Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. Star Wars television continues to make its way into headlines as Lucasfilm released first look images for Skeleton Crew, which will premiere on December 3. The show is run by Jon Watts and written by Christopher Ford, who both worked on the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, and stars Jude Law who plays a Force-user named Jod Na Nawood. But another Star Wars show, Lando, is not getting the greenlight. Director Justin Simien confirmed the television series starring Donald Glover is dead in the water even though a show bible, scripts, and concept art existed. The series was announced in 2020. Deadpool & Wolverine continued to make box office history and obliterate more records in its second week, jumping to a better-than-expected $97 million domestically and bringing its worldwide total to $824 million dollars. This is the eighth biggest second weekend of all time and the fifth biggest for an MCU title. Twisters dropped 37 percent its third weekend to $22.7 million for a domestic total of $195.6 million. M. Night Shyamalan‘s Trap opened in third place with an estimated $15.6 million, in line with expectations. This week the second season of House of the Dragon officially ended and fans have to wait two years until season three. To add fuel to the dragonfire, showrunner Ryan Condal announced that season four will be the last one for HOTD. In an adjacent move, HBO previewed brief, early first footage of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, which will be another Game of Thrones prequel show featuring the characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. Paramount+ revealed a trailer for the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff movie Star Trek: Section 31, which stars Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. This film will debut on Paramount+ sometime in early 2025. This week, Disney laid claim to a number of 2027 dates. The dates include marvel movies for July and November, a pixar movie in June, and a disney animation movie in November. Netflix announced that Squid Game will debut its long-awaited second season on December 26 and that a third and final season is set to premiere in 2025. HBO released preview footage of several eagerly anticipated new and returning series — including the second season of The Last of Us, the third season of The White Lotus, and the IT prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry, among others. Jenna Ortega is in final talks to join JJ Abrams‘ secret untitled movie at Warner Bros. to star opposite Glen Powell, who is currently finalizing his deal. Very few details are known about the project at this time. A John Wick sequel series is in development at Lionsgate Television. Robert Levine is attached as writer and showrunner on the project, titled John Wick: Under the High Table. Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski will serve as executive producers. Apple TV+ set a fall premiere date for Season 2 of Shrinking. The dramedy starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford will be released on Wednesday, October 16th. Following the acclaim of his most recent film Dream Scenario, director Kristoffer Borgli is reuniting with A24 for The Drama, with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in early negotiations to star. Christmas is now the release date for the Timothee Chalamet-led Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
Rihanna steals Dash's signature look, a debate about whether or not hip hop genres should be expanded and J.D. weighs in on the next John Wick series.
Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes. Milly Alcock will show us her superhero landing when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres on June 26, 2026. Other than Sasha Calle's portrayal in The Flash, this means we'll see Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen for the first time since 1984. The film will be released just a year after we see James Gunn's vision for the man of steel himself. In a move that seems telling of the new direction of MCU, the Marvel Television banner has been reintroduced and will be used for live action series such as Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart. The banner was previously used for MCU-adjacent shows Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, and others. Brad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming, and animation for Marvel Studios, said the idea is to let audiences know they can “jump in anywhere” in the MCU and still understand what's going on. Winderbaum also alluded to a Marvel Studios rebrand that encompasses Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, and Marvel Spotlight. HBO's streaming service Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune television spinoff show, Dune: Prophecy. The show is described as taking place 10,000 years before the events that lead to Paul Atreides' rise to emperor and will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they work to establish the Bene Gesserit. Inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune, the show has mostly been kept under wraps until now. Movie goers probably should have bought a ticket for themselves and their imaginary friends last weekend as John Krasinski's new film IF didn't quite reach expectations with a $35 million opening in the U.S. Although this means it took first place at the box office, the movie cost $110 million to make and a global box office of $55 million is still a stumble. There may be hope yet for the kid-centered flick with a lot of schools across the country ready to enter summer break. Hot off the heels of an incredibly well received first season of X-Men '97, Marvel Studios seems to have found the voice of their live-action X-Men in screenwriter Michael Lesslie. Lesslie's writing credits include Assassin's Creed, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. While both parties are still in talks, if the addition pans out, it will be the most significant step to actualizing the X-Men in the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne has joined the cast of Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen's assassin character, Caine. Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is officially getting a sequel at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning to reprise his role. Amazon's Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer but Sony does plan to shop the series to another studio or streaming service. Sony Pictures announced last week that I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reboot of the film with the same name as the original 1997 horror slasher, is set for theatrical release domestically on July 18, 2025. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are currently in early talks to return. Last week, Disney announced that Hulu is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell to extend the FX series Shōgun for two additional seasons. A writer's room is currently being assembled. Shōgun is currently the most viewed show in FX's history.

