Thor 032: Does Darcy Feel Bad About Tasering Thor?

Marvel Movie Minute

Minute Thirty-Two: From Tasers to Triage Back with us to discuss Darcy's Taser and Kat Dennings' awesomeness, plus a sweet but ditsy admissions nurse, is ‘Jovial' Jay Shepard from MCU: Location Scout. In the thirty-second minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... Thor tries to figure out what Realm he's in, but he goes with Alfheim and Nornheim first, neither of which is populated with human-looking beings. Why start with those? This raises an interesting question for us – are we meant to believe that this is Thor's first time to Midgard? Based on conversations he has in later films, it's clear he's been to other Realms but perhaps not here? Is this how myths perpetuate? The Asgardians came down in 965 A.D. and then not since, leaving the stories to get passed down to create those myths? And it certainly seems more logical now for them to have cut the representatives from the Nine Realms from Thor's coronation scene. That would have raised so many more questions. Darcy pulls out her taser and she's not afraid to use it. It makes total sense to us that Darcy carries a taser. Which kind of taser is this? There are a good number of them, and the kind with the wires that hit the victim like this? They're not just for police. Thor's reaction to Darcy's taser shows that he still has no idea he has no powers anymore. This is something he'll have to learn the hard way over the next few minutes. Darcy's reaction to Erik and Jane after she's tased Thor is classic. “What? He was freaking me out!” Such classic Darcy. Jane's complete and utter shock leaves her with her jaw practically on the ground. It's a great moment if you catch it. Jane decides to join them. But not until they've loaded the post-tasered Thor into her Pinzgauer. It's a bit odd because in the last scene, she told them to go and that she would stay. There's a scripted line that Erik has telling Jane that he won't leave her behind in the desert at night. Which is smart. Did they need that? Maybe not. But it does seem a bit like a change of heart on Jane's part. What's funny is that she doesn't help them at all get the post-tasered Thor into the Pinzgauer. It's Hammer Time! As they drive away, we see Mjølnir fall from the sky. But the Bifrost doesn't act the same way as it comes down. Why is that? Perhaps Mjølnir fell out of the Bifrost on its way down? Another reason it ends up in a different spot? It's hard to be sure. We debate about why they don't turn when it comes through the sky because it's quite the site. Maybe it's because they're looking forward, not back, as they drive. To that end, we describe Mjølnir as a gutter ball. Odin didn't get quite the right spin on it as he sent it into the Bifrost and so as it got close to Midgard, it landed in the gutter. Off to the County Hospital! Having shot Thor with the taser, they decide to take him to the hospital. As it turns out, this location is one that Jay found for his site and was the first person to pinpoint it online. It's actually a government building called the Toney Anaya Building in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This hospital looks particularly great with Branagh's and his cinematographer's dutch angles. It has a great comic book look but also allows for more of the location to show up. We see the hosed-down parking lot as they pull in with their Pinzgauer. We talked about this filmmaking technique the last few seasons and see they're still using it here. Let's talk about Dawn the Admissions Nurse. Before we get to Dawn, just another note about how much we love Darcy. Her “Yes I did,” line about having shot Thor with the taser is so perfect here, and it still allows her to have a unique character. We really want the Wu and Darcy show now. And all of this really started with Agent Coulson back in Iron Man. Juliet Lopez plays Dawn the Admissions Nurse. No fault of hers, but why did they go this ditzy angle? It makes so much sense why they cut the scene down so drastically. Perhaps they wanted to show this hospital dealing with so many people from rural New Mexico to be a place populated by employees who weren't that smart? We do play the IMDb game with Juliet to see what they list as what she's known for. One of them is Breaking Bad. Makes sense for New Mexico. We end with Nurse Terry preparing to draw blood from Thor. We don't see much here. Just a hint, but we find it intriguing that Branagh chose to film this from Thor's POV as he comes to and finds himself in the hospital. Thor gets tasered and taken to a hospital. it's a busy minute and ‘Jovial' Jay Shepard is here to chat about all of it with us. Tune in! Minute Thirty: From Asgard to Midgard This is our last day of individual guests for each day, but it's a great way to finish it off as we have Justin Jaeger from TruStory FM's Trailer Rewind podcast to