Sometimes we just need a reminder that things with God are simple, and the weight of our experiencing God is not on us or dependent upon our ability to be spiritual. Jesus wants to remind us today of how he is pursuing our hearts in this life, and all we need to do is say yes. May you find God today as you open your heart to him, and experience the rest that his presence brings. Our Scripture for today comes from 1 John 4:19, and today's worship is Come Closer by Mark & Sarah Tilman. Thank you so much for listening to today's podcast. Across all our platforms we're taking time today to give our readers and listeners a way to support this space for God's presence. As we begin to wrap up our week celebrating Jesus our King, today we'll celebrate the justice of God. What does it mean for God to be just? Does that stir up fear in you or peace? As we take a closer look at what God's justice means for us, I pray you are filled with immense gratitude and worship today. God has looked on us with so much love. And Jesus, our just King, has done so much on our behalf. Our Scripture for today comes from Isaiah 30:18, and today's worship is Agnus Dei by Brooke Ligertwood, Jenn Johnson, & Chidimah Ubah. As we continue our week exploring various aspects of Jesus' kingship, today we'll celebrate his triumphant nature. What does it mean for God to be triumphant? Like most things with Jesus, the deeper we look, the more we'll find he is contradictory to the ways of this world. His victory is no different. Jesus' victory confounded the Jews on his time, and still confounds many to this day. May the nature of Jesus' triumph astound your heart and provoke worship and awe in you today. As we begin to wrap up our week on Jesus's High Priestly prayer, today we look at what it means to reflect God's glory. How could man ever look like God? In our broken, fallen state, can we ever reflect his glory? Let's find out as we explore God's heart and intention behind filling us with his Holy Spirit and giving us his new nature. May your heart and mind be open to God's truth and will for your life today as we seek him together. With everything going on in our world today, it's understandable if it's begun to feel like we're living in the end times. Given that temptation, however, it's important to remember that God's still moving in ways that resemble Acts far more than Revelation. I needed that reminder this week and found it in the story of a pastor from Thailand. Let's take a closer look at his story. We encourage you to try them today.
Jesus is a joyful King, and we find in his High Priestly Prayer that he desires that his people would be filled with his joy too. We all have a myriad of burdens and things in life that cause us stress and worry. But what does it look like to have deep abiding joy in all circumstances? Today we'll explore that and more. As we begin to wrap up our week on boundaries and vision, today we'll explore having clear vision for community. All of us will likely fall in different places with this topic today. It is my prayer you discover what is healthy and God-ordained for you in regards to community—and that may look completely different than someone else! We all have different capacity, and it's very important to remember that as we discuss living life with others in community. May our hearts be open today to whatever the Lord might speak. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 18:20, and today's worship is King Jesus by Brooke Ligertwood. -- Next week is Giving Tuesday, the one day a year when the world focuses on unleashing radical generosity. As we continue our week on vision and boundaries, today we'll explore what it looks like to have vision for loving and serving others well. Is loving people something you do intentionally? Or is something you believe will happen effortlessly as you live your life? Sometimes God is asking us to intentionally discover vision for certain seasons, and is specific about ways we could minister to or bless someone. Today may we learn how to serve people in a healthy, intentional way with good boundaries and vision. As we near the end of our week on the parables, today we're going to look at the parable of the prodigal son. Hanging in my office is a print of Rembrandt's depiction of this biblical scene. It's hard for me to think of another passage of Scripture that produces such continual fruit in my life on a daily basis. May these words of Jesus redefine our relationship with God for the better today. As we continue to look at the profound, life-transforming concepts Jesus shared through parables, today we'll focus on the parable of the lamp on a stand. May what might've once been a concept that caused many of us to feel pressure, now bring forth peace, purpose and freedom in God's love and identity for us. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 5:14-15, and today's worship is My Lighthouse by Rend Collective. – Next week is Giving Tuesday, the one day a year when the world focuses on unleashing radical generosity. In today's devotional, we're going to explore the desire we all share to be passionate. Everyone of us desires to give our lives to something, our passion to something that truly matters. And God has given us all that desire with a perfect plan to satisfy it in a unique way, a way he's perfectly wired each of us for. May each of us get a greater sense of how we can live more wholeheartedly in him today. The main concept for this week is derived from The Seven Longings of the Human Heart by Mike Bickle and Deborah Hiebert. Today as we continue our series looking at the desires of every heart, we're going to take time to recognize and satisfy our desire to be great. The desire to be great within the heart of man has produced tremendous and terrible things. It's produced peace and war, advancement and destruction. And as we look at this desire today, I pray that God reveals