X-Men '97 Season 2 has officially come to an end! After an incredible first season, did Marvel Animation manage to recapture the magic, or did Season 2 bite off more than it could chew? With X-Men hotter than ever, we revisit the Fox X-Men movie franchise and ask whether these films deserve more credit. The franchise definitely had some lows, but movies like Logan and X-Men: Days of Future Past remain among the greatest comic book movies ever made. So... have we been too hard on the Fox X-Men? THE BATMAN JOINS THE DCU?! Could Matt Reeves' Batman eventually be folded into James Gunn's larger DC Universe? We discuss the possibility of Robert Pattinson's Batman sharing the screen with David Corenswet's Superman, whether that combination could actually work, and what it would mean for the future of the DCU. We also discuss our excitement for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 and the chilling new Absolute Batman Mr. Freeze origin story. LANTERNS We're loving Lanterns! Unfortunately, we haven't had enough time to review the series weekly, but we give our thoughts on what we've seen so far and why we can't wait to give the show a proper review. X-MEN '97 SEASON 2 FULL SPOILERS After the cold open, we dive into X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9 and the finale. There's still a LOT to love about this series. The animation, voice acting, superhero action, fight scenes, comic book references, and character work remain top-notch. Certain characters and storylines are handled exceptionally well, particularly Nightcrawler, who continues to be one of our favorite characters. But Season 2 also left us frustrated. We discuss: • Apocalypse and his Season 2 storyline • The disappointing conclusion to the overarching conflict • Why certain Apocalypse storylines feel half-baked • Nightcrawler's fantastic character development • The incredible animation and voice acting • Some of the season's best fight scenes • Our favorite and least favorite moments • The disjointed storytelling • Season 2's pacing problems • How Season 2 compares to Season 1 • The X-Men '97 Season 2 ending • Our theories and predictions for Season 3 Our biggest issue is that Season 2 simply needed more room to breathe. There are great ideas throughout these episodes, but important story beats sometimes move so quickly that they don't receive the emotional weight or development they deserve. The overarching Apocalypse storyline is especially frustrating because such an iconic X-Men villain deserved a more fulfilling conclusion. That doesn't mean we've suddenly stopped loving X-Men '97. Far from it. We still think this is an excellent superhero animated series with fantastic characters, gorgeous animation, phenomenal action, and a clear love for Marvel Comics and X-Men history. Season 1 simply set an incredibly high bar, and Season 2 doesn't quite reach it. We're still VERY excited for X-Men '97 Season 3, and we're hoping Marvel Animation slows things down just enough to let its biggest moments breathe. THE DEVIL'S LEDGER Week of August 30, 2026 Mother Nature reminds us who's in charge, a Colombian “sorcerer” faces the horrifying consequences of a healing ritual, The Fresno Nightcrawler walks into The New Monsters, Carolyn Ossorio investigates the murder of Dee Warner, and The Slippery opens the mailbag and reveals what they're working on next. Then, in This Week in Horror, we enter the deeply deranged children's television nightmare of Buddy. THE CREEPIEST THING I HEARD THIS WEEK: THE SORCERER OF LIBORINA This week's story takes us back to 2021 and rural Antioquia, Colombia, where a 31-year-old mother of four sought spiritual healing from a man known as the Sorcerer of Liborina. According to prosecutors, Martín Rangel Londoño Jaramillo covered the woman with a homemade mixture containing alcohol, sulfur and camphor before setting fire to the substance as part of the ritual. The woman suffered burns across approximately 70 percent of her body. Investigators allege that instead of immediately seeking emergency treatment, the Sorcerer sent her home with an herbal remedy. She eventually reached a hospital in Medellín but died about a week later. Authorities subsequently arrested Londoño Jaramillo on a murder charge; he denied the accusations. It's a disturbing reminder of an ancient human vulnerability: when we're suffering, we'll sometimes place extraordinary trust in anyone who promises they can make the suffering stop. THIS WEEK ON THE DEVIL WITHIN Our journey through The New Monsters continues with one of the internet age's strangest cryptids: The Fresno Nightcrawler. It begins with grainy security footage from Fresno, California, showing a pale, impossibly thin figure seemingly composed almost entirely of legs walking across a lawn in the middle of the night. The footage raised far more questions than it answered—and then the Nightcrawler received the one thing every aspiring cryptid needs if it hopes to become genuine folklore: A second sighting. Hear the incredible story of the Fresno Nightcrawler this week on The Devil Within. CRIMINAL MISCHIEF Carolyn Ossorio investigates the disappearance and murder of Dee Warner, a Michigan mother of five who vanished from her property in 2021 following an argument with her husband, Dale. Years of searching ultimately led investigators back to the property, where Dee's remains were discovered concealed inside a fertilizer tank. Dale Warner was subsequently convicted of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Carolyn takes us through the disappearance, the investigation and the breakthrough that finally revealed what happened to Dee. THE SLIPPERY Scott and Nancy revisit several stories they've covered so far, bringing us new developments, unanswered questions and cases that weren't nearly as finished as they appeared. They'll also take us behind the scenes to reveal what's currently being investigated—including a new cancer scammer series coming this fall—before opening the mailbag to respond to your comments, questions and observations about the show. The premise? A group of children become trapped inside an aggressively cheerful 1990s-style television show hosted by a giant bright-orange unicorn named Buddy. Marvel finally put the MCU X-Men cast on stage at D23, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister might not even be the most interesting name on the list. Frank and Thomas break down the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the full X-Men lineup, the X-Men '97 season 2 finale, and the Lanterns premiere on HBO. The Doomsday conversation starts where most fan reactions did, with Robert Downey Jr.'s voice under the Doom mask, and moves into power scaling against Thor, the Reed and Victor history the trailer is quietly setting up, and which legacy characters are unlikely to survive December 18.
