The Fertility Podcast is back with Big News: The Fertility Podcast Joins Forces with Fertility Action!Welcome to the first episode in our brand new series of The Fertility Podcast, it's Natalie and I'm so excited to be back behind the mic and even more thrilled to share that this season, we're doing something special. I've teamed up with Fertility Action, a new charity doing vital work to improve access to fertility support and treatment. In this episode, I'm joined by the inspiring Katie Rowlings, the founder of Fertility Action. Katie shares her deeply personal story seven years, five rounds of IVF, the trauma, the heartbreak, the hope and what led her to launch a charity during Fertility Week. We also talk about the bigger picture: how we can create fairer access to treatment, build better support networks, and make sure no one feels alone on this path. Here's what we talked about: Katie's raw and honest account of her fertility journey, including the emotional and physical toll Why she founded Fertility Action and the real change it's already creating How the charity is tackling the postcode lottery in NHS fertility access The incredible power of community, and how support groups (for both women and men) are helping people feel less alone Why psychological safety and trauma informed support are at the heart of everything they do The importance of involving medical experts and how some of the best in the field are backing the charity Tips for attending the Fertility Show without feeling overwhelmed And the exciting news: The Fertility Podcast is now the official podcast of Fertility Action
Welcome to our last epsiode of 2024, which is another 'How to support a colleague' episode and this time hears two of our co-founders in conversation. Natalie speaks with Becky about her route to parenthood. Becky, who is also the founder of Paths to Parenthood, shares her personal journey through egg donation and the unique challenges she faced at work during that time.Becky's story provides invaluable insights for HR professionals, managers, and colleagues who want to create a supportive and understanding environment. Here's what we discuss: • Becky shares up her decision to pursue egg donation after multiple rounds of IVF and a miscarriage. She talks about the emotional complexities of grieving the loss of using her own eggs while embracing a new path to parenthood.• From handling unpredictable schedules to dealing with well-meaning but challenging questions, Becky reflects on how she managed work commitments while undergoing egg donation treatment abroad.• We discuss how well-intentioned comments, like questions about resemblances or the use of terms like “real mum,” can be triggering for those navigating donor conception. Becky offers advice on how colleagues can approach these topics with sensitivity and respect.• Becky highlights the importance of workplace policies that recognize donor conception and other alternative paths to parenthood. Even a simple acknowledgment in HR policies can make employees feel seen and supported.• We discuss the importance of emotional support and peer networks for those navigating donor conception, as it's often a deeply personal and stigmatized journey.• We talk through the impact of cultural and societal stigmas on donor conception and how workplaces can play a role in shifting narratives and creating a more inclusive environment.• Becky and Natalie also take a moment to reflect on the highlights of the year, from hosting our F Word at Work Live event during Fertility Week to launching new resources and campaigns that continue to drive awareness around workplace fertility.A huge thank you to Apricity for sponsoring this series of The F Word at Work. This episode titled “Infertility, Courage, and Resilience “is an interview with Sophie-Jane Hardy, Communication Consultant for Creative and Change Makers. We talk about how one stays courageous during a fertility journey, the Fertile Body Method, and how to manage your career whilst planning for a child, pregnancy and motherhood. This is timely released before Fertility Week from 2nd to 5th November 2020. We spoke about silent transformation that occurs reading the book by Sharon Blackie, “Woman Rose Rooted – Sharon Blackie which is a guide book for our times, for women who are living a calling and wanting to step into leadership. The other areas, we covered were how infertility is a grieving journey, a sliding journey, it is a world of paradox. Cycle awareness and strong boundaries are key. The words ‘just relax' is not what one wants to hear rather it is empathy one requires to navigate through empathy. The Fertile Body Method was pivotal in Sophie's conscious conception. Specifically, solution-focused questioning, surrounding yourself with positivity in the face of challenge and 7-11 breathing to calm and soothe the nervous system and the visualisation/ reframing during the IVF process to imagine the injections are liquid sunshine to fertilise these budding seeds. To find out more about the Fertile Body Method Therapists and visualisation you can visit www.fertilebodymethod.com Resilience is a muscle and one needs to keep it active. Sophie is inspired by Christine Shuler Deshryver the director of City of Joy (https://cityofjoycongo.org) which is also available as a series to watch on Netflix. Another source of inspiration was the book ‘Lean In Women, Work, and the Will to Lead' written by Sheryl Sandberg. A fertile journey makes you indomitable where you surrender into breaking and radiance. The TTC Life Raft: Empowering you through loss or infertility
Hi guys! We're just a few days away from Fertility Week and I share a bit about the BBC work I've been creating and working on behind the scenes in this episode; I also share a wonderful, open and honest conversation with Kate Meakin. Kate and her husband Phil are trying to have their second child while going through unimaginably trying circumstances after Phil was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour. We cover the difficult assumptions made for anyone experiencing infertility after already having a child; why Kate hosts her brilliant weekly fashion and style hashtag with Keeley (#wednesdaywewear and @_tryingtobeamum_) and how she gets through the really, really hard days. We also talk about this problem: 'we measure the ability to be compassionate to people with how much they’ve been through; we just need to recognise, it’s relative." I couldn't agree more with this, but would love to hear your thoughts too? Have a listen and get in touch to let me know; share with your friends and do leave a review or a rating. Each and every one means the world. Thank you! Alice x

WELCOME TO DAY 7, THE LAST OF FERTILITY WEEK! Justina Thompson is a Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) coach and is our last guest for Fertility Week. She took a 2-year certification program with Sarah Naomi Bly and has successfully been using FAM to prevent pregnancy for 7 years. It is a natural birth control method free from side effects. She learnt more about the importance of FAM for couples trying to get pregnant during her 2 years training and while in internship. A large portion of her training involved understanding how hormones work for the female body from the scientific level. The focus for the program was to support hormonal health with lifestyle, nutrition and environmental factors. Couples are often told by their doctors that unless they’ve been trying to conceive for more than 12 months, then they should keep trying which kind of leaves them in the dark. But with FAM and other types of charting like the BBT, which is very popular, the method targets the time when the woman is most fertile and more capable of conceiving. In this episode, Justina talks about: Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) and how it works Signs of fertility in women - cervical fluid, BBT charting and cervical position Factors that trigger early or late ovulation Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) Common problems and frustrations in charting If you want to learn more about Justina Thompson, click here to visit her website. She traveled a lot and started using maca while in Peru and later created her product Mighty Maca. In this episode we talk about: - The 7 keys to fertility - Detoxification - Managing through setbacks and losses - Diet to improve chances of getting pregnant - Women and hormones past the age of 35 Dr. Cabeca is giving away free gifts to our community, and you can find them here.