the purity and power of it as well as his plans to satisfy it moment by moment, day by day. The main concept for this week is derived from The Seven Longings of the Human Heart by Mike Bickle and Deborah Hiebert. In today's devotional, we're going to continue our week long focus on tilling the soil of the heart by looking at the power of prayer. There is no better way to soften our hearts towards God than making space to have a real conversation with him. His voice breaks down our walls. His answers give us the peace and direction we need. And his presence, simply resting in him, builds the solid foundation of connection we need to live open and responsive to him throughout our day. May God do a mighty work in us today as we discover the power of prayer. As we reach the middle of our week-long focus on tilling the soil of our hearts, today we're going to look at the power of Scripture in receiving all that God longs to give us. Within the pages of Scripture there is a wealth of stories all conveying how God has met with and restored his people from the beginning of civilization. And these stories are powerful resources in softening our hearts towards God, inviting him to meet with us and mold us into his likeness. As we look at the power of Scripture today, may God stir our hearts to spend time every day in the pages of this transformative book. And may Scripture guide us deeper into true relationship with its author. As we continue this week-long focus on tilling the soil of our hearts, today we're going to look at the power of worship in opening our hearts to receive all that God longs to give. For most of us, worship is something we engage in in a corporate setting. It's a collective expression of adoration and relationship. But worship can be so much more than the songs we sing together. It's a powerful avenue to softening our hearts towards God that we can, and should journey down every day. As we make space to focus on the power of worship today, may God stir up each of our hearts to worship him with all we are and all we have. Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 29:2, and today's worship is Praise (feat. Brandon Lake, Chris Brown & Chandler Moore) by Elevation Worship. - Thanks for listening to today's podcast. As we continue this week focusing on tilling the soil of our hearts, today we're going to look at the role of thankfulness in opening our hearts to receive all that God longs to give. While Scripture is filled with encouragements to be thankful, I think our own lived experience tells us that being thankful is essential in the pursuit of an abundant life. So may God remind us of all we have to be thankful for today as we make space to meet with him. And may our days be better as the result of taking just a few moments to be thankful for who we are, what we have, and all God has done for us as his beloved children. Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 107:1, and today's worship is Gratitude by Brandon Lake. -- Thanks for listening to today's podcast. As you go about your day today, look for opportunities to express your thankfulness to yourself, others, and your heavenly Father. If you start to feel like negativity is taking over, your heart is hard towards someone, or that life is simply dragging you down, taking just a few moments to find and express thankfulness makes all the difference. As we begin to wrap up our week on living for heaven, today we're going to explore what it means to have our perspectives shift toward the things of God rather than the things of earth. We are so easily bogged down by the weight of the world, and today God wants to lift our chin and point our eyes upward to things unseen, the things of heaven. Our Scripture for today comes from 2 Corinthians 4:18, and today's worship is Throne Room by Jesus Culture. -- Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11 to find real rest is for YOU. First15's brand-new devotional book called Rhythms was written with you in mind. In our third day of looking at Joy, we're going to take time today to look at David's statement in Psalm 16:11, where he describes a “fullness of joy.” There is a greater fullness of life available to you and in me in God that most of us will ever experience. To experience more of God almost always requires laying down more of the things of the world. But if we, today, will give a greater measure of our hearts over to God, we'll find greater joy than we could have imagined experiencing this side of heaven. God has given us the ability to choose him here on earth, and nothing blesses the heart of God like his beloved people intentionally turning their hearts toward him. We are adding new prayers to our library every month, so if you need a moment of peace with God, let these prayers be your guide! In today's First15 Podcast we wanted to give you a preview of a new Guided Prayer that our friend Hannah Smith wrote titled, “Renew me with your rest.” Oftentimes when I think about rest and peace I view them as one and the same. But as I read through Hannah's prayer, I began thinking about how often she refers to action that leads to rest and prays for the grace of God to help her find rest. The first time rest is mentioned in the scriptures is after the work of building the whole world and filling it with life was complete. Hebrews 4:11-12 says, “Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” I love that this set of verses makes achieving rest an actionable thing. What I really love about understanding peace and rest rightly is that we can clearly see that peace is a gift from God that helps us endure as we strive towards entering into God's rest, and rest is the reward He gives us for having held fast to His calling. I pray today that this prayer reminds you that the work to which he has called us is holy and worthy, and that the promise of the reward of rest gives you the courage to keep going.