talk with us about Thor's banishment from Asgard to Midgard. In the thirtieth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... The jerk finally realizes he's been a jerk. This is really a big comeuppance for Thor here. Once again, the conversation turns back to Thor's eyebrows. They're really bad here. It was great to be on Jotunheim for a while where his eyebrows actually had more of a semblance of normalcy. There have been quite a range of emotions going across Thor's face in the last few minutes. We love how shocked and vulnerable he suddenly looks here. It's clear he never had any idea there might be consequences for this. And that's after bringing up again that Sif told him this was forbidden. Is it Frigga who had spoiled him too much? We certainly get that sense when reflecting on the coronation scene earlier in the film. Odin has such a great dramatic pause here as he locks down what he wants to do. He's processing a lot in this small moment. And had he already whittled Thor's punishment down to this final banishment? If Thor had shown remorse, would Odin have gone so far? Was he thinking sending Thor from Asgard to Midgard would be good punishment? When Odin references ‘loved ones' that Thor has betrayed, is he meaning just the family? Or all of Asgard? Loki has such a great tennis match moment here as he watches this fight. Is he sad at all that his actions have brought this all down on Thor? Or just shocked that Odin has taken it to this point? Or is he really just biting his lip with glee? We try to figure out the lore and history of Mjølnir. Odin not only takes Mjølnir from Thor but he uses it to strip the armor from Thor's arms. He then uses it to banish Thor, blasting him back into the Bifrost to cast him out. It says a lot that Odin uses Thor's own weapon to cast him out. It's a shame, though, that we don't get more pointed moments later in the franchise that point out the specifics of Thor's armor and rank. But what's interesting is that Odin then whispers what seems to be a spell into Mjølnir – a line of text that had been written on it in the comics – “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” So it seems that in the MCU at least, this is the moment when only those who are worthy can wield Mjølnir. This is certainly different from mythology. Is it also a part of fact that Mjølnir, like Gungnir, is made of Uru that allows it to be enchanted thus? There's also that ‘he' in that spell. It just feels dated now. With Taika Waititi behind the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, we sort of expect that he's going to find a way to deal with that. Kinda like that moment in Star Trek 6. Does it matter that Odin says ‘hold' versus ‘lift'? It seems a bit like a semantic battle, eh? So Odin banishes Thor from Asgard to Midgard. And it's incredibly dramatic. As far as sending Thor through the Bifrost then Mjølnir through immediately afterward, the scene construction is a bit wonky as we do cross the line, making it appear as if Odin sends the hammer in the complete opposite direction of Thor. Is that just meant to show us that it's not going to land directly on top of Thor? Is it just planetary rotation? To that end, how does he actually operate the Bifrost and Heimdall's Observatory with Gungnir? Is there a mental connection? Again, Loki gives great stone faces through all of this. Thor's trip through the Bifrost looks so much rougher than his earlier journey. Was that because he had Mjølnir? Or more because of his intentionality on that journey as opposed to this one where he's thrown into it? Or is this because Odin operates it with Gungnir, not Heimdall with Hofund? And we're back on Earth. I mean, Midgard. Well, you know what we mean. Thor lands and we have several shorthand shots to put us back into that moment when they drive into the atmospheric disturbance (aka the Bifrost) then crash into Thor. It's the exact same shot that we saw back in minute 3, but here it's clear they haven't manipulated the lighting so we can now actually see they crash into Thor as opposed to some shadowy figure. Meanwhile in the MCU, we learn that Thor's coronation, the attack on Odin's vault, and Thor's journey with his friends to Jotunheim all happened on May 30th. Interestingly, they actually return on the 31st of May so somewhere in there, there may be a time zone they crossed. So Thor lands on Midgard, aka Earth, on May 31st, 2010, the same day that General Ross battles Hulk at Culver University, Tony Stark battles Ivan Vanko, aka Whiplash, at the Stark Expo, and that Agent Phil Coulson stops several robbers from holding up a small gas station in the deserts of New Mexico. From Thor's banishment from Asgrd to Midgard, to Odin's spell on Mjølnir, to Loki's reaction, to the rough trip through the Bifrost, to Thor getting hit by a car, we cover a lot with JJ. Tune in! Thor 026: How Does Thor Turn Midair?

