works for the Star Trek book series. He also has written several Beatles-related bookazines, with a new one about to be published. Together, they make the case for the affinity for this art form the Beatles demonstrably had, as well as how well (or not) they have been represented in works ranging from Marvel's 1978 The Beatles' Story to the more recent Fifth Beatle and Fab4Mania. This episode is brought to you by DistroKid and Magical Mystery Camp.
"You are a fool, Sinister! The most powerful mutants on Earth shall hunt you down to see Charles Xavier avenged!" And with this 2-part season finale, another 13 episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series are in the books! On paper, it's a pretty straightforward, conventional affair, serving as a wrap-up to Professor Xavier and Magneto's exile in the Savage Land and a bookend to the season opener starring Mr. Sinister as the show's new major villain. There's a bit of questionable storytelling as well, on the basis of some circular login at its core. Sinister lured Magneto and Xavier to the Savage Land, and in turn used the latter to bait the X-Men into his clutches as well. Which would be fine enough (albeit convoluted), if not for the fact that he already successfully captured Cyclops and Jean Grey in the season premiere and dismissed the other X-Men as beneath his care or attention. And while his motives could have evolved, the plan was already in motion to send the Professor and Magneto off to the Savage Land from the first episode of the season. Nevertheless, this finale patches over what should be a gaping plot hole through its sheer energy and commitment. What it does do well, it does very, VERY well. As a testament to the show's effectiveness in endearing its cast to the audience, several characters get big moments throughout. From Cyclops making good on his earlier threat to Sinister, to Wolverine's "Die Hard" meets "Jurassic Park" solo run through the Savage Land, to Morph's redemption after a return from (near) death, it's an impressive undertaking that all of this lands in an already stacked pair of episodes. Perhaps most memorable is Gambit and Rogue's declaration of love under less than ideal circumstances. Their first kiss manages to be powerful and convincing thanks to two seasons worth of a slow burn love story growing from mild flirtation to genuine affection, with our understanding of both characters informed by revelations about their tumultuous backstories. The climax also delivers one of the show's most fist-pumping "beat the bad guys to the beat of the theme song" action sequences, a feature that had admittedly been lacking throughout the season. Following this, there are few scenes more cathartic than seeing Sinister literally blown apart and scattered to the four winds. Even if it all doesn't quite hang together story-wise, that's pretty consistent with the comics of the era from which the season draws so much of its inspiration. At the end of the day, this finale is here to have a good time while juggling a bevy of captivating characters in a colorful setting. Although the season as a whole is less ambitious structurally than its predecessor, with its only dedicated two-parters in the beginning, middle, and end, you'd never know it thanks to the Savage Land adventure being dispersed in the form of brief vignettes to create a sense of cohesion and serialization across the standalone episodes. It's a stroke of brilliance that avoids the production and scheduling problems of the first season, allowing the true ambition to shine in the depth of character writing. The Saturday morning sensation has now done seemingly the impossible: topping itself in terms of sophistication and quality, while becoming a well-oiled machine in the process. Where could it possibly go next??