Living an abundant life means letting go of lies and past sin patterns that hinder us. These lies and bad habits can often feel comfortable, but they are truly keeping you from experiencing abundant life every single day. The best truth of all is that they have no power or authority in your life anymore through the power of Jesus. Once we release the lies and old patterns of thinking and acting, we will see new life spring up in our lives everywhere we look. May this be the case for each of us today. The prayer and worship of King David throughout the Psalms have stood the test of time since over 1000 years prior to Jesus' birth and remain some of the most beautifully powerful prayers in all of scripture. King David was careful to take time to delight in the Lord particularly when his heart was downcast. 1 Samuel 30:6-8 says, “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” And in several of the Psalms he begins his prayers with praise, recognition of his heart's truest desire, and rounds them out with self reflection. “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” David's practice of acknowledging the beauty, majesty, love, power, and good intentions of the Lord toward him is what gave him the stability of mind to be able to be honest with God about reality while not losing hope. It is our prayer that this new Guided Prayer from our friend Laura Woodworth would serve to you as the first part of one of David's psalms when you have a difficult time finding the words for yourself, and that they would give you the foundation of faith that your heart needs to share with the Lord your concerns so that you can do so with confidence that he hears you, knows you, and is working in all things for your good and his glory.
In today's devotional, we're going to examine what it means to have a life in Christ and the power of his resurrection. We think of resurrection primarily as the specific time when Jesus returns, and begins the process of finally making all things right. But the reality is that God invites us into a lifestyle of resurrection every day. Every day he wants to make us new, to renew us, transform us, and mold and fashion us more into his likeness. May God build within us a powerful culture of resurrection today as we draw near to his transformative love and presence. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28

As we continue our week on living in and pursuing the light, today we'll explore how we as God's people are called out of darkness and to the light. Our new inheritance as God's saints is to step out of hiding, and walk in full vulnerable honesty before God and man. May you be strengthened in grace and integrity today as you're re-envisioned toward your calling to the light. Our Scripture for today comes from Ephesians 5:8, and today's worship is Let There Be Light by Hillsong. -- Thanks for listening to today's First15 Podcast. My name is Ryn, and I'm a part of the First15 Team. If you haven't downloaded our brand new First15 app, make sure to click the link in today's show notes to check it out! One of the new features that you can enjoy when you download the app is our Guided Prayers. We are adding new prayers to our library every month, so if you need a moment of peace with God, let these prayers be your guide! Several times throughout scripture, we read stories about people who go through various struggles and bear witness to the story that God has woven through their determination, faith, willingness to yield to the Lord in prayer and to be courageous in all the ways that He calls them to be. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is the most compelling of them all as it tells the story of the God who loved his people and his creation so much that he chose to live among them, to sacrifice on their behalf, to redeem their lives, and to be and example of how to live in a way that honors the Lord, welcomes the kingdom of heaven in their lives, and anticipates the glory of the Lord in every beautiful way. It is our prayer that you would be encouraged today to seek the Holy Spirit and all his benefits as you journey with the Lord along the path on which he is leading you.