Marvel Movie Minute

Minute Twenty-Six: From an Upside-Down Jotun Beast to a Right-Side Up Jotun Army It's a special week with a new guest each day! Today's guest is Will Freeland from the Hype is my Superpower podcast. He's here to talk about the fate of the Jotun Beast with us as well as our first view of Thor's flight. But how does he do a midair turn? In the twenty-sixth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... The Jotun Beast continues running along the ceiling of the crust of the surface as the ground gives way. How it does this we have no idea. But we also don't really understand how such a thin surface stays up to begin with. Is it the chemical makeup of the ice on Jotunheim? We just have to write it off as something cool to look at but nonsense when you think about it too much. Kenneth Branagh directs the action really well, using all sorts of dutch angles, dark shots, god's eye views, and more and has stayed consistent throughout this film. To that end, we're okay with some of the nonsense of the Jotun Beast on the ceiling because the scene plays so well. We had never seen it before, but when Branagh cuts to the overhead of Sif running across the crumbling ice, you can actually see the Jotun Beast dart past her on the underside of the ice surface. We're calling this Bifrost Junction. It's the only logical name for it. The three of us debate about the spot where the Asgardians stop. It's a cliff edge. Andy's assumed it's the spot where they arrived via the Bifrost. Why else would the filmmakers make it another cliff edge? Will debates that it's likely just a distant spot where Heimdall will answer them when they call for him thinking they're far enough from the danger, but it's really hard to gauge. The runes aren't here from the Bifrost, which we've seen on Midgard. Is that just a Midgard thing? or did it perhaps get covered up with snow? We'll have to keep our eyes open for future Bifrost trips. We also debate about who actually calls for Heimdall. Is it Thor? He's pretty far... We settle on it being Volstagg. Will and Matthew struggle with the accent they gave Hogun. Heimdall doesn't answer but the Jotun Beast does. Apparently, the cave system leads to an exit on the cliff face? We're not really sure. Wow. We were going to have a moment of frosty breath stopping the Asgardians. The script originally had all the Frost Giants breathing out an Icy Fog. This fog keeps the Asgardians from seeing where they're going and Thor has Loki use his magic to clear it out. It's a very different scene. With that, however, are we meant to assume that Frost Giants are magic? And Will points out that if they had included this scene instead of the Jotun Beast, it would've given Thor moments of teamwork and leadership, which he doesn't have in the Jotun Beast version. This makes a lot more sense for the film and Thor's character arc. Is the Jotun Beast actually bigger now? It's hard to tell from this perspective. Thor takes flight by swinging his hammer. But how does he do a midair turn? We cut to Thor when the Jotun Beast shows up in front of his friends. Does this imply he sees it? Or hears it? Does Thor have Heimdall-level eyesight? This is a bit confusing. What's more confusing is how Thor flies off. We debate if Thor is flying toward his friends or away. Matthew thought he was flying away to get essentially a running start but after chatting about it, we feel pretty confident we landed on him flying toward them. Still, it's a bit odd how that shot is constructed. And how does Thor turn midair when he's throwing himself around using Mjølnir? Thor takes out the Jotun Beast. By flying through its head. Then lands perfectly after another (unseen) midair turn. Or several? But how does he keep himself so clean after flying through the back of the Jotun Beast's throat? And was it just one midair turn he had to make before landing or was it more a loop-de-loop? We debate about Marvel's depiction of violence and how they decided to show the killing of the Jotun Beast. Great design work on the Jotun Beast. Turns out, Matthew was right that the Rancor was part of its reference. We love how Thor lands with such a cocky and arrogant smile on his face, only to realize all the Frost Giants are behind him and his friends, essentially surrounding them. It's a great moment. When he's flying down here, we see the crumbled ground through Utgard, so how did Laufey and the Frost Giants get here so quickly? And we struggle a bit with the eye lines here when the Frost Giants arrive. It doesn't quite seem like they're actually taller than the Asgardians. It's a fun minute with Thor performing midair turn after midair turn, and of course the sad death of the Jotun Beast. Tune in! Minute Fourteen: From Manipulation to Madness Ashley Coffin from the MCU Podcast is joining us this week as the Warriors Three and Lady Sif join Thor and Loki. Check her and her shows out at the links below! In the fourteenth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... Loki sits and listens to Thor. Eventually, he finally speaks. He tells Thor he's right and that Daddy's wrong. He's also concerned the frost giants might be coming through with an army soon. That leads to Thor getting riled up. Now, he is ready to ride