“I'm now at a place where I say to myself, ‘What haven't we seen?' And then we take it to a place that's completely, absolutely bonkers,” says writer Kirk Ward about his new show The Continental: From The World Of John Wick. “You take the audience down the road of a trope and then turn. That's the joy of collaboration and creativity for me.” The Continental is a disco noire three-part miniseries that tells the origin story of The Continental Hotel from the famed John Wick universe. In my discussion with Ward and director Albert Hughes, we talk about creating The Continental Hotel as a character in the show, writing a totally unhinged role for Mel Gibson and depicting the High Table in the most unexpected way – even though they were told not to go there. “Chad [Stahelski, the director of the John Wick films] said, ‘Whatever you do, don't reveal the High Table. Do not come up with your own impression of what the High Table is.' Well, I don't know what it is. So, we had to really lean into the mysterious elements of this show for that,” says Hughes. To learn more secrets about The Continental, take a listen to the podcast. The three-part show is currently streaming on Peacock and is a must-see for every John Wick fan.
In this week's episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo reloads to discuss “John Wick: Chapter 4” with director Chad Stahelski (“John Wick” 1-4). The fourth installment of the beloved action franchise follows Mr. Wick (Keanu Reeves), recovered from the final events of Chapter 3, and back in the crosshairs of The High Table, who turns old allies into ruthless enemies. The film also stars Bill Skarsgard, Donnie Yen, Lawrence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Rina Sawayama, Lance Reddick, and more. READ MORE: ‘V/H/S/85': Scott Derrickson Talks Joining the Cult Anthology Series, ‘Doctor Strange' Creative Differences, ‘The Gorge' & More [The Discourse Podcast] During the interview, director Chad Stahelski talked about being shocked that he's gotten this far, seeing as he thought the first “John Wick” film might have ended his directorial career. The filmmaker also talked about his work with Marvel as a second-unit action director his upcoming 'Highlander,' a potential 'John Wick 5' and much more. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

It all started out with the murder of a dog. Of course, it wasn't just a murdered dog, but the dog was a symbol of something much bigger that obviously took us down the road for four different movies. All starring Keanu Reeves, we are of course talking about John Wick: Chapter 4! "With the price on his head ever increasing, legendary hit man John Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Japan to Berlin." The addition of Donnie Yen to this franchise was absolutely phenomenal. He was absolutely the right choice for this type of movie, and steals every scene that he's in. If you haven't watched any John Wick up to this point, don't start here, or you'll be completely lost. Make sure you catch up on the universe, in order to watch this part, which might be the last one. I say might, because this is a tricky universe, so who knows what's going on with John, plus there are a couple of spinoffs in the works as well!! Director Chad Stahelski discusses his new film, John Wick: Chapter 4, with fellow director Louis Leterrier in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, Stahelski discusses the influence location scouting had on setpieces, the preparation required for stunts, and how his earlier work as a Second Unit Director and Stunt Coordinator informed his directorial style. The film finds John Wick forced to take his fight against the High Table across the globe as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld. With the price on his head ever increasing, he faces off against a new enemy with powerful alliances and forces that turn old friends into foes. Please note: spoilers are included. “Friendship means little when it's convenient.”Wrapping Up the John Wick SagaBefore the pandemic, director Chad Stahelski and team had been planning to film John Wick: Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 back to back. After delays, they ended up dropping the fifth chapter, opting to wrap everything up in the fourth film. So how does Chapter 4 work to continue expanding this world of assassins while also wrapping up John's story? Do more story threads get dropped? And how do they amp up the stunt sequences throughout the film? Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we wrap up our John Wick series with a conversation about Stahelski's latest entry, now in theatres, John Wick: Chapter 4.Here's a hint at what we talk about.John's back breaking the High Table's rules, starting off right out of the gate in this film by killing The Elder. But why so little involvement by The Bowery King? His resolution at the end of Chapter 3 seemed to indicate that he was going to go after the High Table with John. Maybe that's just another in the line of plot threads set up upon which they never execute. Or perhaps it was connected to the whittling down of two films into just this one. Who knows? Regardless, we would have loved more Laurence Fishburne. That being said, we do get the introduction of many great characters in this new film. They're great, and the actors portraying them are great. Plus, we have some spectacular action set pieces that are incredible. The staircase sequence is one for the ages, particularly the insane fall down its entire length. We discuss some of Stahelski's influences in the film, as well as several direct homages. And we discuss the impending spinoff film and TV show, while pondering if they'll find a thread to pick up in order to continue the story again. We have a great time talking about it, so check it out then tune in. The kevlar-suited master assassin returns for his fourth (and possibly) final film. Yes Keanu Reeves has once again returned as the titular John Wick, this time on a mission to seek out his freedom by taking on the "High Table." He's a man on the run with very few options......but at least he has some necessary allies returning this time as well, once again played by Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and the late, great Lance Reddick. He also has a new villain in his sights who's determined to take him out played by Bill Skarsgard along with a new physical adversary played by the legendary Donnie Yen. What results are even more locations and more crazy set-pieces this time around.....once again directed by former stuntman Chad Stahelski. Yeah I'm thinking he's back! ;) Host: Geoff Gershon Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

“Can a man like you know peace?”We're Back With John as He Takes on the Italian MafiaJohn Wick: Chapter 2 starts mid-action sequence as John fights Viggo's brother to get his car back. It sets up the action for this film, and sets up John's motivations. He's a man stuck in the past who clings to his relics. Once he has his car, he even goes so far as to try breaking the rules to stay out of the business. Unfortunately, he's not allowed, which propels this film. There's a lot more world-building in this film to set all of this up. How does it work? Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our look at the John Wick series with a conversation about Chad Stahelski's 2017 follow-up John Wick: Chapter 2.Here's a hint at what we talk about. This is an R-rated world of violence. What's interesting is that, given the opportunity to include nudity as well, Stahelski opts to avoid it. That tells us a lot about the specific world-view we're meant to take away from this movie. It's one of violence, not sex, even if it's full of sexy, well-dressed people who know how to fight. To that end, the stunts and action are amped up and enjoyable. It helps that the film is so beautiful to look at, particularly that final fight sequence through the museum and hall of mirrors. We get a prolonged stunt sequence midway through the film as John leaves his assassination of Gianna then has to fight dozens of hitmen, not to mention Common and Ruby Rose, both playing bodyguards. But how does this expanded world of hitmen work? Are they making a mess of it or does it work for us? And how about the new rules involving blood oaths? It's actually quite interesting. If there's an area we like but worry it may become too convoluted in later films, it's the 12-member High Table with the various mob families, not to mention the Bowery and all the other various groups that seem to be involved in crime here. Regardless, it all makes for a fun film. We have a great time talking about it, so check it out then tune in. On this week's podcast join Dan and Ethan as they dive deep into their love of the coolest films around, the John Wick series. If you've never seen a John Wick film worry not as we give a quick breakdown of everything you need to know to bring you up to speed. But if you want to jump right into our full discussion, here's a quick back-of-the-box blurb to get you prepped: John Wick, also known as The Baba Yaga, is a retired assassin played by Keanu Reeves, who, after his dog is killed by criminals, returns to the world of assassination to enact revenge, getting caught up in the machinations of the mysterious High Table. This has been going on for 4 films now. Once The Baba Yaga sets his mind to something, he doesn't stop. We talk all things Wick in this week's podcast; our favorite kills and set pieces, ranging from a kneck-breaking book to the world's most casual shootout (feat. Common), to a discussion on the awesomeness of character names throughout the series, and why John Wick: Chapter Three - Parabellum is the only film in the series to have an admittedly dope title. We also chat about the power of neon lighting, dive into the brilliant, over-the-top world-building of the films, including The Continental hotel, and remember the once-in-a-lifetime talent that was Lance Reddick. And if you want to know all the non-spoilery details about this week's John Wick: Chapter Four, first, make sure to check out Dan's review right here on the site tomorrow, then listen in as he tries to explain the sheer coolness of this newest entry, and why not only is it his favorite film in the series, but maybe his new favorite action film. There's all that and more on this week's pod covering all things John Wick.