The 90's were a bad decade for Marvel's Mutants, and it took some seismic changes and bold creative risks to save the franchise, the biggest being the 2001 reboot of the franchise - Ultimate X-Men! Marvel Comics hit the reset button and created a brand new imagining of Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and the rest of the X-Men's huge cast of characters. Mark Millar and Andy Kubert re-imagined Marvel's mutants and positioned them in the middle of a world in the shadow of the 9/11 attacks and waging a war that violated a lot of personal rights. Social and political satire wrapped up in a sci-fi package! In this episode of the Derek Hunter Podcast, guest host Dean Karayanis, New York Sun columnist and former Rush Limbaugh staffer, delivers a sharp-witted and historical analysis of the escalating conflict with Iran. Following the death of the previous Ayatollah, Dean mocks the appointment of his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, by the "Council of Experts" — a puppet organization designed to maintain a hereditary dictatorship under the guise of an Islamic “Republic.” He targets Western media, like the New York Times, for "romanticizing" the new leader as a "man of mystery" rather than a standard fanatic. The IRIS Dena vs. The Belgrano Strategy: A significant portion of the show is dedicated to Dean's recent column for the New York Sun, where he compares the recent sinking of the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena to the 1982 sinking of the ARA General Belgrano during the Falklands War. Just as the Argentine junta claimed the Belgrano was "sailing away" and outside an Exclusion Zone, Iran and its supporters are framing the destruction of the Dena as a war crime because it was in international waters. The Reality: Karayanis cites historical evidence—including a 1982 BBC interview with Margaret Thatcher and later admissions by the Belgrano's captain—to argue that "international waters" do not grant immunity to enemy combatants executing tactical maneuvers. In truth, the Dena was warned twice by the U.S. and offered safe harbor by India, but the captain chose to proceed, making the ship a legal military target. The Culture of Mockery and Free Speech: A broader critique of "useful idiots" in the West and the decline of creative freedom. Dean creative diversity, critiquing the "X-Men Reboot" social media account, arguing that modern writers have turned characters into political avatars for themsevles. He uses Nightcrawler and Magneto as examples of how true diversity includes diversity of belief and internal conflict. British "Tools of Hate": Dean mocks the U.K. labor government's labeling of the Union Jack and St. George's Cross as “symbols of hate,” exposed in a leaked report, a stance that outraged liberal (but not leftist) John Cleese. “The Germans” episode of Cleese's landmark series, “Fawlty Towers, illustrates that comedy is being stifled by people who refuse to analyze the "butt of the joke," which is often the person being unreasonable, not the victims of history. Dean concludes with a message of resilience, urging listeners to support the "flying machines" and the brave individuals fighting to dismantle the Iranian regime, while maintaining a sense of humor in the face of global tension.
Previously on LMG Presents: Marvel Multiverse RPG… After resetting the timeline for a third time, the Riftguards receive a chilling revelation from Doctor Doom: the answer isn't stopping the end of the universe, it's reaching the beginning of it. With reluctant help from Kang of their own universe, the team pinpoints the exact moment Kang the Devourer first entered existence. When they confront him, the Riftguards aren't alone. Standing guard are terrifying variants of Hela, Thanos, Magneto, and Dormammu, the Devourer's final shield. In a desperate move, Will fires the Ultimate Nullifier, erasing the Devourer from reality… but the backlash erases Will as well. As the dust settles, their Kang attempts to seize the abandoned cosmic power, only for Doom to reveal his true plan. He betrays Kang, kills him, and absorbs the power himself. The universe survives… but now it must face Doom the All-Consuming. ⚠️IMPORTANTE ¿Qué es “THE HORROR COUNTRY (THC)”?
In this episode of Geek Freaks, Frank sits down with Lenore Zann, the iconic voice of Rogue, for a conversation that goes far beyond animation. Lenore opens up about what still makes Rogue such a layered and powerful character, how she approached returning for X-Men '97, and why bringing Rogue into Marvel Rivals still feels true to the version fans have loved for decades. The conversation also explores Lenore's memoir A Rogue's Tale, her work in Canadian politics, the fight against environmental racism, and the deeper emotional themes inside Rogue's story that continue to connect with fans. Timestamps and Topics: 00:00 Welcome and introducing Lenore Zann 00:55 How politics added even more sass to Rogue 01:30 What makes Rogue such a compelling and layered character 03:56 Lenore's acting philosophy and why voice acting starts with acting 