to Jotunheim. That's when Loki tries to make it clear that he didn't want this, but we really know he did. Damn, he's good. And how many times has Loki sat through Thor's tantrums? But is it weird Thor calls his coronation day his ‘day of triumph'? Like it's some victory to be won? Forget about all that! It's the Warriors Three and Lady Sif! So the Warriors Three arrive with Lady Sif. They seem surprised by the upset table, Volstagg in particular. And this is the same entrance we saw in the extended scene last minute. So why does Volstagg have to be played for the jolly fat man jokes? We get it – it's in the comics. We just don't like it. Perhaps that's why they were all thinned out so much. They're not that great. Because of their arrival, Loki gets conspiratorial with Thor. Sif watches with suspicion. Outside of that, have we mentioned how much we love the production design? Apparently, the Warriors Three and Sif can't really hear what's being said. They all just watch like creepers. In fact, it's not until Loki says "It's madness" that it piques Volstagg's curiosity: “What sort of madness?” And that's when Thor reveals they're going to Jotunheim. Wait... Fandral is here? We almost forgot he was one of the Warriors Three. Fandral says it's serious – it's not just a fun trip to Earth to hang out with the mortals. But is it weird that he calls it Earth, not Midgard? And that he refers to them as mortals? Or is this just the filmmakers speaking down to their audience? But really, it's great seeing Fandral and the rest pipe up. Without the deleted and extended scenes, however, this is really the first time we see these three interacting at all with Thor, other than his nod to them at the coronation. How are we meant to know they're prominent characters? Isn't it odd that this is essentially how we meet them? The extended scene gives us more of the Warriors Three and Sif trying to convince Thor it's a bad idea. Again, do we need more of them? We love Loki and his manipulation, and this is a good minute for it. We have a great time covering all of these elements and more. Tune in! Minute Six: From Ice Attack to Asgard We have our first guest! We're joined by Ryanne Bennett from the Black Girl Nerds podcast this week. Check her and her shows out at the links below. In the sixth minute of Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor... Laufey smashes one of the Einherjar soldiers that he just froze. Not a fun way to go. Meanwhile, the battle rages on. Branagh continues putting us in the middle of it in close shots which feel chaotic and makes it feel like we're actually there. Unfortunately, it makes it hard to tell what's going on. But it's pretty easy to see Laufey form a spiked ball of ice in his lowered palm. He then hurls it at Odin, nailing him in his right eye. So this is different from the Norse mythology just a bit. Why the change? Well, it puts it in the action. Also, by keeping Odin in the battle instead of on a hill or something watching the battle play out, we do at least get a better sense of the type of king that Odin is. And Laufey for that matter. We definitely appreciate that they're willing to join the fray. So Odin can shoot fire from Gungnir. Who knew? The Asgard-Jotunheim war clearly is waged for a long time and Laufey and Odin are always in the frey. Meanwhile, the battle rages on from Midgard back to Jotunheim. It actually looks like a decent place. A tad cold, but the cities aren't crumbling. That being said, we do see bodies strewn on the distant streets. And who's that on the landing between the two towers? Turns out it's Laufey, Odin, and two Einherjar guards. Looks like Odin's won. He has Laufey on the ground at the end of Gungnir. Odin's about to kill him but seems to hold his spear for some reason. Considering the myths about Odin losing his eye were in relation to him wanting to gain wisdom, does this moment perhaps tie to the myths and show that Odin gains wisdom when it comes to war and see value in not being a bloodthirsty tyrant? Should we read into this as the change from the Odin who warred with Hela in Thor Ragnarok? The war is over. Odin takes the Casket of Ancient Winters from Laufey. So Odin doesn't kill Laufey. That being said, he does have his Einherjar soldier take the casket of ancient winters. But why does it look like it was plugged in? Does the planet start shutting down now? Did we need it to be so visually obvious? Meanwhile, Odin and his troops hop into the bifrost for a trip back to Asgard. Our second trip so far in the bifrost and it already is far less... atmospheric. They're heading back to Asgard. We assume it was the crystalline peaks but turns out, this is the bottom. Why did they decide to construct the film this way? It kinda throws you initially, but it looks cool. Especially when we flip over and move through the water to reveal the actual city. We don't get to see much of it other than the canyon patterned after Black Canyon in Gunnison National Park, but we do see some cool city buildings built into the wall of the canyon and in the distance... some sort of floating building? It's very difficult to figure out. But we like it. Laufey and Odin battle on! The epic Asgard-Jotunheim war comes to an end in this dramatic minute. Tune in! Our Final Thoughts and Expectations as We Prepare for Thor in Our Last Hiatus Episode This is our last hiatus episode between seasons three and four before we start breaking down Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film Thor into one minute chunks to discuss each one in glorious detail. Because of that, we thought that it would be a good time for us – Matthew Fox and Andy Nelson – to discuss our backgrounds with the character of Thor, the movie, and the comics. The Movies and Beyond This episode gives us a chance to chat about our initial thoughts 10 years ago before we went into the theatre to meet the god of thunder, and what we thought afterward. It's a chance for us to touch on how our thoughts about Thor, Loki, and their stories between Asgard, Midgard, and the rest of the universe have changed and evolved over the decade as their characters have moved through the various films all the way up through to Loki and the upcoming Thor: Love & Thunder. The Comics We also talk about our connections to the comics. While Andy read comics throughout his life, Thor was never a title he picked up. Matthew rarely has read comics. But this show has given us both (mostly Andy) a chance to dig into the comics more to read the early Journey Into Mystery issues, JMS's line of Thor, Walt Simonson's Surtur Saga, and more. The Mythology This film provides us (mostly Matthew) a chance to go through more of the Norse mythology so we can better understand the origins. What's changed? What's remained the same and why? Have Loki and Thor always had daddy issues? Last Hiatus Episode Next week, we'll start our exploration of Thor. For now, pour yourself a drink, kick back, relax, and join us as we share our thoughts on the macroscopic level before we dig in deep next week. In this universe, Thor is an only child because Odin & Frigga never adopted Loki, who was instead raised by his biological parents as the Crown Prince of Jotunheim. Without Loki's influence, Thor grew to be a party boy instead of a hero. While his mother is away, Thor travels to Midgard to headline an intergalactic party and meets Dr. Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis, who tried to alert S.H.I.E.L.D. of Thor's arrival. Thor and his countless minions party hard all over Earth, creating problems for SHIELD and interim director Maria Hill. Loki and his Jotun entourage also join the party, encouraging Thor's reckless behavior. SHIELD enlists the aid of Captain Marvel to subdue Thor & the partygoers, but using her full power could do serious harm on earth. So Jane ultimately contacts Frigga via Heimdall, and Thor cleans up his global mess in time to avoid punishment from his mother. But a villainous version of Vision shows up at the very end, leaving us to wonder his motive.     Episode 7 stars Jeffrey Wright, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Tom Hiddleston, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Frank Grillo, Taika Waititi, Karen Gillan, Frank Grillo, Seth Green, Rachel House, Jaimie Alexander, Josette Eales, Alexandra Daniels, and Clancy Brown.    For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris's (and occasionally Amy's) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

Fortunately, the excellent film did not provide many significant problems, but this felt only like luck, since the film did not appear to take Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into account: seemingly implying that Fury and Coulson barely knew each other in 1995 (the show established Fury recruited and supervised Coulson in 1982), and having Coulson mention the Kree (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 1 involved him not knowing who the Kree were – fortunately, the T.A.H.I.T.I. protocol erased Coulson's memory of everything to do with his resurrection, and with Kree being a key part, they would naturally have also been wiped).   The perfect casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade also unfortunately further drove the false narrative online, with people claiming that it meant the shows were “confirmed” non-canon due to Ali already having an MCU role as Cottonmouth. While this was an Internet overreaction given there are other examples of dual casting, the dual casting quirk not being acknowledged felt concerning.   It admittedly did not help that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 6 set itself a year after Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel's Runaways: Season 3 took its timeline through to post-Avengers: Infinity War 2018 dates, yet unfortunately neither referenced the Snap.   A 2019 quote from Mr. Feige, which fairly described the Disney+ shows as the first time TV would truly connect back and forth with the films, was falsely run by sites as “confirmation” that the other shows were not part of the MCU. This quote has been weaponised and referenced ad nauseum for 2 years.   The Darkhold would appear in WandaVision with no link to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Marvel's Runaways   The fan reaction to the Darkhold and Mobius scenes has also led to upsetting incidents where creators such as Jac Schaeffer and Michael Waldron are asked questions they are seemingly, understandably, not informed to answer, giving confused and accidentally damaging quotes.   