06:32 Becoming the voice fans still hear when they read Rogue 07:09 Rogue's trauma, Gambit, Magneto, and the emotional weight of X-Men '97 10:22 Bringing Rogue into Marvel Rivals and adding new personality to the role 12:35 Why Rogue could be one of the best leaders in the X-Men 14:33 Rogue as a role model for women, LGBTQ fans, and anyone feeling othered 18:41 Lenore's political work and helping bring attention to environmental racism 20:49 A Rogue's Tale, audiobooks, mythology, and the power of storytelling 24:41 Lightning round begins with dream roles and future acting goals 26:52 The director's note Lenore will never forget 32:39 The role she wishes more fans would ask about 34:06 New music, film development, and an animated project based on her father's books 35:51 Comic cons, cosplay, and wrapping up with Lenore Key Takeaways: Lenore sees Rogue as powerful because she balances strength, vulnerability, loyalty, and pain. Her approach to voice work is rooted in full performance, not just reading lines. Rogue's decisions in X-Men '97 make more sense when viewed through trauma and grief. Marvel Rivals gave Lenore room to bring even more of her own personality into Rogue. Lenore believes Rogue's greatest strength as a leader is compassion and self-sacrifice. The conversation tied Rogue's story to real-world themes like identity, acceptance, grief, and justice. Lenore's activism and political work show how her values carry beyond the booth and onto a larger stage. A Rogue's Tale adds even more depth to her journey as an artist, survivor, and storyteller. Memorable Quotes: "Voice acting is acting." "I've been living in your head rent free for 30 years." "Some things are deeper than skin." "There ain't no cure for who you are." "Worst case scenario, I can do whatever I need to do to make it work." Call to Action: If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a fellow X-Men fan. Frank is joined by Joe, aka "Muscles of the Multiverse," to talk Marvel storytelling from the comics page to the MCU screen, then go all-in on Disney+'s Wonder Man after its eight-episode drop. Joe breaks down what he does on YouTube, why he started the Reading the Multiverse podcast, and how he approaches Marvel adaptation trends without expecting (or wanting) a 1-to-1 translation. From there, the episode shifts into a full Wonder Man discussion: why the show works as a character-first story, how it balances comedy with real stakes, and why the Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery dynamic ended up being the surprise engine of the season. The conversation also gets into Simon's anxiety and identity pressure, the Department of Damage Control angle, the "Doorman" detour episode, and what all of this might be setting up for mutants and the next big MCU era. Timestamps and Topics (major beats) 00:00 Intro and guest welcome: Joe "Muscles of the Multiverse" 00:30 Joe's content approach: MCU-to-comics explainers + Reading the Multiverse podcast 02:15 Quick MCU news: Ian McKellen "destroyed New Jersey" comment and what it could imply 05:10 Wonder Man first reactions: why it's landing better than expected 06:40 Character-driven Marvel: Simon's relatability, anxiety, and hiding "who you are" in Hollywood 09:00 Acting as the hook: standout performances, "meta" acting scenes, and why Trevor works now 18:10 Wonder Man powers explained: ionic energy basics and how the MCU might simplify the lore 20:10 Bigger MCU threads: Vision/Wanda possibilities, mutant framing, and Damage Control as a warning sign 30:45 Episode balance talk: comedy vs drama, and why the Doorman episode hits so hard 41:00 What's next for Simon: hero-by-proxy theory, team potential, and final scores 44:40 Disney+ marketing debate: why some shows feel under-pushed and what Marvel can fix 50:35 Recommendations: The Ultimates (Deniz Camp) and revisiting Schitt's Creek 53:10 Joe's upcoming work: Doctor Doom deep cuts, Fantastic Four read-through, and the editing grind Key Takeaways Wonder Man works because it treats Simon Williams like a person first, superhero second. The show's comedy lands because the stakes stay real in the background, especially with Damage Control looming. Trevor Slattery is fully recontextualized here: still funny, but also weirdly wise and essential to Simon's growth. The Doorman episode is a standout swing that doubles as a Hollywood critique and a superhero fatigue commentary. Joe's breakdown of Simon's ionic-energy comic history highlights why Marvel rarely does strict comic-to-screen adaptation. Damage Control and the "quota" vibe point toward a wider MCU theme: institutional fear of powered people. Mutant groundwork is starting to feel less like a sudden switch and more like a slow social shift in-world. Both hosts land at a 9/10, with the only "missing point" being more about feel than a specific flaw. Memorable Quotes "There's usually never a 1 to 1 adaptation." "I didn't know that I needed more Trevor Slattery in my life. But now I do." "Mephisto is not going to be in everything." "It felt like it was made to be for an episodic TV show."