Cannon Impact:   There are other great Marvel shows, e.g. Legion, but these have nowhere near the power or lasting impact in my heart simply by virtue of not being part of this world.   The MCU family is such a wonderful thing, but right now, Television-inclusive fans don't feel like we're welcome in that family anymore.   Mooted “Possibilities”   If the Inhuman Royal Family needed to be rebooted within the MCU… it would not be the worst thing imaginable.   The idea of being an extricable part of the MCU does not apply to Marvel's Iron Fist       There is precedent with Star Wars for wiping canon, but there it was motivated by a need to free the storytelling. The Marvel Television MCU shows are not particularly restrictive. Most things can be picked up on fairly easily, perhaps at most needing a couple of throwaway setup lines.   Alternate Universe: The shows aren't novelty What If…? type stories, e.g. “What If… Phil Coulson Were Resurrected?”, made to be a separate little alternate story – but born and bred as parts of building, developing, growing, interweaving the beautiful main MCU world and timeline.   Some Hopes Recently, Mr. Feige made the comment, “Everything is on the board. That's one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go […] There are some great characters and actors from those shows.” This exciting quote bears similarity to previous remarks of Mr. Feige's, such as, “All of those things inhabit, however far on the outskirts, the same continuity, so certainly that opportunity [to integrate those characters] exists.”   Eternals Earns PG-13 Rating https://www.filmratings.com/Search?filmTitle=eternals&x=0&y=0 https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-rating-description/ FilmRatings.com's breakdown of the rating describes Eternals as including "fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality." It's the latter element that has fans raising their eyebrows, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's movies having avoided sexual content since Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009.   Unlike MCU movies past, romance is said to play a key role in the film's narrative. It even features a love triangle between on-again, off-again Eternal couple Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), the mortal human who's dating Sersi when the movie picks up in the present.   The "brief sexuality" could also allude to a scene with Thena (Angelina Jolie), an Eternal warrior who becomes romantically involved with the Deviant Kro in Marvel's comics books. Perhaps tellingly, the final Eternals trailer shows Kro ensnaring Thena with his tendril-like appendages in an oddly intimate fashion, possibly alluding to the pair being in love.   Even more intriguing, Eternals is confirmed to include an onscreen kiss between the Eternal Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his husband (Haaz Sleiman), which begs the question: will the movie be daring enough to feature a sexual moment involving a queer couple? It seems unlikely, given the MPAA's restrictive attitude towards LGBTQ+ content, but that won't stop fans from hoping anyway.   Disney+   November 12th, 2021: First Ever Disney+ Day https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/the-walt-disney-company-celebrates-disney-day-on-november-12-to-thank-subscribers-with-new-content-fan-experiences-and-more/ https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-mcu-future-special/ https://screenrant.com/jungle-cruise-movie-streaming-release-date-disney-plus/   On Friday, November 12, The Walt Disney Company will host Disney+ Day, a global celebration that will come to life across all dimensions of the Company. Subscribers to Disney+ will be treated to new content releases across the service's iconic brands, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star in international markets, along with a special presentation on Disney+ for fans with sneak peeks into what's to come.   Disney+ Day will feature content premieres from all of the marquee brands on service, including: The streaming premiere of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings A special celebrating the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ with an exciting look towards the future   The special was teased as part of Disney's massive lineup for Disney+ Day. Outside of celebrating current MCU titles on the service, the special will also give fans an "exciting look forwards the future." With Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk having all completed production, and Moon Knight nearing the end of filming, there's plenty for the service to tease. The company promises subscribers will be treated to "breaking news, first looks, new trailers, exclusive clips, and appearances from Disney+ creators and stars."   Along with the MCU special, Disney+ Day will serve as the streaming premieres of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Disney's Jungle Cruise. For those looking for something not Marvel-related on Disney+, the company has promised new content for all of its other major brands, including Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic.   Fans Express Disappointment Over Emmy Loses https://www.cbr.com/wandavision-fans-express-disappointment-over-emmy-losses/ https://nypost.com/2021/09/20/wandavision-fans-cry-that-show-was-robbed-at-2021-emmys/ https://news.yahoo.com/wandavision-fans-react-emmys-snub-072608224.html https://www.newsweek.com/wandavision-emmy-snub-irks-fans-sparks-wave-angry-memes-1630679 Despite being nominated for a total of 28 Emmys between WandaVision and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, neither series came away with any general award wins.   WandaVision did win 3 of the Creative Awards in a separate announcement   HULU Series   Marvel's Hit-Monkey Animated Series Finally Has a Release Date An exclusive look at 47 of fall 2021's new and returning shows             Hit Monkey (Nov. 17, Hulu) https://www.cbr.com/marvel-hit-monkey-animated-series-first-look-release-date/ https://ew.com/tv/fall-2021-tv-preview-photos/ Marvel's Hit-Monkey adaptation on Hulu is no longer in limbo, as the animated series has an official release date -- along with a first look.   As part of its preview of upcoming fall TV shows, Entertainment Weekly casually confirmed that Marvel's Hit-Monkey is not only a go but it's coming on Nov. 17 to Hulu. The long-in-development series has been relatively quiet since it was first announced as part of a suite of adult animated shows for Hulu, but fans can now expect it soon. Along with the release date, Hulu shared the first image from the show, featuring the titular assassin and his incorporeal sidekick. Check it out:   Revenge can be sweet — and sometimes fuzzy. Based on the Marvel comic and created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, this darkly comedic series follows a Japanese snow macaque whose clan meets a stranded hitman, Bryce (Jason Sudeikis), and nurses him back to health. But when Bryce bites the dust, it's up to the titular simian (guided by Bryce's ghost) to follow in his assassin footsteps and seek vengeance. "He's a character who is violent and temper amental but also deeply wounded and innocent," says Gordon. —Devan Coggan Hit-Monkey Trailer https://twitter.com/Marvel/status/1439952785953361927?s=20   Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agent Carter   Marvel One-Shot “Agent Carter” Becomes Easier To Find On Disney+ https://whatsondisneyplus.com/marvel-one-shot-agent-carter-becomes-easier-to-find-on-disney/ Following the release of the Marvel One-Shot “All Hail The King” on Disney+, Disney+ has made a little reshuffle and moved out the Agent Carter short into its own listing, having previously been found in the “Iron Man 3” extra section.   In the short, we see British operative Peggy Carter joining the nascent S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. As she searches for the “Zodiac” key, Agent Carter also battles her misogynistic, bureaucratic boss, Agent Flynn. It takes place after the main events of Captain America: The First Avenger.   The short was originally released in 2013 and was released originally on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray/DVD. It stars Hayley Atwell, Bradley Whitford, Dominic Cooper, Shane Black, Neal McDonough, and Tim Trobec.   Currently, the short has only been moved into its own listing in some countries, including the US, Canada and Australia.   Moving the short out from the extras section makes sense for multiple reasons, mainly to make it easier for people to find it. While adding extra content like deleted scenes or behind-the-scenes footage makes more sense to include in that section. Bonus features that don't have any real connection bar a home media physical release, are much more useful listed separately.   Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet shuts down rumors about her reprising her role as Quake for Marvel's Secret Invasion series on Disney+. https://www.instagram.com/chloebennet/ https://www.cbr.com/secret-invasion-chloe-bennet-debunks-quake-rumors/ Bennet commented on the persistent rumors during a recent Instagram story, noting, "I have avoided saying anything like this in general, on social media or whatever, because I thought maybe it would blow over, but it has not. I am in no way attached or involved, even at all or a little bit, in the Secret Invasion Marvel thing. I honestly don't even know really what that is... I am only coming on here to say this because it has gotten to the point that every day I'm getting hundreds of messages about this... I'm now getting like approached in person. Today it was in the tampon aisle at Target... You can hear all of Jason's podcasts, including his coverage of What If...?, over at PODCASTICA.COM Marvel's What If? Episode 7 Synopsis Executive Produced by: Bryan Andrews, A.C. Bradley, Brad Winderbaum with Kevin Feige Head Writer: A.C. Bradley Episode Written by: A.C. Bradley Episode Directed By: Bryan Andrews One Party can change the world for a while! The All-Father Odin is entering his rejuvenating Odin-Sleep leaving Thor in charge of Asgard.  His mother Frigga takes the chance to go and visit her sisters, so Thor decides to party somewhere outside of the view of stoic watcher Heimdal. They settle on Las Vegas in Midgard and travel there for the party of the universe. While monitoring for intergalactic signals, Jane Foster and her research assistant Darcy track the party prince and get brought in to his celebrations. As things get more festive Thor falls for Jane and Darcy marries the space travelling Howard the Duck. But with Nick Fury in hospital after being denied entry to the shindig, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Maria Hill, Phil Coulson and Brock Rumlow are unable to stop the spread across the earth and, worrying the planet will be destroyed they call in the biggest gun they have; Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel and Thor fight but, with Captain Marvel put into time out by Mjolnir, Thor continues partying as the celebrations spill all the way to Paris, London and Australia. He is joined by Loki Laufeyson and his fellow frost giants. Thor's brother from another mother also knows how to party on a grand scale but as it spirals out of control Jane Foster does the only thing she knows to do to stop it. She calls Thor's mother Frigga.  Frigga leaves immediately to discipline Thor but he's learned his lesson and cleans up the Earth before she gets there.  As Thor invites Jane out on a date before he returns with Frigga to Asgard, a portal opens and Ultron Sentries spill out, followed by sentient robot Vision in possession of all six infinity stones. Halfway Through the Hiatus Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer As we inch closer to the release of Season Four, we dig into one of the One-Shots. The One-Shots were a series of short films that Marvel produced to be released on several of their movies when released on physical media. This particular One-Shot was actually released on the Captain America: The First Avenger Blu-ray and DVD, not on Thor. For our purposes, however, it makes a lot more sense to talk about this one now because the events in it literally take place as Agent Phil Coulson, always played with incredible charm by Clark Gregg, drives from LA to New Mexico to investigate what turns out to be the arrival of Thor and his hammer on Midgard, aka Earth. In this episode, Matthew and Andy are joined by Pete Wright. You remember Pete – co-host of season one: Iron Man. He's also the co-host with Andy on The Next Reel film podcast. (It's certainly worth checking out if you haven't already.) So much to talk about in this One-Shot! Even though it's a short film, there is a lot in here to discuss. Just where is Puento Antiguo exactly? We try to plot that out based on the mileage signs. And how about all that product placement. It's everywhere except the gas pump itself which advertises Roxxon. Yeah, that Roxxon. We debate which Little Debbie donut would be the smarter pick for Coulson, but he's interrupted by men with guns holding the gas station up. Coulson's incredibly good at disarming the robbers with his off-putting and weirdly direct comments. Did you know the stunt work in this One Shot used up 80% of the budget for this one and The Consultant? It just goes to show how smart they were in using the money. We discuss the stunt performers as well as the connection to the original Broadway show and subsequent movie “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” Why is it so hard to find the One-Shots?? The biggest question we have with the short is why Disney doesn't seem interested in doing anything with this or the other One-Shot shorts officially. (We say that knowing they've put them on Disney + periodically, most notably with the buzz growing for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. They were only officially released on the physical media editions of several of the MCU films. Why? We may never know, but what we do know is that it's a lot of fun and certainly worth a watch. In this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we discuss a handful of games we've been digging recently, including Pokémon Unite, Wildermyth, Genshin Impact 2.0, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, Neo: The World Ends with You, and Tribes of Midgard. We also talk about our newest Game Informer cover story: Tales of Arise. Then Dan describes his time talking to Red Hook Studios about Darkest Dungeon II. Pokémon Unite has been one of the bigger surprises and might be a good breakout MOBA for a lot of people. Alex says he "can't put this damn game down. It's a genuinely fun MOBA with a pocket monster twist, and it's probably better than you think." Wildermyth is an indie strategy game that shouldn't be overlooked. We were a little late to the review party, but in his review, Dan said, "If you've always wanted a fantasy Dungeons & Dragons stylized XCOM game, Wildermyth might be exactly what you're looking for." Meanwhile, Neo: The World Ends With You is the long-awaited sequel to the beloved JRPG The World End With You. Kim said, "It captures the magic of what made the first game so special, but it also retains some of its bigger issues and frustrations with difficulty balancing and the repetition of tedious tasks." It's a full show, but we make time for another fantastic round of community emails. So please join Dan Tack (@dantack), Jill Grodt (@Finruin), Alex Van Aken (@itsVanAken), Kimberley Wallace (@kstar1785), and Ben Reeves (@Benjaminreeves) for a new wild and ever-entertaining episode!
